My husband and I now have a tradition baby go on a late night gelato run after dates and I found this place because it was open even at 11:00 p.m. Parking is a bit hard to find so he just waited on the side of the street with the parking lights on while I picked up some gelato. We got a medium with Kinder Bueno and Stracciatella. Both of them were good! The Kinder Bueno was extra smooth and creamy. Like it was so soft it just melted away into your mouth. The flavor was on point as well and I would definitely want to get this one again. We also really loved the Stracciatella - it was a vanilla base with pieces of chocolate shavings inside. I've had this flavor before at other gelato stores but never with this much chocolate presence. We could actually get the crunch in every bite. Only downside was they don't offer a smaller size with 2 flavors, so if you want two flavors you have to get the medium and essentially pay $8 with a credit card fee! A little too expensive for gelato I would say. read more

The restaurant is clean and modern. Food was tasty, but you should hire more workers. They were swamped! Poor things.. I waited 15 minutes for one item and drink! Pretty long wait time. DO NOT BUY THE PURE STRAWBERRY SMOOTHIE.. I did not like it at ALL. read more

I was craving ice cream and thought to try a spot besides the name brand a couple doors down. We got strawberry, Kinder Bueno, and toffee cream. Strawberry tasted like it was supposed to. Kinder Bueno did not taste like the chocolate treat. It was bland. Toffee cream tasted like milk. No flavor but milk. It was so disappointing. Then to order, the lady seemed annoyed that we didn't have our picks fast enough. We were the only ones there. We can ask for her when we're ready. But she stood there with a scowl. Maybe it was an off-day for her. Maybe the other ice creams are better in flavor. Maybe. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll come back. read more

Great place to come eat gelato but I wasted my time coming here they closed their doors 20 minutes early then what they have up call before going if you even want a dessert at night because they like to close earlier then the time that's posted up on their website. Really disappointed read more

very nice service. went there a little later at night i don't recommend going alone because there is a lot of homeless people in the area and it can be a bit scary. the ice cream was good, it's super big so i recommend sharing one. they have a lot of options for different food and desert. cozy place. read more

Nice place for after dinner sweets. Hubby and I came here after a nice dinner from Flemings. We are visiting San Diego for the weekend and I thought it would be nice to try someplace new for dessert. Decent price and good quality gelato. Not the friendliest staff but you get your moneys worth. They do offer other items besides gelato. I would've given this place five star if they would at least provide a friendlier customer service. I don't expect them to share their life away with me but a friendly smile would've made a huge difference. Price: A+ Quality: A+ Service: B Will we return? Definitely, when we return to San Diego. read more

Stopped by Chocolat Cremerie during a recent visit to San Diego. I was staying in the Gaslamp District for a few nights and had a sudden craving for some dessert one of the evenings. After a quick scan of the area on Google Maps, I stumbled upon Chocolat Cremerie. It was right around the corner from my hotel and also had decent reviews from fellow Yelpers, so I gave it a try. I will never turn down the opportunity for a good crepe. Though my order was good, the rest of the experience, specifically with service, at Chocolat Cremerie left a lot to be desired. Upon entering their shop, I got a super eerie vibe. Though they seemed to be fully staffed and not that busy, there was no welcome or hello extended from any of the staff members until I reached the register to order. The girl who helped to take my order couldn't have been less excited to be working and had no problem showing it. The wait time for my order was reasonable. I was handed my completed order by another member of their staff and I quickly realized that the gelato was missing. I politely inquired and the girl helping me seemed so annoyed I asked. It was a super awkward (and unnecessary) interaction. I ended up ordering the Berries & Vanilla Bean Gelato, which is basically a crepe filled with various mixed berries and accompanied with a scoop of Vanilla Bean gelato. The crepe itself was prepared to my liking and the crepe had a good spread and fill of berries in side. The Vanilla Bean gelato was a good complement to the crepe, especially with the tartness of some of the berries. Though the crepe was tasty, it was a little expensive for what it was. Perhaps this could be attributed to the location? Based on the poor service alone, I would probably not return, however, as others have mentioned it is a late night option in the Gaslamp for hungry diners offering both sweet and savory options for potential customers. read more

I'll admit I love sweet treats, so making a stop at Chocolate Cremerie was a must when in the Gaslamp Quarter. They make their gelato fresh - if you go in the kitchen, you'll see all the equipment and fresh ingredients. When they run out of a flavor, that's it for the day. By the way, the pistachio and Oreo flavors are the most popular. Getting a crepe is also a must. They have both sweet and savory available - of course I got the chocolate, banana and strawberry one - watching it being freshly made in front of you is fun. read more

