    Chilaquiles rojos with fried egg
    Jessica N.

I know they said this place is closed, but I read on their socials that the physical location is closing, not the business itself. I'm not sure if there will be another page for this business when more information is out. But I wanted to leave a review either way, in case people still come looking for this page. I went on their last day at the physical location. There was definitely a feeling of community and good vibes. It wasn't so packed but there were plenty of conversations being had in this small space. It seems like they've cultivated a lot of trust and adoration with their customers. It was my first time here so I went with their chilaquiles rojos and a cafe de olla latte (hot). It didn't take long to come out. At first I thought the portion size of chilaquiles was on the smaller size for the price, but once I tasted them, I didn't mind it. They were so good! Flavorful, covered in red sauce, I love that they topped it with cilantro and onions, it gave it a burst of freshness. The egg was cooked perfectly (they gave me the option of scrambled or fried egg). It wasn't spicy at all (I kinda wish that it was). The latte was amazing as well. You really taste the piloncillo, but it's not overly sweet. I would go just for that drink alone. Everything about my visit was great. I would suggest following them on their socials to get updates about their next business ventures and hopefully news about where to find them next.

what we ordered: * west cochina burrito (the best thing on the menu) * verde chilaquiles (crunchy big chips w chicken) * avocado toast (... no ... i can make better) * caramelo (super sweet aroma but milky watery) * spanglish (not enough caffeine, sweet and watery) all in all, i don't think i'd come back but had a nice experience for my first time !

The name rings true ~ a cafe for chismosas. The vibe is fun - lots of greenery and vibrant colors worthy for a photo op. It's the kind of place you'd meet up with a girlfriend for a quick and casual meal. Fittingly, I found myself here with my sister. We shared the following: -chorizo burrito ($11): chorizo, eggs, papas, cheese -red chilaquiles ($13): fresh tortilla chips, eggs, frijoles, salsa, cotija, onion, crema The chorizo burrito was very tasty especially with the salsa they give you (red, green - both are excellent). While I don't love potatoes of any kind in my breakfast burritos, I somehow didn't mind them here. They were seasoned and didn't take up a ton of real estate the in the burrito. The chilaquiles were equally as good. They scramble the eggs on their chilaquiles which is a fresh take on the usual over easy situation. It made for egg distribution that much easier. Food is excellent, but drinks are even better. Did I mention there's no upcharge for oat milk? The drinks alone are worth a visit.

THEY ARE CLOSED ON MONDAYS! I love this place!! I have came here a few times with my friend to grab coffee and a bite to eat and I just love everything about this place! From the interior design and decorations, to the theme of the cafe, to the drinks and items on the menu. My absolute favorite from here is the cafe de olla. Their food is good too, but I return to this spot for the delicious drinks. Every time I have come here, the staff are always so helpful with my questions. I like to ask questions about drinks and take recommendations, and they are always accommodating and offer advice on what to order.

Had an incredible first coffee date, and the star of the show was the warm Cuban Latte. It was everything I hoped for--smooth, balanced, and just the right touch of cortadito without being too sweet. That first sip? Pure magic. It brought a sense of peace so profound, I momentarily forgot I was even on a date! Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for a coffee experience that goes beyond the cup.

Cute place. There is two-hour parking right next to the cafe, so that was extra convenient. Been here twice, but having their Horchata latte this time was great! Definitely will come back and order it again. My friend liked their Cafe de Olla too.

Love this little brunch spot in old town (or downtown?) Covina. The food here is on point and have they have a really great selection of specialty coffees. Highly recommend the Cafe de Olla or the Taro-Chata lattes. I've been here a few times my favorite thing I've ever ordered was the West Cochina Burrito (5/5!). You also cannot go wrong with any of the waffles. This spot is also dog friendly! We brought our lil corgi and sat on the patio and the server was super kind and brought out a bowl of water for him. That's always a plus in my book. If you're looking for a brunch spot, or even just a spot for coffee, Chismosa Cafe is it!

Great food great price super cute location! Came in for a nice breakfast. I thought the name was super cute and trendy! Reservation- they have waitlists. I showed up on a Thursday and it wasn't too busy. I was sat within a few minutes. Coffee- HORCHATA COLD BREW IS BOMB!!! Food- the morning Sammie is tasty. I've tried their other food and I'll have to say the chilaquiles and burritos are better. Price- great price for the food quality!

Phenomenal Food Phenomenal Coffee Amazing service, beautiful decor, and atmosphere. Fleetwood Mac was playing while I scarfed down my delicious chismosa pork belly chilaquiles and took sips of my hot drip coffee. The pork belly was perfect seasoned, well cooked, tender inside and crispy outside, was perfect shreddable and easy to cut through. And a very nice size serving to match. The red sauce chilaquiles are so flavorful, I want to say garlicky and roasted chilies, just perfect and not spicy. Wasn't overwhelmed with cilantro (Thank God) with sour cream and guacamole. Just perfect. Love the soft scrambled eggs too, custard like and soft and fluffy!! Love Chismosa Cafe!!!!

Super cute cafe with friendly staff. Judging by the name, you are encouraged to come gossip while you sip on your cafecito and enjoy breakfast. My meal started out right with an iced cafe de olla latte. The taro-chata and vanilla vice lattes sounds delectable and are next on my list! Chismosa's chilaquiles are served either roja and verde and come with beans, salsa, cotija cheese, onion and crema in a generous portion and both tasted real sweet to my tastebuds. I couldn't quite pin down what ingredient made it taste like candy, but this isn't a complaint. The West Cochina burrito with pork belly, bacon, eggs, potatoes and salda verde is sizeable, and was not as sweet as the chilaquiles. Public street parking, lot parking, or garage parking real close to this cafe. You check in to the restaurant with an iPad out front, and the wait was shorter than estimated.

