Stopped in here on a dreary rainy saturday and had a plentiful and Delicious breakfast. I had the Sunrise Chile Relleno consisting of Chicken, 2 eggs, rice, beans, queso fresco, pico de gallo, tomatillo salsa, and avocado. It was fresh and hot and absolutely delicious. My wife had the Arepa and again, couldn't complain, it was totally delicious. The service was good and fast, but we didn't feel rushed, instead enjoying our breakfast and hot coffee. read more

What a well-rounded place. I don't even know where to begin. I'll start with the service. Our server, Chad, was incredibly friendly without being weird. He explained items on the menu to us a few times and helped my friend understand that is really is okay to order Sangria at 10am. Ha. I got the Mexico City Tostada. It was delicious. FULL of flavor. Eggs, shrimp, avocado, cheese, beans, salsa, and greens. Lots of shrimp pieces too. Not bad for $12. I got my son a pancake and it was huge and delicious too! Chad went out of his way to help serve us. The sun was beaming on our table and my poor son has a badly shaven haircut. His head was getting sunburned. He quickly helped move us to a different table in the shade. All of our food, drinks, my place mat for my kid, even moved my kid in the high chair! SO sweet to do that without a blink. Stopped in for dinner with 8 friends last weekend and weren't super impressed with this place. They get points for great presentation and yummy guacamole, but the rest of my food was so bland, I could barely eat it. I ordered seafood in a lava rock bowl and there was absolutely no seasoning added at all. It's like they just boiled everything and put it in the bowl. The blackberry white sangria is very good and the red sangria isn't bad either. What really made this place meh was their not-so-friendly wait staff. Aside from being brusque, they tried to rip us off on the tip. Their menu clearly states that they will charge 18.5% tip on large parties, so that's pretty standard. What was shady was when they actually tacked on 20% tip instead. That part didn't upset us, especially since they agreed to split the bill. However it was so wrong, when they took the liberty of keeping an extra $3 change in change from one of my friends, effectively making the tip nearly 35%! So if you decide to go, stick with the guac and sangria, and count your change! read more

Just driving through Asheville on the way to Charlotte and stopped in for lunch. The place smelled great and the menu was amazing, so we went in and we were sooooo happy we did! We got two of the daily specials, the Caribbean Colombo Pork Crepes and the Salmon Wild Mushroom Quesadilla. Um. YUM!!! The salsas with each were radically different, yet, perfect for each dish. The portions were huge and the flavors were out of this world! Someone back there knows what they're doing!!! Amazing place. Will for sure be back anytime I'm nearby!!! read more

I posted this on Trip Adviser a few weeks ago but forgot to add it here. So here ya go. Last weekend at the suggestion of a friend myself and another friend decided to visit Chorizo. I am a resident of Asheville and have not been so I was anxious. We waited at the hostess stand for several minutes when a young lady appeared. She ask if she could help us, I said a table for 2 please. She looked puzzled and then said let me check inside. After several minutes she reappeared and ask if she could help us. LOL. I reminded her we wanted a table for 2. She said "oh yeah. i went inside and like 5 things happened to me". I said ok, but can we get a table. She went back inside. Came out and ask if we wanted to sit outside. Sure I said. We sat down and began looking at the menu. I noticed who I thought was our waitress as she was serving 2 tables near us. She looked at us directly but did not approach. After 5 minutes I ask the hostess who our waitress was and could we get some water. She said she would handle it. Several minutes went by, no water, no waitress. So I ask if there was a manger on duty and was told no. I thought this was odd for a Saturday night at 7:30pm, no manager, ok. So again I ask can we get some water and a waitress? I am right on it the hostess responded. The waitress walked out, looked at us, turned around and went back inside. A few minutes later the waitress came back out and engaged the table near us that had been sat 10 minutes after us. At that point I realized we had been there for 15-20 minutes with no service. I wondered were we being discriminated against because we are gay? Surely not in Asheville. But to obviously look at us on several occasions and still not acknowledge us was very strange. So of course we left and found another restaurant. Where we got water and service within several minutes. I have eaten at many of our restaurants in Asheville and have always had good to excellent service. Chorizo was horrible. And they weren't crazy busy, several open tables. I love the food in Asheville, but the service goes hand in hand. Chorizo.....you need some new training. read more

Don't listen to these nay-sayers, this place is awesome! Much better than Hector's other restaurants - including Salsas. Very fresh latin fare food. The place is a little small and they use a giant table as an office (kinda funny), but the food is excellent. Go here and enjoy your oversized plate of food! read more