Came here for some gelato and got the cantaloupe and pineapple gelatos. Both flavors tasted good but was way too expensive for the serving size. I also noticed they charged a credit card surcharge too, which is ridiculous in 2024. I purposefully didn't tip when I saw the surcharge charged. I would've normally tipped at least a dollar when I get ice cream but not if you are going to charge a petty credit card surcharge. Your prices are high enough, it should include your credit card processing fees in the menu prices. read more

Stopped by here during a stroll through the Gaslamp district. They have amazing gelato. I got the double scoop with dark chocolate and hazelnut Nutella flavors. The dark chocolate was yummy, almost had a mousse-like consistency. The hazelnut Nutella was good too but more like a distant second. The girl who helped us was very nice. read more

Amazing! My husband and I went in for the gelato to cool off on a warm evening and we were not disappointed. We were greeted by a friendly staff who helped us choose our flavors and gave us little samples of different ones. There are a few small tables to enjoy your food before heading out, but many got their food to go. I got a medium cup with Kinder Bueno (hazelnut and chocolate) and coconut. The Kinder Bueno was an incredibly smooth and creamy version of the chocolate bar. The coconut was like eating a fluffy cloud. Both were the perfect level of sweet. I would love to go back for the pasta, paninis, crepes, or something from the pastry case. Whatever you are craving. This is the place to stop! read more

Earlier that evening at Saltwater Grill: Me: "Do you want dessert?" Her: "Yes, that would be nice" Me: "I saw a crêperie on the way here; why don't we skip dessert here, and get a dessert crêpe there?" Spoiler alert: this was a mistake. I ordered a crêpe with pastry cream and mixed berries. The crêpe was just ok, and puzzlingly it only contained one single berry: strawberry. What about the other mixed berries? At $13, this crêpe was rather forgetful. You know when you eat something, and immediately you regret it? Yes, this was that kind of experience. The pastries and cake slices on display looked really nice, so perhaps sweet crêpes are not their forte and we ordered the wrong thing. read more

Stopped here for dessert after having dinner in PQ. This sweet shop is located in the gaslamp district in DTSD. You'll definitely have to hustle to find parking unless you get lucky. Originally wanted to go to Ghirardelli but we arrived as they were about to close. After walking a bit more, we ran into this place. All I saw was the word "chocolate" and that did me in. Was glad to see they weren't closing for another hour. There was no line so we quickly went in and placed our order. Good thing we did because soon after, a line formed behind us! The staff is masked and they were fast getting our orders to us. There were tables set up inside. Sat down and ate our goodies. That gelato was nice, smooth and creamy, just as it's meant to be. Flavor was great! The little chocolate candies were just as good. Tiramisu and carrot cake were divine! They have a pretty extensive menu for a dessert shop. You can order other food items besides sweets to have as a meal. They have flatbreads, crepes, sandwiches...if you like wine, they have some here too. Prices were a bit high, but you're in the gaslamp! I love finding unexpected treasure spots such as this one. I recommend coming here to get your sweet or savory fix if you're in the area. I'll be back for sure to try other things on their menu! read more

"SOME OF THE BEST NUTELLA ICE CREAM" - BUT HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! They would of gotten more stars if their employees weren't so bothered by the presence of a customer. I went on thanksgiving night, walked in, there was a male and female working. The male employee had a nasty attitude. But it was thanksgiving so I got past it. I would ask simple questions like "do you offer samples" and he would respond as if I offended him. I also couldn't really understand him and noticed he spoke Spanish so I thought I would show him that I'm Hispanic and start speaking Spanish to him and maybe make him feel more comfortable. He understood what I said in Spanish but he would only reply back in his English which I couldn't really understand; So he had to repeat himself which only aggravated him more. Idk why he couldn't just speak Spanish to me. ICE cream tasted amazing, BUT because OF the customer service and THE PRICING ; I WILL not be coming back! read more

Service wasn't the best, but this cafe is cute and has character. Lots of gelato flavors to choose from. I sampled the cantaloupe and really liked it. It was refreshing. I got a medium with cantaloupe and striatella (chocolate chip) and it was the perfect after dinner dessert. Lots of seating inside and outside although outside was a group of people trying to give away their music on cds. Hard to enjoy your dessert with people shoving stuff in your face. read more

