I know they said this place is closed, but I read on their socials that the physical location is closing, not the business itself. I'm not sure if there will be another page for this business when more information is out. But I wanted to leave a review either way, in case people still come looking for this page. I went on their last day at the physical location. There was definitely a feeling of community and good vibes. It wasn't so packed but there were plenty of conversations being had in this small space. It seems like they've cultivated a lot of trust and adoration with their customers. It was my first time here so I went with their chilaquiles rojos and a cafe de olla latte (hot). It didn't take long to come out. At first I thought the portion size of chilaquiles was on the smaller size for the price, but once I tasted them, I didn't mind it. They were so good! Flavorful, covered in red sauce, I love that they topped it with cilantro and onions, it gave it a burst of freshness. The egg was cooked perfectly (they gave me the option of scrambled or fried egg). It wasn't spicy at all (I kinda wish that it was). The latte was amazing as well. You really taste the piloncillo, but it's not overly sweet. I would go just for that drink alone. Everything about my visit was great. This was such a cute place to have brunch. My date and I had just grabbed some coffee from down the street and we're looking for a place to enjoy our drinks and have brunch. We went here as it was down the street from the coffee shop and it also had outdoor seating. To order, you must go inside and one of the servers will take your order. You can then find your seat and they will bring the food out to you. I ordered a cinnamon waffle, which had blueberries and whipped cream on top. And my date had ordered a seasonal cinnamon French toast. We both tried each other's food and we enjoyed it very much. As you can tell, we really enjoy cinnamon flavor. The cinnamon and the sweetness did get a little overwhelming. I love the ambience and feel of this restaurant. It was a little difficult finding the restroom, as it was all the way in the back. And as I was walking towards the restroom, I got lost because it seems like I was watching into the kitchen. So just to know that the restroom is all the way in the back. The name rings true ~ a cafe for chismosas. The vibe is fun - lots of greenery and vibrant colors worthy for a photo op. It's the kind of place you'd meet up with a girlfriend for a quick and casual meal. Fittingly, I found myself here with my sister. We shared the following: -chorizo burrito ($11): chorizo, eggs, papas, cheese -red chilaquiles ($13): fresh tortilla chips, eggs, frijoles, salsa, cotija, onion, crema The chorizo burrito was very tasty especially with the salsa they give you (red, green - both are excellent). While I don't love potatoes of any kind in my breakfast burritos, I somehow didn't mind them here. They were seasoned and didn't take up a ton of real estate the in the burrito. The chilaquiles were equally as good. They scramble the eggs on their chilaquiles which is a fresh take on the usual over easy situation. It made for egg distribution that much easier. My meal started out right with an iced cafe de olla latte. The taro-chata and vanilla vice lattes sounds delectable and are next on my list! Chismosa's chilaquiles are served either roja and verde and come with beans, salsa, cotija cheese, onion and crema in a generous portion and both tasted real sweet to my tastebuds. I couldn't quite pin down what ingredient made it taste like candy, but this isn't a complaint. High chairs for the kiddos made it easy to sit us all on one round table without feeling too crowded. Felt nice and warm inside with the recent cool weather it felt great to sit inside and eat a hot meal. The only reason I don't give a 5 star are a few things: - My mother in law asked for queso fresco but they didn't have any on hand - Wife and I wanted an over easy eggs on the chilaquiles but they couldn't do it. - cafe de olla wasn't as good as I'd hope for. My plate was delicious! Barbacoa y huevos. Every had a bite, my wife even switched plates with me. Tres leches waffle was good, very sweet I'm surprised my kids didn't want it but wanted to eat the migas burrito (as long as they eat). I'd definitely go back and try something else on the menu. Fam and I dropped into Chismosa Cafe today and had a super solid breakfast. I'll share about what we liked and what could have pushed it to a 5 for us. First, seating was super easy with the Yelp tablet outside for easy check-ins. We were seated within minutes of checking in and were greeted by a friendly host. The location and atmosphere are great. Nothing super fancy but my daughter said 'aesthetic' and I agree. It felt comfortable and pleasant. The noise level was appropriate and enjoyable for a breakfast