Enchiladas, pupusas, arepas, coconut chicken are all on the menu. There are better Latin fusion places in Asheville: Limones and Salsa's but this place is just fine. Friendly service, al fresco dining and good prices. Two people can get huge lunches and be out the door for under $25. read more

Our heads were filled with the iconic dishes of the South: grits, fried green tomatoes, BBQ, and the like. Lo and behold, our B and B hosts recommended Chorizo. Well, I am a sucker of Latin food. I've felt rather deprived since moving to Massachusetts with the great lack of good, authentic platos from South and Central America. Well, we were impressed! The interior is bright and colorful. Our waiter was friendly and cute, too. The food was nicely done as well. The chips were fresh, crisp, and warm. The guacamole was chunky and I enjoyed the spears of yuca. The rice was was crunchy or mushy but done to a tee. So often, bad rice can be the downfall of a good meal. My chicken was perfectly cooked and coated with a lovely collection of spices, served in a piquant sauce. This is definitely a hidden gem. Not much hype about it online but so glad we decided to check it out. We didn't need to wait at all. We ordered Puerto Rican Mofongo and Spanish Crepe Chipotle. And they were both DELICIOUS! It suited our palate and everything in d meal tasted well together. Nothing was overpowering. And the homemade hot sauce? Yummmmz!! 2, maybe 2.5 stars. I had a good dish. Mom had an awful dish. Service was spotty. Prices were not terribly reasonable. The worst thing about this place was the numerous flies buzzing around us and landing on our food. I don't know how sanitary this place actually is, but they seem to have a fly problem. As for our meals, I had the "verduras," which was a plate crowded with a number of vegetarian items. The standout was the poblano pepper stuffed with goat cheese, which naturally was good because, well, it was a poblano pepper stuffed with goat cheese. There were also two tortillas stuffed with what I think was sweet potato, and these were tasty as well. Then there was some grilled corn on the cob that was kind of nasty. Then there were some slices of beet. And other stuff. My biggest complaint was that there was just too much going on on the plate, but when most of it was good I really can't complain too much. Mom's dish was really an appetizer because she wasn't that hungry. I forget what it was called (something with "cocktail" in the name, maybe) but it was a seafood medley in a martini glass. The flavors were awful, the seafood was gross and neither of us wanted to touch it. Probably the worst dish we had during our time in Asheville. So, my dish was Chorizo's only redeeming moment, but at that price (around $16) I would definitely not return. read more

We were visiting friends in Asheville and looking for a good place to eat lunch. After spending a week in Greenville, SC where there is nothing but chain food restaurants we were seriously craving food with flavor and cocktails with liquor in them. Chorizo did not disappoint! The food was fresh, had a great combination of flavors, and you walked out of the restaurant ranting about how good the food was. It was crowded at lunch and on the slightly noisy side, but for great food I will put up with a lot. Excellent food, I will be returning on my next trip to Asheville, NC! read more

It was a dark and snowy night. Cold. Dreary. My normal quick stop in Asheville was closed. A few doors down was bright and cheerful, so why not? A bit more expensive than I had intended, but it ended up satisfying me far more than I expected. The pork enchilada appeared quickly as a large, colorful serving. The enchilada's not what I'd call traditional. The pork was between flat tortillas topped with cheese. Delicious. The salad was fantastically colorful and crunchy. Oh, and to those who agree that cilantro is icky, the salsa is riddled with it, alas. None of the food was light, but the overall brightness of the food, the place, and the people kept it far from heavy. The bartender seemed really to enjoy variations. If I'm ever not just driving through, I'll want to try their margaritas. read more

I met my friend here for some chips and guac, and I am very excited to go back and try more things! Last minute, we decided to split the ceviche - we were both not overly impressed. However, I loved the ambiance of the outdoor seating area - it was a beautiful Thursday afternoon in downtown Asheville and this was such an ideal location to enjoy an early appetizer! Our server was extremely nice and knowledgable - his name has slipped my mind, but I hope to have him when I return. All in all, while I wouldn't recommend the ceviche (which is such a shame - I LOVE ceviche when it's done right), I would highly recommend this restaurant for the quick, friendly service, wide variety of Spanish cuisine, and prime location! read more

