Chris Madrid's has one of the best hamburgers in San Antonio. It is counter service with food delivered to your table. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. There is a stage with live music outdoors during good weather. The burger is flavorful, good balance of toppings and if you go with the Cheddar Cbeezy, you get an insane amount of cheese on it! They have a full bar as well! It can get crowded on the weekends, but it is absolutely worth the wait!!

A real solid spot for burger in San Antonio, came here for lunch and left happy and full. Place looks nice, plenty of seating and indoor and out door seating. Plenty of parking. The staff here were super kind and friendly. Menu is small simple and to the point which made ordering a breeze. Got a macho cheeseburger (2patties) and fries and soda. Burger was big and filling, perfectly cooked, not quite a Smashburger style but with crispy edge and middle that was tender, toppings were fresh and the bun was soft. Fries were fresh cut and cooked which were nice. Plenty of soda options. Prices here are super reasonable and I would definitely come back. Would recommend for a chill casual fun spot to grab a burger in San Antonio

Tried their food truck for lunch - I was excited because I've been meaning to try their burger because someone recommended it. I got their classic burger with fries. The burger was a good size - it was okay and fries were too soft and a bit greasy. Service was good - lady was nice.

Wow, was very disappointed in this place. Saw all the great reviews and had high hopes. The only thing nice about this place is the parking is good and it has a lot of room and space to chill and eat. The service was bad, the guy who took our order barely said anything, wasn't welcoming or inviting and kind of had the "I don't care to be here face". The food came out quick but you can tell why, everything is just slapped together. I got the tostada burger and yes everything is very cheesy and looks good but all I could taste was the refried beans. I didn't taste the meat or anything else. My burger literally was smothered canned refried beans, a tostada shell, a tiny sliver of meat and a glob of cheese topped with more refried beans. I couldn't even finish it because it felt like just eating beans out the can. Very disappointed and will never come back or recommend this place. Sorry.

We eat here a couple times a month and always love it. Food is cooked fresh and quickly. I don't think they've ever made a mistake with our order...They're very efficient and have lots of food runners and table clearers and we've never had to clean off a table or go look for our food. They have 2 drink stations with all the condiments and utensils you need. They also have a separate bar area to order from. It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon to sit outside...Very nice patio area. They also have party rooms for rent. We got our usual...I get the old fashioned - burger no cheese. My husband gets the double meat double cheese burger with jalapenos. We share a small fries and a vanilla shake. Everything was just great. *Bonus - they offer a 10% military discount!

Amazing burger!! It's huge! And loaded with cheese! My friend took me there and I had a macho cheeseburger and fries and a Coke. I ate it all and was still hungry. My friend said if I could eat it he would buy it. I only weighed 112 lbs at the time. I ate a complete second burger! The service was great and lots of decorative items in the place. Very wonderful fun place. The food is NOT small.

I finally tried a burger here and it was just OK. I do not see what all the hype is about. Though a freshly made burger, the patty was extremely thin. For over $10 bucks I expected a little bit more meat and honestly to be able to taste it a little bit more. There was loads of shredded lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickle, and I had them add ketchup because I happen to like my burgers that way. I got a small order of fries. They were also just OK. They were fresh cut, which I happened to liked but extremely oily and very bland. Would I come back here again...maybe. Will I go anytime soon, probably not.

What can I say? This place has the BEST burgers in San Antonio - especially the tostada burger (to die for!). This burger will haunt your dreams it's so good!! The fries are amazing as well. The "medium" size is more than enough for two people. This is always a MUST STOP whenever I come to San Antonio!

Decent spot for a quick casual lunch! I've heard rave reviews of their burgers and how much cheese is on them. Expectations were high to start with! We had a team lunch for work here at the peak of lunch hour on a Tuesday. The restaurant was very busy, but they kept the line moving and there was plenty of space to accommodate people inside and outside. Parking is a little more challenging as there's limited spots. I ordered the bunless 1/2 lb porky's burger with fries and it came out to about $21+tip. No drink was included, which is a bit pricey for burgers. A buzzer is given so people can come find you with the food. About 10 minutes into waiting, my food came out fresh and exactly what I ordered. The amount of cheese was underwhelming as people raved about how much cheese you get. The beef patty was okay, but felt a bit dry and overcooked. Vegetables were fresh at least. Fries were hot and fresh at first, but immediately changed to soggy fries. Not the best burger I've had, but it's decent. A bit pricey in my opinion and not worth the hype.

Whenever I've got company, I always bring them here. It's got a great vibe. The menu is easy. Drinks are awesome. The burgers, and even the fries, are made from scratch. You'll need a knife to cut that burger in half before you take a bite, it's huge! It can get busy inside, but there's tons of seating on the patio. It's the perfect spot to wow your guests!

