Up until I ate at Chowderhead, the word chowder meant a thick creamy soup with lots of potatoes and other ingredients. Both the Clam and Elote at Chowderhead are basically spicy creams sprinkled with very little else. The atmosphere is cozy in appearance. read more

Wow! Just wow! My wife and I came here for lunch after looking at reviews, and I'm very happy with our decision. The place is a small, hip and welcoming. My wife had the Steelhead smoked chowder and kimchi fried chicken sandwich; I had the roasted pork chili and cheesesteak sandwich. Everything was outstanding! Service was friendly and efficient. She gave us plenty of napkins which was great because the sandwiches were large in size and dripping with wonderful flavors. I absolutely recommend this place! Everything was filthy in this place. Customer facing, filth. I can only imagine what's going on in the back. I will not be going back. Found Chowderhead on the results for 5 Best Lunch places in Spokane. My husband and I met with another couple for luch there. First time in for all 4 of us. The place was small, but still managed to seat a fair number of people. We all really loved what we ordered. The place was not fancy, but comfortable, and they had good music playing. The rest room was down a hall in the back. It was fine; we relaxed and enjoyed our time there. The men both ordered the Turkey Bacon Pesto sandwich and both loved it. And, man, the turkey was piled high..!!! I ordered the Hot Italian Beef sandwich and it was also piled high with brisket. The 'giardiniera' on top was great with a sweet tangy type sauce to it that really complimented the brisket... could have been the garlic mayo or the chili oil. My friend ordered the meatball sandwich and she raved over how good that was. All 4 of us had the Chowder for a side, and all agreed on how much we liked it; great flavor and texture. Besides the food, one of the things that was pleasing was that the server came, was pleasant, took our orders, and came back when needed, Just the right amount of attention, so we could have a conversation. Seriously so good. Unfortunately they were out of the cheese chop and cheese steak sandwich when we arrived Saturday for an early dinner. My husband and I got the pork sandwich, a cup of the elote chowder and a side of fries. Oh, we also split a bowl of the steal head clam chowder. The elote chowder was sooooooo flavorful. It's a defininatly must try. The sandwiches were good and the fries were perfect. The bowl of chowder was good but the elote chowder was so much better. We will be back to try other sandwiches. Just had Lunch at the Chowder Head. Very disappointed. Order the meatball sandwich. The flavor was good but served on an untoasted hoagie bun it was disgusting. The bun turned into gooey yuck!! The clam chowder was just ok. Our server brought the bill and never asked if we might want something else. I had to call her over to ask for more coffee. I ordered BLT and the bread should have been toasted, but it wasn't and it wasn't a true BLT. The menu says thick bacon but only a few pieces. We ordered the chowder which was delivered to the table long after we received the sandwich so we were almost done with the sandwich. The BLT was expensive and I will never order it again. The soup should have been delivered at the same time the sandwich was served to the table. The water was warm, no ice and the server never came by and asked if we needed anything else. Holy cow. This place surpassed my expectations. We ordered through Treehouse and got the chopped cheese and turkey bacon sandwiches, clam, and steelhead chowders. Both chowders were great but the sandwiches blew us away. The chopped cheese has tons of flavor and it's a pretty big portion. I tried not to eat it all but I couldn't help it, it was that good. My husband said the bread on his turkey bacon sandwich was fresh and soft, and that it was the BEST sandwich he's ever had.
