We have very nice wood windows. Only problem was our windows were foggy because the double pane glass lost the seal. We looked at alternatives. Every company we talked to wanted to completely replace our windows, frames and all. It was expensive and the new windows did not match our decor. Why would anyone want to completely replace their perfectly good wood windows (frames and all) with fiberglass or vinyl when Chosen can simply, effectively and quickly replace just the glass with good, clear, insulated glass? Our Chosen estimator was on-time, friendly and knowledgeable. Crew was also on time, friendly and very careful in and around our home. Our replacement required taking the old window out of a painted wood frame without damaging the frame or the rubber boot around the frame. The crew removed the window and replaced it with absolute precision and zero damage to the frame or the boot. We hired Chosen Windows to rehab our windows in our 1923 bungalow. We were mostly happy with the end result from Chosen Windows, but they were a huge pain to work with. One of their guys was very rude to me, and they had to come back several times to finish up stuff they should have done in the first round of work. It seemed that they had allotted a certain number of days for the job, and when that time was up, they just wanted to get to the next job, even though there were things left undone on our window rehab. We were very accommodating and told them it was fine, but that was a mistake, because it dragged on for months. We were too nice and they took advantage of that. In the end, it was a nightmare to get them to come back simply to finish the work, and that's when one of their workers was incredibly rude to me. And when I say mostly happy, that is because in one window (out of about 12 total windows), the spring system failed and it slammed down on my fingers. I was trapped, with both sets of fingers smashed between the upper and lower panes, and no way to get out. Luckily, my husband hadn't yet left for work yet, so he was able to hear me yelling for help. My fingers on my right hand are still pretty messed up. They swell up from time to time. My rings don't fit anymore because those knuckles are bigger now. I'm not even really upset about that (shit happens, it's not like I was critically injured), but even after THEIR work smashed my hands, they wouldn't come back to fix it. We called and called and called, and they literally would not schedule a time to come back. They always have some excuse about how busy they are. We told them, "I don't care, your product doesn't work..." So we gave up on Chosen Windows. It's pretty ridiculous that they have such bad customer service. We are having another company come to fix that window, and paying again for it - time and materials. So, in the end, all but one of the windows are great, the double pane they added into our original windows is very nice and cut down on draftiness substantially. And the ones that work slide and work very well... double hung and nice to be able to open both the top and the bottom. However, because their customer service was SO AWFUL, I cannot recommend them. read more

Horrid (with a capital "H") customer service! Office staff tries, but owner and management are slow in response and disingenuous in practice. After waiting over two weeks for a representative to come to our home and bid a wood window repair and rehab job, he arrived and professionally started his review and measuring of the job. As he was leaving, he noticed our front door had some molding problems and small pane of fogged glass. He asked if he could bid that job also. I explained that we already had bids in from other vendors to complete the door work but if he quickly turned a quote we would consider Chosen for that work also. When the bid came in, the door repair pricing was out of line so I let them know if they wanted the door business they would need to be more competitive. The owner replied himself stating if we did not give him the door repair business, he would not do the original window job! I gave Chosen a good faith last minute chance to bid the door work and they held the window work hostage. Bad faith dealing all around. We wasted over a month on these folks. Stay away! read more