    Gimmick burger

This was a gimmick burger. Yes they serve an insane amount of cheese and it looks amazing, but the flavor bland and depressing, like the ingredients were pulled out of a can. It felt like eating a McDonald burger with tons of cheese. The place is cool and the outdoor seating is chill. Do better on the burgers

Line moved very quickly to order from the counter and food came out within five minutes. Bright seating area with lots of windows, (much different from my last chance to eat here 16 years ago). Burgers are just as good! Nice size, good grilled flavor, and the CHEESE!! Fries are excellent as well. Paleta seemed like a nice idea on such a hot day but basically frozen water with minimal flavor. My pineapple paleta had no flavor even remotely reminiscent of pineapple. Ever try hung else was great.

Great burger spot!! They are known for their over the top burgers. I love a fresh natural fry and that's what they serve. Everything is order at the counter even drinks. They will give you a number and the food comes out within 10 minutes. Even with a full house. If you need another beverage you can always go to the bar instead of the front.

Are the beans cooked with Lard?

Thank you for reaching out, we cook our beans in a soybean/vegetable oil-based shortening.

Are there any vegetarian options, specifically for burgers?

No, sadly, there aren't vegan options.

Anyone know if there is a fluten free bun option?

    I wanna say no

Does anyone know when they'll be back in the building?

Nobody knows for sure. One of the employees told me that they are struggling with their insurance to open the restaurant. Hope this helps

Is there any kind of fan or a/c in the tent by the food truck?

There are two very large covered tent areas with fans.

Any ETA of when they will be back inside?

When I was there I asked one of the ladies and she told me they expect it to be September-October and they should be back in the building. But that all depends on the guys doing the renovation and all, the fire did a good job on it I guess. No…

Are they up and running yet? Or still just burgers? They have some tasty chalupas. Or tostadas? I say chalupa. #SorryNotSorry

Not back in the building but they have burgers and tostadas. It was good two weeks ago.

FIRST TIME VISIT!…read more Woohoo! Been looking for chili cheese fries and happened upon a review for this place boasting fries with a homemade chili so we HAD TO stop in tonight. THE LOCATION: on the very end of a string of businesses in a strip mall that I've never been in before, so that was cool. Lots of parking, that'll never be an issue. And right off the 410. THE MENU: Burgers, dogs, Mexi-style munchies and a variety of frozen dessert-type items like shakes, frozen fruit concoctions and Italian ice. THE STAFF: I wasn't overwhelmed with a warm welcome and smiles, at least from the guys. Lol! They should really work on that. There was a sweet gal who ran out our food orders and she was great. THE FOOD: I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich deluxe with tots and a sweet tea. The grilled chicken was juicy and cooked well and the bun was lovely, slightly sweet and toasted. Overall, the sandwich could've used more flavor, like a creamy bbq spread and cheddar instead of the "Swiss" cheese that tasted more like American cheese. But overall, 7/10. The tots were extra crispy and the guy who took my order didn't take heed to my request for ranch. I was too lazy to get up again so I settled for ketchup. The sweet tea was nicely sweet and fresh, I'll be sipping this in my dreams. The hubby ordered the bacon cheeseburger with chili cheese fries and an Oreo cookie shake. The burger looked good and he ate it quick, so there's that. This guy can EAT so it surprised us both when he slowed down fast after eating that burger. Lol! He kept saying how filling it was, but then he also killed a large shake before the food arrived, so there's that. He ate most of his chili cheese fries, leaving me a few bites to sample. Not bad. I order a Coco Haven frozen dessert to go and omg is this thing delightful! Vanilla ice cream and coconut Italian ice (?) with a blue snow cone-like syrup drizzled throughout. I loved the texture of what I believed to be Italian ice. Smooth and flaky, a perfect icy dessert. OVERALL: decent eatery, the hubby said we can go back (LOL!) Shockerrrrr! But I recommend the staff tries harder to make customers feel welcomed and comfortable. The next visit will be telling.

Yeah, okay, it's convenient, but by the time you pay to park (minimum of four hours, which pissed me off) and then have your tiny, overpriced burger...you gonna be mad. Do yourself a favor and fight for street parking. I walked up to the outside counter Saturday night about 7:20. Never been here. The ladies behind the counter obviously could NOT have cared less. No nice welcome...no pleasantries. Nothing said. I spoke first, asking about seating availability inside (it was chilly), and they were rude - looked at me like I was from outer space and said they didn't know. They said they didn't know in that "yeah, good luck with that...it's Saturday at 7, dumbass" kinda way. How could you not know? And if you truly didn't know, which one of them should have gone to check for me. So I went and checked myself. Turns out: plenty of seating. Returned to the chilly duo and placed my order. Ordered the Wake and Bacon burger. I also ordered a Topo Chico, which was also met with a blank "are you from this planet?" stare. How do you not have Topo Chico or something similar !? The burger was just okay. Tiny, but tasty. Fries were so salty and over-seasoned as to be almost inedible. No one checked on me after bringing me my burger. Not one time. The only reason I gave the third star: neat, dog friendly outside area which would be cool for a group outing. Probably not going back.

