There's two reasons restaurants stay open DESTINATION LOCATION As In; They're so amazing they've become a DESTINATION They're remarkably unremarkable...marginal to mediocre...at best...but their saving grace is a LOCATION is so unique it's almost impossible for them to fail This establishment is the latter, while my beef egg roll was ok--in that classic Chinese/fast food takeout sense, my entree --the General Tso's Beef...was a profound & pricey disappointment, the meat was coated shredded/slivers reminiscent of orange beef but with way less flavor and needing way way more chewing than any shredded/slivered beef dish I've ever tried. The fried rice that accompanied it complimented it perfectly as it was every bit as uninspired...starting with a texture that was waxy oily almost plasticy...maybe it's the rice they use or maybe it's what they use to actually make it. In any case while they got the color on the lighter side of "right", everything else about it brought to mind the "fried rice" cooks in camp and yeshiva would whip up to show us hoe multi-cultural their culinary skills were--even tho fried rice...like most Chinese Restaurant "staples" was actually created here--a fact I discovered during my last trip to China when I was at an event and one of the chefs asked me why I wasn't eating...my response turned into a discussion about kosher and THAT morphed into a discussion about Jews & Chinese food which culminated in our discussion about "real" vs "American" Chinese food...which brought back memories of Chef Leon of ShangChai in Bklyn & his annual family & friends Chinese New Year's party. As the guest list included Leon's "lansleit" the menu featured both ShangChai classics and Leon's "hometown favorites" most of which were amazing and 180 degrees from the Chinese food we were used to, After stuffing my face to capacity, I complimented Leon on everything and asked him why none of this awesomely amazing stuff with unpronounceable names and unbelievable flavor ever made its way to the menu. All I got in response was that look Tito the bandleader gives Max Kellerman at the end of DirtyDancing when Max asks Tito "if he has sheet music for this stuff" Sorry about the detour but disappointing Chinese food does that to me...anyway, now back to our regularly scheduled review When our entrees first arrived all it took was one taste for me to reach out to our server and point out everything I just shared with you here in Yelpland Rather than attempting some sort of make good or even a mild apology, our server shrugged in a manner that brings the term "polite indifference" to mind...which i guess could be the way to go when most of your clientele are college kids Aside from my profoundly unimpressive meal, I found myself wondering if the chicken in their General Tso's chicken was prepared in a similar shredded/slivered manner and served only when its texture brought to mind that salami you left drying in your garage so long even that even your dog took a pass the on it. Knowing General Tso, I could easily see him court-martialing the personal chef with the temerity to name what I was eating after his boss In case you're wondering, I'm not living in a vacuum, As the father of 3 MTA and 2 YU graduates, it's hardly the first time I've um "dined" in the area, tho as kosher dining standards have changed in the last few decades, you can no longer count on an amazing location as a reason to compromise on quality...that's why I'm hoping their menu is full of stuff that's more destination level than disappointing... This is absolutely the best Chinese food I've had in years. The dim sum was beautifully prepared, light and delicate. We ordered Cashew Chicken and Beef with Baby Corn as well. As a lovely treat, they included a Thai Basil fried rice that was amazing. Thank you for a memorable meal. read more

This is not my usual place to eat. Starving in Washington Heights, closest option for kosher near me. Tables aren't clean, the portions are very small. Bigger portions available at higher rates. Was a bit upset I didn't get the crunch and extra spicy mayo that I asked for in the description even though I would have happily paid for it. The pad Thai was pretty good as well as well. When I called for a refund, the owner hollered at me and then demanded that I repackage the food so they could take it back and give it to someone else. So beware what you're eating from there. Food sucked. Ordered Sesame chicken and tasted nothing like sesame chicken. Was very overcooked and chewy. Wings had so much feathers on them and looked like old meat because they were dark in color and dark around the bones. Scallion pancakes had barely any scallions on them. At the for 1st time today. Order Kung Pao Chicken the food was served pretty quickly and the sauce tasted decent but the chicken meat it self was/is questionable. I don't know if the meat was not fresh or not actual chicken but I know it DID NOT TASTE like chicken! I couldn't stand to stomach eat more then 2 bites and through the rest out! I ordered from here and I have no complaints with the delivery, it worked out just fine. I ordered 3 rolls for around $20, but be warned the rolls are veeeery small and snack-size. It's hard to make a decent meal out of that, and for such a price there's much better options around the area. Food itself was okay but quite bland and forgettable. The cardinal sin of any restaurant is to forget an item for delivery or pickup. To forget 4 sushi rolls, the main meals for people is intolerable. We thought we had found a perfect place. Somewhere that could accommodate the Kosher needs of some family members as well as the Gluten Free needs of some others. Driving down to the city from Westchester, we stopped here for pickup. We asked the counter person "are you sure everything is here" and doubled checked the order, verbally. We should have checked it visually! Once we got to our destination (almost 100 blocks south) we were stunned to find ALL the sushi missing! We immediately called and they said our sushi was here. What horrible customer service. Shouldn't they have realized it was still there? How about calling the phone number on the order when you saw a bag sitting there for 45 mins! We were kept on hold for a full five minutes. No offer of delivery. Just and offer of a restaurant credit. No way, I demanded an immediate credit back to my credit card. They should have compd the entire meal. This place needs to brush up on their customer service but when they have such a captive audience... I guess they could care less. read more