conversation. I had the West Cochino burrito and split it with my wife, Gwen. It was large enough for us both to be content with half each and a drink. Two issues I had with the burrito - first, it came right out as ready as all the food was brought one at a time - and yet it was lukewarm. Huge no for me. Hot food for a $16 burrito is an absolute must and almost made me want to give a 3 rating. But, the burrito was actually quite good. Also, part of the tortilla was uncooked. One side was toasted nicely and the back and sides were still see through and not cooked. My wife really liked the taste of the burrito and because of that I'm letting the temperature slide. But, seriously, when it comes straight from the kitchen, it needs to be hot. I also had the Cafe De Olla Latte with half the syrup as I don't like it super sweet. It was made well and had an appropriate amount of foam. I really enjoyed it and would totally get it again. My son had the Nutella waffle, eggs and bacon and he said it was good. Not too sweet - just about right he said. Bacon was thick and cooked just right. My daughters had the avocado toast and another of their burrito options. The avocado toast was good - she had it put on toast as they normally do it as a tostada. It was a bit too much Kale on top for her liking but she did enjoy it nonetheless. The burrito was a bit spicy for my other daughter but she liked it overall and took half home. Overall, it's a 3.75 to 4 for me. Service was great, atmosphere great for breakfast, and food was quite good (minus the temp of my burrito). Small details get it higher - for instance, my burrito was served on a large plate - felt odd like it was missing something. Maybe add a handful of chips and a side of salsa. Just felt unfinished for that price. Cafe Cultura and BB's cafe's burritos still beat out the one I had here but it would be close if hot and served better. We will be back as we enjoyed it and would love to try more items! Chismosa Cafe is located in downtown Covina, on a side street off of Citrus avenue. There is plenty of parking including street and a parking structure nearby. I really wanted to love this restaurant, but there were a couple of things that made my experience not so pleasant. 1- Inaccuracy of Wait Times: our wait time was originally quoted for 30 minutes- which is absolutely no problem. We walked around DT Covina, grabbed coffee, and thought we'd be seated by the time we got back. Our wait time exceeded over an hour- and more than double time. Note, the restaurant has a disclaimer for 90 minute "visits" but there should be better time management for guests. 2- Unavailability of Items: Granted by the time we sat, it was past 1pm - there were numerous items that were no longer available to order. That was a little annoying after waiting over an hour for a seat. 3- Cleanliness/Preparedness: I don't know how to explain this but the restaurant felt incomplete and felt like it was very much a work in progress. I wish more effort had gone into the whole experience vs. being a "Instagram" worthy post with the decor. The food was good- despite not having some of the items, there were alternatives found for our party that lived up to the expectations. This cafe is so cute. There is outdoor seating available. The color scheme is light and bright pastels. We came for breakfast and were seated promptly. For my main, I order the verde chilaquiles. The texture on the chilaquiles was awesome. The chips were light and crisp. They held up to the sauce and toppings. The chips were all dressed in a tangy, savory chili verde sauce. It came topped with pinto beans, scrambled eggs, cilantro, white onion and crema. I think this could've been improved with some chicken. Overall still pretty tasty. My husband enjoyed the Apple French toast. He said it had a nice bite. The cooked apples were soft yet toothsome. The French toast was accompanied by two slices of candied bacon. The sweet and savory pairing was a winner. For drinks we tried the iced taro-chata latte. The espresso was strong! The latte was very creamy. We also tried the raspberry Jamaica lemonade. Some of the servers told me that they use to serve dinner but there wasn't enough foot traffic . Ambiance is super laid back the workers there are super friendly as well and Loretta helpful considering this was my first time there ! The decor is nice as well! Finally tried this place to see if it lives up to the hype... with my mom and husband. I highly recommend joining the waitlist on Yelp prior to arriving. Although we were lucky with our timing today and only waited about 15 min for our table. We each ordered a different coffee beverage; I ordered the Taro Horchata Latte, my mom ordered the Chai Latte and my husband ordered the Cafe de Olla Cold Brew. All were fantastic!!! That Taro Horchata was really sweet and creamy and hit the spot. The