It just kept getting worse! We have been here about 5-6 times now and won't be going back. The first room to the left of the entrance smells like a diaper changing room. I literally checked under the table to see if there was a diaper or something but only found a bunch of food (about a half plate worth ). I looked over at the other tables and noticed the carpet is disgusting!!!! The customer service....nonexistent. The food....Hit and miss with almost everything, some days the fried section taste like old burnt oil. Sometimes the ice cream area looks like kids had an ice cream fight....oh wait they did. A couple of years ago we treated an old friend from Anza to lunch at this place when it was China Buffet or something and I guess he really liked it so when he called to say he would be in town a few days ago he asked if we could go back to that place. We've always liked it and had actually thought it had improved with the new ownership so that was fine with us. I started with the Mongolian BBQ which I tried to keep small but I think it doubled in size when she cooked it. It was okay but not wonderful. One thing that WAS wonderful was a casserole that included lots of cheese and the Krab. Now I normally don't rave about anything containing imitation crab but this one was really delicious. I especially like their green beans, mushrooms, mussels and peel and eat shrimp. The crawfish are pretty messy (or is it crayfish?). The sushi was good for the price. I got full before I got to the crab unfortunately. Nor did I have room for dessert so I can't comment on that. They gave us the senior discount without my husband even asking which was very nice. I've been visiting the China Super Buffet for years now, even though I have moved out of the area. I now live about 30 minutes away but still make the trek every so often, almost completely for the all you can eat crab legs. YUM! This place has it all, sushi, a stir fry grill, Chinese favorites, a dessert bar and most importantly crab legs. To be honest, if you don't like crab or they're out of crab when you go (don't worry that has never happened to me!) then this is a 2 star location. I really wouldn't visit more than 1x a year or so, because everything else is not that great. My advice to the CSB is to hike up the prices a bit (15$ buffet dinner is still cheap vs the current 12.99) and provide a higher quality of food. We just got in the car and drove. Found ourselves on El Cajon Blvd. driving east into the unknown territories of east county. Me: What about that Chinese buffet in La Mesa? He: The one my mom liked going to...sure. It use to be called something else...but now it's called Tasty Garden which sounds more like a salad bar. I didn't even see a salad. They changed the decor a little and added a sushi bar and Mongolian Bar-B-Q grill. Everything else looked pretty much the same. Most items were either deep fried or somewhat greasy. I liked the orange chicken and the heart attack peanut butter chicken...LOL! The bar-b-q was better than I expected. The sushi was fair. Overall, it's decent for the price. What I didn't like was the dessert selection. It looks the same as all the rest. There is seriously no creativity. And they have the same desserts as all the other Chinese buffets. As I write this review, my stomach is still not feeling up to par. I ate lunch here with my mother because it was close to where I work & we knew it would be quick since it was a buffet. It was my first time here. I liked the setup of the place & everything *looked* clean. Apparently not. The food tasted pretty bland. The best thing I had there was the soft serve ice cream. I'm also not very fond of Chinese American food. The main reason I'm writing this is to tell you that I got sick within 10 minutes of leaving! The minute I got to work, my stomach started hurting. I ignored it & then ended up in the restroom twice. My boss told me I looked pale & suggested I take time off from work. I hadn't eaten anything else for breakfast, as I had woken up only a few hours earlier so I deduced eating here is the most likely cause. I'm 100% Chinese & although I have delicious homemade Chinese meals every night (made by my amazing mom!), I've definitely had better food at Chinese buffets. I don't think I'm being overcritical. Disappointed & will probably not come here again after this experience. If I ever decided to chance it again, I feel like I'd be risking my health... I so wanted to give them 4 stars because they had crayfish but they really are barely a three star place. First, the pros: You can't beat $12.99 for a Sunday night buffet dinner. There's a lot of choices too in this buffet, more than in other Chinese buffets I've been to. Their seafood selection can't be beat. There's a good selection of desserts as well. And again, there's crawfish! Then the cons: The main dining room stinks. It smells old and moldy and kind of bathroom-y. The tables and booths are clean but the carpet seems like it's never been cleaned since it opened. You'll get used to the smell, as one does, but it really is very off-putting. The quality of the food is also very hit and miss. You really do get what you pay for. The crab legs were great, the meat was firm, juicy and sweet (no need for butter). The crawfish was so-so. Very flavorful but some turned mealy from being kept heated for so long (but I'd return for them when I get a hankering for crawfish). In all, their seafood was the best of what I tried. The salmon was good, so were the mussels, fried shrimp and scallops. It was everything else