My go-to Chinese restaurant in the Washington Heights area. I am extremely picky with where I get Chinese food from. I had a specific place in Brooklyn and in the Lower East Side and Lotus Express is my spot uptown. I've tried just about everything from here to the usual chicken wings and fries to the healthier options along with shrimp options. Food is always cooked perfectly and is packaged extremely well. Meal was cooked fast and tasted great. Reasonable prices. Restaurant might be a little hard to miss because its very small. Has a window seat that sits one person at best if you want to stay for your meal. This is your typical hood Chinese spot. Pick up and go or order delivery. This was the worst meal I have ever gotten from any neighborhood Chinese/American restaurant, and I have gotten a lot of Chinese /American meals over the years. I think there has been a change of owners. I just ordered the wings with pork fried rice, and whereas before the rice had plenty of onions, scallions, and bean sprouts, now it's yellow rice with scattered pieces of roast pork. The food & prices are very good compare to many other places i have ordered from. What i love here is that the rice is always fresh it doesn't seem re used or old oil. The food also arrived in in less than 25 minutes. The only thing i would say is that I wish they would tell you that garlic shrimp also comes with vegetables all mixed broccoli i'm all for but it also includes (corn, mushrooms etc..) in i think they should give you an option whether you want that all mixed in. Lotus is our go to Chinese joint in Inwood. As others have said, the fried pork dumplings are AWESOME. Even the sauce they serve with the dumplings is good, not some generic all-purpose Chinese sauce. The hot and sour soup is excellent. Just the right balance of hot and sweet, plenty of tofu. We've tried a lot of the other dishes and have never been disappointed. Except for one time when my wife ordered steamed green beans. That's all, just steamed green beans. The ever-reliable Lotus Express is Inwood's best Chinese restaurant. Don't be fooled by anyone else claiming otherwise. You may find prices better somewhere else (although I doubt it), but you won't find better service, better food and faster delivery. The best things on the menu: -Cheese Wontons (a steal at $4.50 for 8) -Pork Fried Rice -Steamed Chicken with either broccoli or string beans, with sauce on the side (a pint for only $5.20!) -Sweet and Sour Chicken This is no-frills Chinese delivery at its best. This is my 2nd stop in this eatery. Good, good, good. I was at the GW greyhound one night and did a quick search for Chinese food. This place came up and a quick venture further uptown proved to not to disappoint. My favorite is the shrimp and broccoli from the steamed menu. Delicious #1 and Fresh#2. I have never had such good tasting Chinese that the next day tastes just as good. This spot is off the chain good. The space is big enough for order and quick wait. Don't even think about ordering form this dump so called Chinese food. Just had an order earlier today & never thought this would happen. Wish I can give this rating a 0 but 1 it is. First of all they forgot to bring a soup I ordered. When I called back the owner (don't know his name), said he would send someone. However when the delivery guy was near he called me to say he wasn't going upstairs thinking I live in a project. I explained it's a coop (private) building with security si No he should fear. The owner then called to say I needed to go down stairs to get the item. I asked why if it wasn't my fault this was on their end. All of a sudden this idiot decided to start yelling claiming he already mentioned I had to go downstairs. So no I told him "it's your right to acknowledge your mistake, pay attention to your orders & be responsible". Lastly, the worse. When I opened one of the orders (sesame chicken), there some pieces of hair on the edge. Please! DONT SPEND YOUR MONEY ON THIS PLACE. Go or order somewhere else. I've been in Inwood for close to five months now, and I had yet to try any Chinese places. Back in WaHi, I was pretty loyal to my precious No. 1 Chinese Restaurant on 181st, and I had seen Lotus Express diagonal from my street corner. I wasn't quite ready to break up with my former Chinese spot after four plus years together, even if the relationship had become long distance. (Read = 21 blocks away.) Last night, the beau wanted Chinese and offered to pick it up at Lotus. I obliged, asked him to get me my typical "safe" meal (chicken and broccoli with brown rice), plus some dumplings. Folks, let me tell you: these dumplings rival some of the best I've had in Chinatown! The beau said he talked to the owner, who claims to make the dumplings (and EAT the dumplings) every single day. After the first bite, I was in love! The meat was tender with little flecks of onions and scallions. Had I not already been stuffed with half of my entree, I could have eaten all 8 by myself. The chicken and broccoli was pretty damn good itself, and the owner was nice enough to through in two free egg rolls and an extra Sprite. I found my Inwood spot for Chinese! So pleased! read more

One of the better Chinese takeout in the area here. However I'd stay clear of the authentic Chinese dishes such as Szechuan chicken. Not because its not good, but because its something else. Food is very good here actually. I ordered Szechuan chicken and all it was just chicken with broccoli that was just a tad more spicy. It was good nevertheless. All other typical Chinese food is very good here and I will stick to that primarily. I was originally attracted to Lotus Express by their gorgeous menu, featuring a full color vista of a Classical Chinese palace, which somehow found it's way under my door about a year ago. Since then, it's become my favorite Chinese-American takeout in the area. Originally the food quality was absolutely the best, nothing was overdone or slimy and the ingredients were fresh. The quality has taken a dip recently, but it's still consistently better than most hole in the wall takeouts. The staff is also very nice and I've always had a pleasant experience when ordering. The best thing about Lotus Express is their Fried Pork Dumplings, wrapped in rice noodles instead of cheap dough and fried with a sprinkle of love. First, I want to thank my fellow yelpers for the good reviews and recommendations! I was craving Chinese food, but I was scared of trying any of the restaurants around. I recently moved from Fordham, BX to be more specific and we have been eating from the franchise Panda, which is really good by the way. So I started looking for a Chinese food take-out type of place because Amy's seen to be kind of expensive and the delivery guy has an attitude, (according to almost every single review from there) it was Friday and I didn't want to ruined it. So, to make this review shorter I had the General T'so Shrimp!! OMG!!! That was delicious, the veg. fried rice was yummy! Not greasy at all, I had an egg roll no greasy!! And delicious, and spring roll!! Man!! Everything was so good and made with love!! (I could feel it) I recommend my wife to get food from them today because of my great experience and the fact that she didn't call me to complain about the food means that they deserve 5 stars!!! I recently moved into the area and had another really terrible Chinese place closer to my apartment, but decided that my fellow Yelpies probably could help me find one that would be good. This places is nice for a quick pick-up or delivery. The people really were super friendly. Food was ready in about 12 minutes on a Monday evening. I ordered the fried pork dumplings because of what I read here and they were SO good. There were bits of onion and they were flavorful! Highly recommended. I ordered my favorite, beef mei fun - it's not bad. There are some veggies in it, which, in my experience, is unusual. It's a little low on flavor, though. There's no way they could have stuffed more food in that takeout box. So much! I look forward to visiting Lotus Express again! read more