So....to this Yelper, 5th Ave south of G is a happening spot in Gaslamp. They've been most active keeping businesses afloat during the pandemic. Chocolate is amongst the survivors and it's also been there ever since I moved here in 2009. The best thing about Chocolat is the consistency in its gelato. What better way to take in a Sunday farmers market and lunch than to have their gelato!!! It's never a bad time at Chocolat and to my surprise, they offer a weekend breakfast menu. How cool is this?? Honestly the worst customer service ever. I walked in and perused the flavors. I was going to go for my standard straciatella but was then intrigued by a toffee flavor. I asked if I could try the toffee and was told they do not give samples.... Hmm... really?? I wasn't trying to taste every flavor, just one! So I asked the other young lady. She said, we can't do anything during our rush hour. Mind you, this is 8:45 on a Sunday night and my father and I are, quite literally, the only ones in the store. So I look around and ask her, what rush hour?? We are the only ones here! And she says, well, you just got here! I'm perplexed and annoyed by now. Management should be advised that customers are not being valued or respected. I could understand if I looked as if I was trying to scam the system for free samples but clearly I had intention of patronizing this establishment. I would rather walk away with a bad taste in my mouth than settle for subpar service. read more

Don't come here. They charge and extra dollar for a large size iced coffee but only have 1 size, that being 12oz. So they just take an extra dollar for no reason other than shady business practices. They don't even tell you, just pay attention to the exra charges when they ring you up. read more

I went here for dessert a few weeknights ago.They have a couple of tables outdoors to enjoy your drinks during COVID. I have been to the Hillcrest Chocolat location 4 years ago, but it was my first time at this store. Chocolat is a coffee shop and they also sell desserts and gelato. It's pricier than a lot of other places. I remember the canolis they sold at the Hillcrest location used to be $8.95 for 3 tiny canolis the last time I went, here they sell it 3 for $12. Their cheesecakes are $11-$12 for a slice which I thought was a bit steep considering a slice at Cheesecake Factory is $8.95. Their hot tea is $6. I'm not sure if their high prices are due to it being downtown or maybe they bumped it up during COVID? I ended up getting a Cafe Etoile which is a hot dark chocolate. It was just alright. read more

We were hungry at 11am on a Wednesday at the gaslamp so wanted to find something casual with good food. Glad we came across this place. Hubby had a savory crepe with mozzarella tomatoes and I had the chicken panini. My panini was huge! I only ate half and saved it for later. Overall hit the spot Service was also quick and friendly. He even gave us two free bottle of water when I asked for some ice water. It was super nice. read more

Came here for quick drink as I was walking around and I got the spiced chai latte (iced). My drink was nicely made -- not too sweet but wonderfully creamy and flavorful. The place was empty that afternoon but I appreciated the patience of the guy working there as I read through the menu and decided what I wanted to get. They have so many options and I hope to come back another time to try their crepes and gelato! read more

Gelato anybody? Oh man; now this is some rich, decadent, indulgent, deep flavored gelato. I didn't catch my other half's choice but I did share bites. I had a vanilla bean and chocolate. The dark chocolate was like pure fudge; tasted like a pure fudgy dark thick chocolate cream. The vanilla was creamy and with true vanilla notes. She had a lighter milk chocolate and strawberry. I enjoyed the fresh berry bites throughout hers. The atmosphere here is definitely old Italian. It is a small deli counter with lots of pizza and panini offerings. We just came for the gelato. There's a baby outdoor patio for seating squished in between a 7-11 and a pizza by the slice joint. It's a noisy affair outside with many homeless unfortunately. But nobody bothered us a bit. read more

If you're looking for ice cream in the Gaslamp district, you can find decent flavors here to satisfy your sweet tooth. We tried Oreos n cream (much too plain- needs more flavor and cookies) and toffee (like a light caramel, would have been better with more caramel drizzle). The gelato isn't too sweet which was fantastic but was not anywhere as thick as I prefer my gelato to be. Felt more like a smooth medium density ice cream to me. Next time I'll be back to try the dark chocolate if I'm in the area. read more

