This place is really good. Although the outside of this place kind of looks run down, the inside wasn't too bad. Everything was clean except for the bathrooms. Service here is really good. We felt like family the moment we stepped into this place. Met up with a friend and his family after graduation and everything was really well done. Thurs 6/23 $15 It'll be a negative for this dump. Bc of the rave review by my aunt and her daughter, I decided to pick up some takeout. They said it looks like crap but the food was astounding. To my surprise, its a joint Ive seen for about 15 yrs growing up in the leaf. They close at 10p, I got there at 9:40 and ordered. 10:10p is when my 2 dishes came out. I had no idea what to order and decided to get something Ive never ordered in my entire life--$5.99 lemon chicken. Same as sweet & sour chicken but lemon flavored. Their lemon chicken confirmed why I never ordered this dish. It was edible......... but something I would feed to the birds. Dry, bad tasteless batter, and watery lemon sauce that I asked for on the side since I was driving my meal home. The Mr. ordered $7.99 salt/pepper eggplant w/ shrimp bc of the enticing feedback he read off yelp. It didnt dawn on him that it was fried....I ordered fried. There is an unwritten law that you cannot order a fried dish when I ordered a fried dish (or 2 noodle dishes, fried rice dishes, etc). So, here we are, 2 fools with 2 fried dishes. He thought his eggplant was going to be sauteed in some kind of salt pepper seasoning or sauce with shrimps floating around. This could be his fault....to not link the fact that salt pepper toasted means fried. Ugh. While I was there waiting for half and hour and After their closing time, I asked for water. The lady tilted a huge, white bucket over, scooped out ice and water (from the melted ice) and filled my glass with it. Of course I took it appreciatively but did I take a sip? Youse crazy. I saw the whole thing and was just thinking, is she really doing this in front of my face, behind the bar, and not in the back kitchen?!! This lady heaa Iono.............. Average. The chicken wing appetizer was fair. They tasted good, but the ginger and other flavors were way too subtle in most bites. With a heavier hand on the seasoning they would have been wonderful. As they were, I rate them merely good, as most fried chicken wings taste good. The salt toasted sea bass was fried and had a strong salt and garlic taste as advertised. The fish flavor itself was excellent. I loved the scallions and jalepenos served on the fish. The only shortcoming with this dish is that the breading on the fish was not as crisp as I expected. It was skirting dangerously close to the soggy side even though it was hot and in all other respects seemed to be served immediately upon completion in the kitchen. Another dish that was average to perhaps slightly above average was the garlic chicken. The garlic sauce was solid and the vegetables had a perfectly crisp and crunchy finish. The dark meat chicken was inconsistent in texture, however, preventing me from declaring this a flawless dish. The eggrolls were pedestrian. I used to go here 2-3 times a week because it was so amazing! Salt toasted spare ribs, salt toasted calamari, and salt toasted anything else! I swear they must put crack in it. I've gotten my entire family and friends hooked on this place. They rarely go anywhere else when we all eat out together. (I come from a family of 8 people!) We always get the family-style dinner for 10 (because we are gluttonous) and it is so delicious and affordable. I will definitely make the trek from Pearland to this place. Oh btw, the two ladies that own the restaurant are super awesome. They see us come by so often, they would already serve our preferred beverages and put in our food order without us having to even say anything. Just a head nod will do. read more

Definitely my boyfriend and I's go to spot for authentic Chinese food! The exterior and interior of the restaurant is outdated but it definitely doesn't take away from the food experience. We have tried the salt toasted ribs, salt toasted squid, beef and broccoli flat noodles, bird's nest (seafood version and beef version), ma pow tofu, and so much more. These dishes have never disappointed! The food is always fresh and hot when taken to our tables. The ladies are very friendly and help with making dish selections whenever we're unsure with what to get. read more

The Salt-toasted Pork Ribs are great here! My whole office loves them for lunch and we always order at least two. I also like to get their baby bokchoy or kang kong steamed with garlic I'm not sure if that's on the menu though.. Oh and the soft shell crab is pretty good as well. I would recommend this place to people who don't mind smaller hole in the wall places, because despite the setting the food is truly worth trying! I came in sooo hungry thinking I'm gonna put yum yum food in my tummy but I left the restaurant disappointed. 1. Chicken wings- very disappointed after reading how good they are supposed to be. Wings were small but were covered in thick batter. I couldn't even bit through some parts of the wing cus they were so so so tough. I gave up after eating 1 wing. I think my gum was bleeding after eating that 1 wing (seriously, no joke) And it had no taste. 2. Peking style spareribs- again, very tough. Over fried before coating that thick red sauce. Tiny pieces of ribs with mostly bones, so we were pretty much eating sweet and sour fried batter *sigh* 3. Fried Tofu- Crispy on the outside and soft inside, didn't have much taste but at least my gum didn't bleed when eating tofu. 4. Stirfry mango chicken- Best part of this dish is the mango. Chicken was tender but tasted too chickeny. I don't know, it's weird, although they were stirfry together but somehow I felt like I was eating mango and chicken separately. 5. Fried "long Li" fish with soy sauce dip- the sauce was good but I swear there was NO MEAT on the fish. My mom was even trying to find them excuse by saying long li fish only have 1 side of meat. I've never heard of that! I know some fish have more of a flat meat but this fish was 20% flaky meat and the rest bones! I think they probably shave the meat off for some other dish and use the remaining portion and fry it. *shake head* no no no good. And I forgot to mention, I ordered a small bowl of hot and sour soup thinking they are old school and the soup must be good. And wrong again! Soup was so watered down I didn't taste much hot or sour or the bamboo shoots or the meat or anything.... Believe me I am not a picky eater but my experience here is just not that good. I am sorry for sharing these comments but hopefully this could help them improve. I may give them a try again next time when my teeth/gum recover from eating all that hard batter. read more

