Very disappointed in this restaurant. The two chicken dishes we got were about 50% celery and the sauce was too sweet and lacked spicy hot even though we did not request mild and they were marked hot on the menu. The server was very pleasant and attentive but we would not go back because the food was not to our liking. I was in the mood for something different than pizza and since vegetarian, seafood is out of the question. I came here with my sister and our kids since she doesn't live too far away and frequents here often. We arrived around 9pm noting that they close at 10pm, no one was in the restaurant and maybe it's more of a to-go kind of chinese place. We sat down and were waited on by an older gentleman. He was not very nice and rude. He wasn't happy that i asked for no meat in the singapore noodles....just said NO we can't do that. i was like...hmm ok weird. I hope they have someone else waiting on tables, just because of him it made my experience not good. We ordered the sichuan tofu, green beans and the veg mai fun. tofu: nothing sichuan about it, zero spice and no chili in it at all...was all corn starch MAYBE with soy, bleh green beans: good but not even garlic with it, decent portion though veg mai fun: NO flavor at all, like seriously zero flavor....we all added soy sauce and it didn't help too much. I prefer to dine in than doing take out/ delivery because the taste and texture changes after sitting in the to-go box for 15 mins, 30 mins and etc, especially fried appetizers. This applies to food in general. At this restaurant, the General Tao's chicken, orange chicken and sesame chicken taste differently. I've been to places where all three of the chicken dishes taste the same. If you like spicy food, go with their general tao's chicken. If you prefer something lighter, I enjoy the Szechuan tofu (ma po tofu), the tofu is stir-fried. Must try? Their home made duck sauce, it's dark brown in color. We've been going to this place for years and it consistently continues to go downhill. The waiter this last time continue to reach over me as I'm eating to take someone's plates or serve someone else. The taste of the food isn't what it used to be either. I'm not from the area, but pass through semi-frequently. Needing something to eat, I looked for something and this was the first place I came upon. The parking lot was filled, so I went in with the assumption that it was good Chinese food. My assumption was correct. Because of how busy was, the staff was very swamped. Since I was by myself, I sat at the bar. The bartender was working by himself, but also had to deal with walk-ins, take-outs, and call ins. I saw how busy he was, so I didn't care all that much when he didn't ask me if I wanted a drink, but the least he could've done was put a water up. The food was very good. It wasn't gourmet or homemade, but it was good Chinese. The portions were good and the prices are reasonable. The best part of this place: the men's room. Two side-by-side, undivided toilets, and a urinal directly in font of them. Throw in a sink, a trash can, and some cleaning supplies, and it was an absolute party. Gave this place a try after a night of heavy drinking and i was very impressed. Not sure why i hadn tried them before - for once i was 100% sure this was chicken - great quality, neatly stored and very quickly delivered. even the wonton soup had 2 really good pieces of pork more than i have ever seen. Moved to the island nearly 2 years ago ching tao used to have the best Chinese food. Its still good but since the pandemic things have changed. They cut their portion sizes down (honestly it was too big to begin with i could never finish it) so im not complaining about that. The real issue is their chicken fingers used to be long real chicken fingers. Now theyre just like chicken bites its a disappointment i used to love their chicken fingers. Ordered take out as a treat for the family tonight. The woman who took our order on the phone was very nice and polite. The delivery driver prompt and professional. However when we opened our delivery we discovered it was totally wrong. We called the restaurant back to tell them about the mix up. Both my wife and I were in shock by how rude the young lady who answered the phone was. Realizing we were not going to get what we ordered we figured we would settle for what we got. Well, what we got was disgusting! Crab rangoons that smelt and tasted like rotten fish. Hands down the best American Chinese restaurant I've ever been to. I grew up in Newport and every time I come home I have my Mom put in a order as I'm coming over the bridge. The Combination with pork fried rice, golden finger, boneless spare ribs and beef on a stick is amazing. I also recommend General tso's chicken, chicken chow mein, and egg rolls. My