that was meh. The hot and sour soup lacked flavor. It had a bit if heat and it wasn't lacking in ingredients but not even soy sauce could save it taste wise. The roast beef had a very weird texture, almost like it was done sous vide before roasting. It felt boiled and over-cooked but tender at the same time. Tender verging on mushy. It didn't have a lot of flavor and the gravy was tasteless. I took one bite and gave up. I hate wasting food but I couldn't force myself to eat it. I liked the vegetarian mushroom dish but that's really simple and hard to eff up. The kung pao chicken was nothing special and the French style beef was anything but! First off, it was sweet! And the flavor profile is vaguely Chinese. I don't know what's French about it but the name. I did like the lobster roll, it reminded me of home. One of the few bright spots there food wise. Careful though as they can be dripping with grease. I had to roll one up in napkins to get rid of as much oil as I could. As far as desserts go, you can't go wrong with the fresh fruit. I didn't see a chocolate fountain but I think there's was a container full of melted chocolate that you can dip the fruit in. Didn't try it, you've tried one chocolate fountain, you've tried them all. The pudding with icing was okay. The candied peanuts were not to my taste. They put some spices in them and the taste kinda threw me off. I always like fried doughnuts and theirs are passable, just too chewy for my taste. No one goes to a cheap Chinese buffet expecting gourmet. This is so not gourmet but I would have appreciated if the food was better tasting. A lot lacked flavor and too many of the meats became mealy (probably because they cook big batches in the morning and just kept them permanently warm throughout the day). The wait staff assigned to our section was nice and efficient though. She was quick to ask if we wanted refills and also cleared our plates promptly. It was the lady out front who took care of listing everyone down that was a bit brusque but she did try to be efficient as well. The guy in charge of the till wasn't very friendly as well but gave a surprised smile when I thanked him. Maybe they're just not used to friendly patrons? For the price, you get a great deal. Then again, it is your typical Chinese buffet so nothing really stands out about it. When you walk in their not really helpful. They seat you, take your drink order, and then never come back. I had to flag a waitress down every time I needed a refill and she brought the wrong soda the second time. When you're consuming all of that sodium, you need your beverage people! The good thing about this place is that they are relatively clean. They keep their food items stock and change them frequently. Even if you're getting there an hour before closing. Most buffets lack this quality. The buffet offers a lot to choose from, but much of it does not taste good. Restaurant is not clean, as in, my shoes stick to the carpet, mirrors have handprints/fingerprints everywhere, we were at a table w/ a large flatscreen tv directly above our heads, covered in dust. Crab was previously frozen, wet and soggy--not worth eating. Only 3 vegetables were offered at the entire buffet: green beans, broccoli and bland cabbage. The desserts/fruit had flies swarming about, children were allowed to serve themselves and touch everything. A customer literally coughed into the fruit as I was standing there. I should've known with the 3 stars that I shouldn't of even given this place a chance but I was so excited to try a Chinese buffet that offered crab legs, I went against my better judgement. We went on a Sunday around lunch it wasn't that busy and we were seated right away. We had a total of 5 adults and a baby. We explained that one of the adults weren't gonna eat so we will just pay for 4 if that was ok. That was fine. I noticed the plates were a LOT smaller than usual. They had a noodle bar which was pretty cool. You choose all your ingredients and take it to the stove top where someone will cook it for you. The food was the same typical food you'd see at any other Chinese buffet. Unfortunately, the crab legs that I was most excited for did not meet my expectations. The legs were WAY too skinny and it was just bland. Not an ounce of salt or pepper to taste. The only thing I liked were the salted pepper shrimps and the French fries. Half way through our meal, the waitress asked how old the baby was which I told her he was one. I thought that was odd that she'd ask me half way. They were pretty diligent about picking up plates and refilling drinks. The bad part of the experience was when it was time to pay. They still charged us for 5 but I understood that since one of us didn't eat we can take a to go container. So when we went to the front to pay, one of the employees handed us 2 to go containers. My family had already paid and were just waiting on me to fill up on food. We walked out and halfway into the parking lot, the lady runs out saying she needs to weigh the plates. I thought that was odd but I followed her in and then proceeded to charge me a price. I had explained to her that since one of us didn't eat, we were given a to go container since we were charged 5. She said that a to go was a different price. I checked and yes it was cheaper and she asked why did I have 2 to go plates when only one us didn't eat. I said that's how many you gave me. My family came behind me and was very upset about the misunderstanding so I had to reassure them it was a misunderstanding. I told them we informed them of the situation and went off what they gave us. She seemed highly upset that I packed the food and they would have to put it back. Lots of this back and forth attitude a couple of times. I try to understand as much as I can since I have background in food and customer service but the way they handled THEIR misunderstanding was not right when they made me feel like it was my fault. So I just asked for my money back. They didn't want to at first but I told them they informed us wrong and I just wanted my money back. That ruined it for me so I wouldn't come back here. read more