Chosen Wood Windows Review - April 20, 2020 Our house was built in 1939. Back in 2013 We noticed that the large picture window in our living area was deteriorating, and we looked into replacement options. The window frame around the window was made with a mahogany which would have been hard to replace. That was the first time we used "Chosen Wood Windows." They claimed to be able to fix our outside problem, but also to put a slip over the original window, which would provide more insulation to the room. They also claimed to be able to take a regular sized window (example: ~ 46" x 52"), replace the single pane with double panes, and secure the window back into its frame using a new opening system which would replace the old weighted system it was originally built with.. We decided to test their claim by having just one of our regular windows fixed at the same time as the large window was being worked on. They did this all from a truck in our driveway. We were so impressed with their work on both windows that we decided at some future point to convert the rest of the windows on the main floor of our house. That future point happened in May of 2018. We started the process of negotiating with "Chosen Wood Windows" to fix 10 windows on our main floor, and 2 windows in our basement. We should have been suspicious when the representative from the company who we had contacted in May, took longer than usual to respond to our initial request. Vacations got in the way, but after some back and forth with him, he sent a representative out to give us an estimate. We were then put on the schedule for the third week in August. This time, instead of doing the work on our premises, they took all of the windows out of their frames, and boarded up all of the main floor window openings. This was very difficult to live with. The work ended up taking one week longer than anticipated because of the Labor Day holiday. Their work days were not consecutive. There were a few days when they did not come because they were working somewhere else. We were told they were working in the shop at these times, but the team on the job did not verify that. We were also told that when the windows came back after the panes were replaced, all we would have to do is paint or re-stain them. However, when they extracted the windows from the mahogany frames, there was a lot of damage done both to the window wood and to the inside frames. I pointed this out to some of the workers on site. The second day of the extraction I was told that one of the crew members was switched out because he was new to the process, and not careful enough extracting the original windows. (At that point the work crew knew there had been damage.) We expected that by taking all of the windows to the shop to be transitioned, that they would fix the damage that was done during the extraction. We also expected that when they came back to restore the windows to their appropriate places, that they would fix the damage done to the frames. Unfortunately that was wrong thinking on our part. The crew was allotted a fixed amount of time to get the windows back in place. It was a rushed job. As a result, in several cases, the restored windows do not seal at all. Several of them do not lock because the older locks could not be secured in the same holes, evidently according to contract, they don't fill holes. Even when it's an important hole like the one securing the locking mechanism. In several cases, the wooden strips that keep the window sealed when the slides up and down, were incorrectly replaced resulting in spaces on the sides. This means being able to see the ground outside the replaced window from the inside of the room. The windows are a lot worse at keeping the cold out then they were before this company worked on them. One of the two basement windows which opened before the renovation, was sealed completely shut, without the opening hardware restored. The sill on that same window was supposed to be replaced because of wood rot. But in the end there was not enough time allotted to fixing the problem. I asked if they would be back on Monday to finish the job and minimize the damage, but was told that at they would be moving on to another job and not coming back. I did not realize that the windows were so poorly done until they had finished their work and were gone. The only test I was asked to perform was to open one of the windows in my kitchen that had the weights replaced with the new system. Once we realized how much damage had been done, we put in a call to the manager. After several unreturned messages, I talked to the secretary about the problem. She suggested that I send pictures along with a note to her, and she would forward these to the owner. In the end, there was never any response from the owner. It has taken me a long time to get over my anger and write this review. My recommendation: Don't use this company! read more

Also one of the so-called professional employees damaged my flooring by dropping tools from a latter. Messed up 10k on my hard wood floor. 2.5 stars. In short, much of the work was well done but given the poor communication and poor carry-through, we would not recommend Chosen as your window contractor. To give more of the story, we had contacted Chosen in May to repair a number of window sills suffering from dry-rot in our newly-purchased but built-in-1927 house. Their bid came in a little on the higher side but it felt like a worthwhile investment to go with a company that specialized only in windows, especially windows in old homes. While we were at it, we also chose to bring several windows up to better efficiency by installing slips (a second windowpane) on them; one window, a large one, required a new sash to be built in order to accommodate the additional glass. We understood that summer was their busy season and agreed at the beginning of June to a start date the first week of July. We were told this would be a 3-day project which was great because that would leave us plenty of time to have everything done for when we moved in on July 31. The project start was delayed by a day (no big deal) but then it was stymied by the lack of the sash for our large living room picture window. Their excuse was that they didn't have one ready -- for a project that they had known about for more than 4 weeks. The sash was then built and installed on July 31st, but several calls to the office during that time yielded no communication as to when we could expect it to be ready. Instead, we received a call on a Thursday afternoon asking if they could come by first thing the next day. Once that was done, we were just waiting on the painting. Fast forward another few weeks, to mid-August, and we're still waiting for the sills, sash and trim to be painted. We had been informed in the beginning that Chosen did not do their own painting. Because of that, we had tried to get the name of their recommended painter so we could contact him ourselves and make sure we had him lined up. However, we were told that Vern (the owner) would take care of it. Throughout July and the beginning of August, numerous calls and emails yielded no definitive answer on when the painting would start. Communication was with Katie in the office who was nice but just had no information for us. Vern himself (or any other management person) never called to clarify what was going on. The final straw was when we were told that the recommended painter could "squeeze us in" in another 3 weeks after he finished a new project he would be starting the following week (which was already many weeks after we'd been peppering Chosen with questions about the painting process). We understand that there are things out of Chosen's control, but 1) they need to have a better relationship with their partners and 2) they need to be better communicators. If we had known that the process would be so drawn out, we would have just gotten painters ourselves. Two rainstorms on our unpainted new sills and nearly 5 weeks after we were told the project would be done, that is what we are doing. We hope no one else has to go through this process. Please choose yourselves a more reliable outfit than Chosen. read more

