Thos is my 2nd time ordering from here. The food is just bland. There is no "Pop" to it. I don't know what to say, is there no msg, fresh spices. I think they are catering to the "new folks" who have been moving into the area BUT you can do better. The rice is plain, vegetable w/garlic sauce (the same.) The food was soooo good! This restaurant is around the corner from my parents and today we decided to go pick up food. The staff attended us quickly and we didn't feel rushed. My favorite thing ever is the crab rangoons. Me oh my! They are crispy and it has the perfect ratio inside and the filling was not sweet. We ordered the house special fried rice, crab rangoons, chicharones, tostones, fries and chicken wings. The rice is one of my faves. Loaded with all the fixings and every bite of rice is perfect. The restaurant was quiet when we went and it just bought back a childhood nostalgic of going to eat at a similar restaurant that use to be near my grandparents house. read more

Worst phone customer service I've ever received. When placing an order for delivery, I asked to confirm the items of my order after being given a price more than the cost of the food. The man I was speaking with hung up without confirming. When I called back, initially thinking we were disconnected, he said I was complaining about the price, must have the wrong restaurant, and canceled my order. The food is not remotely good enough to have that terrible of an attitude. You can find better Chinese on any corner. I certainly did. read more

Felt like I've posted reviews on New Golden Star before, being its really one of the only Chinese Food restaurants that I go to. Either way, I am very selective when it comes to where I get Chinese Food from. Have had bad experiences at a few places but took a chance on New Golden Star several years ago and have been continuing to go here for my Chinese Food fix for the past few years. Very good and fresh shrimp, rice with flavor and very good portions. Haven't had one bad experience here and I recommend it to those in the neighborhood to get their Chinese Food and even Spanish food fix. read more

Pros: Hands down the best Chinese food in Washington Heights. The fried rice is real fried rice made fresh with great ingredients, not that nuclear yellow rice that's usually flavorless (I'm not completely knocking it, sometimes I get nostalgic cravings for it). The vegetarian options are phenomenal! I ordered the Soy Beef and Broccoli this last time and I was so impressed and satisfied. To be able to order a mock dish one is used to eating before the change in diet and it actually tasting amazing is a relief and a treat in a vegetarian's life. The only CON: It is double the price of the regular Chinese fast food places. So all in all to conclude this review, cook your meals at home 80% of the time and treat yourself to high quality take out/delivery 20% of the time. This place is great! Always consistent and always tastes good. Every time I come here my food is ready in a decent amount of time and the service is very good! The prices are really good, especially for the amount of food you get. I love that even if you order takeout it's as if you were sitting in... no difference! Never cold and always on time. We're not from the area, so we gave this place a try. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food came out fast, and was delicious. We ordered wanton soup, hot and sour soup, the house fried rice, and orange chicken. We really enjoyed it. I also had a salmon sashimi and the fish was good. Listen--it's nothing to write home about. But it's dependable, consistent, and some items on the menu are quite good. It's also affordable and generous with portions. I lived off this place for 3 years as a grad student. Couldn't love this place more! Have dined here many a time and they're always nice and the food is always great. Ordered for pick up recently and someone at the restaurant called to confirm if I knew what I had ordered (the shrimp chow mein) and it wasn't what I thought: I thought it was the thin fried noodles but apparently their chow mein is a white sauce with meat and vegetables over rice, and I was so grateful that he informed me! So he kindly changed my order to a shrimp lo mein, and gave me a soda to make sure I got my full money's worth since the chow mein costs more than the lo mein. Decent restaurant. Pretty good food. When I passed by the restaurant, and saw their exterior, I hesitated a tad bit on whether or not I should give it a try. But I was craving for some Chinese food, so I thought, eh, how bad can it be? And to my astonishment, it wasn't bad at all! The restaurant seemed pretty clean, the bathroom was clean, the prices were reasonable, and the food was pretty good! I had some curry rice noodles (I don't quite remember the name of the order) but IT WAS SO FLAVORFUL! I can smell the curry the second they served it to me! I also had their sesame chicken... it was so good. Not soggy, not too sweet, not too salty. Everything was just right. Fast, efficient and yummy. My regular go to Chinese food option for Harlem. Always clean and delicious. My favorite items to order that do not disappoint and keep my calories in check are; Broiled Shrimp Platter w/ Tostones (so yummy) Chicken Wings Singapore Noodles (so yummy) California Rolls Check them out the next time you need delivery during a Netflix and chill day or night! i have only come to eat-in here. many of the negative reviews are about the long wait when awaiting delivery. food comes out fairly quick when actually sitting in. the style of chinese food offered here is more cantonese/hong kong style, which i LOVE. this is different than the fast food take out places you see on every corner. i have not tried the sushi, so i can't comment on such, but the traditional cantonese dishes are fantastic and portion sizes are reasonable. i took off one star because the decor is very old, and many of the seat cushions are broken. seems more of a take out/delivery place anyway, so I'm guessing theres a lack of effort in actually making the interior nice. read more

