    Char Siu Sandwich - 10/10
    Dorothy X.

Stopped by this stall at Gangnam Market on a recent trip. I ordered a sandwich from a self-ordering kiosk--a charsiu, hashbrown, egg, and cheese sandwich on a pineapple bun. It was made fresh and piping hot! I waited until it was just cool enough to handle and wanted to get a bite before I left. It was delicious--flavorful, comforting, and unique, thanks to the pineapple bun! Not actually pineapple-flavored for those who may not know, but a sweeter bun. Wow, what an amazing sandwich. The only thing I wish I could've added is some drops of hot sauce!

I came two Saturdays in a row. The breakfast sandwich with hashbrown is my favorite. It has sausage and an egg inside. The slightly sweet pineapple bun goes perfect with the breakfast sandwich. I tried the egg sandwich with a hashbrown but it was just okay. The plaintain chips are also really good and can be added as a side for any sandwich. They have pastries and cookies for purchase as well.

Ordered the crab soup dumplings. It's 4 dumplings for around $6. There was no soup inside and the crab meat tasted a bit old. Overall, this was pretty horrible. I also am unsure why it took 25 minutes to serve these.

Great customer service here. Came in the do some shopping within the Asian shopping center. We opted to grab a cocktail and some late lunch. My husband ordered me the chicken Sando on the pineapple bun. I did not enjoy the bun. They were so nice and changed out the bread for my Sando, to the Japanese milk bread. I enjoyed my chicken Sando and throughly was impressed with my plantain chips. Check this out if you want some yummy grub.

Ordered 2 spamwhiches and 1 cha sui sandwhich for my kids. Service was very slow at ~20 min from when we ordered on the kiosk. They mixed up a few items from mine and my friend's orders - so we had to account for missing items even after waiting soo long. This added to the frustration of some very hungry kids. The 2 spamwhiches were made differently which confused my kids. My cha sui was okay but the bun was a bit much. I kinda wish it came with the toast instead. It's something I would get again. Each sandwhich came with a drink from the cooler that the counter person didn't tell us about. I had to deduce based on other orders. I'm not sure I would be back again as there are other options we can try in the food court

Service is friendly. Unfortunately I came to try the bbq pork plate but they were out. I ended up getting the fried pork sandwich with plantain chips and a currant juice box. The pork was good but kind of hard to eat as a sandwich and I didn't have a fork and knife. It's a big size on a Hawaiian role with pickles and sauce. The chips were delicious! We had a very good ube turtle pastry for dessert! There is a decent amount of seating for this food court.

Matt bakes can be found in the back of the Gangnam market food court. I ordered the three sauce rice noodles which consisted of sesame oil, sriracha, and hoisin. I felt the combo was a bit basic but the rice noodles themselves were very fresh. I ended up having to wait 30 mins for them, which was a bit longer than I expected so I would only place an order here if you're looking for multiple meal size items as opposed to a snack.

We got the egg sando and the karaage chicken sandwich. The egg sando is not the like Japanese egg sando - it was honestly pretty underwhelming. The best part about it was the Japanese milk bread. The chicken sandwich was good but nothing special that I would come back for. The pastries looked good but we didn't get a chance to try them.

Inside Gangnam Market! Saw photos of their items on Gangnam Market yelp page so wanted to give some love on the shop's own page! Plenty of pastry items available and menu was extensive for breakfast items ~ I opt for the Char Siu Bun (Chinese BBQ pork) which comes with egg, hash brown, and cheese Everything was tasty and toasty, nicely charred too - really enjoyed this item, plantain chips were a nice snack too Free drink with every breakfast item! Would love to come back next time to try their Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken Bun

Truffle beef and egg sandwich with plantain chips and a sweet dessert I forgot the name. Shokupan something! All were delicious!!!!
    Jasmine V.

First time trying Matt Bakes and the girl behind the counter suggested the truffle beef egg sandwich and the sweet shokupan special. All I can say is wow. You could really taste the truffle in the thinly sliced beef and the egg was so soft. Nothing was overcooked. Just perfect. And then the crunch from the milk bread made it feel so delicate and savory. I'm drooling just remember the first bite! The plantain chips were a perfect pairing as it was not too sweet and had the perfect crunch. I also enjoyed the sweet shokupan dessert. I'm sorry I forget the name but it was a special over the weekend. It had creamy white custard of some sort inside and it was so good! I can't wait to come back and try the other items on the menu!

Food court spot in Gangam market. Was feeling breakfast so I got the char siu and fried egg Sando. Love me a pineapple bun. It was flaky and sweet. Nice fried egg and layer of cheese. Hash brown was super crisp but a little greasy. Finally, the pork was overcooked which took a lot away from the sandwich. Super messy so highly recommend some napkins. Plantain chips on the side were meh. Definitely worth stopping by especially on Monday when it's 30% off.

Ambience is a food court in the Gangnam Market. Gangnam Market is awesome and worth the trip on its own, but if you come to the Gangnam market then come with an appetite because they food options are great! The service is as straight forward as you'd expect for a food market. I've had Matt Bakes twice now. The first time I went I got the Char Siu and Fried Egg Sandwich which had BBQ pork, hash brown, fried egg & cheese on a pineapple bun. The Char Siu itself was 8/10 and the sandwich as a whole was 9/10. I'd give it a 10/10 if it had a little more cheese and if the egg was cooked just a little more. This breakfast sandwich gives Kasama's breakfast sandwich a run for its money. The first time I went I forgot to take a pics, but the second time I went I was sure to get a picture. The second time I went I got the Truffle Beef and Eggs Sandwich which included Truffle beef & soft scrambled eggs on shokupan with coleslaw on the side. This sandwich is very savory and one of a kind. I highly recommend you give it a try. The coleslaw was 7/10 which makes it worth trying in my opinion. I didn't get any pictures of the baked goods, but I highly recommend trying their donuts and strawberry bun. I even bought some of the pineapple buns for homemade burgers.

