Discovered this little spot while on oaklawn, and was intrigued to go in, mainly driven by an insatiable love for chocolate... The decor is very relaxing with some seating available to sit down and enjoy a coffee with your chocolates... However, the main attraction is the two big displays of chocolate, with incredibly gorgeous designs and flavors, that I was at a complete loss of what to order. I ended up choosing the "chocolate-covered gouda mouse" thereby trying to mix my love of cheese with the chocolate on offer.... aaaand it was NOT a good choice, the gouda was cut in small, flaky blocks and went terribly with the chocolate coating! Bad choice, i'll admit, i should have gone with something more traditional or less experimental. Thankfully, my gf chose a more regular chocolate option (caramel, i think?) but it was delicious! I guess they have their good stuff and their more risky, experimental chocolates, so it can be hit or miss... This is a great little chocolate and pastry shop. It's a wonderful place to come with a date, share a glass of wine, a truffle or two, and listen to some live jazz or blues music (they have live performances in the evenings, Wednesday through Saturday). The chocolates are delicious little works of art. They are indeed a little pricey, but I'm willing to pay extra for artistry. Chocolate Secrets also has a great selection of Harney & Sons teas, and they make an excellent Mexican hot chocolate. I wouldn't recommend the peppermint hot chocolate (it was overwhelmingly pepperminty, like toothpaste) but I give the place credit, when I told the server that I didn't care for it they took it right back and made me something else. I have always experienced the service to be top notch. In short, bring a date for a very romantic evening, or just bring a friend who enjoys good chocolate. Stopped by for a taste of their macarons today... Friendly guy behind the counter greeted us and gave us a sample of the raspberry dark chocolate and the coconut lime. OOOO they were delicious. I LOVE how bright the colors are and how smooth the dark chocolate was. Since they specialize in chocolate, I guess it makes sense that there were only 4 flavors of macarons. I bought one of each (2.50 each, no discount for getting 6 or a dozen)- pistachio, coconut (I think), mojito, and popcorn. He packaged it up in the cutest box and gave it to me in their lovely bag. We chatted a little longer- all the chocolate is made here in store (only a few imported from France) and they also have live jazz Wed- Sat (?) at 7:30! Everything was well until we got home and actually tried the macarons. Although they were the most beautiful macarons I've ever laid my eyes on, unfortunately, it was apparent these macarons were old. The first 3 I tried were... edible, I thought, and a little stale, but when I got to the last one, I realized THIS one was from their freshest batch and previous 3 macarons were INCREDIBLY stale. This last macaron was the perfect shape, the perfect light crunch on the outside-chewy on the inside, the perfect white, and the perfect amount of popcorn... It was glorious!! The reason why this place gets 3 stars is because all of your macarons should be this wonderful for this price in Dallas. Other than that, this shop seems amazing... Lots of seating for dessert and wine. I'll be reviewing this place again after going for one of their jazz nights! Website boasted white linens and fine china - this was black table cloths and standard restaurant cups, saucers, and plates. No scones, macarons instead that were pretty good. No milk/sugar for tea. I understand that it may not be as busy as a weekend, but in situations like I was in it last night it's better to have at least two staff members. The gal working was really nice by all means. She was happy and apologetic for the wait. As for the treats... They recently changed out the chocolates on one of the chocolate cases into these pretty brightly colored Bon Bons. The shells are even finished off with coco butter for the nice shiny finish. They have Bon Bon flavors that ranges from Lime to Early Gray. As for the traditional chocolates those remained the same. We had the banana peanut butter cup. Imagine a Reese's cup but 3 times it's size filled with both flavors inside. My husband had the hot chocolate, and that was good. It was decadent and was smooth and creamy with just enough chocolate. Now as for the ice cream, it was a mere disappointment. I ordered a pistachio ice cream and went it came out it looked like light colored chocolate ice cream with ALOT of nuts in it. Which made it overly salty. I tasted nothing but salt from the pistachios. Also we had the chocolate ice cream in a cone and the cone tasted like it been out for days. I came here Jan 29th for my birthday and had a party of 10 ladies for Afternoon tea. It's a cozy place with elements of class with outside patio, wine