We went yesterday for 5 orders and it was the biggest mistake ever. We were greeted by a big woman with a bad attitude that was bothered because we were ordering and she had to do her job. Half the items on the menu were mising. The food was bland and undercooked. The noodles were stale and hard. They tasted like they were from the day before. Broccoli has super hard and the beef had no seasoning. The general's chicken was also mushy with huge pieces and some really tiny. The flavor was off..weird tasting. We ended up giving our food to the dogs. For that business's sake I hope this isn't an everyday thing because they'll find themselves going out of business. Find yourself better employees! The one guy at the front was really friendly though. I went there because it was recommended as a good place by friends and family. What a mistake! I should have stuck to my usual place. read more

Food was well prepared, & very fresh. Chow-mein is a little on the thick side. However, vegetables were fresh as I ordered them raw. Not to mention really good customer service as there were no vegetables present the worker made them fresh from the back for me. I was very satisfied with the EXTRA service! Those who give not so great reviews, what were you expecting? Just because the name says: Chinese Gourmet, don't be fooled! It's not the worst and it's not the best! Chinese fast food, everything is cooked ahead of time and placed on a stream table with heat lamps! For 4.99 and 2.19 for a bottled soda, my appetite was satisfied. I got 2 items: bourbon chicken and fried rice. I thought both were good, the chicken was nicely grilled and the rice, not too greasy. I was able to add a dalop of chili garlic sauce at the side, which made it delicious and spicy. Will I be back? Perhaps and maybe I'll try something new! This place sure is better than the Chinese Fast Food at the Austin Bergstrom Airport and way better than the previous joint, Shangri La. read more

Bassett Food Court Chinese Gourmet: The food is decent, when it is available. Many items seem unavailable, you never know until you see the offerings in person. The biggest thing is that they have not offered white steamed rice for going on 4 months... this is a Chinese restaurant, HELLO! For a while, the server would volunteer to get some from their sister store Sansei Japan, on the opposite side of the food court, but that takes time, and backs up the line. The funny thing is, they always have fried rice! Pretty upsetting that this issue seems unimportant to management. I tried to find listings for a corporate office, but there isn't any. The service is good (that's why it's not a 1-star review) but I choose to eat elsewhere when I've waited in line only to find out that their rice cooker had not been repaired/ replaced. Last time I was there, the customer in front of me also left when told they didn't have steamed rice. Those are sales a business can NEVER get back; you'd think this would matter but apparently not. Oh, and I called today 02/02/21, and the cooker is STILL dead... Hey, at least put up a signif you don't have steamed rice so customers don't have to wait in line just to be disappointed. read more

The server was very rude and actually yelled at me for wanting napkins! I will never eat there again and I most likely won't ever eat at any Chinese gourmet express anywhere! It was a truly awful experience all around. read more
