Overall: Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience. The number one thing was the poor service and secondly was the food quality compared to the price. Atmosphere: The location is excellent. The restaurant indoors and outdoors is cozy. Inside it's a little more loud and echoey and it's an open kitchen. Being in such a good location, rent is probably a lot which drives up the prices of the food, but the quality of the food falls behind. Food: Had the super burrito. Every bite was just beans, rice and some chicken. For a "nicer" place like this I would expect a burrito with something to make it stand out like some guac, soucream, fries, just anything to level it up! The burrito wasn't even wrapped right and was falling apart from all sides and didn't hold the form or a burrito (see picture). The taste was also bland and basic. I've had way better burritos from food trucks for half the price. -Also tried the enchiladas and I was confused because the cheese enchiladas start at $13 (8/21) and to add meat is an additional $4. That just seemed a little excessive. $17 for the most basic chicken enchiladas was 100% not worth it. They were nothing special. The place was also sloppy (see picture). If I'm paying $17 for them I would at least expect a clean plate. -The crispy taquitos come with chefs selection of the day. We go ours with potatoes. The flavor was delicious. They were seasoned and fried perfectly. The only thing I would say is that the tortilla was a little too thick, making it hard to bite into. Service: Very poor service. The waitress we had was not attentive at all. She came to our table only three times. She got our order placed only after we waited for a bit and finally decided to call her over. We ordered the taquitos as an appetizer and apparently she gave them to the wrong table the first time so we got them later on after our food had already arrived. When the food itself arrived she didn't come by to give us utensils or fill our waters so I ended up waving over another waitress. When we were ready with our food we probably waited a solid 10minutes for her to finish sitting at the bar and talk to the bartender before I waved her over to let her know we wanted the check. This experience was definitely not a fact of 'she was having a bad day'. You could tell she was careless, put in little effort and she gave off the impression that she didn't want to be working there. Maybe I should have given this place a 1 star? read more

We have a child with developmental disabilities, as well as craniofacial differences. They are literally not able to eat some foods and also have some sensory based issues around food. Our other children are excellent eaters, but this is a battle we choose not to fight with our youngest. We sat down at Choza ready to order food and drinks and asked for a kids menu and the waiter sneered at us and said "no, it's only for 10 and under". It's obvious the child has special needs, we weren't asking for kids menus for adults, we weren't trying to go cheap on our order, and there was literally nothing on the menu she would eat. We have never had that experience in any restaurant and it was in very poor form. Sometimes accommodations are necessary and I'm hoping it was just poor business practices and not discrimination. read more