I've been a customer of almost 10 years and have been obsessed since they first opened their doors at a different location. I literally live an hour away without traffic and even longer with traffic, but I make sure to stop by or send someone else to get it for me at least once a month or more. I love the amazing cakes that are so delicious and unique but on top of that, it is Asian owned, LGBTQ supporting, etc. A lot has changed since their little storefront with no seating. The bakery is now a full on cafe and I'm so happy to see how much they've grown and how successful they are. And while it is glorious, I will say I miss the sweet neighborhood charm and great customer service it used to have. Getting in touch with the bakery through phone or text can be tough and to be honest, sometimes one of the people working there is kind of...very mean. It had me questioning if I should keep coming back. I just love this bakery so much though and being raised by parents that had a small food business, I can't help but want to support. I had a particularly difficult last minute request for the bakery a few weeks ago and I was reminded why this place is so great. It had been YEARS since I made this specific request, which was an order for a slice of cake for every flavor and a cupcake for every flavor. This is a BIG and time consuming request, especially if it's last minute. Unfortunately I come to the city whenever the traffic isn't atrocious, so it's always last minute. Dom absolutely pulled through though. Even though there were other employees there (I saw two others but one disappeared and then another male was kind of walking around the cafe and such), Dom took this giant request and fulfilled it himself. The other gentleman (not the mean person previously mentioned) was actually who I made the request to, but he told Dom to do it. I was kind of confused why they didn't do it together but idk, maybe the other guy isn't allowed to handle food? Who knows. Regardless, this request obviously took a long time and the line was getting longer; people were getting a little restless but Dom stayed calm but was swift. I swear he was moving faster than most people in the industry could with a cake knife like that. He was not impatient or rude to me at all. He was just there to do his job as fast and well as possible. It's so rare to see that type of work ethic. He is also so obviously proud of the bakery and the food they serve which makes you feel good about being a patron there. So although I continue to have an unpleasant experience with one particular employee there, Dom keeps my love for this bakery alive. He reminds me of what this bakery was like when they first opened their doors. I hope Dom is cherished there and I bet he is considering his work ethic. I will continue to support this bakery and I recommend everyone else to support as well. It may not be that small little shop anymore but Dom is a reminder of the heart of the place.

Seating is pretty limited, but it looked like most folks were picking up pastries to go, but either way you order at the front one party at a time. Truffle Croissant (5/5): A must get, super intense black truffle against a perfectly flaky and chewy buttery croissant. The large bits of pearl sugar add pops of sweetness that I loved. Mango Tart (4.75/5): Mango really shines through with melt in your mouth texture and fruity sweetness. Coconut pasty cream adds almost a nutty flavor and luscious mouthfeel to contrast against the lightly crunchy cookie crust. Prosciutto Croissant (4.5/5): Pastry again impeccable with sharp saltiness from the prosciutto and cheese. Still absolutely delicious, but hard to recommend with how good the other items were. Longanisa Breakfast Sandwich (5/5): Another life changing bite. Hash brown add on is unbelievably crunchy against the egg bite that is pillowy soft and fluffy roll. Longanisa is salty and sweet, just the best way to start your morning. Lumpia (3.75/5): Comes out piping hot and the meat still stays juicy and bouncy. Good, not crazy. Filipino Breakfast with Longanisa and Tocino (4/5): Garlic rice is fluffy, but heavy on the garlic exactly like I love it. Sunny side up eggs were perfectly cooked and the two meats were actually the weakest components, a bit chewier than expected. Chicken Adobo (4.25/5): Chicken has almost a nice char on the outside and doused in a tangy sauce with crispy garlic bits. Tender and juicy, personally preferred this over the longanisa and tocino. Sweet Corn Hojicha (2/5): Only real whiff that we tried. While you could really taste the corn, unfortunately ended up being wayyyy too sweet and I couldn't have more than a sip or two.

Flaky dough, soft pistachio center and creamy top with a sharp citrus cut. Peach + raspberry Melba danish. The peaches were soft. I'm not familiar with a Melba dessert but the center of this was almond paste which is not my favorite but if you like almond and tart danish it would hit the spot. Raspberry espresso cream cheese cinnamon roll was a fun fruity twist to a cinnamon roll. Couldn't really tell there was espresso though. Blueberry lime cheesecake danish. I also liked this one because of the lime. It really cuts through the heaviness. The fruits on top were also fresh. They also have one day old blind boxes. It only repeated 1 of the pasteries I had originally tried so I'm excited to try more, especially the savory ones. It's an amazing deal if you just want to try a variety of flavors. Tried the Hot dog danish - really good! Upscale pigs in a blanket vibes. The tiny fried are seasoned perfectly and add a fun crunch. They shared that the strawberry milk croissant was their bestseller, so I opted for that. It was filled with fresh strawberry mascarpone and fresh strawberry puree. Despite the croissant's decadent appearance, it was not at all too sweet. I'm not typically the biggest croissant fan (I know, I know, no one is perfect) but this pastry blew me away. The filling was super generous without overpowering the delicate dough, which was baked to crispy perfection.
