Ordered sesame chicken and fried rice. It was so nasty. The chicken tasted like tofu. It was soft and mushy, not crispy like at other Chinese restaurants. The sauce was sweet like sugar. The rice was yellow, firm and unappetizing. No fortune cookies. No napkins. No sauces. I ate a few bites then threw it in the trash. The lady behind the counter completely ignored me while she chatted on the phone. I stood for several minutes while she finished her call. I don't know why this place has low stars cause it's really good! I ordered the lunch special of their chicken and broccoli in brown sauce with vegetable fried rice. I usually get white rice but when I try a new place I like to try the fried rice. And DAMN is it delicious!!! Was cooked perfectly and the flavor was two thumbs up. I thought the broccoli was gonna be undercooked cause of how it looked but definitely not. It was just the right amount of both soft and crunchy. So good!! I placed an Order with China One tonight. I wrote down my order and read it to the cashier. Asked him to read it back and he reread exactly what I said. The price was $50.53 for what I thought I ordered. While asking him " how long for delivery ", he hung up the phone. The food arrives 40 minutes later, gave the driver a $5 tip and waited for my girlfriend to sit down. Open the food and noticed that the General Tso chicken was chewy, the Fried Wontons were doughy, and I had two extra pints of fried rice but no Small Roast Pork lo mein. My lady also noticed the wontons were very doughy. I tried one and it tasted like eating a pen cap. To top it off, when I called to inform them they forget the lo mein, the cashier casually says " yeah " and paused like he was stuck. He tells me " ok," and exhaled " no you ordered 2 pints of Pork fried rice" I replied " I asked you to read the order back to me". Then he says the unthinkable, " I'll send the driver back with your Lo mein and you give him the pint of Pork fried rice" like he was doing me a favor. Then he says " 40 minutes ". I hung up the phone. So basically you charged me $8.45 for something that I didn't get and then you have the audacity to make an exchange, then the nerve to tell me that you'll send it 40 minutes later. $50.53, NO NAPKINS, NO FORTUNE COOKIES, NO 2 LITER OR CAN OF SODA THAT'S ADVERTISED WITH A $20.00 ORDER, THIS PLACE IS A JOKE. I ordered the chicken broccoli meal. It was a pretty good portion of the main course. It came with pork fried rice that had a lot of onion. Plus an egg roll. Service was fast. Food was good though the sauce was a little thick like pudding. I thought the price was good too with the combination meal and an iced tea for a dinner price of $10.53. Just average to good made to order American Chinese. The place itself was an older downtown building so probably a more take out than eat in restaurant. I ate in but the default must be take out as they put it in a bag and everyone else there was taking their food with them to eat. read more

Let me start by saying this is a family owned restaurant. There are kids and adults depending, relying, on this place to net a profit. It sucks. I make a point to order take out Chinese from places like this all the time....all over the country. This place is hands down the worst. I ordered Szechuan Tofu and requested it to be extra spicy. What arrived in my take out bag was a huge pile of flavorless grease triangles with something red to create an illusion of flavor. Some limp broccoli spears drowned in this syrup. 3 to 7 slivers of water chestnuts provided the only comforting crunch... I also ordered veggie fried rice. I will spare anyone still reading too many words. It was a sad facsimile of this staple. There was a faint smoky char like one would expect; however, it was so faint that it barely whispered. I seek bad yet good Chinese, and I wish this family the best. Oftentimes, the take out joints can offer the best food in small towns. This place needs to try harder. Perhaps it is because there is not another place close by. Perhaps they just can't cook. Perhaps they are just clueless. I hope it's the latter for the sake of anyone subjected to this slop. Was looking for something on Christmas Eve and thought the Chinese would be open, I called ahead for pickup and ordered 2 combination platters , one chicken lo mein , the other was beef and broccoli... plus 2 small wonton soups... got it home and the wontons were a weird color, ate them, and realized that tfw wontons were freezer burnt from being in the freezer too long. They tasted like cardboard, freezer burnt, then my beef in the beef and broccoli was barley edible... so fatty and just yuck. My friend could hardly eat the chicken lo mein. Ordered garlic & broccoli...i told them i had a shellfish allergy and asked them to cook it away from seafood. They then gave me steamed broccoli with garlic sauce on the side in a cup. Well,considering the fact that we ordered on Friday night, it was delivered pretty quickly. I think its a good decent place for cheap take out Chinese food in downtown. Chicken lo mein wasn't that great to be honest but I really liked the dumplings and chow mein. Egg roll was decent. Pocket friendly decent food. read more

In the winter time this place has hardly any heat. And lacks cleanliness. In the summer they often have flies. But unless you see the place as a midnight takeout or delivery spot it isn't for you. read more

I work nearby so whenever I get the craving for Chinese I always order from here. It only takes 10 minutes for your food to cook regardless of how much you order. It's the only Chinese place downtown, unfortunately. It's nothing to rave about, it's your average Americanized Chinese takeout joint. They have really good lunch specials. If you're looking for authentic Chinese food, look elsewhere, this is not the place. And as always, make sure you ask for extra hot oil on the side if you like it spicy. read more

This place used to be good but now it is just gross. All of their food taste like it has gone bad. Used to love their chicken wings but one time I ordered it and it tasted like chicken that went bad. It was sour and it stinks. I thought of giving them another chance yesterday and ordered shrimp egg foo young and crab rangoon. First of all, there was only 1 pieces of tiny (and I mean VERY tiny) shrimp for each fried egg. It was super bland! The gravy and the egg foo young itself is super duper bland. Then the crab rangoon taste a little sour...and the white rice tasted like it has been sitting there in the rice cooker for 1-2 days. It has like an old and burnt rice taste...when you leave your rice in a rice cooker for a very long time with the rice cooker turned on, the rice will turn a little of yellow shade (which means it is burning) and the rice will keep sweating because of the heat which can make it soggy or go bad faster. All in all, if you live dowtown go a little further to get a better chinese take out. Don't waste your time and money here. read more

This place has gone downhill over the past two years. The woman that works the register and takes the order is VERY RUDE and unhelpful. My husband was working in the area for two weeks. This place caused him to spend a day in the hospital, from food poisoning. He had shrimp. He returned to tell them the ER's diagnosis. this place is alright, but there's better out there and i thought it was over priced. i ate here a few times 10-11 years ago and the food seemed different back then. parking can be kind of difficult, which is one reason why i tended to avoid this place, but on the plus side they do accept credit cards here, while a lot chinese restaurants do not. i ordered a few different things to sample and save for future meals. i'll start off on a positive note, the beef teriyaki was great. good flavor and the meat was really tender and easy to chew. this may be the best beef teriyaki i've had. another one of my usual staples was pretty mediocre, the BBQ spare ribs. they weren't very meaty and they had the typical toughness to them but they did put a lot of sauce on them, and in my opinion it's hard to find places that do that, and the sauce was good too. the eggrolls were ok, not much meat in them though. the fried wontons with sweet and sour sauce is another dish i like to sample. the sauce was good, as was the meat inside, but they were greasier than what i'm used to, and the wraps were chewy and not crisp. i also tried the sesame chicken. now 10 years ago i remember the chicken being very crisp and the sauce being very thick, so thick that it wouldn't stick to the breading. this is nothing like that. the chicken wasn't crisp at all. the sauce wasn't too thick either. the flavor was ok but nothing i'd ever really crave again. the pork fried rice was ok. i feel like in the end i ended up paying about $6 more than i was expecting to for all this food. overall i'd give this place a 2.5 out of 5. really, you're better off taking a few minutes to cross the river and try Fu Star or China Star on the south side. read more