grandma swore by the crab rangoons also. The boneless spareribs have never once been fatty. If you're in town, check this place out! If you're local I'd put them in your delivery rotation. Went here for lunch, because it's affordable. The menu had a good variety as well for the lunch special price. I had chow mein. My friend had sweet and sour chick. Neither of us were able to finish food because there was so much. This is affordable, but I don't think I'd be going out in a date here. Ching Tao is definitely as good as it gets as far as Chinese food in the Newport area. There are definitely "American Chinese" style dishes in their menu, but there are some genuine Cantonese style dishes too. I highly recommend their Chow Fun or Cantonese Pan Fried noodles. Don't go for the "Chow Mein" or "General Tso's Chicken" because that is what you can find at Panda Express or other places. The prices are about consistent with the area restaurants. The decor is adequate and there is a bar too for those seeking alcoholic beverages as well. This is not a NYC or CA Chinatown restaurant, but not bad for the area. If you desire to have the "American Chinese" dishes, then you're probably better off going to Bamboo near the Stop & Shop (off Adm Kalfbus Dr). read more

I will never sit or have a take out from this place ever! While dining with my fiance on 10/1/18 the server came over after we paid and demanded a higher percentage on tipping on a $20 total . We gave him 10 total as a tip. He came back stating that ....when you sit its automatic that you have to pay 15%. It doesn't say on the receipt or when you walk in for these demands! I said how much do you want? He said im not greedy you just tip more! So he asked for 3 more bucks! He received $13 I have not experienced such horrible service from a waiter at a Chinese spot in my life. I will never go back there ever again! What a rude waiter to have high demands like that. Ordered my food at 3:32 PM on a Saturday via phone. I found their menu on their website http://www.chingtao.iworksweb.com/index.html. The women who answered the phone spoke English very well and was friendly. My order: Mango Sensation (beef) Extra Extra Spicy: $8.50. Chicken w/Garlic Sauce (large) Extra Extra Spicy: $6.95. Kung Po Chicken (small): $3.55. I was told my order would arrive in 40-45 minutes. I received it in 42 minutes. I was taken aback when the driver said he never heard of Mango Sensation before. Why wouldn't he know the menu? This question was answered when I looked at the attached menu. It looks like the menu online does not match their printed menu. Mango Sensation is not on the menu, nor is there any dish with mango. It seems that their prices are also totally different. Mango Sensation: $12.25. Chicken w/Garlic Sauce: $8.75. Kung Po Chicken: $4.95. Despite this outrage, which will be handled in person tomorrow, my family and I opened the bag. Strangely the rice was upside down but nothing had spilled. My Mango Sensation was not spicy. At all. Not a hint of spicy. Despite this, it was fairly tasty. The veggies were crunchy and abundant. The slices of beef were medium sized. The few slices of mango were pretty large as well. It did not taste very salty, which is a nice change from the other Chinese restaurants in this area. My wife's Chicken w/Garlic Sauce was also devoid of anything spicy. It was also not very garlic-y. As with my dish, it didn't seem very salty which pleased my wife. The Kung Po Chicken was just like any other Kung Po Chicken, except I told the women on the phone to not make this dish spicy since it was for my 4 year old daughter and it came slightly spicy, actually spicier than the "extra extra spicy" dishes. Once we mixed it in with some rice she was able to eat it. Pros: Friendly phone service, on time delivery, dishes ordered weren't saturated in sodium. Cons: Prices are wrong online, food is somewhat bland, spicy food was not spicy, daughters food was spicy. Overall I am disappointed. It took us a little while to find this place. We drove up and down the road trying to find something to eat, and I finally found Ching Tao. However, I think we passed it 3 times before actually reaching our destination. The service was good, as well as the food. It was a little nerve-wracking that we were the only ones in there, but I guess that doesn't tell too much about the quality of food. The chicken was super fresh, and my fiancee's chow fun was pretty good. We are pretty spoiled when it comes to noodles and green tea on the table before dinner. We frequent Hunan Dynasty on Long Island, and I think we are trying to compare it a little too much to this place. Either way, it satisfied our Chinese food craving when we were pretty sure there was not going to be any good Chinese restaurants in RI. We were wrong!
