This place must be run by teenagers. This place is not at all together, no manager on duty and everyone wants to just stand around and talk about the customers. Came in and placed my order with one of the gals and sat down. The time was 12:37pm. Went across and got something from the other store came back and sat. The gal that originally helped me went on break, she was eating at one of the tables. The guy behind the register that took over didn't care about the food sitting bagged with my drinks. People came and went and still I sat thinking we were waiting on my lumpia.. But no. My food was just sitting there for 10 minutes. DOES NOT OPEN AT 7 AM! Came here on a regular weekday to grab breakfast before work. I tried to open the door at 7:05, locked. I did see a worker inside but she didn't open the door. So maybe I was thinking I'm a bit early. I decided to go to the next door bakery. At 7:15, I decided to walk back to Chow King. Door is still locked!! What a cool name, the name reminds me of Chun King's mass marketed Chinese food (Which tasted ok, but the name was very romantic to me somehow). This fast-food place has a nice professional looking menu and nice looking containers as well. But the food lacks quality and the flavor lacks punch. The chicken tasted ok but lacked flavor that the picture on the menu seems to promise, it was just chicken. The leg had enough meat on its bone but the other piece was mostly bones (I don't know but looked like chicken thigh). I came here for the soup noodles that looked like ramen. In short it was just ok. The noodles left raw wheat powder-like after taste, not bad but not entirely pleasant. Overall it left me wanting something more no matter how much I try to like the place. Man, when I was in the Philippines this was my go to spot. Only because my Americanized palate was too picky to try anything else. And when I saw that Chow King came to the U.S. I was like aww man I got to go there for old times sake. It took me a while. But when I did I was so dissapointed. The palabok was salty, the siopao was skimpy on the meat. And the service was lousey. They all looked at me like I didn't belong there. I hate filipinos like that. I haven't really had the food here...but I have had their dessert a couple of times. This review is based more on just my multiple occasions of dessert take out. I enjoy their Taho. It's so warm and comforting. A great non-draining dessert to have any time of the day. Service is kind...I'll definitely always be back for the Taho! read more

Chowking - Taho for $3.50 yum! - Chinese Near Me - Carson, California

I decided to give the Chinese-Filipino dishes at Chow King a try after shopping at the neighboring Sea Food City supermarket. I had briefly checked out its rating on Yelp and on seeing the two start rating thought that most people were being too harsh with Chow King and they may throw a surprise. The short version is that I was wrong on at least one front. As I walked in I saw a couple of people eating in and a small line. I stood in line and started scanning the menu board. When my turn came I went with the beef wonton noodle soup ($5.99) which comes with three pieces of shumai (they currently have some promotion where you this free with the noodle soup), chicken siopao ($1.99) and a Taho ($3.49). After sitting patiently for almost 20 minutes I decided to remind them about my order. It seems it was sitting on the counter and no one had bothered to call my name or number. They have a weird way of operating - once you order the person taking your order shouts and I mean screams the order to the people in the kitchen (don't they have a PoS to do that?) but don't bother calling out your number when the order is ready so people in the know crowd around the counter waiting for their food. Anyway a hassled looking manager finally handed me my order and I was off. On reaching home I realized that they had not given me the Taho (a hot sweet dish made with Tofu and boba in sweet sugar syrup) so I decided to confront them and get that. This is easier said that done, I had to fight for parking in the miserable lot and by the time I went in I was ready to explode. Thankfully the server did not question my integrity about the shortfall in the order and simply gave me an order or Taho and I was off again. Second attempt at eating was obviously not good. All the food had turned stone cold so I heated the broth for the noodles and gave it a go. The noodles have a consistency of baby food and even a toothless person will be able to just squash them with their tongues. I felt these were one of the worst noodles that I had had and felt that packaged noodles bought from a supermarket would be better. The siopao was not too bad, it was edible but the slightly sweet taste of the bun takes a little getting used to. Of course it would have been much better if it was a little hot rather than its stone cold form. The Taho was the best item in the lot. The tofu was not the best that I'd had but it was pretty good. The slightly savory taste of tofu with the mildly sweet sugary syrup and boba went well together. In conclusion the two star rating reflecting I've had better is aptly suited for Chow King. I'll probably come back for their Taho and may also pick up a siopao while i'm at it. read more

