I have ordered more than five cakes from here and went there for bread, dim sum, snacks and more. It never disappoints me. They offer taro filling cake and it's so smooth and fresh that I can eat a quarter of the 8 inch cake in one setting! My husband never likes cake, but he would ask for taro cake for his birthday. They use real taro for the filling and topped the cake with fresh fruits. You can also ask for your favorite color for decoration. I ordered a purple one with taro filling for my mother in law and she loved it. They also have very good tarnish cake and savory taro cake in round pans. You can eat it right away, but I usually like to pan fry it to warm it up. The pork barbecue buns are also good. I usually buy a dozen and freeze them. Seriously, what's with all the 4 star reviews? I don't normally write Yelp reviews, but I could not let this injustice stand. These are ridiculously good pastries for ridiculously inexpensive prices - if you can name a better Asian bakery, I'd like to know where it is. I graduated college and left Chicago a couple years ago, and this place was on my list of must-visits when I came back for homecoming. Amazingly, their prices don't seem to have gone up at all since I left, or really any time in the last 5+ years. Why pay $5 for a gourmet cupcake (and don't get me wrong, I like cupcakes as much as the next girl) when you can come here and get a big box of stuff for less than that? Their sponge cakes (the ones baked into the paper wrappers) are the best anywhere - I've searched high and low (LA, SF, Seattle..) and nothing else even comes close. They are consistently light, fluffy, spongy, and not too sweet. Like eating a really delicious cloud. And have I mentioned they're ridiculously cheap? I got an extra 3 of these for the road, but I would have bought out the entire stock if I could. I would sell my firstborn child to get my hands on their sponge cake recipe, it's THAT good. The red bean-filled sesame balls are also really tasty, especially when you get them hot - not overly greasy. Egg tarts are solid too. If there are any downsides to this place, it's the fact that it's cash only. Totally worth it, though. Also, if you go late in the afternoon on a weekend, they can sell out of some items. My husband only requests cakes from this bakery for his birthday. They only make 1 type - it's angel cake w/ fresh fruit (think melons, strawberries) and whipped cream filling, and whipped cream frosting. So simple, so good, and not overly sweet. I grew up frequenting these little bakery type shops as a child, and frankly, the only people who run them are people who also experienced this type of food as children as well, so I'm generally never wholly disappointed with the food. However, this Bakery was outstanding. Custard, both in bun and tart form, actually tasted like custard should, a little bit of egg flavor with a rich sweetness. Dear Chiu Quon Bakery, I'll be forever loyal to you and always bring CASH instead of a card. What drove me to this place was the fact they had bao, fried taro dumplings, and moon cakes. I was very eager to get fresh bao (that wasn't too far from me) and that was not frozen from an ethnic grocery store. This place is located right off the red line's Argyle stop and it's easy-medium to get street parking. Sometimes there are free spots or you will have to pay a very little fee for the dashboard ticket. Pros: -Coconut tarts -Warm bbq bao (although, depending on the time of day it might not always be warmed) -FRIED TARO DUMPLINGS (I love this location more because the Chinatown one doesn't have these dumplings on display. Everyone needs to try these.) -Sesame buns (crunch gooey goodness!! It's like a cross between mochi (rice cake) and a sesame bun.) -THE PRICES (you can get a whole meal under five dollars.or less depending on what kind of pants you wore visiting day ;D ) -Fast service -A ton of assorted cookies -Did you see those cakes?! Surprise, I can get them just a mile from my house. Wife cakes and a variety of other interesting Chinese baked goods. Pretty cheap with a lot of fillings. Compared to La PatisserieP, it is much cheaper like 15-20 cents and much better with more fillings, especially the BBQ pork bun which is pretty big too... Love this bakery! It is owned by Hiananese Chinese so I might be a little partial. They also have a bakery in the old part of Chinatown and both seem to be doing very well. The workers are very friendly and helpful. Everyone speaks English very well, so it is very easy to place your order or ask questions about certain items. Great food at unbeatable prices. If you come on Saturday or Sunday be prepared to stand in line for 2-10 minutes depending on the line. That's not because the workers are lazy or indifferent: it's because the food and prices are so good that there's often a long line. On the weekends people drive from hundreds of miles to buy goodies here and take them back to their friends all over the Midwest. I've spent hundreds of hours in this bakery and have never heard any of the workers treat any of the customers rudely, despite what some reviewers have said. I have heard a