Really wanted to like this place but my seafood paella was served with mussels that looked like they had been cooked for a week. They replaced them, but the new ones weren't much better. I am not one to give out five stars very often, but I felt Chorizo deserved it. We went there for dinner and came away feeling very satisfied with the food and the service. The waitress' suggestions were spot on, the food fabulous, and they even brought water out for our dog. The various paella made it tough to choose but the suggested one was awesome. This is a favorite. It's a little hole-in-the-wall on the outside of the Grove Arcade. They serve excellent Latin food including sandwiches,plates, burritos,etc. I love the grilled chicken lunch burrito. Don't miss this place. read more

My wife and I were in asheville and could´nt find any where with an open table. We checked out Chorizo, but neither one of were in the mood for latin food. We finally had no choice and ended up eating here. WOW. We were´nt even that hungry, but we left enthralled. I had the Curry salmon and my wife had the another Salmon dish. First off, the orders were huge. But more importantly, the salmon was perfectly cooked (very hard to find) and amazingly prepared and marinated. Believe it or not, everything on the plate was mind blowingly good. Even the white rice was cooked in a seasoned chicken broth. I´m picky about food, and usually don´t appreciate the fancy restaurants with fake big city food (like Travinia), and this place was great! My wife and I talked about the food the whole next day we were so impressed, and we are used to eating in Madrid, Paris, New York, etc. read more

Disclaimer: I have only eaten dinner here once, and it was good (Salsa's is still better) but BREAKFAST! I eat breakfast here at least 1-2 times a month. This is one of my favorite breakfast spots in AVL. Even if you eat here when they first open at 9ish, don't plan on being hungry for lunch, it is a lot of food. And don't plan on waiting in line if you are an early bird- they usually don't fill up until a little later. The service is always friendly and efficient. Prices are decent. The ambience is very cool - its a small place, so it could get noisy atlhough I have never noticed that it has. The menu varies, but I have yet to order something that I didn't like. I am always impressed by how fresh everything is (the waiter tells me there is no freezer in the joint, and even the fridge is small). The arepas and tamales are pretty tasty. When the have a molcajete on the breakfast menu, go for it, you can't lose. Last time, I got the marzipan pancakes and had to stop myself from licking the plate. So why not 5 stars? The coffee. I know, I know but STILL- I need good coffee for breakfast. It is drinkable, but just barely. If this place got a cappuccino machine, I would be in heaven. read more

Food is a three, service is a five, so I give it a four, but the food could easily be elevated to a four. We went because we had read about the Latin style breakfasts, which I am a big fan of. Menu was great with a Venezuelan, Mexican, Colombian titled dishes, also Papusas, which are Salvadorean, and I love. Server was great, she answered our questions and made recommendations. She made a nice suggestion that I could get a second Papusa for only an additional two dollars. Both of our dishes had deliciously seasoned thinly sliced steak. The only negative was that the eggs were overcooked. It's important with these dishes to have the runny yolk spill all over the dish. Also the beans were cold. I mentioned this to the waitress, not to complain but to help them improve, since I like the place. She told me that someone else had also mentioned the overcooked eggs. She thanked me for taking the time to let them know, and gave us a 10% discount on bill. this was unnecessary, but appreciated. So many great breakfast places in Asheville, but I will be back. read more

I really try to avoid the dreaded 1 Star review, but this one is wholly deserved. Why even have an establishment if you can't do the bare essentials? Sure, you may be able to cook but I wouldn't have a clue because I walked out after waiting far too long to be seated or even served water. They weren't busy in the least. They weren't understaffed. They just failed to give a damn. I would say going here was a waste of my life, but I did have a chance to use the toilet, which gave me better service than the staff at Chorizo. Don't waste your time getting treated poorly when there are dozens of better restaurants within a stone's throw. read more

Sweet brunch menu! We had Sunday brunch here and really enjoyed it. There were not many customers when we got there (10am), but it started to fill in as time went on (still not crowded). Service was good, especially by Asheville standards. There were many innovative latin dishes and drinks to choose from, but we decided on the steak omelet and pancake chicken/sausage plate. Both were enormous portions, tasty, and included latin staples like mango salsa, beans, tortillas, guacamole, etc, etc. The homemade hot sauce is incredible! Chorizo was recommended by friends. I enjoyed the service and the atmosphere, but my meal was just okay. I ordered a vegetable enchilada that just wasn't very flavorful. Stopped by to have some brunch on a Sunday morning. Decided outside because we brought the dog. The hostess was great! She made every effort to accommodate our large party. I went a while back with a friend on the night that Joe Rogan performed at the Civic Center. It's the first time I had been there and my friend had been several times. I wasn't blown away by the food or the service. He told me that it had gone down hill as from when he had been last time. Really expensive for the quality of what you get. read more

