The Foods that we always order here are: *DELUXE NABEYAKI - It has UDON noodles, Wafu broth, 3 pieces of Shrimp Tempura, mushrooms, fish cake, crab cake, scallion, and Poached egg all served in an Iron kettle * PORK YAKISOBA - Egg noodles with Pork and Veggies. *CRUNCHY ROLLS - Shrimp tempura, imitation crab, avocado, cucumber, tempura shrimp crunch on the top of the roll, eel sauce, spicy mayo, sesame seeds. All of the food here is always good, but the one that we came here for the most is their Nabeyaki Udon Deluxe soup. Our friend brought us here. Went on a Saturday early dinner time. Small parking lot but there's extra parking in the back. We were a party of 10, it was busy inside but they were able to seat us shortly in two booths but luckily a group was leaving and we were able to sit at a booth (where we put the kids) and the adults sat at a table next to it. I give the food 5 stars! However, the service is not great. There is an older lady, who is rude, never checked up on us; only to give us the bill. The other taller woman is rude too; she asked if we wanted refills after she brought the check and we already finished our food. There is one waitress who is great, but she's not there often. We've gone to this staple clairemont Japanese restaurant for years and it's consistent, comforting and reasonable. Parking is atrocious in clairemont, and although there's a private lot it's not the easiest to park here - especially a large car. Anywho, it's a no frills spot - but the food is always what you expect. Nicely sized portions, good flavors, and enough variety to please. From hiyashi ramen (cold noodle salad) to bento boxes and sushi, you'll have enough variety to choose from. This was a nice find! We have been here several times already since our initial visit. We walked by it all the time since it's in the same tiny plaza as Happy Lemon. One day we decided to roll the dice and give it a try. The sushi is not bad. It is definitely an upgrade from the revolving sushi... but that's probably always the case when it comes to revolving sushi. We enjoyed their calamari roll the most out of the rolls we've ordered so far. We have tried the takoyaki and okonomiyaki. The takoyaki is the best we've had in a while. My wife says it's the best she tasted since visiting Japan. The okonomiyaki was just okay at best. We still haven't found a place that makes a great one. I really liked their ramen with charsui pork and tonkotsu broth and their katsu curry. My wife has tried their udon with seafood and that's good also. Their service is consistently good. We haven't had any issues in the handful of times we've tried this place out. The servers are all friendly and attentive. We usually ask for no mayo or ask for it on the side. One time when they made our takoyaki with mayo, they promptly corrected that mistake and were very nice about it. There's plenty of seating and they have a nice big flat screen for sports. The only issue with this place is probably going to be the parking... but Convoy area tends to be one of the places in San Diego where finding parking can be a pain. Whew! This place has HUGE servings and did not disappoint! I ordered the chicken Katsu meal, which came with miso soup and a small salad. It was so good...and the chicken wasn't overwhelmed with the curry sauce, which I appreciate. They serve soft drinks in a can, and the service was okay. Been eating at Chopstix the Japanese noodle house since 1997. It's consistently good and the only thing that's changed is the expanding menu and the sadly missing aquarium. Things that are awesome: Deluxe Nabeyaki Udon Ten Zaru Soba, cold, tempura shrimp Mabo Rice Katsu Curry Tonkotsu or Chicken Katsu any don Oyako Don Crunch roll. Any roll with crunch. I was there the week they rolled out the first rolls. It was like an insane $4.95. Okonomiyaki is legit. Some of the staff has been there since 1997 as well. Convoy has changed. Food was okay, appetizers I got were fine but the sushi was cold, didn't seem fresh. The waiting time was like 30-40 minutes for them which I wouldn't mind. The reason why I leave bad review, TERRIBLE SERVICE. I told the short old lady at first I would like some water which was never brought to me and besides the time she brought the food we order, they never even came to our table. Never asked if we want anything or if we are ready to pay. They just brought the receipt and didn't even say anything. They never checked up on us or anything, ANYTHING. So I didn't leave a tip because we were here for like an hour and half and no one came to our table nor asked anything to us. And the taller waitress came to our table, "you didn't leave a tip? There's suggestions for tip down here, Everyone needs to leave a tip!" I was really bummed when she said that because lol what? Never in my life anyone said tipping is mandatory, and I usually tip when the service is really good. So I guess I had to leave a tip because she would NOT leave me alone. We came in at about 8:05pm and asked if we can still be seated and they said last call was at 8 but seated us anyway which we were appreciative of. The seafood udon was decent, was a little too fishy than my regular seafood udon consumptions. They were out of certain rolls since they were about to close but found close substitutes for us. A table of 4 costed us ~$80 before tips because of their decent pricing. Perks is that they have a great selection of veggie options for those that don't eat fish. I went today around 1pm with my boyfriend , we ordered a lot of food (as we usually do when we're here). 3 of my dishes had HAIR IN IT! Parking is shared with other businesses which make it hard to find a spot at times! Usually when we go, we get lucky and find a spot easily, and that also makes it easy for us to get a table as well. Staff has always been friendly on all occasions that we've come. I usually get the Bento Special and my boyfriend usually gets the Cold Soba. Chicken Teriyaki & California Roll Bento ($8.50): The Bento special comes with a salad and edamame; also since I get Chicken Teriyaki, there is also rice. Good portions for the price and the teriyaki flavor is always yummy. Veg Tempura Zaru Soba ($8.95): Comes with 4(?) pieces of tempura, a plate of green onion and wasabi to mix into your dipping sauce, and the soba on top of a bamboo plate with nori on top. The noodles have always been really bouncy and a great texture and the sauce is just flavored enough to not overpower the freshness of the soba.