Would have loved to spend more time in Asheville this past weekend, but only had one day to check things out. Had a list of restaurants we were going to debate over for lunch, but during our quest for one of the many restaurants yelpers raved about, it began to pour. We were starving and without umbrellas, and were standing right in right of Chorizo, so they got our vote. The hubs and I both love buritos/tacos, so this was a fine option for us. I ordered the grilled chicken tacos, and he got the chicken burrito. Food only took about 10 minutes or less, and it was delicious. The first thing that stood out was how fresh everything was. The pico de gio was so bright and red, and the salad was so green and crisp. My taco (which was more of a wrap, that was then grilled on a grill top and cut in half) was amazing. So flavorful and fresh. As I am typing, I am craving this dish and wishing I had one in front of me right now! Hubs felt the exact same way, and we would definitely recommend this place for their great food. Only negative was it was very close quarters inside, and not much room to spread out. My favorite meal was a lunch meal when I ordered....basically what you could call kabobs or satays. The presentation of this meal was so good, I Facebooked it (yep, I'm that girl). The taste was out of this world. On my last visit, we had the meat/cheese/olive plate (it's a lot of food!) and I while my entree was not the most favorite thing I'd ever had, it was still good. A good, not-too-expensive Latin-themed restaurant in the heart of Asheville tourist mecca (Grove Arcade). I was intrigued by so many of the options on the dinner menu, which included a list of tapas, entree and drink specials that changes daily, it was hard to choose. I finally opted for the Puerto Rican mofongo, a dish of fried tostones (green plantains), served with fried pork, rice and a green salad on the side. The plantain was delicious and crunchy. Unfortunately, I found the pork to be very overcooked. The fresh green salad, which included a bit of guacamole as well, came dressed in a very nice, light citrus-y vinaigrette. I had a lovely reposado margarita with my meal; would've loved to have more than one but safety first. And all were enjoyed in Chorizo's lovely outdoor seating area. Thankfully it's covered, because it began raining as my friend and I were finishing our meals. But we stayed dry and felt no rush to leave. I'd really like to try Chorizo for brunch sometime. But overall, I was perfectly happy with dinner there. read more

Unique flavor combinations for Fresh Mexican cuisine. We enjoyed the outside dining on a lovely evening. The hot sauce was my husband's favorite, though. Just the right amount of heat. My husband ordered steak fajitas and wished the steak had a bit more seasoning to it. The veggies were very tasty with the fajitas, though. I had the Columbian and didn't really taste a strong chorizo so with it being a blended bowl plate I wasn't sure it was in there. The other meats on the plate had a good flavor. The plantain garnish was the perfect compliment to each bite on my plate. Overall a good dining experience even if a bit pricier at around $20/plate. read more

We were able to make a reservation for Sunday brunch using open table, which was nice. The staff was really friendly. They had some interesting Latin inspired brunch foods, which was nice since we had already had some traditional breakfast out earlier in our trip. Everyone at my table got a different entree and everyone was very happy with their meal. We also started the meal with guacamole, which was obviously freshly made and a generous portion. I love Brazilian food, especially churrascaria's, so on a recent trip to Asheville. My girlfriend and I were in Asheville for a romantic get-a-way and to visit friends. We stayed at the Indigo Hotel, I would not recommend it, especially for the value. My girlfriend who spent 5 years in Portugal and I jumped at the chance to meet friends at Chorizo. Since Chef Hector Diaz is very well known for other incredible restaurants in Ashville, such as Salsas, Bomba, Modesto and Chorizo, we were excited to get a spot on a busy Memorial Day Monday. The server that waited on us was a hoot. She kept us entertained, took really good photo's of our table and was there in flash before we knew we wanted something. While we were there my girlfriend introduced me to Caipirinha. If like me you are not familiar with Caipirinha - think Mojito' with lots of lime sans the mint. I was told that it's Brazil's national cocktail, made with cachaça or moonshine cane liquor, granulated sugar and lots of limes. Having never had cachaça, I was disappointed when I found out my drink was made with rum. It was still good and refreshing, but I would get the mojito over this version. I ordered the Ropa Vieja, which comes with Shredded beef, fried yucca root, greens, beans, pico de gallo, & guacamole. I love shredded beef and yucca, and thought it had the right amount of spice, and a great flavor. My girlfriend ordered the Paella, which was odd since she makes one of the best Paella's I've ever had. Hers came with Shrimp, mussels, clams, chicken, chorizo, saffron rice, beans, & guacamole. Needless to say, I did enjoy the Paella, and she loved the Ropa Vieja. Our friends shared the Coffee Pork Arepa which had subtle coffee infused pork, over moro rice, plantains, guacamole, pico de gallo and a pineapple relish. Just ate a late lunch here with my son. We're on a short visit to AVL for the first time. Had to wait a little long for glasses of water and my drink order which finally arrived with apologies. I'm noticing a trend in town regarding service: it's a little chill and reminds me of Jamaica where the motto was "soon come". Anyway, was gonna order I don't remember what until I saw a plate come out for the table 6 inches away from us. It looked good so I also ordered the El Salvador. We are in Asheville for a friends wedding and went here on a Monday night. It was a slow night but still a lively place. We didn't have a reservation and were able to sit down immediately with our party of four. There are lots of choices on the menu and so many sounded both good and interesting, so the great descriptions and suggestions from our waiter were welcomed. I was so glad that I listened to his recommendation of the Paia with steak and shrimp. It had these wonderful plantains on top and the shrimp and meat were cooked perfectly. The fabulous mix of all these yummy things in that Paia were really special, and since I had never had Paia before, I am now a big fan. My wife had the fajita and while that was excellent with black beans and Pico de Gallo the other couple that joined us had two very awesome dishes as well and it was really hard for us to decide after tasting each others meals which was our favorite. Pat had the Argentine steak dish that had a fantastic chimichuri sauce, and Jean had the lamb shank that we probably all gave the edge to, but it was close. Service was excellent and we left thrilled and wishing we didn't live on the West Coast, so we could come back to this great restaurant. read more