My husband and I were really excited about the possibility of refurbishing our old wood windows. Refurbishment seemed to be an efficient and cost-effective alternative to new window installation. Unfortunately our experience with Chosen was very disappointing. While the actual glass replacement went fairly smoothly, the finish work was sloppy and unprofessional. We were surprised that the job was considered "done" several times before it was actually completed. In the end, we elected to do some minor finish work ourselves rather than try to coordinate a final Chosen visit to our home. Ultimately we are concerned that our windows are in fact less efficient than before Chosen performed this job. Here are a few concrete examples of our concerns: Weather stripping was inconsistently installed in our windows (some were on inside of bottom sash, some were on inside of top sash). Other sashes were cut for weather stripping, but no weather stripping was installed. Technicians had to come back again to install weather stripping on the windows they missed. The "fuzzy tabs" referred to in the Chosen video were not installed in any of our windows, leaving significant gaps for airflow. You could actually see the ground outside while looking through the crack inside the house. When we expressed concern to the technician, he stapled a small piece of tubular foam insulation into one of the cracks and considered the job complete. After extensive back and forth with Chosen staff, the technicians were finally sent out again to fill the holes with "fuzzy tabs." These were also sloppily installed: some are clearly visible when the windows are closed. Still others did not get the tabs at all, even though the sashes clearly had gaps. We found one "fuzzy tab" stuck to one of our kitchen cabinets. During his final visit, the technician also cracked the wood of one of our window sashes and left it unrepaired. Fortunately my husband was able to glue the sash back together. Finally, Vern assured us that the sashes would be taken to the truck for sanding and cutting to minimize lead paint contamination. In practice, the technicians left a TON of paint chips in the areas around the windows - both in the soil outside and flooring inside our house. This continued until my husband requested they at least use a tarp to contain potential lead hazards. Fortunately we do not have young children, but we are planning to start a family soon and are very concerned about potential lead hazards in our home. I would definitely NOT recommend using Chosen for your window refurbishment project. This written feedback was also provided to Chosen staff. They apparently did not feel it justified a response. read more

Had different hinges installed on 3 windows along with fixing some adjuster bar pins so they would operate again correctly. Chosen Wood Window Maintenance originally had unstuck, "true-ed" and installed double paned low-e insulated glass in all the windows in my 1911 bungalow about 7-8 yrs ago. At that time, I had them install traditional casement window hardware/adjusters. However with time, I have wanted to install screens and chose to have them turn over all the casements upstairs to Whitco hinges. They have always been positive, professional and easy to work with throughout the years. I'm glad they are around as a resource for old windows. I have always felt keeping the old windows with the new window slips was the best way to go in order to maintain our beautiful wide window sills and have insulated windows. They know what they are doing and care about a positive outcome for the window(s) and owner. Chris and Will took the extra time to fix one of the windows showing some wear and tear that I had mentioned with wood putty or epoxy and sanded it down to a beautiful sharp and true edge. They also inspected and fixed or re-installed new weather stripping on the windows as needed. They took the time to clean up and not leave a mess, reviewed with me the work done, took exactly the time quoted to complete the job, and were just great guys. This company was chosen by the previous owner to fix a broken window. The original purchase date was in May. We knew on closing the window would not be installed but was told it would be no later than the second week of June. After moving into the house we gave them a month and then called to check the status. After a few left messages the receptionist finally called back to say the window was still on order and would call when it came in. After not hearing from them for a few weeks we called back and was told the window was in and they would be scheduling installation later that day. Two days later we called back and she finally scheduled it. We called the morning of delivery to confirm and she said they broke the window putting it on the truck so it had to be reordered. After waiting two weeks we contacted them again and delivery was finally scheduled however when they came to install it ended up being the wrong window. So after the third window order and two more weeks, it was delivered and installed. However, the crank did not fit the window, so the installers said they would order a new one and let us know when it came in, should be a few weeks. A month later we called and the receptionist she said was scheduling about a week out but would get back to us in a day or so with date of delivery and installation. We have continued calling back leaving messages with no response. Three weeks ago on a Thursday we left one very blunt final message telling them we would be contacting the BBB, a lawyer and the news media if they did not call us to fix this issue by 5pm on Friday. And we have yet to hear from them. read more

