Korean BBQ is all about timing, attentiveness, and energy -- and he mastered all three. He was incredibly attentive without hovering. Our table was never cluttered, drinks were always refilled before we even had to think about it, and the meat rotations were perfectly timed. At a place like Gen where the pace can make or break the experience, he kept everything flowing smoothly. What impressed us most was his professionalism and attitude. He was knowledgeable about the menu, quick with recommendations, and confident in explaining different cuts and options. He made sure we understood how everything worked and checked in consistently to ensure we had exactly what we needed. But beyond just doing his job, he had that rare quality of genuine service. More so 2.5 stars really. Table of 2 on Saturday around 1:30pm. Dinner price on weekends ~$32 per person. Seated right away. Things started picking up after. Probably understaffed as there were only 2 people walking around handling tables. Had to flag them down to order. The corn cheese is not my favorite. It comes pre-made in a tiny tiny bowl and then you have to cook it yourself. It's not as buttery or flavorful either. This was my third time here, and I continue to enjoy good food and good service. On a Tuesday late afternoon it wasn't busy and the lunch option worked best for us. I read another Yelper say that the honey soy beef belly was their favorite so we tried it and really enjoyed it. I love their KFC as well., as well as the brisket, bulgogi and plain pork belly. So many good options. The manager who jumped in a few times was helpful along with the food delivers. Our host and server, seem distracted. We ordered a few things from the kitchen (Korean Fried Chicken, pot stickers, & calamari rings). Nothing felt made in house, all seemed previously frozen. With the KFC, I requested additional sweet & spicy sauce... that didn't happen and the sauce was more sweet than anything. Honestly, skip this place. When I walked in I exclusively told the staff that I had only tried korean bbq once and if they would be willing to help me understand the process, they said yes of course. Well after recommending the most expensive meats, pushing the most expensive side items, serving stale rice, and not helping us at all on the hot plate, I knew we had made a mistake. We ordered the wagyu, but it had to be of the lowest quality, basically inedible, and when we were told at the end of the meal that we would be charged for the extra food we did not eat, I was beside myself. Grill. Eat. Repeat. Such a delicious treat! I recently visited Gen Korean BBQ House on Chandler Blvd with a group of friends for their all-you-can-eat lunch special. Upon entering, the host greeted us warmly and promptly seated us at a table with a grill. At first, there were only a few customers, but the restaurant gradually became busy. The ambiance was cool and modern. Unfortunately, there were only a few servers working at that time, so we ended up waiting quite a while for our food. The delay was longer than we expected. We chose a variety of meats and side dishes from the menu. The choices were overwhelming. As soon as the orders started coming in, we began grilling. I had missed this "samgyeopsal" experience, something I often used to do with friends and family back then. The thinly sliced meats were fresh and flavorful, making it enjoyable to cook them right at our table. The seafood selection was my favorite part of the meal. It added variety to our feast and elevated the experience. I enjoyed the kimchi and pickled vegetables too and their glass noodles. By the end, we were absolutely stuffed! Although the service was slower than anticipated, we thoroughly enjoyed our time at Gen Korean BBQ House. I recommend this place for anyone looking to enjoy a fun Korean dining experience. read more

Been here twice and each time was such a disappointment. Rice was not fresh. You only get side dishes if you ask (and they forgot the second time). You will get charged for a soda refill. Waiter just chooses to repeat the same sentence over and over if you don't understand - and eventually I just shut up which was exactly what he wanted. The quality of the meat is so so poor. Do yourself a favor and go to Koreatown for an incredible experience. I will never go to Gen again. read more