Now I'm sure Chop Chop will get tons of play because they're across the street from Yeshiva and possibly the only Kosher Chinese food in the area, but that shouldn't be their metric for success. When I went to Chop Chop, the staff was impolite and brusk. I can forgive that because, hey, it's NYC. What I can't forgive is bland food at ridiculous prices. I paid $9.99 for bean curd w/ green veggies that they lovingly call "Emerald Tofu". (Nevermind the fact that they charge almost $10 for a lunch special in NYC is unheard of.) Now, "Emerald Tofu" is really a few hunks of unseasoned, steamed tofu with tons of veggies in an uncharacteristically flavorless brown sauce. It wasn't salty, gingery, garlicky, soy-y, onion-y or any of the amazing things you taste with your basic brown sauce from a Chinese restaurant. It literally tasted like thickened water. Wow. Really not getting the negativity here. Been here many times and ordered delivery here many times. Always great experiences. First of all the food is the best non-fancy Chinese I've had. Beats out everyone, even my hometown favorite Annie's Kitchen. This is both the Chinese food and the Sushi (No fellow Joos, Sushi is not Chinese food). They have some very cool Sushi options, like the Cajun variety, that you won't find anywhere else. The rolls are thick and tasty. In regard to the Chinese food itself, each item I've tried has been very tasty and fairly priced. Matthew, the super friendly manager, also assured me they use as little oil as possible in their Chinese food, because of his aversion to the pounds and pounds they used in his time working at Eden Wok. While Chinese food isn't healthy, it's nice to know they're doing their best. Service in store is usually decent, but when Matthew is around, it's awesome.Delivery has always been on time, and hot, for me. I love Chop Chop, and you should too. read more

It took 1 hour and 15 minutes for my food to arrive. That's not a typo or an exaggeration. I have the time stamps to prove it. When it DID arrive, it was luke warm. And we all know Chinese food is not as good luke warm, cold or reheated. And yet, that was the state of my food. So it's hard to review the quality of the food because of this. I will try though. The orange chicken seemed like it would have been amazing if it were still hot, the garlic broccoli was lackluster, the white rice was not plentiful and average, the miso soup was good. When I called to complain, they gave me an excuse that they were very busy. OK, but so what? This is NYC and you are a Chinese delivery restaurant. Figure it out. I didn't get a courtesy call to say my food would take double the time to reach me, a credit for one of the items I ordered...nothing but a lame excuse. I had also specifically said in my notes AND clicked the button for not having plastic serving ware, napkins, etc. delivered to me...but there they were in the bag anyway. The whole experience left much to be desired as I ate my reheated, not-so-great food, which wasn't cheap by the way, like a starving animal after waiting that long. "Chop Chop" is a funny phrase which I use to tell people to hurry up...ironic that this is the name of their business. read more

Wonderful experience today with Chop Chop. I ordered delivery and paid in cash. A few minutes later, I heard the delivery guy knocking at my door, saying he wanted to talk to me. I thought he was going to ask me for a bigger tip, but he showed me that I mistakenly gave him $40 instead of $21 - I gave him an extra $20 bill instead of a $1, and he wanted to give me my money back since he didn't want me to overpay. He could have easily kept it and not said a word, but he did the right thing. Very nice. read more

This place is great and the people are lovely. I love the sesame beef, but I'm here mostly to praise the beef dumplings. I admittedly haven't had many meat dumplings because I keep kosher, but these are far and away the best beef dumplings I've had!! read more

The food is always good but i had a strange encounter with the delivery man today. I ordered on seamless and I had paid for a tip for the driver on the app and when i went to the door I said thanks so much and held my hand out to accept the food and he wouldn't give it to me and said "you gave a tip?" And I said yea I did on the seamless app. And he said "well on the receipt from the restaurant it's not there". I reiterated again i have a tip on the app like i always do. Then he gave me the food. I just found this behavior rather unprofessional it left a bad feeling with me. I live right near the restaurant and always give a tip and he was hesitant to give me the food until I told him I gave a tip. I just thought it was rather rude kind of acting like i can't receive the food bc i didn't "pay for it". Whenever i order on an app it never shows up on the restaurant receipt so I'm not sure what was up with this guy. Other than that the food is always good! read more

Ordered sweet and sour chicken with rice. Rice had no flavor but that was acceptable since we just poured the sweet and sour sauce over EVERYTHING. It was delicious. I hate leaving a low rating review but here goes. Food prices are way too high which are misleading since the food is mediocre at best. Ordered the general tso's tofu with vegetable fried rice, vegetable dumplings, and scallion pancakes. The tofu was greasy and bland. The vegetable dumplings were gross. The vegetable fried rice had no vegetable and tiny minuscule egg pieces. The portions were tiny. Maybe the Sushie is where it's at for this spot but I will not be ordering from here again. read more