Drinks were AMAZING! Bartender Rob made the best Negroni I've ever had. I asked him to use whatever gin he thought best--result was an artistic smooooooth full-bodied drink. Told him when I was done I'd lick the glass if it wasn't considered so uncouth for a 'mature' lady like myself to do so Hubby's Buffalo Trace bourbon old fashioned was also outstanding. Rob was the bartender last night who did such a great job, and his work was even better tonight. We highly recommend The EsquireTavern for excellent cocktails. We love the long wood bar and high copper ceiling upstairs, but love the intimate speakeasy atmosphere downstairs even more. We'll definitely be back every time we're in San Antonio! First review, Friday night: Drinks were great (Manhattan and Bourbon Old Fashioned). REAL drinks, no complaints at all about those. And the bartenders were very friendly and helpful. Those aspects of the Esquire get 5+ stars from us. But the appetizers were not good, close to inedible. It was about 8:30pm or so, so maybe they were getting ready to close out the kitchen but the chalupitas with chicken tasted like rubber, and no flavor at all. The seafood platter had something in it that was breading with shell inside, but no meat of any kind. We couldn't figure out what it was supposed to be. The shrimp was good and the fish was good but those other things... We'll always love the drinks, the long wooden bar, and the ambiance at the Esquire Tavern, but we'll eat somewhere else and come here for before or after dinner drinks. (See update above to this review for when we returned the next night for after dinner drinks.)

This is an official Local Favorite of mine! Dogfather is in a really low key location, and when you…read morewalk in the vibe is completely chill. My partner and I went on a Sunday morning just after 11am and there were already people coming in to eat. It's popular for a reason! I've eaten here a few times and had a very consistently good time, but this review will be about my most recent visit. We visited on a rainy day, but luckily we were able to snag one of the inside tables, we ordered at the counter and our orders arrived very quickly. I got the Ratchet dog which is a beef dog with queso, hot Cheetos and fried jalapeños. Dogfather uses quality dogs and buns for all of their gourmet dogs. I found the Ratchet to be meaty, salty with just right amount of spice from the jalapeños. My partner got the Pop it like it's hot, but removed the jalapeños. This was good but lacking a bit of flavor, however she and I both agreed that was on her for taking the jalapeños off the dog. Both dogs were extremely tasty, and we devoured both. I also got an order of curly fries loaded with their chili and cheese. For me, these did not have to go as HARD as they did. The chili they are using at Dogfather is seriously good, with a slight tang and a good amount of spice. It thrills but does not take away from your meal with too much heat. Very tasty. My only feedback is that Dogfather needs a larger space! There's a good size outside seating area, but for times like today when it's raining people need some coverage. They're doing it right and the crowds want to come! As I have stated this is a local favorite. If you live nearby, make it a regular spot. If you live in San Antonio, do yourself a favor and make a trip over at least sometimes. If you like hot dogs you won't go wrong.

Great Food and Even Better Service! I spotted this place on…read moresocial media a while back and saved it on my maps. I happened to be in the area today and finally stopped in--and I'm glad I did. The young lady working was incredibly friendly and clearly passionate about the food. I enjoyed chatting with her. The burger was excellent--cooked perfectly and just the right amount of messy. She even brought extra napkins and a fork and knife so I could finish it off comfortably. Overall, a really great experience. I'll definitely be back to enjoy it again.

We walked in just to "check it out" and ended up leaving after eating a REALLY GOOD BURGER. The…read moreservice was great, the restaurant was clean, and the owner took the time to explain the menu and make suggestions. We ordered Da Slippah, and it was an EXCELLENT choice. He even showed us around and introduced us to his family and staff, which made us feel right at home. The food came out quickly, and the burger was fantastic--but the true STAR OF THE SHOW was the bread. Think Hawaiian rolls, but softer, fluffier, and sized for a burger. These burgers were no joke: meat, cheese, grilled onions, and a secret sauce--and honestly, they didn't need anything else. The grilled onions and sauce were the perfect compliment, and you could taste every flavor in each bite. The drinks came in cans. I didn't notice a fountain setup, so that might be why. It would've been nice to have a cup with ice, but I didn't ask, so maybe that's an option. Overall, this place is definitely worth a try--and we will be back!