We got take out. The guac was really good. The burritos were also good in flavor but extremely hard to eat the way they cut them in half... never have I ever had a burrito cut like that? I hadn't been there in a couple years, but I was in Asheville today and remembered the food being very good. I was surprised to see ropa vieja on the menu as it's not a Cuban restaurant. I grew up eating Cuban food in the Keys, so I was a little apprehensive about ordering it. But, I knew it would be tasty even if not authentic. And, that's just what it was. A very tasty dinner. When I ordered I made sure to tell the waitress of my allergy to cilantro. (It's not severe but it makes my mouth go numb and feel funny in addition to tasting like soap) My food came out with cilantro all inside of it. My boyfriends fajitas came out with apples in them. Wouldn't apple be listed as an ingredient on the menu? When I pointed out the cilantro she asked if I was sure that it wasn't parsley. Hmm this food that makes my mouth go numb when I eat it yeah I'm pretty sure it's cilantro. She apologized and asked if she could get us something else when we said no she told us there would be no charge and we left. Ok this is the second time I've eaten at Chorizos. Both times have been excellent. Earlier in the year, April, we ate brunch outside on the street seating. The food was excellent, the sauce superb. Recently, Black Friday, we had tapas items. The Madeira Spanish pizza with goat cheese and artichokes was wonderful and the sautéed shrimp with mojo sauce served with garlic and toasted bread was so good. Both visits stood out to me for the fresh flavors and ingredients AND the genuine atmosphere. Really good food! read more

This place was pretty good! We stopped in for lunch, and left feeling satisfied. I had arepas with egg and chicken, and there was so much food on my plate that there was no way for me to finish it. The flavors were a little mild for my taste, but the hot sauce here is so delicious that I think I may have single handedly used half a bottle. I also had a sangria. The sangria was not the best - the only fruit I could find in my glass was lemon and orange rind, and in addition to being inedible these citrus flavors made the sangria too tart for my liking. The service could have been a bit friendlier, but was not bad by any means. Overall, I thought the food was tasty, inexpensive, and with a great variety. I would eat here again. read more

My husband and I stumbled upon this place while walking in Asheville. We sat outside and it made for good people watching. Our waitress was attentive and friendly and the service was nice. The food was pretty good, nothing to write home about, I wouldn't run back here but it wasn't bad. There are so many amazing places for food in Asheville that it makes it hard to rate it above 3 stars. However, the salmon dish was delicious!! We also got the Key Biscayne Paella which wasnt that great and the 5 layer dip which was not that great. These are the same owners of Salsa's as well.. I may try to go there next time. read more

Always a good time and a great meal. We love Chorizo for just about any occasion. Service is friendly, food is generally stellar but always at least damn tasty. Portions are huge and prices are reasonable. What more could you ask for? Oh, and a happy dearth of hipsters. We had 4 kids under 5 plus 9 adults. The service was fast, friendly, patient and very attentive. The food was fit for foodies. An excellent assortment of South American dishes. After visiting the Biltmore Estate we decided to see what was going on in downtown Ashville NC. After about a 45 minute walk around finding a lot of options and awsome street entertainment we decided on Chorizo - mostly latin flavors. It was an amazing choice. We were there on a Tuesday, luckily and they have $5 margaritas! BONUS! And they were top notch. Make sure you order the chips and guacamole - it's home made and has a kick. Atmosphere is very good and the staff is very friendly. I had a pork dish. The dish had black beans, plaintains topped with an amazingly rich and tender pork. If we are ever back - we will be knocking down the doors. If you are in Asheville - GO THERE! read more

We will definitely eat here again. The food was very good and the wait staff attentive and friendly. They have a homemade hot sauce that is not over the top but adds a little zest to the meal. The restaurant isn't overly decorated as it is pretty basic but trendy. There are a few tables for dining outside. The tables inside are not very sturdy and a little worn. Very good, but I wasn't blown away. I had the Chicken Thailandes. It was prepared well. I was hoping for more heat since Habeneros are in the description. It had a nice sweet curry flavor.
