Just a great place to get a chateaubriand for 2 on Christmas. We wanted something special and that's what we got. Great service, delicious crab cake to start and then the meat was rolled out. Our server was very attentive, yet never suggested a second glass of Albariño, which was odd. I overheard him offering the table next to us a Coquito as an after dinner cocktail, so when before he brought us our check I asked him about a cocktail. So, he gladly offered us the Coquito, which was served up in shot glasses with our check and we both agreed it was good I asked about a cocktail, as he didn't offer it, I had to ask. We got a slice of the 25 layer chocolate cake to go, and we've been snacking on the huge slice after our trip to Palamino Island today. Worth getting dessert to go, as this was an ambitious slice. This was our second favorite meal at the resort (only Stingray was better) - excellent wine selection. We absolutely loved our Orin Swift Abstract which was lovely with our steaks. Service was attentive, and we left very full. Definitely one of the pricier options at the resort - but well worth it in comparison to some of the other subpar food options. Local resident here relocated from the States. Visited Chop at Conquistador for the first time last night with some friends. The meal was decent and we left the restaurant satisfied but not "wowed" or over-impressed considering the prices. For about 2/3 the price, you can take a short trip down to a Palmas Del Mar and have a meal so fresh and delicious that it will knock your socks off. Pescaderia upscale dining on the Marina (dinner only indoor/patio dining) for example or CBar in Palmanova plaza! Both incredible world class dining experiences. We started with focaccia bread brought to the table accompanied with honey-butter. Something needs to be adjusted to spruce up the bread rolls. They were very flavorful and warm but a bit chewy rather than the fresh out of the oven texture one would expect. I was wondering if they had been microwaved but didn't say anything. I started off with the Lobster bisque which was quite lovely but small and only had one piece of actual lobster in the soup. For $12, it wasn't up to my standards but still delicious minus the bits of lobster you should be receiving at such a high price establishment. Two of our friends tried different salads to start. The Waldorf salad looked excellent and was a decent sized portion. No complaints. For the main course, 3 of us had the coconut lemongrass crusted grouper and the other had the 12 oz filet with a blue cheese crust. The filet was exceptional. The grouper was decent and the flavors were right on but I've had fresher fish here in PR. For sides, we tried the steamed broccoli and the mac & goat cheese. The mac was underwhelming as the cheese was more oily and congealed. Perhaps they should consider switching to different cheeses that melt better like a Gouda or havarti. Perhaps a lobster mac would be a popular item... the broccoli was great. Cooked well and with a nice bit of.m crunch. For dessert, we shared two items. The flash fried Oreos and the coconut Bavarian cream. Fried Oreos were phenomenal (how could you go wrong with fried food in PR...) but the the Bavarian cream was seriously lacking. Situated on top of a passion fruit gel, the gel was practically cemented on the plate. It may have been old. The cream was not creamy and rather bland and the red velvet cookie crumbled sprinkled on top of the dish were stale. All this dinner for 4 cost us about $320 after IVU and tip. None of us were consuming alcohol with our meal. Not sure we would be back any time soon. Puerto Rico is very much a world culinary destination and Chop under delivered. With unbelievable restaurants up in San Juan like Marmalade, Bottles, Santa Ella, etc... and several fabulous options down in Palmas Del Mar, why settle for mediocre at a high price? read more

Chops was a pleasant surprise at the conquistador. While a bit overpriced, the food was solid. One thing I will say, I come from chicago so when it comes to steakhouses we have the best so I tend to stray from ordering steak elsewhere. That trend continued and I'm so glad it did. I opted for the grouper and it was the best grouper I have ever had, so flavorful and fresh with a beautiful light ber blanc sauce. My fiancé had the diver scallops and although they were fresh tasting, they were rather small and only 5 on the plate which I felt it was kind of short for the $33.00 price. We shared the cheddar au gratin potatoes and they were delicious. I second others in saying that the sides seemed small for sharing. Overall this place was pretty good but pricey. This is a great place. The photos on the wall from the roaring 20's give you the feeling of being in an old time steak house. We opted not to have steak, but went instead for the Carribean lobster. We both love it grilled but I asked our server to see what the chef suggested. In a few moments she came back with a smile and asked if we has any food allergies, which luckily we don't. It took awhile, but she came back with a phenomenal rendition of a lobster thermidor! Wouldn't expect to get this on a busy night as there is so much prep time but we enjoyed every bite. read more

One of the most disappointing meals I've had. The atmosphere was nice, but we had to wait a whole hour for our food to come, and we only ordered 3 dishes. The ribeye was well cooked, but the chateaubriand for 2 was lukewarm and pretty much raw in the middle. It was bland and unimpressive, served with only a few potatoes and one half cooked carrot, considering how it was a $90 dish! The kids meal pasta that we ordered for the little one had weird, too sweet taste to it, as did the butter used earlier for the bread. She ended up leaving most of it uneaten. We finished in around 20 minutes, and by then we just wanted to leave. However, the waiter brought us the wrong check, and that held us back another 15 minutes. Overall, the food and service were subpar, and there are many other places with better options at a much more reasonable price range. read more

