We were craving KBBQ and came here Friday for dinner ($30.99), and it was disappointing. The restaurant wasn't busy yet when we arrived. We ordered some apps and the KFC had barely any meat, mainly crispy breading. They also don't automatically give banchan/side dishes so that's very odd. You have to order those separately. They didn't have rice paper either so we opted for radish paper. We ordered the thinly sliced brisket (chadol) and it was very chewy and not thin. Only the galbi was good. Aside from food, the music was extremely loud and it was difficult to hear anyone speak. Our service was good and they changed our grill often. I would say 1 star but the service moved it to 2.

Decided to treat the family after a special occasion event. We've frequent before, but it had been about 6+ months. It used to be very easy to come in and order, but over the years it's gotten complicated. Same thing the night we came, trying to figure out items from the different costing menus is a challenge. Even the à la carte items through me for a loop. Keep in mind, the ENTIRE table has to do the same thing, so make sure you all agree beforehand. Service was a hit/miss. The manager who jumped in a few times was helpful along with the food delivers. Our host and server, seem distracted. We ordered a few things from the kitchen (Korean Fried Chicken, pot stickers, & calamari rings). Nothing felt made in house, all seemed previously frozen. With the KFC, I requested additional sweet & spicy sauce... that didn't happen and the sauce was more sweet than anything. Pleasant surprise, the music playlist. Best thing we ate that night was the Beef Bulgogi, Gen Premium Steak & Spicy Calamari. Most of the other items were okay. I tend to stay away from chicken items as cooking tends to take longer. Timing is key when you're cooking at the table. We realized we need some additional utensils (for Raw & Cooked foods), seasoning, and more. It should have been at the table to start, but requesting it was hard to get. Same thing when it came to ordering. Some items would come out really fast, while others I realized were a miss by our server to check on with the kitchen. Even after unloading freshly raw food, it was hit or miss with someone coming by to clear things. Grill changes were good, as was getting drink refills. Experience definitely could of been much better.

Decided to try again.. our server was a lot less nervous this time. She was extremely nice and attentive! I believe her name was Anthu, hopefully I spelled it correctly.. We sat at a different table. No fires!!! The same manager was there from last time... They play modern music and at one point they were playing Corridos!!! My type of music , loved it! P.S get the marinated Wagyu! Juicy!!!

This place was great. Great deal for lunch all you can eat. $21.99 with 33 different dishes to choose from. The drink was great, and the food selection and meat was amazing! Will be back again!

Great food and a cool ambiance. Eat to the beat of catchy music. Service is good but when it gets busy you have to have a little patience. The plaza is cool so if there's a wait you have plenty to do. Recommend the Hawaiian steak.

Grill. Eat. Repeat. Such a delicious treat! I recently visited Gen Korean BBQ House on Chandler Blvd with a group of friends for their all-you-can-eat lunch special. Upon entering, the host greeted us warmly and promptly seated us at a table with a grill. At first, there were only a few customers, but the restaurant gradually became busy. The ambiance was cool and modern. Unfortunately, there were only a few servers working at that time, so we ended up waiting quite a while for our food. The delay was longer than we expected. We chose a variety of meats and side dishes from the menu. The choices were overwhelming. As soon as the orders started coming in, we began grilling. I had missed this "samgyeopsal" experience, something I often used to do with friends and family back then. The thinly sliced meats were fresh and flavorful, making it enjoyable to cook them right at our table. The seafood selection was my favorite part of the meal. It added variety to our feast and elevated the experience. I enjoyed the kimchi and pickled vegetables too and their glass noodles. By the end, we were absolutely stuffed! Although the service was slower than anticipated, we thoroughly enjoyed our time at Gen Korean BBQ House. I recommend this place for anyone looking to enjoy a fun Korean dining experience.

(From top to bottom) Honey soy beef belly, beef brisket, double dragon, galbi.