bar, gelato station, bakery station and of course the room with the stage. So lots of options for seating. When we arrived we were greeted and brought to our table and there were two 3-tier serving plates on our table and our table was set elegantly with fine china. So great first impression. Our server introduced herself and brought out waters and took our tea order. I was under impressed with the tea selection. There were only 5 selections to choose from although the Parisian tea I choose was great. Also I noticed there was no hot water for tea readily available, so it took a while to get a refill. There were two big groups at the time and the server took care of us both. Occasionally someone from the kitchen or front counter came to help her but I felt like she was short staffed. We had fruit, sandwiches, stuffed eggs on one tray. Pretty handmade chocolates , scones and chocolate covered strawberries. Very pretty table and good food. The sandwiches could have been made better but the desserts more than made up for it! My slice of salted caramel cake was moist and absolutely delicious! All in all it was a fun and good experience.. It was awkward to see so many tables reserved, but I get it. I have deducted a star because when we asked for a water, the guy took 3 glasses, put it under the faucet and got our water. So many wonderful things to say about this place! In a nice, and well-lit part of town where parking did not seem to be much of an issue. The staff, especially the young man working behind the counter, was not only enthusiastic about his job but was very knowledgeable and had great recommendations to offer. The raspberry cheesecake was exactly as good as was conveyed to us and my friend, when hearing the enthusiasm from the employee about the quality, decided not to share some of mine but get one of her own (which, after tasting mine, was happy not to have to share *smile*)! A very extensive wine menu to accompany that of what seemed to be endless amounts of chocolate options. Hot beverage options are available and some food options (although they were out of the sandwiches that evening). I am very particular about direct contact with hands on food but the gentleman was very careful in putting on gloves then changing them out when he transitioned from food to money, then back again. The live music was really, really good and someone I've listened to over the years so, that was a nice treat. The room for the live music is quaint and intimate. Do not come here and pay for tea. I came into Dallas to visit my friend and we thought I'd be a great idea to get tea here. However, when we got there we did NOT receive all the food we paid for. When we scheduled our reservation in January we were promised/ paid for 4 main menu items which we only received 3 ( we did not get the pecan covered cheese log & clotted cream). When I asked if that item was going to be substituted the lady which (I assumed to be the manager) laughed in my face, was super passive aggressive, and rude. Her point was that it stated on the website how the menu was subjected to change. I get that, but here's my problem with that. You don't take AWAY items you SUBSTITUTE them!!! We had already paid for that item so I don't understand the thought process of taking away items in which your costumers had already paid for & not substituting them for something else. My friend and I paid a combined $150 for this experience and didn't get no where near $150 worth of food. read more

It paired well with the Dry Riesling I consumed. They have outside seating as well as inside. There was live music in one of the rooms. The decor is very casual and nice. Come for the chocolate not for the Afternoon Tea. I was so disappointed. For $75 a person I had high expectations. Don't come hungry there isn't very much food. I had to ask for the cucumber sandwiches 2 times and we had to ask to get scones, that came out room temperature (the 2 things I came for). They didn't have clotted cream (which is an English tea must). We asked for hot chocolate for my daughter 2 times and it never came. For $35 my daughters got half a peanut butter sandwich. For $75X2 and $35X2 we got maybe 3 sandwich total, 4 scones, 4 strawberries, 4 macaroons, a small bowl of fruit and assorted chocolates. For drinks we were offered one glass of tea and half a glass of water that was never refilled. They did try to make up for the poor service by sending a bag of chocolates home and gave us a discount. If you want an English tea service go somewhere else just come here for chocolates. read more

The staff were great and put together a little plate of various chocolates that included an Ancho Chile bon bon and a Strawberry Balsamic bon bon, which were both different and good. In addition to all the sweets, Chocolate Secrets also have live music on select nights and offers various chocolate related classes.