I'm happy to be able to have Gen as my first Yelp review. I came in alone around 1:00pm due to an impulse craving - and because I knew it wouldn't be busy. Gen takes solo diners, but it's best to go during off-peak hours (like lunch) because it's not busy and it's considerate for bigger parties to dine in later in the day (they don't have small tables, usually for 2-4+/booths). I also called ahead to double check. I've been going to Gen for years. I used to go to the Tempe location but ever since they opened their Chandler location, I've been going here since it's closer. Every time I visit, the food is great and staff are friendly. I also appreciate how the manager makes her rounds around the restaurant to check in on guests because that consistency means a lot. Today, I had Ashley as my waitress and she was amazing! She checks in at perfect times and was on top of things for my table and her other tables too. My favorite things to get are the beef brisket (chadol), honey soy beef belly, the marinated galbi short ribs, and the garlic samgyubsal (pork belly). I could eat their galbi all day, and if you can cook it well, it's always exciting to indulge in. I tried their double dragon which is a recent, but limited-time addition to the menu. They're two types of deep-fried shrimp with tartar sauce. One is basically coconut shrimp with sweeter undertones, and other is like a classic fried shrimp moment with a bit of salt to balance the other out. I enjoyed the coconut shrimp, and the sea salt shrimp was okay - nothing to complain about. I believe my shrimp came out on the overcooked side which made it chewy and a little bit firm. Not an issue for me since I'm not picky but it can be for someone else. Despite the shrimp, this is not an issue since it doesn't represent the business as whole. Gen has been consistent in a majority of their services and food which is what matters, and I will be coming here with my friends/alone like usual. Thanks again for satiating my KBBQ cravings! Random tips: 1. If you're done with a plate with raw meat, or anything, put it on the edge of the table so the waitstaff can pick it up easier. If you go with a group of friends with a lot more dishes, it can be difficult to reach over a table with a bunch of stuff. 2. If you think you need a grill change, find a good place to stop cooking and clear the grill early. Not only will it be easier for the staff, it will also be easier for you since both parties won't have to be playing a juggling/balancing game with two grills. 3. Puh-lease get the galbi and try your best to not flip it so many times (1-2 times optimally). Leaving the marinated ribs long enough will make it caramelize and make an unbeatable flavor. Flip it too much and you'll interrupt the browning process. read more

I will say this place is a hit or miss, i've been in a few times and sometimes they have everything on the menu to order from and sometimes they don't have half of it. The last two times I went they didn't have a good amount of things, luckily the last time i went since they didn't have at least half of what we ordered the manager gave us a discount on the check. I'm so used to the Gens in Hawaii. I was eager to go back since it's been a couple years since I've been to Gens. We were seated right away at 6:30pm on a weekday. That's great! No wait, what a super surprise. But then we waited....and waited.... We put in our first round of just three different meats and the green salad. We received the salad right away. I didn't know we would have to order the banchan seperately so we just had lettuce for about 20 minutes. They didn't have the flat noodle wraps (they don't serve it anymore but it's on their menu) and they were apparently still defrosting the turnip. Weird. Never got a plate of turnip during our entire dinner. After the 20 minutes, our server came back and asked what we would like to order next. But we just said we haven't received our first order yet. She just reordered it. We got 2 of the 3 meats we ordered. And was still waiting on the brisket. We had to "reorder" it 3 times before it was brought to our table. After about 45 minutes since we first sat down, we finally were asked what else we wanted. We ordered three more things and 2 of the 3 had to be "reordered" multiple times. The server was apologetic, but she was rarely around, wasn't helpful, and half the time didn't have the food we ordered. Really subpar from what I'm used to. This is different than your typical bbq spot, and if you haven't been here before, you seriously need to bring a few friends and try it out! The meat cuts are quality, and the service is always really friendly. They won't hesitate to recommend something based on what you like, and there are some nice discounts for your little goblins if you want to bring them along. I recommend anything Wagyu, the Hawaiian steak, the spicy chicken, the hotteok, the kimchee fried rice, and the lychee soju. So good! And so fun- part of the charm is cooking the meats specifically to your liking. Plenty of space for groups, and they are really into helping you celebrate just about anything. I forgot there was a closer location to me. We were so excited to come here because it was much closer and afterwards we could shop at all the other Asian stores! We came during lunch time but on a weekend, we honestly thought it was going to be busier but there were a lot of tables left which is great for us, so we thought. Our server greeted us she seemed pretty nice, ask for our drinks we ordered a Dr Pepper and water then started ordering all of our foods. I had also asked for extra tongs... Our food came to the table but our drinks had not, we finally had a chance to flag down our server, and she said they didn't have Dr Pepper nor did she hear that we even wanted drinks LOL When we had her at the table we also asked for a physical menu because it was just easier to look at then scrolling through our phones trying to order everything. Our Korean Fried Chicken came out and it looked like disintegrated chicken, it was extremely crispy to the point where the chicken inside was dust and it was pretty burnt but sauce was poured over it, so hey at least it still had some good flavor. Stilling waiting for the physical menu to be brought over... The best thing that we ordered was the spicy pork bulgogi, Hawaiian bacon, and the spicy beef belly. I decided to give the fry cook a second chance and ordered the cheesy pork cutlet Katsu, that too was over burnt and the oil tasted terrible on it. Asked a manager how often they change their oil and he couldn't give me an exact answer, he thinks every couple of days. Server comes back we asked about the menu and she notices we took the tongs from the table next to us and she apologizes. Then she asked if we liked any of the fried stuff, so we had to show her how bad everything was and she also apologized. I asked for an order of japchae, it came out cut up into pieces with no flavor no veggies. It was disgusting. This used to be one of my favorite items to order. All in all the Saving Grace of this experience were the three meats I had listed previously, save your money for better service and better food at Manna. read more