Must say the service was great. Tamara was a wonderful server however between my fiancé and myself we ended up having 5 steaks cooked. His first one had great flavor but was over cooked. Mine tasted like they set it on fire (charred taste) but was cooked to medium. His second steak was rare and my second was okay. The shared sides are not big enough to share. My Waldorf salad was excellent but more like a slaw than a salad. His baked potato soup had no potato chunks but tasted great!! For a steak house the steak should be the star but it wasn't. Disappointing $200 meal. My fiancé almost asked if he could go back there and teach the chef how to cook a steak. read more

Horrible service. Waiter disappeared right after we placed our order and never returned. The manager came over 45 minutes later to bring us our steaks which were cold and had the wrong sides. No apology no discount.. no attempt to make it right. We later were told by another waiter that our waiter had gotten sick and went home. read more

Decent food for an expensive price. Wait staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. Chicken breast is decent but not worth the 26 dollars. The shared asparagus side is also not worth the 11 dollars...had no taste - wasn't sautéed in anything ..just plain ole asparagus. Mashed potatoes were probably the best part of my meal . My gf ordered the filet mignon and she liked it. Probably wouldn't go back but it's a nice change of scenery from the other restaurants around Fajardo. Our anniversary celebration dinner at Chops, El Conquistador's flagship restaurant, was good; however, the service and a dining experience did not deliver the "over-the-top" experiences that we have had at other flagship Waldorf Astoria steak restaurants. Mr. GDS ordered the strip steak ($45) and I ordered the tuna steak ($34). Both items were nicely prepared. We also ordered white cheddar cheese gratin potatoes as a "shareable side." We received a small portion that was barely enough for one person, let alone shareable. My experience in a high end steak restaurant is that the portions of sidedishes indicated as shareable are huge and truly enough for two or more people.Therefore, I would skip the "shareable" side and split an appetizer or salad. Overall, our dinner was good just not great. If you do not have a rental car or for other reasons do not want to venture outside of the resort, Chops is a good choice among the resort's high-end restaurants for a celebration dinner. I also found the price to be comparable to steak restaurants in Dallas and reasonable for a highend restaurant in Dallas. read more

We started with a specific bottle of wine and received a red, not a white but decided to enjoy until we discovered it was $100 more then the white. The scallops then came and were cold and pink in the middle needing to be sent back, and the rest of the sides were cold when returned. Delicious. If you have celiac or prefer not to eat gluten, ask the chef and he will make something special for you. Did I say delicious? Definitely try the coconut ice cream for desert. Divine. We had an excellent waiter, Orlando. He made our experience a great one. The food was outstanding. I had the 10 oz filet with shrimp and asparagus, my husband had a 14 oz New York strip, and our 4 year old had the kids' Mini-Mignion with pearls, carrots, and mashed potatoes. We also tried the drink of the night. I believe he called it Blue Splash, had fresh berries in it, Bacardi, we each had two drinks. We lived them. Everything was great, Orlando also suggested sauces on the side which were both very good. The restaurant is beautiful, romantic. I don't like to write negative reviews but I had to share the night we had at Chops. It was a kind of slow evening at the restaurant, maybe 40% of the tables were seated. After we were seated , the waiter gives us our menus and takes drink orders and explains that he'll be back to take appetizer orders and go over the menu and suggest wine pairings. He makes it back awhile later to take appetizer orders and leaves and doesn't come back for 20 minutes to take the main course order. No explanation of the menu ,no wine pairings. He disappears another 25 minutes and comes back to tell us the meals are being plated. Yet another 20 minutes passes until the food arrives . No mention of the exceptionally long period of time it took to get the meals to the table . He takes off again, and we find that two of the filet mignons were over cooked to the point that they were ruined. But we can't tell him about it because no one came back to see if everything was ok or if we needed anything else. So we grab another waiter and complained , seeing as how our waiter was m.i.a. . At this point we were already sitting for 2 hours when the original waiter finally comes back. I explained to him that what has taken place so far was unacceptable and I wasn't going to sit any longer to have them even attempt to bring out 2 more filet mignons . I asked for the check and he comes back to say that he put the order in right and the kitchen screwed up. I was already fed up and couldn't care less whose fault it was , I just wanted to leave. As I was paying for the rest of the meals the manger floated around the restaurant but stayed clear of our table. I never saw anything like it before ! I guess the attitude here must be " we're a resort,chances are they won't be back anyway , so they can go to hell". Well , they're right to a point, we won't be back anyway , but it's a black eye for Chops franchises because I'll never go to another one again . I'll stick to Morton's or Ruth Chris , they are more professional and treat me like my business is important to them. It also looks bad for Hilton hotels because I would expect some kind of quality control on their part so that these vendors meet the standards of the hotel. Thank goodness it happened on the very last night of our stay, because everything else was great including the other restaurants on the premises , so it failed to ruin our vacation. So they get two stars for the good appetizers , and we'll take the other three to " hell with us"! read more
