Great restaurant to have in the neighborhood! You know the food is good when you ask for a second serving of TOAST You must try the chop sauce with your steak bites. I read over my reviews and realized I am starting to sound very disgruntled. I am not very disgruntled. I enjoy a lot of things; warm afternoons, sitting in a jacuzzi, and good food! I guess what I am, is not accepting of establishments that put zero effort into food quality and/or customer service. So this brings me to Chops. I slept on Chops for quite a while because I thought it was a barbershop. Little did I know "Chops" referred to food, not getting ones hair cut. My loss, entirely. First off, the food in this place is THE BEST. Bless that man in the kitchen, because he can throw down! I usually get the rib tips with macaroni and cheese and potato skins, and it is really hard to stop eating and box it up for later. Its like the food is so good it puts me into a trance, and I could just sit there at the bar all evening, slowly mowing through all that goodness. Secondly, the staff is GREAT. They remember you, greet you, actually appear to care about you, are friendly as hell, and make you feel welcome. I usually go here alone after work, and always feel welcome. The customers, as a reaction to how friendly the staff are, are equally pleasant, and I have enjoyed many a convo at the bar with a stranger. It is a very easygoing place and as a single woman I'm never intimidated by aggressive, annoying men, or men with "staring problems". This is now my defacto neighbourhood bar. I love this place. Please, please, please don't sleep on this Detroit gem! Formerly the Blackberry now reopened as Chops! Where do I begin...I was meeting a dear friend there and arrived a bit early. Ruby, the bartender, greeted me with a welcoming smile, handed me a menu and took my drink order as soon as I sat down. I was hungry, really wanted to go to my favorite restaurant but couldn't make it. Didn't want bar food but what choice did I have? Boy, let me tell you the choices. This is a full menu with apps and entrees. I got the loaded potato skins, fried shrimp, collard greens and macaroni & cheese - yep, I know what you're thinking..."all of this from a dive bar?" (And I said I was hungry don't judge me)! Well, I don't know who is back there cooking but he deserves a raise. For his hands are truly annointed! You can tell when an artist takes pride in what he does and this one definitely does. Everything was slamming! I thought about taking a pic so you could see the presentation but I didn't want to pause from eating to do so. The shrimp were perfectly fried (crunchy and tender) and HUMONGOUS! Like seriously didn't know shrimp came that big. I guess I was tearing down into it so good the guy across the bar from me told Ruby, "I'll have what she ordered." And while all this eating was taking place Ruby kept the crowd live (music had her "back arching") and the glasses full. She and another patron even made up a new mixed drink! Then the dj arrived! Lets just say he was a specialist in his craft as well. Sidebar: he ordered the chicken salad (I did get a pic) and I now know what i will order the next time I'm home. I will be getting that to go! Anywhoo, the dj took the atmosphere to another level. Asked me who i loved (Rahsaan Patterson) and in order to make sure i stayed a little longer played him right before I left. If I could give a minus zero I would. Waited TWO hours for a damm salad. And still had to wait longer for it. Got it wrong the first time. Took even longer the second time. I will NEVER come here again. I am a first time visitor to Detroit and to this restaurant and I was excited to come here. Then get a bill for the food after the manager ( I guess) told us he would waive our bill. Our whole bill should have been covered. I'm more than pissed off. TWO HOURS For A SALAD !!!!!! read more

Service was terrible. The bartender was also our waitress. Waited 20 minutes just for water. And that's after she came over and was reminded we need water. Food was okay. T-Bone is extremely thin. Burgers are good. The music was a solid selection, seating arrangement was strange. I recommend you get tipsy while you're here or you'll leave disappointed. read more

Went here last night and it was the worst experience ever.. there waitress/bartender had a disgusting attitude from jump, she kept rolling her eyes at me, and kept calling my date baby smh.. we ordered at 9:50pm, still no food by 11:15pm, and they close at midnight.. the owner never asked us if we were ok or anything she just kept messing with a tv that wouldn't come on then she went behind the bar.. when the waitress/bartender came back I asked her for my food to go and she kept insisting that it's coming out shortly.. even the couple behind us thought their food was ours because we've been waiting so long and they sat down after us.. the lamb chops were burnt, extremely thin, too much pepper, and overcooked (I eat all of my red meat medium well).. I asked for smashed potatoes but got burnt sauteed potatoes instead.. the greens were undercooked, salty, no turkey parts as advertised, and no cornbread bites that was advertised with it as well.. the only time the owner said something was when we were leaving and she had miss attitude bring my friend his food because he didn't want it anymore.. I'll NEVER return here and unless you know the owner personally she won't pay you any mind.. I try to support black businesses but this is an example as to why I choose not to all the time.. very unprofessional, no proper customer service training, and nasty ass food.. #issaNO for me read more

This was the worst restaurant I've ever been to waited 2 hours for our meal and got a attitude at the end of the night. Was told that the owner was NOT coming to our table to discuss the issue we had because she was busy!! I'll never go here again the black lady with the short hair cut took everything personal! We waited 2 hours and you took 10 off our bill and then asked what was the issue? Well the issue is we waited 2 hours for nasty food and then had to deal with your mast attitude NOTHING COMPARES !!!