I was looking for a kbbq and thìs was the only place that didn't have any wait time. Let me tell you why there's no wait time.. it's because the quality of the meat is horrendous. They piled each plate to prevent me to trying other horrendous meats, not sure if I should be angry or thank them for saving me from more disappointment. Each plate weighed like 5 lbs of meat so how can our stomach have any room to try any other meat. The meat came out warm and again piled high like a mountain of cattle bits. Don't get me on the appetizers, the japchae lacked color and flavor, the shrimp tempura and calimari was three times cooked to the point if no return. The only item tha they didn't mess up was the salad. My sister skipped the meat and had three servings of salad in order to fill her hungry belly. She came home to eat instant noodle. Came here Monday night with my two friends. The food was good, but what made our night was our amazing server, Averi. She made sure we were taken care of the entire time. No complaints at all. She made sure our grill was being changed and she even let us know what dessert they had at the end. She was honest and friendly and I would come back again just because of how good the service was. The menu clearly lists $20, so that was misleading from the start. We ordered two main dishes, two appetizers, and white rice -- which should've been simple, but even the rice was undercooked. The meat looked old and the Korean BBQ slices were paper thin. After just a couple of bites, we knew it wasn't worth the price. When we spoke to the manager, the best they could do was remove one meal from the bill, so we still ended up paying $50 total for food we didn't even take home. Overall, this was a disappointing experience. Poor food quality, misleading pricing, and unhelpful management. We won't be coming back -- save your money and eat elsewhere. read more

Oh, KBBQ, I love you soju much! I just realized that after coming to this second location, not all Gen Korean BBQ Houses are the same. While the food quality and portions are about the same as their Tempe location, they were out of a multitude of items like red wine pork belly, rice paper, daikon wraps, the house salad, pork cheeks, et cetera. While there isn't a maddening wait time like the Tempe location, you won't get to experience the full menu, so consider that when deciding which location you want to give your money to. Lots of space, no wait time, and the women's restroom only had one working stall. Also, during the weekends, this plaza gets busy, so have fun parking. read more

How do I even start this? This location is by far the best Gen KBBQ I've ever been to. Logan, Brian and Iris were amazing! From their stellar recommendations, genuine hospitality and just overall amazing vibes, this location has the perfect team. Everyone on staff is beyond friendly, and although they may seem to try and upsell you, it's for a good reason. I always get the strawberry capri soju, but Logan convinced me to try the JJAN house soju as well. The peach flavor is phenomenal, I wish I could have bought a case to bring home. I kid you not, these guys were the best. Super quick service, and again, just like the most laid back yet polite and friendly team. We went on a Sunday early evening for my birthday dinner and my god it was insane. Barely got refills on my drinks. Our brisket made it out after asking like 3-5 times at the end of our time. Which was freaking terrible because all my banchan was gone and they struggled to keep up with refilling things. Absolutely no rice paper what else is new. I feel like absolutely no Korean bbq place ever has it anymore which is so annoying because it's literally life changing. I thought i put on our reservation on Yelp that it was for my bday but i don't think they cared or asked why we had come in etc. not like i need a song.