Margaritas tasted good but no evidence there was any tequila in 'em. Food too salty. Service extremely slow and highly inattentive despite restaurant being half empty. Hubby and I have been searching for a good Mexican restaurant near us and I think we may have found one that we wouldn't mind going back to. Choza is located in the Bridgeport Shopping Center, across from Ways & Means Oyster House. The space is modern with high ceilings, and has a nice looking bar with comfy leather bar chairs. Not your typical Mexican restaurant decor. They have an extensive margarita and specialty cocktail list so you definitely want to try one when you're there. I have been wanting to come here for a long time. And it was as good as I was hoping. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5, no happy hour anymore. The food was fast and very, very good. The salsa that comes with the chips, sooooo yummy. Our drinks were above average for any Mexican restaurant. Which is what I was hoping for, for the price. There was nothing that we didn't like. Went here for dinner with a friend. We had a long wait for a table, so we decided to sit at the bar. I ordered fullsail sesion and my friend got a negra. We ordered guacamole, verduras tacos, fish taco and a pollo taco. I loved the verduras tacos and the guacamole. My friend said he liked the pollo but the fish wasnt great. This is my third and last time and every single time the service and food are the same , the worse. First time was terrible , awful service and food. Second time , the server pretended not to know that it was happy hour and did not like me ordering from that menu. Server pretty much disappeared after that. The food was fantastic - chips, salsa, tortillas, beans, rice and tacos (Barbacoa, pollo, carnitas, asada and pescado) were all really good. Please try the tacos! Atmosphere was slightly upscale feel for a Mexican restaurant, but still welcoming. I liked that the cantina and restaurant part were separated. Also, I thought that the kitchen was well placed. Music was top 40/ pop style. In my opinion Spanish music would be better suited. Doesn't have to be Mexican music...while personallyI would have enjoyed that, may not be for all. We heard that Choza is very good for margaritas and true Mexican food. I would agree that the margaritas and the tequilas are top shelf. The tacos are authentic filled with lots of meat. The salsa is fresh and taste very down home. The main staple of any Mexican place is the rice and beans. They are the worst tasting rice and beans no flavor at all, please get them fixed. This place is BRUTAL!. Don't waste your time and for sure not your money. The waitress in her early 20s was rude and seemed put out that we asked her for a spoon. Spoon never came of course. Drinks never got refilled. Ordered shrimp tacos. Got some nasty fish tacos. Guy waiter was nice but only saw him once. Steak fajitas only came with 4 tiny tortillas. No one to ask for more. This place has great food. Homemade tortillas are amazing. BUT it's two stars for the fact that your order is more often wrong than right. Then they top it off by acting like you're not paying top dollar and accuse you of not paying for the missing item (which you did pay for, then show them, then they grunt and give you the food). Even the managers are rude and dismissive. I finally found one kind server who did her best to help and actually seemed like she cared. This was the first time in 10 visits. Until the manager fired him right under my nose because Jose was talking to customers and giving good service. This manager Eliael was very rude, unprofessional, and in front of me he fired the waiter, threw his tip at him and told him not to come back. the only thing the waiter did was his work. Making sure that his clients were well taken care of and that nothing was missing. THE MANAGER FIRED HIM UNFAIRLY. Unfortunately it is a place I like to go and I go quite often, but in the way I saw how this manager treats his employees. I DO NOT RECOMMEND Choza nor do I plan to ever return. I feel very sorry for the employees who have to put up with this kind of mistreatment by the manager. and I do not recommend it, nor will I go, until this type of person like Eliael the manager stops working at Choza and treating the workers that way. The food was average at best. I had three tacos: Al Pastor, Asada, Pescado. The first two tacos: the meat was Luke warm, over salted, and tough. The fish in the Pescado was luke warm. The server brought out our entrees before our appetizer....soooo annoying. But it worked out because my husband did not like his food, sent it back, and just ate the app as his meal. Overall a decent flavor profile with the typical onions, lime, fresh tomatoes etc. The homemade tortillas held up well. The staff definitely had some hustle, were all working hard, and they seemed to have an efficient work flow. It was great to see the manager on the floor helping run food and being involved with the employees. This is inside the Bridgeport mall so it is convenient when you're shopping there. The food is all mexican but the ambience is more like that of a trendy pizza place and bar. It was packed on the Saturday evening we went, and the service was understandably a bit slow. There is seating in the bar area that's not at the bar and also not reserved, so if you call and they say no available seating, you can still try these. Drinks and food were good. Do try the queso fundido if you're into that kind of stuff. Based on the price on the menu and the location, we underestimated the portion sizes significantly, so be careful! Enjoy. read more

We got seated in the main part of the restaurant (not in the bar area), in the far end booth by the service station, also, within eye shots of the bartender. Our assigned waiter was also the bartender. This explains why our service was lacking. He's busy making drinks, chatting with bar customers. It took too quite long for our food, even though it wasn't busy. In meantime, we ran out of chips and salsa, waiter MIA. We waited and waited for our appetizers. There were only two other tables of diners in the main restaurant at this time. Don't understand why it took so long for food. When food did finally come, it all came out at once, appetizers and main. We ordered two different margaritas (one was Serrano infused and the other was called Top of the Line) both came out looking exactly the same, except one was infused w/Serrano. They both tasted weak and watered down, even the "Top of the Line". My husband had to order a separate draft beer to add it. Finally, we thought since we're already here, we'd like to also give their desserts a try. We ordered flan and churros. Only churros came out, and we waited some more. Finally, waiter came with our bill, we noticed that he actually did charged us for both desserts. We told him that we never did received the flan. He quickly said, "really? Oh it's behind the counter, let me get it. " At this point of the dinner, I said, " no thanks, we're done waiting ". All in all, drinks description sound fancy @ ($12-15 each) but are weak and watered down. Food pics look great, but like some have mentioned, rice, beans and salsas are bland. Overall it was good. The barbacoa burritos made wet. They don't have green sauce. Mine was the mahi-mahi with A pineapple and mango salsa, I'd give it a three. Good food, nice ambience, friendly service. The cauliflower appetizer was fantastic. There are beers on tap, including a few Mexican and a couple American. The tacos are solid. There are tv's with sports on them. The only downside is that they seated us at a table with one booth seat and one chair. The booth seat was actually at the intersection of two booth benches, so it was INCREDIBLY UNCOMFORTABLE to sit at for a meal. The staff seemed to know about it too, but set up the tables that way anyway. That is just pure negligence toward your customers' comfort. Do not accept this table or seat in the future. read more