I love breakfast and have been wanting to check out this spot since they moved to downtown Covina. Took my wife, kids and mother and law during the week it's nice to avoid the weekend rush. We were greeted as we walked in and sat right away (perk of being an early bird). They have a sign in right by the door for busy times (my guess). High chairs for the kiddos made it easy to sit us all on one round table without feeling too crowded. Felt nice and warm inside with the recent cool weather it felt great to sit inside and eat a hot meal. The only reason I don't give a 5 star are a few things: - My mother in law asked for queso fresco but they didn't have any on hand - Wife and I wanted an over easy eggs on the chilaquiles but they couldn't do it. - cafe de olla wasn't as good as I'd hope for. My plate was delicious! Barbacoa y huevos. Every had a bite, my wife even switched plates with me. Tres leches waffle was good, very sweet I'm surprised my kids didn't want it but wanted to eat the migas burrito (as long as they eat). I'd definitely go back and try something else on the menu. Go early and avoid the busy times.

Fam and I dropped into Chismosa Cafe today and had a super solid breakfast. I'll share about what we liked and what could have pushed it to a 5 for us. First, seating was super easy with the Yelp tablet outside for easy check-ins. We were seated within minutes of checking in and were greeted by a friendly host. The location and atmosphere are great. Nothing super fancy but my daughter said 'aesthetic' and I agree. It felt comfortable and pleasant. The noise level was appropriate and enjoyable for a breakfast conversation. I had the West Cochino burrito and split it with my wife, Gwen. It was large enough for us both to be content with half each and a drink. Two issues I had with the burrito - first, it came right out as ready as all the food was brought one at a time - and yet it was lukewarm. Huge no for me. Hot food for a $16 burrito is an absolute must and almost made me want to give a 3 rating. But, the burrito was actually quite good. Also, part of the tortilla was uncooked. One side was toasted nicely and the back and sides were still see through and not cooked. My wife really liked the taste of the burrito and because of that I'm letting the temperature slide. But, seriously, when it comes straight from the kitchen, it needs to be hot. I also had the Cafe De Olla Latte with half the syrup as I don't like it super sweet. It was made well and had an appropriate amount of foam. I really enjoyed it and would totally get it again. My son had the Nutella waffle, eggs and bacon and he said it was good. Not too sweet - just about right he said. Bacon was thick and cooked just right. My daughters had the avocado toast and another of their burrito options. The avocado toast was good - she had it put on toast as they normally do it as a tostada. It was a bit too much Kale on top for her liking but she did enjoy it nonetheless. The burrito was a bit spicy for my other daughter but she liked it overall and took half home. Overall, it's a 3.75 to 4 for me. Service was great, atmosphere great for breakfast, and food was quite good (minus the temp of my burrito). Small details get it higher - for instance, my burrito was served on a large plate - felt odd like it was missing something. Maybe add a handful of chips and a side of salsa. Just felt unfinished for that price. Cafe Cultura and BB's cafe's burritos still beat out the one I had here but it would be close if hot and served better. We will be back as we enjoyed it and would love to try more items! I share these details in hopes the management consider the small details which help the customer experience and overall impression of their cafe.

Came here to meet up with a friend and sister. It was our first time. Food was good and good portion. The service is good, attentive and friendly. Now the ambiance could be more welcoming. I think they need some more love inside. There is a lot of space that could be used differently and the deco could be more chismosa type like art, some magazine chisme articles etc. is in a freer location they should do some more about it.

I am confused as to the hours. On Apple Maps it says it's open, but are the yelp hours the most accurate? I left a message as well to attempt to ask, but didn't hear back.

We are open Fri-sun- 10a-2p. We are officially closing down June 22nd…

Do you make reservations for weekends? I need a reservation for 3, tomorrow, 5/11/24 at 12:30p. Thank you.

We are fast causal now. No res required its fist come first serve. Order at register.

    Is this place dog friendly?

    Yes it is

Do you have reservations or private events?

I arrived without a reservation. There was a clipboard or tablet to add your name to the waiting list. I am sure they can accommodate a private party, especially since they are not open every day, there's opportunity to reserve for your group.

I genuinely want to like this café because it's a local small business, and I prefer supporting local businesses whenever I can. Unfortunately, today's experience was disappointing. :/ I ordered a double matcha latte with vanilla, and it cost $10 for what looked like a 13-16 oz cup filled to the brim with ice. It felt like there was very little actual drink, especially for the price. I expected much better value. Another thing I don't understand is why they call out the drink name instead of the customer's name when orders are ready. On a previous visit, someone else grabbed my drink because we had ordered the same thing. Calling customers by name would make much more sense and would help avoid this issue. What really frustrated me today was that they don't put lids on iced drinks before handing them to customers. The lids are difficult to snap on, and when I tried putting mine on myself, I spilled about a quarter of my drink. Two employees saw it happen and didn't offer to help, apologize, or replace the spilled drink. That lack of customer service was disappointing. I really wanted to enjoy this place because I like supporting local businesses, but between the expensive drinks, the excessive amount of ice, the confusing pickup system, and the lack of customer service today, I'm not sure I'll be back. I hope they make a few small changes because I think the overall customer experience could be much better.