Absolutely the best Chinese food my family has had! The service was great and fast. The food as at the table within 15 minutes of ordering. We ordered the sesame chicken, vegetable fried rice, shirmp lo mein, chicken lol mein, beef and broccoli beef with straw mushrooms, egg rolls and steamed rice. The portions were huge, definitely sharable sizes. Will be coming back every time we are in Houston Texas. read more

So maybe I ordered the wrong thing (spicy chicken and crab puffs) but OMG I had to throw it away it was so gross. I didn't care about the décor I've ate at plenty of hole in the walls with great food. But I could even eat this it was so gross. First I'm very picky but I like white meat chicken especially when it comes to Chinese food this chicken had gristle and fat. The spicy sauce wasn't spicy. The list goes on. I got white rice so you can't go wrong with that. To add insult to injury however the cream cheese puffs were gross. The cream cheese filling had a sour taste to it. SMH how can you mess up a cream cheese puff??? How sway? How? We need answers. The moral of this story is just don't do it. So maybe I need to try one of the pork dishes because all the reviews with high scores here are mainly those but if your like me and pork isn't your jam then STAY AWAY. read more

My parents order take out from this place at least once a month because it's so close to our house and a dollar cheaper than Chinatown. They always order the beef flat noodles and 1 other noodle dish. When the cook is in the mood, he sure know how to cook his Cantonese noodles. I would rate this place higher, but this place drives me bonkers because their food is inconsistent, and half the time I don't know what to expect. Every time it's a surprise. Most recently, the cook decided to put in an overwhelming amount of bean sprout, but last month, it was an overwhelming amount of onions, and another time it was an overwhelming amount of meat! And sometimes, they don't put enough sauce or oil. Unfortunate for me, there will continue to be more surprises in the future until someone in my family learns how to make beef flat noodles since it's my mom's favorite dish. We usually also order the Shanghai style noodles, but have been branching out since my mom learned how to make that dish. You should only go there if you're looking for cheap and good food, nothing else, although the service is better compared to other Chinese restaurants in the same price range. So if you're afraid of the area at night, just go during daylight. Got sweet and sour delight and kung pao chicken for lunch today. Both without MSG and Kung pao not so spicy. Very average food. In fact I thought I had seen most of the cons out there, but here was a new one. The fried sweet and sour had 4 pieces of just fried batter..... big enough to give the impression there might be something inside. I really have to start walking out of more restaurants when; a) Place looks dirty. There is no excuse for not cleaning properly, or repaint walls with stains on them. If customer side is less than clean, don't expect the cooking side to be cleaner...it will be many times worse. Not enough inspectors out there to cover all food establishments on a regular basis. b) Staff could not give a damn and look miserable, or reluctantly answer your questions. This usually means owner doesn't give a damn about workers and you will find this reflected in the food. c) One of the staff acknowledged that the restaurant had changed hands since I was last there. read more

This was such a great place to go eat. The menu had so many items and had such a variety of food. The food we had was excellent and everything was so tasty and fresh. We had egg foo young, green beans with shredded pork and tofu with roast pork and vegetables. The green beans with shredded pork didn't have preserved pickled vegetables like how I usually like it, but I didn't mind. The atmosphere was very friendly as they greeted us once we walked in. This hole in the wall Houston Chinese restaurant is my family's favorite place. It's super cheap, down home Cantonese cooking. My family loves this place so much, I had my wedding reception here - we had about 60 people and it cost $350!!!! That's dirt cheap. I have driven by this restaurant at least a million times over the past 20 + years. I never knew how good it was until tonight. We had their firend chicken wings which is one of their more popular dishes and it was terrific. It had a garlicky, ginger flavor. The sizzling beef was tasty as well as the fried rice and crispy seafood noodles. We also had the crab and asparagus soup which actually had a good amount of crab in it. My favorite dish is the pork, eggplant with garlic in clay pot. It's very savory and I'm not even a big eggplant person but it hits the spot. The salted pork tips are excellent too.
