I went to Pho Van Noodles & Grill some time last year because I was shopping next door at 2nd Debut Furniture store. I suddenly got hungry. I didn't feel like driving anywhere but come here for lunch. I always wanted to come here but somehow I missed it. The restaurant is average size but the service was top of the line. I felt welcomed as I walked in. The menu is very organized and everything is in English. The server spoke English. My food came out pretty quick. I ordered a small pho with flank steak and meatballs. My first time eating at this restaurant (I ordered take out) I usually eat at the chinese restaurant next door Feng Ling but wanted to try something new. I ordered the lunch special which is one drink, a roll, and a choice of an entrée. I chose a shrimp spring roll which was rolled way too big. When I bit into it everything fell out, however the peanut sauce was tasty. Would have preferred like 2 or 3 small rolls instead of one big roll. For my entrée I picked shrimp vermicelli. So underwhelming. No flavor and extremely bland! The peanuts weren't even chopped just placed in their whole or cut in half. The two times I've been here my experience was excellent. The food was a 4/5 but I'll round it up to a 5 because the service was amazing. Our server gave us a warm welcome & she was very kind. The decor is neat and the restaurant is clean; even the restrooms were spotless. Walking in you can feel the quiet/calm atmosphere with music that'll put you to sleep. It definitely had me sleepy after my meal. I decided to order their lunch special which comes with a drink (no refills) /appetizer and a choice of Pho, Vietnamese Sandwich, Rice plate or Vermicelli noodle bowl. I got the pho with lean brisket & spring rolls as the appetizer. The spring rolls were fresh like they just rolled it. The peanut was exceptional, it was creamy and had the right amount of nuttiness to it. I just wish they gave me more because it wasn't enough. The pho was very good. The broth was savory, clean & not too oily. It also had a sweetness to it which I like. The brisket was tendered and melt in your mouth. The noodles were cooked perfectly but I didn't get a lot of it. My friend said he received a lot of noodles but not a lot of protein, it was the opposite for myself. My portion of the meat was generous but the noodles were a little skimpy. I still left full though. Overall, I was very satisfied with my experience. Considering prices are higher now and days I'll say $15 for lunch isn't so bad. I do want to add that even though this restaurant isn't in Chinatown/Viet-town, it's better than most of them in that area. Love this little spot on Westheimer. While I prefer Chinatown for my Vietnamese needs, this serves as a solid spot in the Westchase area. First and foremost, I love how neat and clean it is here. The condiment caddy was well kept. The owners obviously care about their restaurant. It's not a huge space, so be prepared at peak times. On my last visit, I ordered the chicken pho. The broth is on the sweeter side, and only breast meat is available. I prefer skin on leg meat. But, given their patrons in the area, I understand their reason for this. The large portion was hearty and came out extra hot like I requested. There was plenty to take home for the next day. The lady working the dining room by herself was very sweet. Even though me and my friend arrived 10 minutes before opening, she still served us and had our food out super quickly! I got a shrimp spring roll as my appetizer (forgot to get a picture cause I was too hungry) but let me tell you, it's the biggest spring roll I have ever seen at a vietnamese restaurant. This is one of our go-to places when we don't feel like driving to Bellaire, even though Bellaire is only a few more minutes of driving. (I hate driving and we live nearby.) We were looking for a new Vietnamese that was more convenient and accessible that going to Chinatown and fighting the Friday night crowds and traffic. So, I scoured Yelp to find something that might fit our Friday night needs. I called Pho Van to check if they were busy and to see if they served wine or beer. The cheerful lady who answers said no problem with seating us, but they didn't serve wine or beer. However, she said we were welcome to bring our own wine or beer. When we arrived the restaurant was empty, not a good sign on a Friday night. Since we were there and Yelp's review were great, we decided to give it a go. The single person in the front of the house must have been the same cheerful person I talked with on the phone, she was very gracious and extremely welcoming. When she saw we had brought a couple of bottles wine, she went back to get us some "glasses"; she returned with 4 Styrofoam cups and apologized for not having "glasses". We all laughed and commenced pouring our wine into the makeshift wine glasses. We started with appetizers of Shrimp Soft Rolls, Crispy Eggrolls and Crispy Dumplings. The eggrolls were served with leaves of lettuce and cilantro for wrapping and spicy fish sauce, excellent. I wasn't impressed with the Crispy Dumplings, nothing special, the chicken stuffing was tasty, but the skins were a bit too crispy. I liked the Shrimp Soft Rolls with peanut sauce; typical rolls but lacking some of herbs to freshen the up . For entrees we had, Combo Vermicelli Bowls, Pho White Meat Chicken and Shrimp Pad Thai. The Vermicelli Bowls were great, full of beef and pork, only negative were the only 3 small shrimp; fish sauce was sweet, salty, and spicy. Thick slices of chicken breast were the center of the Pho which had a tasty broth, accompanied by a plate of bean sprouts, 5 jalapeno slices, and some Thai basil. I though it was strange to see the Pad Thai on the Pho Shop menu, but one diner decided to go with it, she was pleased with her choice and said it rivaled de some of her favorite Thai restaurants. In conclusion, Pho Van is nice little café, must be more of lunch place based on the dinner crowd, we were the only guest from 6:45 when we arrived until 8:00 when we departed. The lady, not sure if she was the owner, manager, server or what, but she was extremely helpful, friendly, cheerful, and accommodating. Nice place, but nothing that really sets it apart from the many other great Pho shops around Houston. Ability to bring in your own beer and wine is big plus. read more

This was an overall pleasant experience. FOOD-The food was good, not the best I've had, but good. My husband ordered the P7 and he liked it. Lacked flavor though. The noodles were good and the meat was good quality. I ordered the HS2, which is beef that was supposed to be in their TOK-HOT sauce. I was actually pretty disappointed because the dish wasn't what it appeared to be in the menu description. It was good, but when you're expecting something it can be upsetting. I also ordered the spring rolls which were a huge miss! The peanut sauce was good but the quality of the spring roll was terrible. All in all, we will call the food average. Pho Van is a small and cozy shop located on Westheimer and Wilcrest. They're located right behind the Walgreens so it's a bit hidden. The two time I've been here, the shop has been clean and pretty empty. The owner is really friendly and greets customers with a smile. Service overall has been great the two time we've visited. The Pho is isn't the best I've had but it is pretty good. The broth is on the lighter side instead of rich. My boyfriend thinks it's refreshing and doesn't make him feel so bad about eating it. The egg rolls are good but a bit small for the price. I enjoyed the fried dumplings which came out really hot and perfectly crispy. The beef stew I had on my last visit was decent. I enjoyed it but felt like the stew itself was pretty empty. There was a couple of beef slices in there, thinly sliced carrot and onions but I felt like I was just drinking broth a majority of the time.