I'm happy to be able to have Gen as my first Yelp review. I came in alone around 1:00pm due to an impulse craving - and because I knew it wouldn't be busy. Gen takes solo diners, but it's best to go during off-peak hours (like lunch) because it's not busy and it's considerate for bigger parties to dine in later in the day (they don't have small tables, usually for 2-4+/booths). I also called ahead to double check. I've been going to Gen for years. I used to go to the Tempe location but ever since they opened their Chandler location, I've been going here since it's closer. Every time I visit, the food is great and staff are friendly. I also appreciate how the manager makes her rounds around the restaurant to check in on guests because that consistency means a lot. Today, I had Ashley as my waitress and she was amazing! She checks in at perfect times and was on top of things for my table and her other tables too. My favorite things to get are the beef brisket (chadol), honey soy beef belly, the marinated galbi short ribs, and the garlic samgyubsal (pork belly). I could eat their galbi all day, and if you can cook it well, it's always exciting to indulge in. I tried their double dragon which is a recent, but limited-time addition to the menu. They're two types of deep-fried shrimp with tartar sauce. One is basically coconut shrimp with sweeter undertones, and other is like a classic fried shrimp moment with a bit of salt to balance the other out. I enjoyed the coconut shrimp, and the sea salt shrimp was okay - nothing to complain about. I believe my shrimp came out on the overcooked side which made it chewy and a little bit firm. Not an issue for me since I'm not picky but it can be for someone else. Despite the shrimp, this is not an issue since it doesn't represent the business as whole. Gen has been consistent in a majority of their services and food which is what matters, and I will be coming here with my friends/alone like usual. Thanks again for satiating my KBBQ cravings! Random tips: 1. If you're done with a plate with raw meat, or anything, put it on the edge of the table so the waitstaff can pick it up easier. If you go with a group of friends with a lot more dishes, it can be difficult to reach over a table with a bunch of stuff. 2. If you think you need a grill change, find a good place to stop cooking and clear the grill early. Not only will it be easier for the staff, it will also be easier for you since both parties won't have to be playing a juggling/balancing game with two grills. 3. Puh-lease get the galbi and try your best to not flip it so many times (1-2 times optimally). Leaving the marinated ribs long enough will make it caramelize and make an unbeatable flavor. Flip it too much and you'll interrupt the browning process.

Second time is a charm! Service was great, server was very helpful. This has became a new favorite place.

Good food & wide variety of choices! I will say this place is a hit or miss, i've been in a few times and sometimes they have everything on the menu to order from and sometimes they don't have half of it. The last two times I went they didn't have a good amount of things, luckily the last time i went since they didn't have at least half of what we ordered the manager gave us a discount on the check. Clean & nice restaurant, only complaint is how they don't keep the meat stocked.

    Lychee soju
    Tara A.

This is different than your typical bbq spot, and if you haven't been here before, you seriously need to bring a few friends and try it out! The meat cuts are quality, and the service is always really friendly. They won't hesitate to recommend something based on what you like, and there are some nice discounts for your little goblins if you want to bring them along. I recommend anything Wagyu, the Hawaiian steak, the spicy chicken, the hotteok, the kimchee fried rice, and the lychee soju. So good! And so fun- part of the charm is cooking the meats specifically to your liking. Plenty of space for groups, and they are really into helping you celebrate just about anything. Don't sink into FOMO, give it a try! We'll be back! ;)

Music is always on pointe and I would never change the look or ambiance of the place either. My last trip here though I had to ask about why the menu had stopped changing as often since we were one of two parties there in the middle of happy hour and there was a large framed picture of a bartender with a bunch of signed notes on the bottom of it beside me at the bar. It turns out that one of the oldest curators and bartenders of the bar and restaurant had passed from a drunk driving incident and I had not known at all! Gosh I was so disappointed in myself that I had ever complained about not having a new menu to try after that...but at the same time it was amazing to hear so many great anecdotes and to learn so much more about him and the history of the bar itself while dining this time. I had a lot of fun times at this bar - including remembering the first time I met that bartender and sharing that memory with the staff that told me their story. They also shared that they would be coming out with a new menu very soon and some of the new items and ideas that would be rolling out so I am also very excited to go back! We ordered the Beef & Chicken BBQ Plate, Nishikawa Black Ramen, Curry Ramen, Chicken Katsu Curry, and a Musubi. Every single dish was fantastic. The staff was incredibly friendly and even let me sample the Tonkotsu ramen broth after we ordered. After trying it, I honestly wish I had ordered that ramen--it was outstanding! The restaurant itself was also impressive. The dining area was open, clean, and inviting, making for a very comfortable experience. My only criticism would be the pork chashu. While it was tender, it was a bit plain and could use more seasoning or flavor to match the rest of the dishes, which were excellent. Overall, this was a great experience from start to finish.