I happen to discover this place , When my brother treated me here. Normally I use to eat at a place similar to this on 96st on Broadway, called Victoria. I like the fact when u dine in they give us fried crispy noodles with duck sauce on the side as a dipping sauce.... I rated it 3 starts because when I ask them to make a dish spicy... Horrible Customer Service!!!! Came in yesterday for a quick meal before my trip to D.C, I ordered 2 Spring rolls and Sesame chicken. My spring roll comes out I take a bite it has shrimp in it, I tell the server then she proceeds to tell me "Our spring rolls have shrimp in them" Then walks away. The other server looks so confused when she said that, It clearly says (Shrimp, Spring and Vegetable) Happy I don't have a shrimp allergy, I could've died yesterday. The other server shows her the difference on the menu, then she comes back to ask me if I had a shrimp allergy after the fact so she can fix it. How can you fix it if your spring rolls come with shrimp? I cancelled my other order paid and left. Never ever again!!!!! I have to say it's a good Chinese spot that has always been in the neighborhood. I been here a few times and every time the food it's always good. The last time I went I ate the general Tso chicken with house special fried rice and a spring roll. The food was cooked with finesse. Me and my friends shared all our food. When I think of authentic and delicious fried rice this place always comes to mind. Having Ben raised in the area, I've partaken and enjoyed their cuisine since I was a child. The mere fact that they've been in the same location for over a dozen years is a testament to their loyal customer base and just how delicious their food is. It wasn't until I moved out of the area that I realized how hard a Chino- Latino spot is to come by. From chuletas and platano maduros to pork fried rice and general tso chicken.... This venue makes it all. Some of my favorites: Pork fried rice: with a generous amount of roasted pork, egg and tossed together with some soy sauce this rice is savory and on point. Boneless chicken chunks (chicharrones de pollo): crispy garlicky chunks of chicken. A perfect portion of breading to white meat goodness. Delicioso. Pork chops: thin and well seasoned. You get two of them per entree. They are so good you will find yourself to picking off every scrap from the bone. BBQ Spare ribs: unless those fast food places, their meat isn't deep fried. Instead they marinate and pan fry thin large pieces in a specialty sauce. This sauce is more on the sweet side. Definitely none of that straight from the bottle here. read more

I had not been to this place since my high school days. Back then I thought this was the best Chinese food spot in the Heights. I returned with extremely high hopes and it was like prom all over again, a disappointment. I ordered the pepper steak with white rice with the soup. The service was quick, and courteous. At first I thought I would sit in and relax but I had to run out. They were very accommodating and the price was fair. When I got home I had a bit of the food and couldn't finish it. Okay so I went through all the reviews and wanted to see if they are indeed true... This is by far the best quality and service you will find in NEW York for the price only because it's in Washington Heights! We dine in and do delivery all the time which is quick either way. I literally won't find this sauce and crunchness of the General Tso chicken which I pair with vegetable fried rice and they always hook it up. The sauce is the perfect mild spice for the both of us and we add a spring roll to the mix or crab Rangoon which is also the most authentic crab Rangoon you will find, just like others here say. We've tried several places even tho Philly is known for its Chinese food, it was a Philly taste (if you know what I mean). Even the other things we tried were really great and always my go to. If you go to the restaurant they will give you free noodles with duck sauce as a table starter for free. If you ask for it on delivery you pay one dollar per bag. Not that we need another Chinese restaurant in Washington Heights, but I have to say that I'm glad this place has arrived. A little classier/nicer than Jade Garden, which is my normal go to Chinese place. The menu has some interesting items, and based on previous reviews I saw beef and broccoli lo mein. That peaked my interested, so I ended up ordering it and GOOD DECISION. If you want some delicious greasy Chinese food, this is the dish for you. Now they just need to make chicken and broccoli lo mein lol whoever complained that the broccoli was super mushy, must have been on a bad day because mine was perfectly cooked. The portions are huge. I got the smallest size and it has lasted me three days. Love it! I ordered a basic sushi roll too. I am always looking for edible sushi in our neighborhood. It was just okay. Probably on quality with Sushi Yu 2, but the delivery sushi is a little more edible for your basic rolls compared to the one my roomie got once from SY2 that was a poisonous tuna. I pretty much grew up with this place. The restaurant has been around since my mother was a child, so when I was growing up, my family ordered food from this place A LOT. Food is great; I love the way they make their fried rice. It's not yellow rice, like a lot of other Asian spots in the area serve. It's actual fried rice, and I order mine crispy. Take-out portions are big, so you can share an order of food. The restaurant offers a blend of Chinese, Japanese and Latino foods. The owner, who I call "amigo" has known me since I was a toddler, and he and his staff treat me well every time I go in. read more
