I recently discovered Chompies while going out to eat with some extended family members, and I have to say, I am thoroughly impressed! I have now had breakfast and dinner there and both meals were incredible. The vibe is very family friendly, laid back, and welcoming and the staff are kind. And the MENU! There are so many options-it would be impossible for someone to not find something they like. I particularly love their bagels and the onion and chive cream cheese-it was to die for. Fresh, creamy-perfection! Their pastrami and corned beef sandwhichs on Jewish Rye bread are also great options. Good portion sizes and very filling. And, we can't forget the dessert! They have a fun bakery counter with tons of cookies and treats-we love the Lace cookies and shortbread cookies. Highly recommend coming here! read more

Since I moved away from the Valley, I've missed my Chompie stops! We usually visit for breakfast or Friday fish and chips. So this was a chance to try their soup and slider combo! I had the mushroom beef and barley soup and selected the Original Jewish slider (brisket, potato latke and gravy) and the New Jersey (pastrami, Swiss, thousand island and slaw). Both on yummy challah buns. Very filling and yummy. My husband had the sweet and sour cabbage soup, the Western slider (brisket, bbq sauce, onion straws) and the New Jersey. Great service, reliable food, and a yummy deli case. We got two of the honey bran muffins to go! And we are happy campers! read more

Worst Service Ever! Little miss attitude and I want to disappear caused us to walk out. Greeted pleasantly by a young man at the door who immediately took us to our table. As we sat down and before even getting seated the server appears wanting our drink order. You could plainly see that when we asked for a minute to get settled in, that this annoyed her and we never saw her again. Waited 10 minutes and left to eat somewhere else read more

So so awesome!!!!!!!! Best comfort food I have found in ages! The grilled tuna melt reminded me of my Gram's and they have actual jojos instead of fries. The jojos were super fresh and nothing like you'd ever find in a deli! Lucinda was perfect and friendly, as well as informative without being over bearing. Service was prompt and great. The environment is comfy and the benches for the booths are actually wide enough for a pregnant momma to fit in comfortably. I can't recommend this place enough!!! read more

I asked if my breakfast burrito could be made without ham (I am vegetarian). I was told it was no problem to make it that way. I also asked it to be made enchilada style, which was an option on their menu for that item. It was stuffed full of ham. I'm not a complainer so at first I attempted to pick out the ham, but they were very generous with it. It was impossible to pick out. Also, "enchilada style" apparently means putting two slices of melted cheese on top. My definition is to put enchilada sauce on top. I let this point go. I told the waiter I don't mean to complain but I had asked for no ham in it. She took it back to the kitchen and a few minutes later gave me another one and said the cook "checked twice this time." I cut into it and . . . . it was STILL full of ham. Not even just a forgotten piece, but FULL of ham. The attached photo is of the insides of the second burrito. I doubted myself and thought maybe they were just tomatoes, but nope, the pink stuff in the photo is 90% ham with a few bits of tomatoes. The waiter apologized and gave me a $2.99 discount on my bill. I got to enjoy the fries for breakfast. At least those were good. *Note: this was my first visit to Chompie's for several years, because the last time I went I bought a cream-filled pastry on the way out and ate it in the car. about an hour later I had projectile vomiting. I swore off this place but thought I'd give it another chance since my friend wanted to meet there for breakfast. This was my last visit. read more

The food was so delicious and traditional. I've never had a knish with gravy but they paired nicely. I wish they had given us a side of applesauce or sour cream with the latkes but I think they forgot it. The soup was also yummy. The bakery is the best part here though. Their black and white cookies are amazing and a must order. We ordered the food for pick up and the bakery you order in person. Always a solid place to stop for a nosh. read more

I would so wish I could rate this location higher. The host is rude and he quoted a very long wait with open tables. I watched while at least five people walked out. As good as the food may or may not be this location has forgotten that restaurants are a service business. When walking in the door and you are treated like this is a good recipe for going out of business. I hope the manager corrects this behavior before that happens. I have always experienced great service at other location, but maybe avoid chandler until they fix their staff issues. We decided to stay but arrived at 12:30 and did not get the check until 2:45. Food was okay but very slow to seat and very slow out of the kitchen. read more

Great service from the waitress! She was very attentive and nice with lots of patience for me. I was craving a burger and I was not paying attention to what I was ordering. I ordered a country fried steak and I honestly don't like that. I let the waitress know and I told her I was very sorry because it was my fault, and what I thought I was having was a regular ground beef patty. She was kind enough to update my order and brought out a beef patty. I was very surprised at how nice and understanding she was. However the food itself was not appetizing. The hamburger patty was not seasoned at all and the texture was like rubber. I was able to eat all my fries, because those were very good and were possible homemade fries, but I left hungry. I am glad the waitress was kind and helpful, but unfortunately the food was not a reason I would come back. read more

what a horrible experience my first time at Chadler (Frye Rd) and craving NY-Jewish deli style food on Mother's Day. My daughter's chicken sandwich had a bug in the lettuce that fell out of her sandwich. Their smoked salmon Tapas says Nova Lox which is false advertising as the waitress said they grill their lox (whaat?) and so is the word "generous portion" as the salmon (lox) was actually little flakes of cooked salmon on latkes--the tomato cucumber and onion on top reminded me of Mexican salsa fresca. I will never return to this dirty place--my booth has so much trash on the floor it was gross to sit in it. Even though they comped both our plates the truth needs to be told about this place that lies about their menu items and lacks diligence in food prep. read more