We are delighted with Chosen Wood Windows! We had worked with them several years ago when they replaced two long banks of floor to ceiling windows in our living room. We have been very pleased with those windows and when it came time to replace the bank of kitchen windows, also floor to ceiling with garden windows joining at the top, we called them for the job! John and Taylor were timely, tidy and personable! I am so grateful to have this company available to help us keep the beautiful character of our Northwest Contemporary townhome! We had three Pella Bay windows with the typical dry rot on the lower sills that occurs in Oregon after 20 years of exposure. Chosen redid them for about 1/3 (or less) of what it would cost to replace them. They were prompt, held to their estimate, and the crew that did the work was very neat and professional. The windows now look great. I would not hesitate to use them again or recommend them. There are some negative reviews from a few years ago. We had none of those problems. Give them a call if you have old windows that need a facelift. read more

I had my windows replaced by Chosen in May. Management was very informative of the process of installation and window choices. I was concerned because my house is older and I wanted to maintain that character. Everything couldn't have gone more smoothly. The installation team came to measure when he said they would, the windows came when they said they would, and the crew returned and replaced all windows in one day. Their punctuality and professionalism was impressive! Also, my house was left spotless. I would never have known the installation had taken place other than my beautiful refurbished windows. I feel as if my issues were shared in detail by previous reviews so I will not go in to detail. I just wish I had read them before I hired Chosen. I would not recommend this company. They don't answer emails, their scheduling is difficult and the quality of work is poor. We were considering replacing all the windows in our house and did one as a test. It was not more energy efficient, the window was damaged more then it was before they started and I felt we spent $500 with zero results. If you are thinking about restoring your windows through Chosen I would recommend just buying a new energy efficient windows. I am glad we only did one window and not the whole house! read more

We had a really great experience with Chosen wood Windows. Very easy to work with and figure out times with my crazy work schedule. They followed a strict dead line and their quality of work was amazing. Unlike most construction companies we have used, they didn't leave mud trails through the house, showed up in the window of time that was agreed upon and again, the quality was great! Two stars might be generous. I don't enjoy giving bad reviews but in this case I feel they have more than earned my opinion. This company came highly-recommended to me for old window insulation and repairs. I don't know what happened but they botched handling my order and I won't use them again. They were expensive, and in the end I was not very impressed with their product. Their 'slips' are nothing more than thin glass panes surrounded by a thin metal channel. It is screwed onto your old wood sashes. Nothing fancy about that! So why is it so expensive? I expected a more high-end product: They could at least use brass screw inserts so my 100 year-old sashes won't be ruined by repeated taking off and putting back of their cheap screws each spring as the windows are washed. The sales person didn't have a sample with him the day he measured and my expectations were not met by the product. In addition, their customer service is non-existent. There were three no-shows for installation appointments, and they used plastic sheeting and duct tape to secure a ground floor window while repairing the sashes. As if the plastic were any protection against intruders. They did use a more rigid material after I complained. Bottom line: Think twice about these guys and get a second bid. read more
