Great food with huge portion at a very reasonable price. Had enough to last me the whole day, lunch and dinner.

Helll to the nahhh. This ain't Gourmet lol Cash only, there's atm machine inside charges 1.89 No where r sit down Food quality ain't there chief Orange chicken? More like sugar chicken Chow mein tasted saltier then the ocean itself. The ladies have soo much sass, I don't recommend spending your money here.

Metal wire in my food. Was wrapped in the celery.

Found a metal piece of wire in my food. Very dangerous, I could have choked. Even worst, could have fed my daughter with it. I don't recommend a un careful, unsanitary place like this.

I've been going to this place since I was a kid. They've had the same owners for at least 20 years. Lady with the huge bangs and visor was there, berating a new lady working there, in Chinese - like always. This place has never been great but it's convenient. Typical of Chinese fast food places, they fill up the two compartments with chow mein to avoid having to give you ACTUALLY what you pay for with a 1 or 2 item combo. I usually get honey walnut shrimp from this other place in Downey off of Imperial and Clark - and their food is AMAZING. Very generous and always tasty, but I thought I'd give Chinese Gourmet a shot with THEIR walnut shrimp. I asked for it and asked how long it would take, bangs lady said "5 minutes" it took way longer than that. I also asked how much it was, she said $11.99. that's over $13 with tax but I thought "ok, I'll give them a shot". I asked how much I was getting and bangs lady pointed to the large side order container. I thought "ok, at least it's a lot". I take it home and it's got WAY too much mayo and the candied walnuts they used were too sugary. I figured it's my fault, but at least I know not to order it. To my surprise, I got down to the bottom third of the takeout container and it was filled with fried chow mein noodles. I know times are tough right now but this is pathetic.

This is one of those spots for me. I have been coming here for about 10 years now. I am not around this area much anymore but one thing is for sure Chinese Gourmet hasn't changed, consistently putting out the same quality, amount and in the same building. Now to the food..... Cheap and large amounts! The take out foam boxes are stuffed with your choice of entrees with fried rice/ noodles (typical Chinese take out style). Its not your quality place it is definitely your quantity place. The price is reflecting of this as well. For me I know I not going to taste high quality food and really its almost a local deal if I am in the area. The one hit for everyone and myself is the Jalapeño Chicken, I can say this is in my section every time. Note: CASH ONLY

I have loved this place since I was a kid and nothing ever beats this place! It's good and they give you a lot of food. I don't think it's pricey. I think it's fine for the amount of food you get. Their black pepper chicken is so good too! Quick service as well, I'll always be coming back!

I had the Three Flavored Kung Pao, Skrimps, beeg and chicken. Honestly the chicken was not good, it tasted old. Like its been reheated or opened but unused before? Hard to explain. Shrimps were good, kung pao sauce was decent, but again just a "Meh" rating for me. Place is small, designed for take out only. Staff service was ok, just running through the motion. Parking is no issue as its in a strip mall with other businesses.

I will try them again because there are so many positives in the execution and preparation. The chicken pieces were plump and juicy, with crisp outsides and the shrimp were equally well done. However, the sauce for both lacked just a bit. Neither the lemon sauce for my Lemon Chicken or the honey mayo sauce for my Crispy Walnut were delicious. Both felt lacking in the spice and flavor department. All the elements were there, just need actual editing in these two recipes. They lacked any real flavor and the Crispy Walnut Shrimp sauce was a bit too watery. I wasn't too happy with my fifty dollar meal from My Home, however, they are so close! I would try other dishes from the restaurant in the future.

Our hands down favorite is the 3 flavor soup. It is awesome for cool weather, really anytime. Mushrooms, celery, broccoli, carrots, shrimp, chicken, and BBQ pork. Not tips and slices, and leftovers-nice sized chunks and pieces. This soup stands alone as a meal on it's own-and is filling. If you look at Pho restaurant prices, the 3 flavor soup is a better deal and a satisfying meal. April 2026 is chilly, get the soup, and be content, and full! If you try it once, I bet you'll have a new favorite. My wife loves it. I order no chow mein in the soup for low carbs. Served HOT. Pretty nice and decent indoor dining area for a takeout place- with marble table tops, and comfy seats, asian style wall images make it nice. Unlike some chinese places, they have a bathrooms for customers-helpful. Cold stone next door makes it a "one Plaza tummy pleaser!"

