Fast service and good food. I had the nabeyaki - shrimp tempura, fish cake, poached egg and buckwheat noodle in wafu broth. When she recommended this broth, I was a bit apprehensive but she said it wasn't fishy tasting. And she was correct. I enjoyed this dish. I liked the fact that the shrimp tempura was in a separate plate so it didn't get soggy. Tempura breading is slightly thicker. I personally didn't get to taste the crunchy roll but my boyfriend finished it all so it must be good. Parking can be difficult. Saturday night was busy but we didn't wait longer than 5 minutes. Never a good thing when someone samples what you order for them and then asks "Are you trying to kill me?" Less than stellar first time experience today with Chopstix delivery (would be 2 stars if dine in but gotta give leeway when extra food transport comes into play). One of my at home dining companions didn't care for the "fake" look & bland flavor of his salmon, then was upset to find out that both the drinks I ordered (Strawberry Ramu Soda & Japanese Creamy Soda) had warning labels on the bottles! Both contain BPA apparently--never, ever have I seen a "can cause reproductive harm" warning on a nonalcoholic beverage. Unpleasant surprise, to say the least. Chopstix obviously didn't craft these sodas but should think twice about stocking them. My other guest was satisfied with his sushi rolls. My inari order was Ok, not too tasty & definitely didn't seem to be any effort to make it special. Tempura & other fried items were fine. Unfortunately, nothing stood out as being particularly delicious among all the items ordered, so won't be ordering from here again. read more

It is a hit or miss here. The last time we ordered the mabo tofu curry is not salty but today it is on the salty side. Definitely their takoyaki is not their specialty or their miso ramen. I like their rice bowls, but somehow the last one tasted too salty. I was after the gingery taste of mabo tofu, which there is barely none and too sweet and salty the last time. Their yakisoba is not their best either so stay away from yakisoba and takoyaki. their sushi are good. Next time ill just stick with curry plates with chicken or pork katsu. read more

Came in here on a weekday lunch time and was seated right away. I had ordered one of the noodle soups and the lunch roll special which was the crunch roll. I was very happy with my crunch roll and for the lunch day price was well worth it. Unfortunately the udon noodle soup just doesn't really hit the spot for me. They use these large black pot like bowls to serve the soup in and when I tasted the broth it has a weird after taste of the bowl it's served in. I also feel that it lacked flavor and was on the bland side. I definitely would come back and try more of their sushi rolls but I think I'll be passing on anymore is their soups. read more

Yum! Oyakodon!!  It's not easy to find this hearty Japanese classic in this area let alone done well but Chopstix certainly delivered this time.  I got their Oyakodon to-go (naturally because of Covid) and even as a to-go dish the egg was perfectly runny. Their soup base is lightly sweet, savory (umami yum!), and well balanced. I also tried the chicken katsu curry and well quite pleased. The breading on the katsu stays light and crispy even when drowned in the rich curry sauce. I'm getting so hungry writing this review so I think I'll visit Chopstix now. read more

Maybe I should have asked where I could find cheap, no portion control, Yakisoba in San Diego because yelp answered me with this place. CHICKEN YAKISOBA ($6.95) - egg noodles, vegetables, and chicken. Extremely generous portions and flavorful yet kind of on the greasy side. The chicken was very tender and probably the best chicken I've ever had in yakisoba. As for the plate as a whole it was tasteful. Loved the pink ginger mixed into my yakisoba; it adds a different flavor profile making it a little more exciting to eat. RECOMMEND. There's truly one place I eat Yakisoba, in San Francisco, mid-April at the Cherry Blossom Festival, amongst hundreds of people, impatiently waiting for food. In the meantime... this will do. If you are here for their fresh hot rice bowls, than this will probably be a 4-5 star experience as it is big and their katsu is juicy. However, the yakisoba is rotten cabbage and that's about it. Very little in vegetable variety and not worth going to. It was so bad, I had a bad experience at a sushi bar one year later and it reminded me of this experience. Also their soba noodle is okay. Came in with a friend on V-day and it was thankfully not packed. (Good thing bad thing?) We were originally supposed to eat at RakiRaki but the line was too ridiculous and I was too hungry. We were immediately seated and we ordered the Inari, Vegetable Tempura Don, and the Curry Chicken Katsu. The dinners come with miso soup and salad. For what you are paying, you get a lot of food. I really enjoyed the inari and it didn't taste like the fake superstore prepackaged stuff (thankfully) and the tempura bowl was filled a ton with rice and veggies. The sauce is already poured over the veggies and rice but I'm sure if you wanted to get more, you could. I know it was a lot of food but I really ate a ton and finished. I have been craving this bowl since I have left. My friend also liked her curry. She at first couldn't finish it but when she had taken it to go, she ate when we got home. It comes with 3 or 4 pieces of breaded chicken and lots of curry and rice. It smelled good and the chicken looked crunchy and golden brown. It will definitely get your Japanese food craving filled but it's also not the most fancy or expensive place so just know what to expect. Service was spectacular in this establishment as our server constantly checked up on us and never let our water cups become empty. We ordered several of their appetizers along with some entrees. Worth eating here for sure. When you first see the location you'll notice the windows are tinted really dark but once you walk in you'll be able to see the entire dining area. A very small restaurant but you'll able to find a table easily with a small party. The service was fast and we were able to place our orders right away. We got the chicken katsu bento box, the chicken katsu bowl, and the cheesy lobster roll. The food was super flavorful yet I wish they would've given more chicken and less rice. Horrifying experience just trying to get a paper menu to take home for my collection im starting since I just moved to the area. I stumbled upon Chopstix on a Monday night at about 7pm while my boyfriend and I were venturing around Convoy. We initially wanted to go to a ramen place across the street but couldn't find any parking. Luckily, we found a spot in front of Chopstix and decided to go there instead. We were seated immediately, and the workers were very nice. We ordered the crunchy roll which had shrimp tempura, imitation crab, avocado, cucumber, and on top was spicy mayo and eel sauce, which was really good. The ramen was also great. We both ordered the ramen noodles with shoyu broth. I got it with chicken, and my boyfriend got the wonton chasyu-men. We received our food within 5-7 minutes and it was all super tasty in addition to it being reasonably priced. I am only giving it four stars because I personally believe that the atmosphere was a bit underwhelming, but that would not stop me from coming back here.
