Last week was my first time there and it was okay, but nothing great. Visited with a girlfriend who had been there before and raved about the chocolate fondue. However, this was lunch, so chocolate fondue wasn't really calling my name. I had ordered the small Cobb salad witha cup of cream of spinach soup. The salad was just right. The greens were fresh, and all of the traditional Cobb "toppings" were there...egg, bacon, blue cheese. Can't remember if this one had avocado, but I did enjoy it. The dressing was served on the side. Fine...I had Ranch...but nothing special. The soup was okay. It had a "sweeter" flavor than I tend to like in soups. I didn't finish it because the salad was plenty and it just didn't excite me any. There wasn't anything wrong...just not my personal preferance. Service was good. The server kept our iced teas and waters full. My friend couldn't finish her salad and asked for a box to take it home. The box was brought quickly, but we did need to ask again for something to put the dressing in. Not a big deal. We checked out the chocolates on the way home. They all looked great, but it was just too hot a day to want to eat rich chocolate. I came close to taking some brownies home, but then I noticed they had nuts in them, so I passed on that. I just moved to Columbus and was craving something sweet after dinner. This was is right down the street so I decided to check it out and I do not regret it! The employees were friendly, the cafe was clean and inviting, the cheesecake was delicious and the coffee was good! If I could add a extra star, I would! The menu is a bit crazy, but I think I like it. There are cute little chocolates, big slices of chocolate cake, paninis, soup, coffee and hot chocolate drinks, cocktails, and etc. Basically, most people could find someone they want for 1) lunch, 2) dessert, 3) getting boozy and 4) a dozen treats to take home. I LOVE this place! Anything chocolate you can definitely find here. The staff are lovely people and always check in on you. There isn't a huge amount of parking, so keep an eye out for other areas to park. Also, when it's busy, they tend to move the tables really close together. If you're claustrophobic or not fond of people close to you, avoid a "busy" time of day. They have everything from soups, salads, and sandwiches to chocolatey alcoholic drinks. (I highly recommend the Dirty Girl Scout!) The desserts are delicious. When they give you a chocolate cookie, they warm it up and drizzle chocolate sauce on top. I first saw this place on Uber Eats and saw where they had banana pudding cake but were sold out. I then called the store to ask when they would be having that next. The girl on phone was so kind and told me she would put in a request with the baker and put down my name and number. The next morning I received a call from Baker Greg letting me know they had made the cake and would reserve a slice for me. I have never experienced better customer service. The employees at this cafe are the utmost kind and personable people. They were able to offer contactless delivery to me since I am COVID+. This review truly does not do this place justice. Now, for the banana pudding cake and dark chocolate truffles.. holy cow.... DELICIOUS!! Will be buying a full cake for my birthday. I am so glad COVID did not take my sense of taste. We came here for a small informal baby shower for my sister. I lived out of town and found this place from some reviews. The staff was AMAZING! They gave me linen table clothes, provided table service (usually you order at the counter). The food was absolutely delicious from the chocolate martini to the harvest club sandwich. Had a Rueben and chicken enchilada soup. The soup was outstanding. Nice mix of spicy and creamy. Came with crackers, but would have been better with tortilla chips or strips. The Rueben was delicious, loaded with Kraut, but light on the corned beef and sauce. Also had a latte for a caffeine boost for the drive back to Toledo. Foamy and delicious. Service was alright but all items are drastically overpriced. $16 for 1 piece of cake and a drink?? 1 slice of cake cost more than an entire cake from anywhere else. The slice of cake was big but was very bland in taste and not what you would expect from a cake called "chocolate explosion." You can literally find something so munch on or drink for any time of the day. The food is moderately priced and soups, sandwiches and salads are offered. Additionally, coffee, tea and beverages both alcoholic and non are served, along with some other plates. The desserts are extensive and of course live up to the name. I have been here 4 or 5 times and have been happy with it maybe once. The cakes are usually dry. The chai latte is weak. Mocha just tastes like hot chocolate. It's definitely overpriced for the quality of what you get. The food is pretty good, but I would not recommend the espresso drinks or the desserts. However, their hot chocolate is to die for. It's not obscenely rich (I'm thinking Burdick's in Cambridge MA), but it tastes like chocolate. The dark chocolate version is actually dark chocolate, not like your standard Swiss Miss packet which tastes like evaporated milk. I also ordered a sandwich - the Reuben. I didn't expect something amazing, because it's not a deli. But again, I was misled - the Reuben was fantastic! The meat was fresh-tasting and hot, and the sauerkraut generous and sour, and the dressing didn't taste nasty and bottled. I'm a little confused because chocolate and reuben don't go together, but honestly, I don't care. It's all delicious. Mmmmm ..... raspberry truffle martini ... great nightcap I had been out to dinner and my sweet tooth had been acting up. I've been here once before. I remember the hot cocoa with a touch of cayenne pepper had been quite satisfying. Now, I'm NOT a martini kind of person, but I had it in my head I wanted to try one ... that and some chocolate truffles. Upon driving up to the location, you realize there is limited parking available. I've not had a problem with finding a spot. The front is all glass with a view of Northwest Blvd. Several tables inside to relax and socialize with friends or family. The counter space slices the interior in half diagonally. At one end, you have an assortment of various chocolates, followed by tempting deserts. On the opposite end, you have a bar like area. Step up to the center of the counter space to place your order. Although the business name focuses on chocolate, they do offer much more. Other reviewers have noted the business model does not seem to have a specific niche. Yet, the diversity of the business --- works. The staff shared with me they have been in business for six years. Its a novelty store, chocolatier, bar, coffee and sandwich / soup / salad shop. The chocolate name drew me in, but the social setting made me want to stay. The staff were most helpful and personable. They enjoy what they do and strive to make the visit an enjoyable one. I purchased an assortment of truffles to go at $2.50 a truffle. I learned these truffles come from a place in Vermont. I tried several of them today. A bit of a hard outer shell with a fudgy interior. Although they satisfy my chocolate cravings, they were simply okay. Their defining traits, (i.e. mint, raspberry, etc), are overshadowed with their strong chocolate flavor, rather than complimenting it. They are good, but I believe next time, I will try something different. I have NO idea why I wanted a martini, but I did. I think it was because I was already full from dinner and wanted something that would not be heavy, yet venturesome, and tackle my chocolate craving. The raspberry truffle martini was very satisfying. It was not overtly alcoholic tasting as martini's can be. It went down smooth! My partner had a cup of chai tea latte and a slice of oreo chocolate cheesecake. He described the cheesecake as "to die for" and then reveled in the latte. The cheesecake was a fairly large slice and was not able to finish this rich desert, (just more for later). So my verdict, I do enjoy the concept and their offerings. They are a bit of a drive for me. So, I will definitely visit again in the future, but there are probably other sweet places closer that I will visit before making the longer trek again. read more