worker shout at someone who was trying to steal food...but that's not rude. I've heard some customers snap at the workers, who they thought were taking people out of order, but that was always when the grumpy customers insisted on standing in front of the item they wanted instead of moving with the line. The people who work here put in long, grueling days and do so with an impressive courtesy. If they don't always lavish attention and praise on you, that's probably because they've been on their feet 5 hours and because after you there are a dozen more wanting to buy something. What do I love here? The custard cakes (flan in a mini-pie crust), the pork and shrimp balls, the sesame balls, the lotus seed cakes, the nam jan fan (usually only in the mornings: it's noodles, egg, ham, veggies). What else? Ham and egg bun for breakfast. Their Western desserts are very good: not cloyingly sweet. I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE! I might be slightly biased because I've been coming here as long as a I can remember. I have since moved to the suburbs, but every time I'm back in Argyle, I go to this bakery to load up on their goods! My all time favorite (forever and ever) is the bbq pork bun. It. is. to. die. for. I have been eating it since I was kid and still tastes exactly the same after more than 15 years. I've tried most of their other products and they're all pretty much great. My sister's favorite is the ham and egg bun, and we both agree that this bakery makes amazing bread for these buns. I don't think the people who work here are rude, but that's probably because I speak their language. My mom is pretty much friends with the lady who runs the place, and she's always pretty friendly. If it's your first time coming here, don't go for the plain old sponge cake (which is actually really good), but try all the other wonderful stuff they make! Everything is pretty much made that day (business is really good here) and the prices are ridiculously low. It's only 90 cents for a pretty big bbq pork bun! Most of their other buns costs the same or less. You can pretty much get a whole box of goodies for less than $10 which is so much better than going to those classy cupcake bakeries. They make fabulous deserts, and they also make custom cakes for birthdays and special occasions (and yes with that wonderful sponge cake) that aren't cloyingly sweet like American cakes. And one last thing I like to get here is the Yu Char Kway (Chinese cruellers). I used to get them in the shop under the train stop, but that place has closed. It's best to get these cruellers when their fresh. It also doesn't hurt to put in a little extra at the gym before eating these. Yes they are greasy, but they are soooo good. Most of the time when I go there, there aren't any left, but when I see them I snatch em up pretty quick. I think they're only 85 cents for double stick? I was in the bakery yesterday around 8:00 am. I ordered 4 ham and egg buns , 1 sponge cake and 2 juice koolers Shame on me for not counting my change before leaving the counter. It was so busy I just handed the cashier a $20 I saw the registered said change due $12.50. After I left I realized she charged me $12.50 for a roughly $7.00 bill!!! No complaints on the food but buyer beware... check the bill, count your change and don't be intimidated by the crowd pushing their way to the cashier! read more

I don't live very far from this bakery so it's pretty convenient for me to stop in for some chinese baked goods or some on the go dim sum (which you might have to ask about since not everything is out for display). Everything here is inexpensive. I can leave with a box of buns and sweets for probably around 10 bucks. I love getting an order of the shrimp roll with soy sauce (cheung fun), soybean milk, and fresh soft tofu with syrup. The barbecue buns are a hit with my friends, the taro dumplings are really tasty, the sweet bread is delicious (like hawaiian bread), and the sticky rice filled with chicken and wrapped with leaves are so filling. I think most of the items don't have english signs, so just point at whatever you think looks good. Everything is worth a try, especially at the price you can get it for. Since moving to Uptown/little Vietnam I have discovered the wonder that is Asain stuffed buns! I soon 'bakery hopped' to fuel my obsession. La P was first then came Chiu Quon. I usually get the BBQ pork buns and half a dozen custard buns. The pork is quite good. Has a good flavor, no too sweet and the buns are always soft. Now the CUSTARD. I've had both La P and these and I must say these take the cake er bun. The buns are smaller and more flaky and smaller than the normal pork buns but they are different foods so why not different buns? The custard is perfection-sweet and delicious. They also heat up nicely a few days later. Service is quick and prices are cheaper than other bakeries. I got 2 pork and 6 custard for 4.90. Good deal in my book. Plus there is seating, never sat and stayed a while though. I like to get my buns and run. I will be back oh maybe tomorrow. Also, the 'hot bunz' article on the wall made me giggle. read more