Slow service. Crew couldnt get the order right. We ordered for 3 Meaty Wonton Noodles and waited for 15 mins.. that was fine, okay..but when our order finally arrived, they gave us just 1 order! So we had to wait for the 2 orders which are supposed to be for DINE IN as well but apparently, they prepared as "TO GO". Oh another thing, idk what's the use of their buzzer pager when they just call out the order numbers. Mind you the device isn't even working! Service is bad I ordered 3 halo halo and when it came out ice cream is melting. When I tasted it some of the ingredient is sour which supposed not too but almost taste like panis. I asked several times for 1 plastic bag for my halo halo caused I didn't finish it and cashier/server christine just ignored me. I know she needs to attend some customer too but the plastic is just beside the table where some of the ready foods will be served. Can't she just grab one before she takes another order? Its just one hand away from the food table. When I left to get my bag my mom stand up and she ask it her herself. And I was wondering. Why do their supervisor or team member letting someone walk in and out to their work area just wearing shorts, shirts and slippers when I think their not on duty that time. Its ok to talk to your workmates but at least do it in a proper way. Like in a break room or rest area. Not like customers seeing them just getting some pineapple juice in a can and bring it on their table. Just be proper at least just ask someone who's working to get it for you. Cause you know Cleanliness is a priority in your establishment And addition to that is safety of everyone else. What if that person slide in your work area because he was wearing slippers. it's true what some of the reviewers have said. go here only if u are hungry. i like some of the food but the service is horrible, or more accurately, non-existent. i ordered a lauriat combo meal but with no pancit (just rice). of course when i got it, it had pancit and rice. when i went up to the counter and told them, one of the workers took the box back and started putting the pancit back into the serving area, mixing it with the already existing food. i had to ask them to put my food in a clean container, b/c when i say i don't want pancit, that doesn't mean they should just take it out, add rice, and give me the same container. i could be allergic to what is inside the pancit, and although they took it out, there will be some remnants of it in the container. they should have given the food back in a clean container. but more importantly, i also told them that what they were doing was unsanitary. i told the 3 workers there that i could have coughed into the food, touched it, or started eating it. all had blank faces and didn't understand that what they were doing was wrong. i then asked to speak to a manager and repeated what i told the previous workers, and he also had a blank look on his face. i told him i could be a health inspector or that i could contact a health inspector, and still, there was no reaction. i had to ask him, "u do realize that what u are doing is unsanitary?" he said yes, but i really don't think he got it, nor do i think this was a teachable moment for him. i would say, 4 out of 10 times they've gotten my orders wrong in the past. in fact, i've witnessed them doing this very thing previously. and, in addition, one of the customers in front of me was complaining that his order was wrong too. if they are that bad about getting orders correct and have to replace yr order, if yr worried about contamination or just being sanitary, i would watch them re-dish yr plate. imagine how many times they've put used food back into the mix. i am actually recovering from a cold and am still coughing. i didn't cough into the food that was placed back to re-serve to other customers but imagine that happening. or with other ppl. u have no idea what germs are being mixed into yr food. read more

