Came here after a friend recommended it. It's a small, unassuming restaurant that is family owned. I must admit I was skeptical, as I've never had a true Korean dining experience. This place surpassed my expectations. The owner was so friendly and generous. I wish I remembered her name because she was awesome. Her mom comes in everyday to cook. They bring out various kimchi starters and I was impressed. I've had kimchi before, but the kimchi radish, potatoes, and cucumbers were DELICIOUS. It had the perfect tang and spice level. Not too spices but enough to tickle the tongue. Wasn't overly sour either. The spicy beef soup, yukgaejung, was AMAZING. The broth was deep with flavor and this one does have some spice. Generous portion of beef in there. The glass noodles were delicious and the addition of egg was wonderful. The Haemul Pa Jeon was HUGE. Easily shared amongst the 3 of us. Great flavor and I loved the soy-vinegar accompaniment. I was skeptical about the seafood inside but it was great and not fishy. Finally, the L.A. Galbi.. so good! There was a sweetness and savory-ness to them that I enjoyed. So delicious and again, generous portions. Are you noticing a theme here? My mom was in the mood for Korean food and I had heard some wonderful things about this place so we went on a Saturday and the lovely co-owner welcomed us and made us feel at home. She gave us some wonderful recommendations and a little history about how their place came to be. They had a restaurant in Seattle and came down to Arizona a few years back, focusing more on traditional dishes rather than fusion. All I can say is that tradition is delicious! They have the best kimchi I have ever had and I've eaten at so many Korean restaurants, both here and in LA's Koreatown. I should have bought some to take home! Their Hameul Pajeon was wonderfully light and crispy, studded with seafood, and I finished my share wayyyyy too quickly! The spicy squid & vegetable stir-fry was delicious but that heat definitely began to build. I'm a bit of a wimp so I'm probably not the best at gauging spice, but it was still delicious and worth the burn! The Budae Jigae is something I have always heard about, but never had the chance to try, but I'm so glad I did! The spam made it super savory and not overly salty like I had originally feared. It was savory and had so many diverse but harmonious flavors that I think I might be rather addicted to it now. I think they are under new ownership. They have even less sides than before. They don't have the dried seaweed or the apple salad. They have kimchi, pickled radish, some sweet pickled cucumber, potato and bean sprouts. The bean sprouts were very salty to me. I thought that the side dishes were pretty good but was sad about the discontinued ones. Also, it seems like you might not be able to get a second serving of the side dishes unlike before. The utensils are in a box on the table. I liked how they had the utensils not public before. The water cups are now metal instead of plastic. The same with the side dish dish ware. The rice was purple due to little purple beans that was in the rice. I am still a little sad they don't have the stone rice anymore that automatically came with the soup. I had the soup and it was just like I remember mostly, but still good. The top of the soup had some broth on it which was interesting but didn't change the flavor. I wish they sold tteokbokki. Man so glad we found this hidden gem in downtown Chandler. Located in a runned down strip mall, the food here definitely hits the spot. The decor is simple with a line of bowls displayed by the wall. We got seated immediately. Our host appeared to be the owner hardly smiled and took our order rather rudely. May be she was just having a bad day or something. Anyways we got the Son Tofu Kimchi Soup with Seafood pancakes. It took a while for the food to come but damn it was worth the wait. That Tofu soup was one of the best Korean stew I have ever had. The tofu was soft and jiggly. The broth was packed with flavors, thick and rich with kimchi, and pork. Loved the rice. The combo hit the spot. My heart was full! The pancake was doughy but cooked through. I can tell the banchan was fresh. God the cucumber and cabbage kimchi was so so good! The price was bit higher compared to other Korean BBQ joints in the valley. But goodness the food was delicious. The service could've been better. The Kimchi tofu soup is my favorite version in the area. It has a rich, deep flavor and an extra, mystery, pickled veg floating in there that makes it interesting. We also got the spicy pork bulgogi, but we ordered it "not spicy," and they did a great job modifying it so our kiddo could it eat it too. There's another restaurant that serves our favorite bulgogi, but this version was fine. The banchan sides are tasty. The kimchi is rich with deep flavor, likely homemade there, and the best I've had around. I enjoy the zucchini side as well. Really kind waiter and family run restaurant! Came on a Saturday for lunch and the restaurant was maybe 75% full. Decor and food felt very homey and cozy. We ordered the seafood pancake, beef bulgogi, and ox bone soup with beef brisket. The ox bone soup was my fave - piping hot nice thick soup with glass noodles perfectly cooked and some lean brisket. Note: doesn't come salted so you need to add salt to your desired level yourself. The soup is filled with collagen which is great for your skin! The seafood pancake and bulgogi left more to be desired. Unfortunately the pancake was too thick and doughy for our liking and not much seafood. The bulgogi was a little dry and overdone. Dishes do come with rice and unlimited banchan - just wish the side dishes had more variety. I do want to try the mackerel if we ever return. Stopped in a Monday evening. Probably one of the few people in here so no wait and good service. Don't think I've had Korean food really, but friend is Korean and helped us order. Got Seolleongtang, Bibim Naengmyeon, and Kimchi Pancake. Personally I enjoyed it all, but it was my first time really eating all of this so my opinion might not be as good as my friend's. The kimchi pancake was an appetizer, and my friend said it was thicker than most and not as crunchy, but it was good. I wanted to try makgeoli so we had some here as well which was really good. The soup was the best thing we had. My friend was very impressed by it. It had a very clean initial taste and then the strong beef bone taste came afterwards. It is common for soups like this to be unsalted and the menu says so. So you can adjust the salt level to your liking, but very good. The spicy noodles were ok. The ban chan surprisingly wasn't that good/nothing to write home about. All in all a very good meal. I see a lot of reviews about portions. It might depend on what you get. My friend said this was the best Korean food she's had in the area, but really the soup carried the rating. For all of this plus makgeoli, around $70. Change of ownership and grand opening 2/10/2023! Still homey inside (not sure if they painted their ceilings to look like the outside sky, like the casinos ), and food is tasty! Menu and prices have changed. Service was faster than when last team's management just had two guys running around for 15+ tables, but still a touch slow (perhaps due to grand opening and learning the workflows?) now it's about 3-4 people and food took about 30-40 min to come out.