Chompies has been our favorite breakfast spot for several years. We took our grandkids there as a treat a few days ago and they seem to be facing the same challenges that many restaurants are facing post COVID. Many places are short staffed on the floor and in the kitchen. Our server was great and very attentive despite the fact that she had many more tables than usual. All of the meals came out at the same time-great! The food was just fair. The hash browns ( which we all ordered)' were over cooked and past "crunchy". The potatoes were cold, hard and uniformly over done- a first for us there. The eggs were good and bagels-always great. It wasn't crowded and we were seated right away. The only reason I rated them a 4 instead of a 5 is because they lack gluten free breakfast options ( other than a plain bagel). My granddaughter would have loved to have had pancakes which weren't an option. The gorgeous baked goods case is devoid of gf options-a shame because there are some yummy items there! I recognize that gluten free food prep has to have a dedicated space so there isn't cross contamination. People with celiacs want choices too! We do plan to return to try it again without the children but we really appreciate restaurants that have a more inclusive menu! read more

I got one of their signature dishes the Jewish Sliders, and was disappointed all of the brisket was very fatty and iridescent colored throughout . Why did the kitchen even bother to put it on the sandwich and send it out? Idk. I didn't say anything to our waitress, but i definitely didn't take any food home and will probably not be going back. The only good thing was the challah bread they used on the sliders, it's too bad it wasn't a good cut of meat with it. read more

They started charging for everything they can . I went to get the Italian cookies for New Year's Eve celebration and I bought two pre packaged boxes. To my great disappointment they were stale and the chocolate cookies were stuck together. They obviously were horrible and couldn't be enjoyed. Terrible after taste. My advice is to buy from the case not ones that have been pre packaged. Or better yet go to Costco for your bakery read more

We were fairly impressed. Stopped for lunch after a costco expedition. Possibly the best chicken sandwich I have had in a long time. We had the dog and wanted to sit outside. The menu was a little odd with liver and onions and beef tongue among the entrees. Never see those things and not something I want but maybe other people do and possibly its an east coast franchise... We had to order to go because there was no service outside but that was OK. Also wanted a margarita outside where there was no service and they had to ask the owner, David. He said OK and I met him. it was a nice lunch in the shade. Margarita was a little too sweet so I'd suggest changing the mix ingredients but otherwise we will be back. read more

Definitely want to give a shout out to this place! How have I never been here before!? Went in just to get a bagel and to my surprise it was so much more! Stop was very friendly and very welcoming! I didn't realize that it was also a restaurant and also had a bar as well. I told the girls this was my first time and I couldn't believe I have never been in here before. They were very quick to give me some samples of their delicious cookies and The breakfast sandwich on a bagel was 10 out of 10! Definitely will be back again! read more

We've been to Chompie's several times around Phoenix. I do not think we will return to this location. The food was good. I had the pastrami sandwich on rye. My husband had the corn beef hash and eggs. The hash was brown in color--we think it wasn't that fresh, but my husband thought it tasted okay. The reason why I'm writing a review at all is because the restrooms were atrociously dirty. The metal toilet paper and seat cover dispensers were filthy with a layer of dirt (not dust) which indicated the stalls had not been seriously cleaned in a long time. My husband said the men's room was just as bad. It made me wonder what the cleanliness of the kitchen must be like. Also, like a previous reviewer stated, there were a lot of people standing around not doing much--including the manager. Hmmm, maybe do some cleaning? read more

Coulda swore I was in New York while eating at Chompie's. Chompie's will always be there for you. They won't play loud music. They won't have a 45 minute wait. They won't shift to some kind of weird food truck only format. They'll be ready to seat you and serve you. Chompie's: the restaurant that never sleeps ammiirrittee?!?! We are at chompies this weekend since we haven't ate here in a year or so, the patio weather was amazing and everything on the menu looked delicious. I was just so confused on why it wasn't. The food is kind of mushy, my Dave's deli Benedict which I asked for extra hot was really the opposite, the slice of Swiss cheese came out in perfect shape on the Benedict and it looked unappealing. Our food sat heavy and unfinished. I don't necessarily feel this same way about the deli since you can grab a bagel-and-go but the dine-in restaurant was my families last time. read more

This is by far one of my top two or three favorite breakfast restaurants I've ever been to. It is so good that even how amazing the lunch and deli menu is I still have to get breakfast every time. The corned beef hash skillet is the best! They also have some of the most amazing New York deli style sandwiches and other meals. They have an amazing assortment of desserts and cookies and bread in the lobby that are to die for as well. read more