Taro flavor is subtle but there. I ordered the Barbacoa Chilaquiles. The presentation was beautiful but I noticed that the beef looked like basic shredded beef not at all like Barbacoa. Upon tasting it, I confirmed that it was mildly seasoned shredded beef. Despite this, it's paired exceptionally well with the saltiness of the red sauce on the Chilaquiles. Everything was super flavorful and the chips were also still a bit crisp in the sauce. The scrambled egg on top was good but I would've preferred a fried or poached egg. Overall delicious! My husband ordered the Chicken and Waffles. That was delicious!! The chicken thigh was cooked perfectly and crispy with a tangy, spicy, maple syrup and paired well with the waffle. My husband's only comment was wanting more chicken (came with a 4-5 oz chicken thigh... but it takes a lot to fill his stomach). Overall experience: Take your patience for seating and waiting for your food. Order some of their delicious drinks to sip on while browsing the menu or waiting for your order. Food is definitely fresh and very comforting (Chilaquiles are one of my comfort foods). My husband and I will be back to try more of that menu!! Finally got to try this new hip spot in downtown Covina the past weekend with my BF. They changed the menu a bit after they opened. So there are some new items. I'll keep it short and straight to the point below: PROS: -very cute vibe. Perfect for girls breakfast/brunch spot. -service was great and they are attentive. It was our first time and they were able to introduce some popular items on the menu and help us with ordering our food and drinks. -easy street parking. They also have a public parking structure. I took one bite of the burrito and the pork belly piece of meat was so dry and hard. the potatoes were bland with no seasoning and cold. The only great thing about this was the chicken. At least that was juicy. Chicken was fried perfect. The outer skin was crispy. Dip the chicken in the syrup to give it that sweet taste! Been wanting to check this place out back when they had their old location but never got around to it. Came here for brunch today with some friends around 10am and the line out front did discourage me a bit. I thought the wait was going to take forever but it took 30 mins for our party of 4. Service was amazing, all the ladies there were so kind and sweet. Between my husband & I, we got horchata cold brew, raspberry Jamaica lemonade (so refreshing) chismosa chilaquiles with added pork belly (the pork belly was really the star of the plate, so freaking good), a side of papas & a tres leches waffle. The interior is decorated really cute, I love that they don't have standard tables & chairs. Everything feels very homey & it's just a nice spot to hang out. My friend and I stopped by for brunch this past weekend. I tried to make a reservation on Yelp, but I was unable to. Parking was easy to find on Citrus as it was still early when I got there at 10:25 a.m. There's public parking across from the restaurant as well with no time restriction. We both ordered the chismosa chilaquiles. I added chicken to mine, and she added pork belly to hers. To drink, I ordered the vanilla vice with oat milk. She ordered the mocha with oat milk. Oat milk is free here. I was a bit disappointed with the portion size. The chips are nice and crunchy. The sauce is very flavorful. I felt like the chilaquiles needed to be coated in more sauce. They were not fully coated in the sauce. The sauce was smoky. I think they use chile guajillo. The chicken was good. There was a good amount of chicken on the dish. My friend enjoyed her dish, but there were large pieces of pork belly that she left behind because she didn't like the texture of those pieces. I enjoyed my dish as well. All of the ingredients are paired well together. First time having guacamole on chilaquiles; it's a good addition to the dish. I enjoyed my drink. It was sweet and creamy. My friend loved her drink. She finished hers before I finished mine. Overall, the experience was good. The waitress was attentive. I would recommend coming here in person to check in to see what the wait is like. This isn't local for me, actually it's a bit out of the way - with that in mind, if I needed a cute and casual brunch spot I'd definitely recommend this spot. We visited on a Saturday and there's free parking on the street or the neighboring structure. They utilize Yelp waitlist so you can wait in the car if you like because you do get alerts when you're table is ready. The menu has a good variety without being too overwhelming. I've been to the Chimosa Cafe at their West Covina location and had a hit and miss experience, so when I learned that they opened a new location in Covina this month, I decided to give it a try. The location is in downtown Covina, next to the Covina Civic Center. Parking is available on the