While visiting Asheville, I was delighted to find this new-ish restaurant, recommended by my sister. We are both crazy for Salsa's but were desirous of smaller portions and fewer items included in a dish. I had an avocado and shrimp salad and two mijitos. My gal pal had a pizza thing annnd a salad. The waitress was AWESOME about gluten issues and special requests!! We loved everything. Annnnd, come to find out, this place is owned by the same chef as Salsa's! Excellent! Tried lunch at Chorizo today. Waitress was very personable and service was good. Food was also good, but $2.75 for a sweet tea was a little much. Didn't think it was necessary to add the gratuity to the check either. Had planned on giving the server more but when a restaurant adds the gratuity ahead, I usually don't. Although we enjoyed the food and the portions were generous could have had the same meal at Papas and Beer for less. read more

I walked in and was greeted by a guy at the door who said "You're going to love your dinner, becasue I'm going to cook it!" I'm assuming he was the cook -- but he was right! I had the coffee pork plate and it was amazingly fabulous! Some of the best food I've had in a while. I highly recommend this restaurant. Our server was also delightful and helpful while selecting what to eat (they have a pretty big menu). My only complaint is, I ordered a Margarita, and it was one of the worst one's I've ever had in my life. My dining companion ordered a capirinha and it was great! Easily one of my favorite Asheville lunch spots. The menu has a huge selection of diverse Mexican/South American favors. While it IS very meat and egg-centric, they have recently added sunflower-crusted tofu (sounds weird, tastes awesome! Kinda spicy with a little crunch) as a filling option and are able to veganize several dishes. The shiitake burrito and the tofu burrito are really good; they're big, but not obscenely so, and they come with chips/pico de gallo/lettuce/awesome guacamole. Definitely try their house-made hot sauce! It's smoky and flavorful with the perfect amount of heat...I could drink it out of the bottle. That being said, I like hot stuff (siriracha, jalapeños, etc..), so YMMV. My bf gets huevos rancheros every. single. time. It comes with potatoes, a corn cake, steak, 3 eggs, and tiny tortillas, and the presentation is beautiful :) We always get the margaritas, which are fabulous, and sit outside on the patio or on the "open-air" side of the restaurant (they have a giant window-wall-thing that opens up so that you may as well be outside). We went here for dinner and we were really disappointed. I tried the Biscayne Bay paella (a $22 dish) and it was supposed to have mussels in it. My dish literally came with 3 mussels and 2 of the 3 shells were EMPTY! I'll pay for seafood, but GIVE me seafood. The saffron rice was undercooked and a little gritty. Overall beautiful presentation but the dish itself was not good. My husband ordered a chicken burrito that he described as "just OK."