Ngl best desserts I've had since moving to SD. The red velvet cheesecake was most definitely my fave. I am not even a fan of cheesecake but I'd definitely come back just for that one. The hot lava choc cake was good but it wasn't actually cake that I was looking for, but still was a good little dessert. Glad it was warmed. The choc strawberry was okay. Upset there wasn't like a strawberry syrup or anything just choc cheesecake with choc syrup and strawberry pieces. The place was a little hidden off but we found it and of course parking is always a struggle here but cute little place. Service was great. Called ahead to see if they have warmed desserts, they gave me my options and very understanding and patient during ordering. Wait time was about 10/15 min. Not long at all. Overall, very good. Perfect dessert place when walking around SD all day. We stopped in after dinner to fix the sweet tooth cravings. Each of these were DELICIOUS! The Limoncello Cake was so fresh, light and creamy. Sweet but tart. The creme brulee was torched when ordered. So came out warm and creamy. The strawberries on top were so ripe and sweet. The crepe! It could have been filled with mud and it would have been good still. So warm, sweet and chewy. Filled with Nutella, you can't go wrong. Crave-able desserts! Service was great. Okay! Over lived in SD for quite awhile. Chocolat has been here a bit too. Long enough to establish themselves in GASLAMP! The place is beyond cute and the crepes and espresso are amazing! You need to get a Nutella crepe here or your trip to SD is not complete! As for the mocha! Yes! The Mocha!! I sometimes consider myself a mocha aficionado. I have two places in SD I LOVE mochas from and this is one of those places! Great selection of gelato as well as chocolates to tantalize your taste buds! Had a late night craving for dessert on our recent visit to San Diego! Chocolat Cremerie was open, which was very convenient considering it was 9:30! Hours are very late night friendly! For three desserts, one with a scoop of ice cream was over 40 dollars. It was all pretty mediocre, especially for the price and serving sizes. Nothing was spectacular. We got the lemon cheesecake, which was more cake than anything, the apple crumble with ice cream and the green brûlée. Honestly, the ice cream was the best! So skip the desserts and grab a scoop of their gelato. read more

One word... YUM! Came across this place since my husband was craving some gelato. He ended up getting something like a cookies and cream Gelato, he loved it and so did I! I especially really enjoyed the little chocolates that they had. I ended up getting the Passionfruit and the brown butter pecan, both were delicious with great flavor! It was AMAZINGLY creamy and the waffle cone was perfectly sweet! Everyone enjoyed their gelato and we really appreciated this place. Let me start off by saying I USED to go here all the time. I was in love with their white chocolate gelato. I was in love with their nutella and marscapone crepe with bananas added. I was in love with their espresso and vodka sorbet. I would go an entire week without eating dessert just so I could feel good about eating here. It has all changed in a matter of a few visits. The place is pretty. However, the layout of the restaurant is poorly planned. On busy weekends, there are people crowding the place just trying to get "samples" and there are the other groups of people who just stand there. Sometimes they are a little slow on clearing out the tables. It's ridiculous just trying to get in and out of the place. There was this one Asian waitress who worked here. I think her name was Julie, but correct me if I am wrong. She was the sweetest person I have ever come across there. She was always so kind to my boyfriend and me. Unfortunately we never see her there anymore. We're assuming she quit. :( Anyways...lets fast-forward to the present. The last couple of experiences/visits I have had there have been the WORST customer service EVER! It was around 10:55pm when my bf and I walked into Chocolat craving an espresso and a crepe. We just saw one of the employees just finished preparing a crepe for another customer. When we went to order it, they said their "kitchen" was closed! The place doesn't close till 12am! There have been a lot of other times my bf and I have walked by Chocolate around 11pm and they were just CLOSED! Anyways...that one guy that works the cashier should be fired. He's awful and rude. So basically if you want good sweets go here...just don't expect any service, because they'll more than likely just kick you to the curb. read more

Disappointing Experience - Overhyped and Undelivered. I rarely write negative reviews, but my experience at Chocolate SD left me no choice. This was, hands down, one of the worst dining experiences I've had in San Diego. The service was abysmal, completely inattentive, unfriendly, and disorganized. It felt like the staff had no interest in providing even the bare minimum level of hospitality. The crepes were equally disappointing, bland, poorly made, and far from what I'd expect from a place that markets itself as a chocolate haven. The flavors didn't pop, the presentation was sloppy, and the overall quality was shockingly bad. To top it all off, the hype around this place feels completely unwarranted. Don't believe the positive reviews, they don't align with the reality of what this place offers. There are far better dessert spots in San Diego that actually care about their customers and their food quality. Absolutely not worth your time or money. read more

I had a terrible experience here. This place discriminates against Hispanic people. I came here for a couple beers with my wife and buddies. I got up to use the restroom and the manager of the place starts yelling at me to get out for no reason at all. Im like dude I'm here with my wife and friends what's your problem? After using the restroom I walked up to him and asked him what's the name of his business. After that he came up to my table and started apologizing profusely...yea sorry buddy you already tried kicking me out because I'm Mexican. It's funny because the manager looks like he's fresh out of Al Qaeda's training facility. I was literally denied bathroom entry because of my skin tone. If you love racism and bigotry then this is the place for you. He even tried to fight me after he saw that I was writing this review. read more