street or in the public lot across the street. There is an outdoor patio with about 5 tables and a good number of tables and counter seats available. Decor is cute and modern, and you get to watch the baristas making all the drinks. When I arrived, they asked that I enter my info on the Yelp Waitlist on the device at the door, and seated me in about 5 minutes . It didn't seem to matter that there were plenty of seats available when I went, so I'd recommend that you go on Yelp and get on the waitlist from there before arriving. I wanted the Taro & Horchata latte but they were out of taro, so I opted for the Cafe de Olla latte w/ oat milk. I also picked up the Cauli Chorizo Burrito. Three months ago it was $11.50 in West Covina, today it put me back $16.50. I know prices have gone up but wow... But I do appreciate that there is no additional charge for substituting oat milk in your drinks. The menu includes dishes that can be made vegan, and a number of items look like they could be gluten free if they use corn tortillas, but nothing is marked as GF, so if you highly allergic/celiac, I wouldn't take any chances. I didn't know what to expect from a vegan burrito, but it was absolutely flavorful and delicious! I loved the crunch of the papas in the burrito and with some spiciness of Tapatio, it was so good! And the food presentation is wonderful. The Cafe de Olla latte however was not my favorite. I love drinking Cafe de Olla and can polish off 5+ mugs at Cafe de Olla in Monrovia, but this drink lacked any of the cinnamon flavor that I love, and didn't really taste like anything except sweetened oat milk. I also wish that they offered lower calorie milk alternatives like almond milk or non-fat milk, but they only have whole milk or oat milk. read more

Great spot for brunch! Chismosa cafe has indoor and outdoor seating, you place your order inside and they bring the food to your seat. It's a small place, but always bustling with people. I came here for a birthday brunch with my mom and we split two different meals. The birria sandwich was so good; the bread was flavorful, the meat was juicy, everything was great! I'd definitely recommend, although my only disclaimer is that despite the juiciness of the meat, the sandwich as a whole can seem a bit dry if you take a while to eat it (which i did). Great little cafe in downtown Covina. It's is really unique. They use Yelp sign in for table service. They just opened and are very popular. The food is really good and unique. Their items are mainly brunch type. Lots of egg dishes. I didn't try the lattes but will do next time. read more

My friend and I had breakfast last week. The best part was the cafe de olla, we asked for half of olla to lessen the level of sweetness and it was perfect. We split the avocado toast, which was okay as the smashed avocado had a lot of lime juice and greens and tomato on top. I had the churro waffle, scrambled eggs and bacon plate. The waffle had a scoop of cinnamon butter which was very good. The egg was overcooked. My friend had the chilaquiles with brisket. The meat was okay, but the chilaquiles had a ton of sauce to the point the tortillas were soggy. Our bill for our meal was over 60.00, very pricy for mediocre food. The service was friendly, but no one ever checked in on us during our meal. read more

Cute cafe in West Covina, that has the perfect name for me (a chismosa). There was a wait, but it was only about 15 mins. It's cute inside with a few tables and some bar seating. The waitress was friendly and gave some great suggestions. The barista was quick and efficient for being alone making all the drinks. The iced cafe de olla was delicious! The Apple honey cold brew was pretty tasty too. The cauli burrito was really good and different from the norm. The chorizo papa taco was good. The cochina burrito was fire with the pork belly and the green salsa only made it that much better. read more

Super chill cafe! Nice little spot. FYI the yelp Waitlist don't work. Service was great food was delicious. Coffee was great. We had the avocado toast, Pork Belly Chilaquiles, Chicken Chile Verde Chilaquiles, Tres Leches Waffles , Nutella and Fresa waffles and to drink the Cafe de Olla Latte Iced and hot Vanilla Vice Latte. Totally worth it. Definitely would return! read more

Food and especially beverages are amazing! Music was a too loud for me. I had the vanilla vice with oat milk hot and it was very delicious! My tres leches waffle was great, although it didn't really taste like the tres leches but either way it was delicious! Our server was great. It is a good spot for a small group of maybe 4 or less. It's located right next to the parking structure so it has great parking access. I visited the establishment around 11am so it was not as busy, but around lunch time it started picking up. So come early if you would like a table! read more