Kaowok - Downey, CA…read more I ordered the 2-item combo with steamed rice and chow mein, choosing orange chicken and BBQ pork as my main dishes. The portions were generous and packed with meat, which was definitely a plus. Unfortunately, the flavor was just average for me. I'd rather have a smaller portion with really great flavor than a large quantity that doesn't stand out. Overall, I wasn't impressed enough to come back. The food wasn't bad, but it just wasn't that great. I'd choose another spot next time.

Because let me tell you... it has been a **long, long time** since I've had Chinese food that made me believe in love again. Then the food came out. The rice? STICKY...PERFECTLY STICKY!!! Perfect. MOIST, not mushy... just minding its business and being amazing. Like, where have you been all my life? Why did you let me suffer like that? And the sweet and sour pork... listen... crispy on the outside, tender on the inside... it had layers. Emotional layers. I wasn't just eating, I was healing. The Broccoli and beef...game changer. The broccoli had a fresh snap to it mmmm fresh! But what blew me away was the beef, it resembled Wagu meet. So tender so flavorful. I was sitting there, slowly munching my night away, completely unbothered, living my best life like I had just found inner peace... in a takeout container, but better, it was on a plate! At one point I literally thought, "Is this what happiness tastes like?" Because I was in full "Wok Deli" Chinese style. No passport, no jet lag, just vibes. I didn't want to leave. I considered ordering more just to stay longer like, "Don't rush me, I'm having a moment." If you've been out here struggling like I have, eating mediocre Chinese food and pretending it's okay... stop. Go here. Fix your life. 10/10. Came for food, left emotionally fulfilled.

Throwback to when dine-in Chinese food was king!…read more There's something special about walking into a place that reminds you of childhood, and this spot absolutely delivers. The service is consistently exceptional, but what keeps bringing me back are the generous family portions, quality food, and incredible value. For a date night, we ordered: Family Orange Chicken Family Beef & Broccoli Fried Rice Steamed Rice 1 Egg Roll 2 Fried Shrimp Hot Tea 2 Sprites Total: $33. With the cost of everything going up these days, finding a place where you can enjoy a great meal, leave satisfied, and not feel like you just emptied your wallet is becoming increasingly rare. And the portions? Huge. We actually had enough left over for lunch the next day, which makes that $33 feel like an even better deal. For me, this is what good neighborhood Chinese food should be: great service, generous portions, quality food, reasonable prices, and that nostalgic feeling that takes you right back to being a kid. Absolutely love this place. We'll definitely be back!

I was craving Chinese food that wasn't fast food style and finally decided to try Golden Phoenix…read moreafter driving by this plaza plenty of times before. I ordered online for pickup, which was easy enough. There was a small service fee, but nothing crazy. The Mongolian Beef lunch special is available every day from 11-3 and the value is kind of nuts. The portion was massive, easily enough to feed two people. The container was basically 3/4 beef stir-fry and 1/4 rice, plus soup. The beef was tender, seasoned well and had some wok hei. With that said, I had a misc carry out order, but the Mongolian beef didn't fully survive the drive. I was starving, so I became a parking lot goblin for a few bites. I also tried the orange chicken because I originally wanted the phoenix chicken after seeing it mentioned a lot in reviews, but they didn't have it. The orange chicken was... orange chicken heh. Fried well, seasoned well and tender. It leaned more sweet and salty than aggressively citrusy. The salt and pepper pork chops were great. Fried to perfection, lots of flavor, seasoned well and tender enough. Just a heads-up, there are bones. I got it medium spicy, but there really wasn't much heat at all, so maybe go above medium if you want actual heat? One of favorite dishes, done well. The green bean chicken was good. Green beans a bit overcooked and the chicken was tender. Wok hei most present in this dish. Simple. Service was no-frills but polite, which was totally fine for pickup. Oh, the entrees also comes with plain rice, but I've never been too fond of rice at Chinese food restaurants and this one didn't change my mind. The place itself is small and tucked away in a busy plaza, with a few booths and dining tables. There were a couple families dining in when I went, so it has that quiet local spot feel. Overall, Golden Phoenix satiated my cravings. Generous portions and quality that's above average. Nothing fancy. Food survived the car drive back, fried stuff held it's structure. I'd come back again.
