I was a little apprehensive to order from here after reading the reviews, but I was hungry and it was near so I decided to just go at it! Really glad I did because I'm super picky about the Chinese food I eat, and this one was great! We ordered the chef's special and it was absolutely loaded. Fried rice, an egg roll, and a BUNCH of the dish. Got General Tso's chicken and my boyfriend got orange chicken. Both came with huge portions - both of the fried rice and the chicken. Chicken was super flavorful! It wasn't just the regular breaded white meat thrown into sauce - the chicken was seasoned for sure. Sauce wasn't overly sweet, though the General Tso's and the orange chicken sauce was pretty similar in taste. Difference was that the orange chicken had actual orange peels in it. Both good though! Loved the service, loved the food. Price is great, and I'm excited to come back and try more! read more

After taking a bite of the egg roll (which apparently had peanut sauce), we had to rush to the ER. when we called to speak to the owner/manager, they refused to refund us and stated that we needed to bring the food back. OK, I need to clarify this..by calling it "takeout" I mean the Americanized version, chicken often breaded, sticky and sweet..Not authentic. I'm one of the few it seems that enjoys both types. Sometimes I crave my chicken sweet and breaded, so sue me. That being said, back to my original review... Very good Chinese takeout with large portions and excellent value. General Tso's is some of the better I've had in OKC..sweet, spicy with the vinegar kick all equally covered. It was overbreaded some and a bit mild, but definitely on the right track. They said I can customize the sauce, so next visit I'm going to try to crank up the volume. Spicy Shrimp was pretty good as well, but the loads of tiny diced vegetables were kind of hard to eat with the tiny, flimsy plastic forks. Spicy sauce is not that spicy, just sweet and sour simmered, simple, but it went well with the shrimp. Shrimp were perfectly cooked. TIP: order the Dragon & Pheonix for $9.95 and they will let you combine hefty portions of 2 different entrees. The family here is very friendly and accommodating. We dined in, but the place is really more set up for takeout and delivery. They don't even have cups for water, and bottled water costs 75 cents. One issue...is the annoyingly loud door bell really necessary? Maybe turn it down some? It was very loud to everyone waiting or dining up front. read more

I find myself overcome by gastrointestinal discomfort after frequenting most other Chinese takeout places. But China River has never quickened my bowels. Pretty bad faux Chinese food AND a hilariously bad restaurant name. (Did no one tell the owners what the words "China river" conjure up in the average consumer's noggin? Speak to a native speaker of English before you spend a small fortune on branding, people.) No one wants to think of industrial waste and human turds floating along side by side down the Yangtze before said river floods banks and kills five million Han Chinese peasants in the rice paddies. The customer service here could certainly use work, too. (I found it very terse and even a little rude.) Greasy, sugar-coated, ersatz "Chinese" dishes -- oy gevalt. And Styrofoam and plastic waste out the butt? Yup -- you nailed it. Want a glass of water? You must buy it in a bottle here -- there is no complimentary tap water to be found. We order takeout here at least once a month. It is soo good and affordable and has very generous portions. I didn't even get a picture of our food before it was halfway gone. Expect at least 20 crab Rangoons in your order for only like $5. The food is ready by the time I drive up may to pick it up. This is our staple local restaurant for Chinese food. My favorite Chinese in the area, tons of food at a great price. The egg roll was on point, but the fried rice was not pan seared as I'm used to in most places i have eaten (still good). I always get the general tsos chicken to test a Chinese restaurant, it's basically however they want to make it considering it's a different dish everywhere you go. They did a good job of passing the test. Orange chicken actually tastes of orange zest, which isn't as pronounced usually. Overall I'll be going back to try more traditional Chinese cuisine here and looking forward to it. read more

As a Village resident, China River is my go-to chinese delivery place. The food always arrives on time and is always piping hot. My favorite items are the egg drop soup and shrimp lo mein. I've also ordered the pork dumplings, which are delicious as well. I've tried other chinese delivery places nearby, but I always come back to China River. read more

Came here for a quick lunch and ordered Kung pao chicken. I'm very weird about my kung pao. I like my chicken in small pieces. Not the big chicken pieces that some Chinese restaurants like to give. It needs to be cooked right. I've perhaps been spoiled at my favourite Chinese place (can't name it here). I feel like most places come very far behind when it comes to good Kung pao chicken. I didnt expect miracles but I hoped it was decent for a $6 meal combo. The price was excellent! The combo came with your choice of egg roll or soup... I wanted soup. It comes with pork fried rice as well. Let me tell you! This place made good Kung pao! I was surprised! Also the egg roll was wonderful! The red sauce for the egg roll was so hot that it almost melted the container it was in. The fried rice was made RIGHT!! Just piping hot and flavourful!! I was just thrilled!!! I am defenitly becoming a regular! Was it the best I ever had? No ... was it good enough to enjoy as a fast, cheep meal ... yes!! This is a great fast Chinese place! i ordered delivery and everything was still hot. The Egg Drop soup and Sweet and Sour chicken was ok. The Singapore Chow Mai Fun was not good at all. It had way too much Turmeric that is was the only flavor you could taste and I like Turmeric. I threw that one away. read more

We had China River delivered by Postmates. The prices aren't bad. And the selection is good. But unfortunately the food is quite bland. The give three options of "mild," "medium," and "hot" and yet even though we indicated "medium" there was no spice what so ever. This is the second time we have ordered take out from China River, and unfortunately boring is the recurring theme. Not bad in a pinch, but there is much better Chinese in the area. read more

Had lunch there and it was wonderful. Food was cooked fresh and made to order per our request. Was delicious!! Highly recommend. The broccoli beef was so tender not chewy or oily like Most places. The egg rolls were crispy, the house made sweet and sour sauce was perfect as were the house made crab rangoons. They have taken all necessary safety health precautions per CDC and then some. We went there this Saturday night. After we got home with our order we realized it was wrong returned our entire order to them for a refund. The girl taking our order was very rude and inattentive. They gave us 3 items we didn't order. Left off our main item. Did not package hot item correctly and I burned my hand when I tried to reach for it in the bag not aware that the lid was loose. Not all employees were wearing masks. The man there was argumentative about everything.. First time ordering and it was not great. Their crab Rangoon was good, egg roll fair, General Tso's was ok but their "fried rice" was awful. Just yellow flavorless rice (not pan seared) with a few peas and carrots. Won't be ordering again. Now Yummy Yummy is much closer and has much better rice and chicken. I would give this place a zero. Our office ordered food at 6:00pm and then at 8:00pm the delivery driver called and said he was here but the door was locked. Now they said it would be 15 minutes and then 2 hours later they tried to deliver?.. Needless to say we were gone. Then they text and said they would give us food fast if we ordered again. So the next day we ordered told them what happened and she cursed at us and said "How about we won't ever deliver to you again"...