Mahfam recommended a different cheese for us to try and it was excellent so we got half a pound. Hubby ended up loving her recommendation even more than the other two. Mahfam knows her cheese! They also offer gourmet charcuterie boards plus sandwiches and salads. This is just a very cool little place to discover new cheeses, and gourmet goodies and leave with something you didn't know you needed. I asked for no lettuce, and she joked that "people don't want lettuce anymore." Given the recent news surrounding Taylor Farms, that comment didn't exactly inspire confidence. What really surprised me was that the pastrami was placed in a plastic basket and microwaved. Whether or not it's considered safe, seeing food heated that way wasn't very appetizing. Looking around, there also didn't appear to be any real kitchen equipment for preparing hot sandwiches beyond a microwave. A Blackstone griddle or even a quality countertop oven would have inspired much more confidence in the food, especially considering the owner's Yelp responses emphasizing the quality of their sandwiches. From what I experienced, the preparation didn't match those claims. In the end, we ordered just one pastrami sandwich and one beer, and the total came to about $25, with the sandwich alone costing over $17. For that price, I expected much better ingredients and preparation. Unfortunately, the quality didn't match the cost. We tried to be as nice as possible but we left feeling pretty disappointed and couldn't wait to get out of there.

Just moved to the valley and me and my husband chose to go here as our first morning out and we couldn't have asked for a better time! Lucy was our server and she was the sweetest server ever but the young man was busting his butt! I believe his name was Evan or Ethan but he was sooooo kind, he sat us asking how our days were and he gave us some recommendations of where to go and what to do for some family activities. He even checked on us regularly to see how everything was and was even there to say bye on our way out! Food was delicious and came out quick. How could you not love this place? There is just so much good stuff to choose from. I love the fact that they're trying to compete with Applebee's and Chili's by doing the 2 for $22 dinner deal. You get a better selection of entrees and desserts for this deal. Chompie's food is 100 times better than either of the other 2. I get so frustrated with Chompies. They have so much potential but the restaurant is dirty, the help is awful and it is like they don't care about the customer. The service is slow, the servers have no idea what they are doing or anything about what they are trying to sell. The food is fair and could be a lot better. Their prices are still good...typically on the lower side of their competitors for the half sandwich. The shop itself is just the right size- seating for about 20-30 people tops, one of the mini Coke Freestyle machines and a small shaded patio (overlooking fake wilted plants in the common area...so strange). Overall, this Planet Sub location is a solid lunch spot.

Still never received another refill, instead brought out check. -the absolute worst part was the fact she asked what we were celebrating, and we told her my sons 18th Bday. She said Happy Birthday and then thru the course of our dinner she never realized that his entree never came out. We were all finished eating and she finally came to our table. Other servers or runners brought out our food and we didn't see our server until the very end. She stops by at the end and asks us if we need anything. I apologize and tell her that my son hasn't received his entree. Instead of even remotely apologizing. She says that's weird cause I know I put it in. 3 minutes later brings his entree thats been sitting under a heat lamp for 15-20 minutes. Pasta just stuck together, dry chicken, dry mash. My son doesn't even eat his entree but the server asks us if we want a box??? No I didn't want a box, I asked if we could just cancel his entree versus bringing out dead food. My son then asks about his diet coke again, she says oh let me go get that! Of course he still doesn't receive his refill. I was so upset I couldn't even ask for a manager. Not a single apology for ruining what should have been an awesome celebration. My son personally picked Cheesecake Factory and we were all so excited to try it. Instead an absolutely ruined birthday dinner. Paid $245 for a family of 5 and my son couldn't get his entree until we were all 90-95% dine eating. Couldn't tell our waitress because she never checked on us after 2 minutes or 2 bites. So disappointing, I have never written to corporate in my 51 yrs. The absolute worst experience I've ever had. So disappointing to spend a family Birthday dinner like this!! I would 100% like a reply in regards to my complaint above. This level of service is completely unacceptable.

My review is from before they made drastic changes to their food options…read more My wife and I had a summer tradition going. Every other week we were coming in to get a big fresh salad made for her and a wrap with bacon for me. Both were so filling and delicious and we loved our pattern. The last time we visited, however, they completely changed their menus - getting rid of all of their big salads and their wraps and sandwiches. Everything is a pizza now. Totally different vibe and we will likely not be back except to check and see if they have re-added the items which we were accustomed to. We have been to several Scheels and eaten in their Ginna's as well. We were saddened to hear that the menu changes were across all of their stores. We are hoping it is a temporary or seasonal change. If not, we will still shop at Scheels, but we will take our food dollars elsewhere.

The amount of food you get for your order is superb. I have taken this salad home for second meal…read moretwice now. The service is always with a smile, and the whole thing was made in front of me, so I could see all of the ingredients and they are fresh and made to order. The restaurant area seats a lot of people, it seems small but in reality it is really great for families and a quick lunch if you prefer. I love coming in to eat. We've brought our little niece and family several times, I should have reviewed ages ago. Great service, will return!
