Ordered at the front with the cashier, and she gave me a number to bring back to my table. The food arrived super quick. Tried the chingon burrito, which was pretty good. Only thing that could be better would be if the meat had crispy bits. They gave complimentary seasoned tortilla chips and salsa but the burrito already comes with chips. There's also a salsa bar with salsas, radishes, cilantro, onions, pinto beans, etc. There were a lot of different fruity drinks that looked good. My partner thought the Horchata was decent. Staff were very nice and checked in on us. Interior was bright and lively. Plenty of seating inside and outside. Outdoor tables were covered with funny stickers. I had corn and the quesabirra (called something else on the menu). Corn was okay but quesabirra tacos were great. My boys loved their chorizo rice bowls (both with extra cheese). Complimentary chips and salsa were tasty too. There's also an extensive topping bar with onions, radish, cilantro, various salsas, and more. When you first come in there's bright lights, music and fun wall graphics. It has a cool vibe. You ordered at the counter and they bring out your food. The staff member was friendly and I asked what their signature dish was which was the Taquitos chignons. We also got the chicken fajitas to share. I had trouble reading the menu because it was up high and bright. I should have read the menu online. The food didn't take long to come out. The chignons were tasty-Cheesy, tender and juicy. I wish they came with rice to use up the consome and for the price. The fajitas were pretty standard but filling and easy to share. The salsa bar had a wide selection. My wife, son, and I went to Chingon Taqueria when we saw Agostino's Pizza (my son's favorite in Wilmington, NC) was not open that day. None of us had ever been to Chingon before and WHAT a great experience we all had. By the time we were done, my son was disappointed that in two weeks, he'd no longer be stationed in the area just for the food we had! He had the Cali Burrito ($13.49). It was a monster-sized burrito that came with carne asada, queso, Mexican rice, pintos, French fries, pico de gallo, and guacamole. He thought it was very good. The fries were thick enough that he thought they were small potatoes. My wife got the Fiesta Nachos ($12.99): on a bed of the house-made tortilla chips (dusted with chili and cumin perhaps?), layered with pulled chicken, melted cheese, lettuce, onion, sour cream, tomatoes and cilantro. The chicken was incredibly tender and definitely marinated and perfectly cooked. NOT out of a can, not heated up and ripped up. This protein was made with love. The whole dish was massive. Definitely a "let's order nachos for all four of us as a side." I got the Taquitos Chingones ($17.49). I've eaten a lot of food in my life. I've eaten a ton of Mexican food in my life. Taco Bell to authentic made on the curb tacos on the South Side of Chicago. This was THE BEST TACOS I've ever had. Four fried tortillas, with succulent short rib barbacoa tacos with oaxacan cheese, onions, and cilantro. They also had a cup of consommé. I don't know if they charged me the menu price for that addition ($3.15), but if they did it was well worth it! I dressed it up a little from their very wide selection at the salsa bar: radishes and a little pico. With or without the extras these tacos were fantastic. The protein was perfectly prepared. The fried tortillas reminded me of the way I first had tacos 50 years ago. It was the kind of meal you want to share (I did) out of love for the experience but also didn't want to share out of love of the experience! The four tacos were a fine serving, but I might have downed six. Maybe eight. They were THAT good. Midway through the meal, our son got up and ordered a plate of nachos with a heaping bowl of quacamole. The home-made chips are dusted in spices that makes it just that much better. Warm and crisp, a great addition. The quac was pretty standard: cool and fresh. I don't know the price on this item. We walked in not having a clue what sort of place this would be, and the staff jumped at the chance to walk us through the entire menu. The food came quickly. The salsa bar was terrific. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. The server was pleasant. I ordered the chicken Tinga tacos. The corn tortillas were home made and very good. Flavor and texture were amazing. The chips flavor was good also and I believe were made homemade also, but fried too crispy. They were one step away from burnt. Salsa was good, guacamole was mediocre and a little on the sour/tangy side. Tinga meat was ok but the flavors were confusing. The Tinga tasted like curry. Last time I checked curry wasn't a seasoning that should be added to Tinga. The meat was bland. And the Tacos were naked with no toppings. There was a topping bar, but I'm not sure how I felt about it. Some of the selections didn't look fresh, the lettuce looked brownish and drying the cilantro looked as if it was drying out also. It's a good concept if the selections were fresh. Or add some things that hold up better while sitting out like a corn salsa or black bean salsa. read more

It's good but some of the items are lacking on flavor. My son didn't like his rice and cheese quesadilla. I think Papi's Chicken, their sister restaurant is much better and easier on the wallet. Even the street corn is over a dollar more at this location, which is the exact same street corn they sell at Papi's for less. I love the toppings bar and all of the drink selections, but my bill for a kids meal, 3 tacos and 2 drinks was about 27 dollars, so I don't think I'll be back. It's just too expensive! read more