Let's start by saying that I've been here three times, but just for their Halo-Halo. You can say, I've had better, but locally, it's not bad. I was in the mood for fried chicken, and remembered that Chow King sells their fried chicken. I ordered the Crispy Fried Chicken Lauriat and the Garlic Chicken Lauriat. These rice combo meals comes with Canton style noodles, Sui Mai, Sesame Seed Balls, a scoop of rice and a soda for $4.99. Overall, I enjoyed these fried chicken combo meals; not great, but not bad. At this point, I'll give 3.5 stars for the food I just had. They are a little disorganized behind the counter. I didn't read any reviews so I didn't have any expectation. With only 2.5 stars from 40 reviews, this Filipino eatery has been put in the same level as McDonalds, Jack in the Box, Pizza Hut, etc. Their menu is small which serves Chinoy (Chinese-Filipino) type foods. Fast foods will never taste like home cooking, but it is always compared to it. Chow King serves breakfast, so I will have to try it someday. I'll probably return because there is more in life than to spend hours in a kitchen. read more

This is probably the worst Chow King I've had in the U.S.! My coworker and I were at Carson and decided to stop by here for lunch. Their menu is a lot smaller compared to the Chow King in Panorama city and the portions were really tiny despite having the meals labeled as 700+ calories on the menu. The inside decor needs some pep because we don't just come for the food, but also for the atmosphere. In short, it lacks. Disclaimer: This is a Fast Food Chain from the Philippines not gourmet, more comfort food of good advertising than anything else (ie. McDonalds, come on you know you have a guilty pleasure of eating McNuggets even though it is mystery meat). My 1 year young baby loves Chicken porridge, or what my Filipina Mother in Love calls Lugaw, and in Chow King is called Arroz Caldo. They offer a Chow King Special to include a side of Tokwa't Baboy for just a little over $5. I love Tokwa't Baboy, Tofu and pork in a vinegar, soy sauce, which taste sweetened. Combine the two and its perfect. I would prefer going to Manila Sunrise (or Sunset, heck the one on Vermont in LA, not Carson) and get the combo there. But for a quick fix this will do. So there you have it folks. Need that super quick and cheap fix to eating Porridge with fried and yummy goodness on the side; while conveniently getting your groceries. read more

I'm going to be honest with you right now. The only reason I went here was that I desperately needed to pee and I saw Chow King had a restroom. However, I didn't want to be an ass and just use their restroom, so I decided to get the bangus (milkfish) breakfast plate. I haven't eaten in a Chow King in YEARS (and yes, the Chow Kings in the the Philippines are much better), but I gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised. For $5.99 plus tax, I got two nice pieces of the bangus, a fried egg, garlic fried rice, and a soda. The bangus was delicious and the garlic fried rice was very garlicky, just the way I like it. It was a good amount of food. It wasn't the best bangus I've had, but still pretty good. And for the price, it's a great deal. Also, I got my food in like, five minutes, so probably lucked out on that one? So yeah, I'm glad I decided not to be an ass because I got a pretty good meal out of it. read more

It's where the locals go cus it's this Plaza of just Filipino everything. This spot is really fast and convenient if you're feelilng the need for some Filipino Food Fast. They have a great selection of Sweet Drinks which I'm a big fan of. My quick fix is this drink called "taho" (soy drink) with boba. Served freshly warm and the coolness with the soy pudding. We tried: Longanisa and bangus breakfast chow- good but didn't like the bangus too sour. Meaty wonton mami- really good, hot and tasty. Great for a meal or a snack. Chunky asada siopao- good for a,snack. Great for the price too $1.99. Better buy 2 or three, if you want as a meal. Food is really good, hot. Last night, I bought some food at Chow King in Carson California. OMG! Mami chicken and beef are horrible taste. Not enough meat and vegetables. Also they used fake noodles. I think it was ramen from the plastic and they dipped it in hot water to make it soft. The mami soup was salty and greasy. I got sick right away. The pancit bihon and canton are salty and fake noodles from the packed. The siopao bola bola and asado, Yak! No problem with the employees. They are pleasant but the quality of food are horrible. Excellent service, grandma wanted food from here so I ordered her 2 asado siopao but she called me right before receiving my meal and said she wanted something else and to cancel it. The nice workers let me cancel the order and let me get what she want haha They don't serve gravy with the chicken anymore, that threw off my order.