There's really only a few reasons you'll ever find me in the suburbs and eating at a crepe place definitely isn't one of them. Not really big on this food item...never really have been and probably never will be. This being said, after noshing at Nu for a work meeting I'd at least hit them up again...if they were in the city. That's saying a lot coming from me. They do sweet. They do savory. And they do both pretty well. I had the Zippy Thai Yay and similarly to Bruce's breakup with Demi it left me wanting Moore. Snap! It's a cute little location down a back alley so you should probably stop and ask a local for directions, but if you somehow find yourself in SD it's not a bad stop in. read more

An absolute find in San Diego! Probably the creamiest gelato I've found in the States after 14 years of living in Europe and sampling gelato across Europe, particularly the gelaterias in Italy. The flavors, portions, creaminess and method of serving using paddes are similar to those gelaterias in Italy. I've seen countless places where the gelato glistens, is too soft, have flavors like choc chip cookie and served using ice cream scoops...if you see these things walk away. Chocolat's gelato has a dull creaminess, is dense, has flavors like cantaloupe and mango, and is served using paddles...Chocolat gelato is the real deal. read more

Start off by saying super neat place reasonably priced....the gelato was divine,of course......but i was not expecting the food to be so freaking delicious I have been thinking of it all day I think Im going back with my boyfriend tonight...the thing that got the 5th star for this review was our waiter Angel! , Angel was so thoughtful and informitive i told him he needed to teach a how to class on service. i'd give it a total of a 2 star all in all. Not a bog fan of gelato but still, i tried it just for the sake of knowing what the fuzz is all about this gelato shop. Well actually, upon arriving at the store i noticed a heavy atmosphere. And when i started to order that famous pistachio gelato, i was just disappointed with the awful service the staff had given me. They were unfriendly and not accomodating to me at all. This place sells everything. They range from Italian food to gelato and more. I went there for the gelato. I've actually never tried gelato in my life and this was my first time so I did not know what to expect. The lady at the counter was very patient and giving us samples. She never looked impatient even for a second. The guy next to her however look like he was impatient and wanted to rush us. Anyway, I decided to get that cheesecake flavor. yum, My girlfriend and I popped in to look around because the space was so cute. Though the gelato was calling to us, we needed actual food first. We settled on splitting a spinach and ricotta crepe and flatbread with tomatoes and fresh mozzarella. You could tell the ingredients were high quality and fresh and we enjoyed every bite! This looked like a nice place to grab a bite so we stopped in. We ordered the breakfast burrito with no avocado, a BLTA, and avocado toast with egg on top. The drinks came out within reason but then we were stuck waiting . People before us had received their food. Finally after 30 mins I got my burrito and of course it had avocado on it. I ate the side that didn't have it but I was bummed to pay, wait 30 mins, and get it wrong. But I wasn't about to complain and be forced to wait longer for a correct version. Our friend who ordered the avocado toast went up and asked if hers would be done soon and they said they didn't have that order in the system.they scrambled to make it and handed it to her and totally forgot the egg she paid extra for. They took it back and added an extra egg as an apology but by then it had been 40 mins. The food isn't bad but the wait was far from worth it. I'd rather go to a chain and get something quicker. I love to support small business but this was not worth it in any way. Also hard to wait that long while the meal wasn't cheap in any means. Just disappointed.

One other thing, the Tiger Cafe website menu prices it at $13.00 but the store wall menu says $16.75, I asked the lady behind the counter and she said they raised the prices several months ago, (she also informed me that they are pre-baked then re-heated when ordered,) this discrepancy is not right! But regardless of the price it would be worth paying it for fresh baked, hot and tasty, which it was not!

It was 3:00p in the afternoon and this is a breakfast place that was closed at the time and the city has sidewalk cleaners that come every morning so even though I picked up the poop, anything leftover would have been cleaned the next morning anyway. Also, I'm also pretty sure the sidewalks are public spaces and he in no ways owns the sidewalk. He then started screaming "do you want to see my permit?!" And when I said "yes please I would like to see it" he replied "well I don't have it". Then the threats came. He started threatening to take my photo and spread it all over the city and social media. I'm unsure who he planned on sending it to but it was a clear attempt to bully and intimidate. He then continued to raise his voice while repeating "GO TO HELL!" at me until he decided to go inside the business. Honestly, if this gentleman would have said "hey would you mind not letting your dog poop here?" it just could have been a completely different situation. No matter what the situation, this business owner is mean, rude, and aggressive to where I didn't feel safe and won't come back here. I would suggest you do NOT come here, whether you have a dog or not, because the food and coffee aren't worth it.
