    Would you eat this?

How is this place in business. Ordered takeout. Got home and it was so over cooked, dried out and inedible. There is no way they couldn't know the food wasn't edible. It was so dried out it was hard. You literally couldn't eat it. The should be ashamed of themselves. A complete waste of money. Save yourself and don't order from here.

    BBQ Pork Egg Foo Young

I ordered a to go order from here a few weeks ago, and I couldn't wait to order again. I ordered the BBQ pork egg foo young...and my whole life was a lie! This is by far THE BEST egg foo young I have ever had! The egg patties are super thick and fluffy but light crunch on the outside. They are filled with fresh veggies...and no meat! (This is the game changer). The rich brown sauce that goes on the patties contains all of the BBQ pork! The pork is sliced super thin and with so much flavor...melt in your mouth! This is a very large portion, but totally worth it when you can have leftovers of this decadence over and over again! I have not tried anything else from here, and probably won't, because I found my happiness in BBQ pork egg foo young.... Get it!

Decent prices, excellently large portions - and happily surprised it was so good! Everything was good, especially the pan fried noodles. Kiddo enjoyed the Pad Thai and looking forward to trying other dishes like lo mein.

Nothing special. Even for Chinese, its pretty greasy. Service isn't great either.

We just moved to Peyton and heard about this place. This is hands down the best Chinese food that I've had in Colorado.

The food at China Recipe is pretty average for the price. The service is solid and the portions are favorable.

**Ambiance** The…read morerestaurant itself is a decent size with plenty of seating and large booths, so it would be comfortable for families or larger groups. **Service** Service was great. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and welcoming. The staff spoke English as well as either Cantonese or Mandarin, which initially gave me high hopes for the food. **Food** I won't lie--I came in with pretty moderate expectations. After chatting with the staff in both Mandarin and Cantonese, I thought we were in for a really authentic meal. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. We ordered five dishes, and it quickly became apparent that the food is heavily catered toward American tastes. Several dishes contained ingredients that traditionally wouldn't be included, while other key ingredients were missing altogether. The biggest issue for me was the sweetness. Three of the five dishes were noticeably sweet, which isn't what I expected from the dishes we ordered. The standout dish of the meal was the Mongolian Beef. It was flavorful and wasn't overly sweet. That said, it lacked the spice I typically associate with the dish. The Mapo Tofu was probably the biggest surprise. It was missing the ground pork that usually gives the dish so much flavor and texture. Instead, it included bell peppers, onions, and water chestnuts--ingredients I've personally never seen in Mapo Tofu. Rather than being spicy and numbing, the dominant flavor was sweetness. The Chicken Pan-Fried Noodles were difficult to enjoy. The sauce was very sweet, and the noodles were cooked to the point where they were tough and chewy. Instead of the thinner noodles commonly used for this dish, they used thick noodles that reminded me more of lo mein. We also ordered a Beef and Scallion dish. It felt more like a beef chop suey variation with scallions added. The scallions themselves were cooked perfectly, but once again the sauce leaned much sweeter than expected. The Hot and Sour Soup was actually the first item to arrive. I jokingly told my family that if the soup wasn't good, I might be worried about the rest of the meal because hot and sour soup is one of those dishes that really showcases balance and technique. Unfortunately, it ended up confirming my concerns. It lacked the bold sour and spicy flavors that make the dish so enjoyable. By the end of the meal, we had a lot of leftovers. The only items we brought home were the Mongolian Beef and a few pieces of beef picked out from the Beef and Scallion dish. **Overall** This restaurant may appeal to diners who enjoy sweeter, Americanized Chinese food, but it wasn't for me. Based on this visit, I wouldn't return, and I wouldn't personally recommend it to anyone looking for the flavors and dishes I grew up eating.

Any Google search for "shrimp chow mein" shows stir-fried egg noodles with shrimp and vegetables. Instead, I was served mixed vegetables with a separate bag of crispy noodles. The fried rice in my photo was my own substitution for the white rice that normally comes with the lunch special, so that's not the issue. I already ate the shrimp before taking the photo, which is why they aren't pictured. The lunch portion only came with about four shrimp. If this restaurant serves a different regional style of chow mein, that should be clearly explained on the menu so customers know what they're ordering. When you order chow mein, you expect actual chow mein noodles--not vegetables with a side of rice and a bag of crunchy noodles. Unfortunately, this wasn't what I ordered or expected, and I wouldn't order it again.

I liked the people, the place, the menu, the location, but honestly I paid $30 for leftovers that I can't eat. It's a shame. I've never before seen anything this greasy. The owner came out to my car after I exited and asked why I didn't like it. While I respect that, he explained that what appeared as grease was instead, sauce, and that it was flash fried. The problem is that neither the sauce nor grease had taste or spice. When I placed several pieces of beef on a napkin, they saturated the napkin with oil. Maybe it's an oily sauce? They were generous with the beef. The beef quality was pretty good, and the vegetables were unique enough to merit praise. If it were me, I would ramp up the taste quotient in either the marinade or sauce, eliminate 90% of the oil, as it's unnecessary, and add spice. This could be a healthy dish if they used avocado oil, way less oil, and reduced the salt.
