I've been here a couple of times and I get surprised every time I find out how much food they offer here. It ranges from sushi, to ramen, to bento boxes, and other types of noodles dishes. I like how you creative you can get with your meal depending on what you enjoy. For example, you can choose from 3 different types of noodle types, then choose a base, then can choose what type of toppings would be added. The one I ordered is shown and it was alright. Had to add some extra flavor because it was a bit too bland for me. The price for everything is decent as well. Paid around $9 for what I ordered. Service was quick and loved the waiter. I stumbled upon Chopstix on a Monday night at about 7pm while my boyfriend and I were venturing around Convoy. We initially wanted to go to a ramen place across the street but couldn't find any parking. Luckily, we found a spot in front of Chopstix and decided to go there instead. We were seated immediately, and the workers were very nice. We ordered the crunchy roll which had shrimp tempura, imitation crab, avocado, cucumber, and on top was spicy mayo and eel sauce, which was really good. The ramen was also great. We both ordered the ramen noodles with shoyu broth. I got it with chicken, and my boyfriend got the wonton chasyu-men. We received our food within 5-7 minutes and it was all super tasty in addition to it being reasonably priced. I am only giving it four stars because I personally believe that the atmosphere was a bit underwhelming, but that would not stop me from coming back here. Great service and food! We're not very With our Japanese food besides some sushi. My kids got sushi , my wife got a shrimp temper is shrimp temporarily and I got a noodle bowl. Everything was good and the service was great the atmosphere was decent but a little bit dark. Over all I would give it 4 and a 1/2 stars Because for restaurants unfortunately I think we rate them to a higher standard and 5 is top notch. Horrifying experience just trying to get a paper menu to take home for my collection im starting since I just moved to the area. Woman at the front immediately starts yelling at me to close the door because they're closed even though there's signs saying open and their doors IS open and I'm just asking for a paper menu and she's acting like I am terrorizing her and threatening her life!! Also mind you, I am handicapped and mobility impaired, so I am limping to the door without taking out my walker simply to QUICKLY PAINLESSLY get a paper menu so I can move on to the next place . Sit right back and enjoy yourself because I have a tale to tell. I've been a customer of Chopsticks since probably around 1992 or so. The servers never put on any airs, and they kicked ass on a daily basis. The food was consistently good. Nothing fancy; just, as they say, good home style cooking. One of my favorite dishes back in the day was the hiyashi soba. Back then, it was never on the main menu. It was a special that they served during summer. I came in one day I believe in October when it was nice and warm outside, as it can be in San Diego, and they wouldn't serve me hiyashi soba. I protested and they said it was a summer dish. I replied, "This is San Diego. It's almost always summer here." I didn't get my hayashi soba that day but they called me the next week and said it was on the menu permanently. I dig the build your own soup options. I l I'll ke the drink and app specials. NoT a fan of some service - wouldn't accommodate a split bowl, and some add-ons (extra noodles) were met with disdain. Parking sucks- but you should already know that- there's a few spots beyond the end of the building in the back. Still, I go back here every couple months cuz I love the custom soup options. They even have sports on TV- so Udon Tankatsu with shrimp tempura & Padres = zen. read more

I've been going to Chopstix for 3 years now. I discovered this place in my freshmen year of college. This was my go to ramen place because of the cheap ramen prices & I've never had to wait, unlike other ramen places in Convoy. The workers greet you right when you walk in the door and they have been nice every time I've been. Usually, I would get the tonkotsu age tofu ramen. I have also tried their dipping ramen and their Japanese fried chicken with curry. I am pleased with everything that I've tried at Chopstix. However, the parking for this lot is now ridiculous because Happy Lemon is in the same plaza and they only have a handful of spots. Their port katsu is great, the curry is on saltier side, but all go really well with the rice. The portions here are huge and the combo usually comes with miso and salad. so sad that i'm writing this because i've been coming here since i was a little kid, but the service has completely declined the past couple years. walked in and immediately got sat, but found out from getting someone else's rice remnants on my arm that the table was not cleaned. there was 3 in our party, but for some reason, we only got 1 menu and 1 pair of chopsticks. we sat around waiting for 10 minutes with no acknowledgment while tables that came AFTER us already had their drinks. while we were sitting for the 10 minutes, we were watching the servers interact with all of the other tables instead of us. we made the assumption that maybe they just don't want to serve us and they don't want our business despite seating us so we were about to leave, but then finally a server came and asked "are you guys ready yet?" as if they had already touched base with us lol. when we finally got our food, the server pretty much just dumped it on the table and took off. so we had to wait AGAIN to ask for more chopsticks and extra napkins. the food here is comfort. you'll always get the same quality every time and it tastes great. but sadly, i think it would be best if you only ordered pick-up as the service is awful now. read more