I've been here many times and this review will be a summation of all my experiences here. Theres plenty of seating and trust me these seats do get filled on a regular basis. It usually gets crowded on weekends and much more accessible during the week. The servers don't speak much english and don't care too much for customer service as well. That would have to be my only complaint for this resturant, but hey, it's a buffet. You don't go to a buffet to expect excellent customer service. If you're into seafood, this is the place for you. They have some of the best sushi I have tasted at a buffet. Please see pictures for examples of the sushi. They serve snow crab and craw fish and they cycle all the food frequently so you're not eating lunch's crab at dinner time. Dinner is 14.99 which i would consider reasonable for all you can eat crab. After COVID, I've seen many of our family favorite buffets close in Chula Vista and ended up stopping by here. I love that they provide gloves to serve yourself and the food is great. They serve both Chinese food and sushi, which my family loved. We have been a few times and is becoming a regular spot for us. Happy we found this little gem. read more

I had the salmon and I could taste how many hours it had been sitting out. Anything that had to taste at least a little fresh, wasn't. I came back today again and that is twice in the same month. I noticed a new waitress today that was actually really sweet and actually spoke more than would you like more soda? My food again was fresh and have started to notice that when ever POP (The Dad) is there that everything runs smoothly and the place stays good. When the daughter is there things seem to be more social. Today I stared with fresh ginger as well as raw garlic for health reasons and then a spicy tuna roll along with a seaweed eel roll. The wasabi today was really fresh and amazing! I had tempura sweet potatoes, green beans, mango and shrimp. I just love the egg drop soup here. I ate the cheese mussels (which seemed a bit over cooked this time) and the octopus salad topped with just a bit of the seaweed salad. I ate chicken dumplings and a sauteed mushroom that was amazing. I ate a lobster roll that I didn't care for very much because it was pretty greasy. I had pepper shrimp and snap green beans along with the most important stuffed cream cheese thing. Fried bananas I just love. The Dim sum was also really good especially with the sauce. I really want to give more stars SO for today I am increasing it just because I liked the waitress. I don't know what other people are talking about, but this place is about as close as it gets to real tasty Chinese food! Great selection & service.. The sushi bar is added incentive! I eat lots of sushi, and they do well here. The also have seafood, Mongolian, dessert, and salad bars. I love all the different vegetable varieties you find here. They never let my glass get low either. The price is just what you'll expect for a Chinese Buffet, but the quality and choices separate this place from all others in SD. I think i'll taste this meal every time I breath. The service here is great, and they definitely are quick to refill your drink & take your empty plates. The best time to go for lunch would be around 1:30 or 2. You can definitely tell the food they serve in the morning is from the day before. They do have a variety of good food, but unfortunately their food is barely warm and soggy. Family and friends wanted to try this out and after reading the previous reviews, I was VERY hesitant. After experiencing for myself, I can see why... The ONLY best thing about this place was their steamed snow leg crabs for dinner after 5pm. Other than that, everything was NASTY. They have a make your own Mongolian stir fry & sushi section along with various Chinese stir fry dishes, dessert items (chocolate fountain), etc. Place was messy and workers were just standing around when they could have cleaned up the buffet area periodically. All the stir fry dishes that I tried, the meat & seafood tasted old. Chow Mein & Fried Rice had no flavor as well as their Egg Drop soup. Left with a stomachache, had to drink some hot green tea after to help with that. Most of the food here are not hot. I don't think their food warmers are working at all. If you have not been on this location for a while, don't expect it will be the same prior to pandemic. Being that it's Sunday, I guess they have their Sunday menu out which included crab legs, crawfish, and they even had frog legs (not sure if this is always on their regular menu). Was there a few days ago and the service sucks. The cashier was really rude. Didn't smile or say hi. We had just arrived and she was already cashing us out. I didn't let that bother me. But when we sat down one of the employees told us that we couldn't seat in that area because it was closed so we had to move. So we go the front and ask them where we can sit and the same girl that cash us out ask for our ticket.