I stopped at the Chocolate Cafe on the way home from Kroger, just to check it out. I wanted some bakery, but didn't find much variety in the case--and what there was (some cake, cookies, lemon bars), was pretty expensive. About $5 for a piece of cake, and a slice of some other kind was 9.99/slice. That better be a heck of a piece of cake for $10 a slice. I ended up getting a single scoop of Buckeye Fever ice cream, which wasn't bad- didn't taste too much of peanut butter, but I like the idea of putting a malted milk ball in the bottom of the cone to prevent drips---even if the malted milk ball didn't taste that good. read more

I left the store today at 4:30 with a gift box that I now know contains 18 chocolates. The shelf says they are $2.50 a piece which would amount to $45. Somehow I was charged $60. I called the store and talked to the manager who told me the owner set the price at $60 and there was nothing she could do about it. It appears they are exploiting Valentine's shoppers. Such a sad thing for a local business to take advantage of their clients. The owner is supposed to call me back. If that should happen and he/she make it right then I will amend my review and just talk about the chocolate I have yet to consume. My family has been here a few times now and every time we are not disappointed. Absolutely amazing sandwiches. I usually get the Italian and my wife gets the warm turkey club. Both are soooo delicious. The staff here are extremely nice and are great at ensuring your drinks are filled and that your experience is great. This last time my wife got the hot chocolate and she said it was one of the best she's had. I haven't tried the desserts but I would imagine with the name Chocolate Cafe they are amazing. I often wonder how this place stays in business. It's very hidden and always empty. I think it can definitely benefit from giving free wi-fi. I've been here for all-you-can-eat fondue fridays (great deal) and happy hour for martinis. I think their chocolate martinis are pretty great - my favorite being the dirty girl scout martini. Happy hour is 4-7pm M-F and they have martini and wine specials. I've tried a flatbread sandwich here that was pretty boring and dry. I don't think this is a good place to get food unless you are starving and have to. It's good for drinks and desserts. read more

I love this place! The staff is always very friendly and courteous. They have a great menu with a little for everyone from salads to sandwiches to drinks and of course lots of treats and hot chocolate! They also have some kids sandwich choices. I haven't tried everything on the menu, but what I've had has been great including the hot chocolate and treats. Atmosphere is cozy. They have some outdoor seating as well. Location/view isn't the best (on a somewhat busy Northwest Ave. across from some generic apartments) but that doesn't detract too much from the overall experience. read more

I really wanted to like this place, but I simply can't recommend it. The offerings are WAY overpriced and simply average or below. Mind you, this is based on my first (and likely last) visit on a Saturday afternoon. Random impressions: -The lobster bisque was quite "meh" and just slightly warm, not hot. The bread bowl it came in was bland but inoffensive. -I ordered the bacon-apple-cheddar panini from the "seasonal menu" (which seemed to be the same as the regular menu - I think - the menus were all very confusing). Thin as an iPhone with only one or two slices of bacon. Taste was fine, but this was a VERY skimpy "sandwich" at comparatively thick prices. -As a treat, I chose to take home ten chocolate truffles. While these taste fine, the shells are more than a little hard, as if they had sat in the display for a bit too long. Service was fine, and I even liked that they have such a range of offerings (cafe food, bar, coffee, desserts, ice cream, chocolates, etc.). The food was just too little for far too much money.