Came here last night with my hula sisters. We were originally gonna go to Kula Sushi but the line was too long so we ended up here. Too bad they don't have takoyaki on the menu since it's my favorite :( I ended up getting the curry ramen $5.95. It comes with pork, fish cake and egg. It honestly was just okay. I get really picky when it comes to ramen and the only places that I've like the ramen was at Tajima (Convoy location only) and Rakiraki. 3.5 Stars, but gonna round up because of how awesome their Crunch Roll was So after getting down to San Diego after the trip from the OC, we parked near Jasmine Restaurant and then walked around the area to see what we would want. We saw Korean BBQ, Dumpling Inn (which would have been good if not for the long line). Look no further, and we saw Chopstix just a couple clicks away from where we had parked. It had good ratings and it was on Convoy, so ofc it had to be good, right? :P walking in to a mostly filled up but small restaurant, we were quickly asked how many and seated. Unfortunately, after getting our menus, it would take about 10-15 minutes for them to come back to us and ask us WHAT WE WANTED TO DRINK. It took another 8 minutes and some flagging down for us to finally order (but when it finally came to pay, oh boy were they right on the money!). Some of that was probably because servers did not stop moving. They were either cleaning a table or walking around trying to get dishes passed out, etc, but that should never be the case to a restaurant that was this size. Service 2 stars. So looking at all the signs, it said Crunch Roll $4.95, special. And I was kinda wary but I liked crunch rolls from other places, so I decided since I would save $3 on what it typically cost, I would get that. I wanted to get gyoza too, but my friend got that and gave me one, and i traded him for the crunch roll. Gyoza- It was made beautifully and seared? I forgot the term here.. to the perfect timing. It was soft and airy and had a hint of something different ._. Was it worth the cost? I don't think so, but it's a nice appetizer to start with :) Lemongrass maybe? Crunch- Oooooh. Now THIS WAS GOOD. The rolls were HUGE. I should have ordered 5 of these. They had eel sauce here and they barely fit in my mouth. Yeah. They have tons of shrimp tempura lining the outside of the roll. Can I NOM NOM NOM? Yes. Yes I can. Hehe. I ordered Champon Ramen with Tonkotsu broth (extra 50 cents). It had vegetables (a LOT) with shrimp and squid. The vegetables kinda lost the whole meaning of ramen for me, because it was kinda Americanized here. The squid were strings of white blocks, while the shrimp were about average. The ramen itself was thicker than other ramen places I've had, but the tonkotsu broth wasn't on par to..let's say Tamaya in Rowland Heights. But take away the fact that I don't like vegetables and you've got yourself a legit ramen bowl haha. Tonkotsu..not worth the extra 50 cents. It was bland and kinda mild. Or very light I guess haha. Where's the fat?! Next time? I wanna see what the wontons are like haha. Good place to eat crunch rolls. :P Ramen, I'll try other places, but back here, I'll have something that DOESN'T say "vegetables". chopstix is the only sushi restaurant by far that's my favorite. it's basically my to-go sushi place. i always get the crunchy roll & the spicy tuna roll, a/b combo! for the price of 2 whole rolls, $10.50/$10.95 isn't so bad! my friend got the a-combo & it's really good. a lot of pieces that makes you get full very quickly. usually we would get the a/b combo & split them both. i got the crunchy roll & the spicy tuna roll deal. large quantities of the crunchy roll & since they're giant pieces i think it's pretty good for $10.95. very flavorful & the plate itself was big, meaning a lot of sushi portions! the environment is really neat, dark, not too noisy but also can get very noisy since it's a very small place. the workers are very nice. i always come back here & probably once you try chopstix you will be too! read more

Chopstix was always the go to spot back in the day because you get the most bang for buck especially for the amount of food you receive. Sadly, their most raved about crunchy roll was once $4.95, but the price has crept up a dollar since then. Regardless, the crunchy roll is still a very good deal. You can easily fill yourself up on just one. To add, their rice bowls are also huge, hardy, and tasty. Expect to receive plenty of meat in their ramen as well. It's not the best tasting ramen as the broth can be kind of bland and the meat a bit dry, but it still hits the spot. I got that with the mabo tofu but the tofu was WAY TOO SALTY for my tastebuds ): this dish would have been one of my favorites if the mabo tofu wasn't super salty.. Maybe I just came at a bad time where the chief didn't realize how much salt he sprinkled over the mabo tofu?.. Lol The chicken katsu curry is good. It was not salty and the veggies were cooked just right. This combo came with salad and soup as well. The soup was just regular miso soup. Nothing special. Just simple and decent soup to go with your dish. The salad was very plan.. I don't even think I took a bite of it because it just looked like salad from a bag with no dressing.. The ramen was decent as well. The broth wasn't very seasoned and kind of tasted like boiled eggs.. But they do give you an abundant amount. The pork that came with it was decent as well. It was tender but didn't taste like anything but boiled meat.. Wish they soaked it in a seasoning.. Maybe soy sauce or something? The costumer service is ok. Chopstixs has been around for a while. There was a point they opened a second location nearby but that didn't last too long. The food here is always consistent and you know what you're getting. They were one of the first Japanese restaurants on convoy. There are many more new ones that have opened up since but I still continue to go to chopsticks because it's has that comfort feel. When I come here I'll get the curry chicken or the mapo tofu. Both dishes are satisfying and has good portions. They even let you get a combination of the two which I do from time to time if I cannot make up my mind. I also like to come here for the yakisoba. Decent place for lunch for the price. My Tonkatsu Ramen was a little too salty & that's saying a lot since I usually like my meals on the saltier side. The Age Gyoza that came with my meal, on the other hand, was pretty good. The dough wrap for the gyoza was better tasting than the meat filling though. Hubby had the Chicken Yaki Soba. Such great quality for a great price! I love going to Chopstix when I want to get my Japanese food fix. When I'm craving some delicious Katsu Curry, Chopstix is definitely the place to go! They are very generous with their portioning and I always end up taking leftovers home for a second dinner later on. :D They also have really good pork katsu and squid katsu (Ika-Katsu). Sometimes the squid is hit or miss; sometimes chewy, sometimes not chewy at all. Another notable food item is their dishes cooked with egg (Katsu-Don) where the meat is cooked inside an egg that is on top of rice and vegetables: great for those of you who love eggs as much as me! Their ramen is also very consistent, not the best compared to ramen places on convoy, but it definitely hits the spot when hungry! If you're feeling extra hungry, I always get the crunchy roll to share with others along with my meal.
