I have been coming to Chris Madrid's since I was little and it was very exciting to come with my boyfriend here for his first time to celebrate his little brother's birthday! He ordered the macho cheddar cheesy and I got the cheeseburger and we got a plate of fries to share for the table. And it was all for a very reasonable price. Much cheaper than comparable locations in San Antonio. The food was absolutely delicious. His brother said it's the best burger he's ever had. All of the workers were very polite and helpful. I have not been to this place in years. But having came back due to a work party, it was great for the price of free. The staff was great! There was a young lady there with tattoos who really went above and beyond to help me and my partner out, ensuring we were taken care of. Because of that, the food tasted better and overall feel of the place was better. We felt heard and that's what sold us. Lived in SA all my life and all my life my mom has RAVED about this place. I think we have driven past it with the intent to go maybe 10 times, but it has always been SO packed that we gave up. Well, we finally scored and walked in with no line! The inside is very nice, updated yet has a great homey feel to it. We sat outside and it was perfect for a beautiful day. You order at the front so there is no waiter but the guy who took our order was very friendly and helpful. On to the food. My mom got her all time favorite burger. The tostada burger. She said it is always the best burger she has ever had. Not only does it have great tasting ingredients but the uniqueness of the burger is what makes it so good! I got a cheeseburger with no pickles and it was also delicious and a great size! Also, the prices are hard to beat!! We got a thing of fries to share and it was the perfect amount. All in all a very fresh tasting quality burger. The icing on the cake was the fact that I left my purse hanging over the chair outside and did not realize till I got home 15 minutes later. I was freaking out as someone could have easily snatched it from outside. Luckily, when I called, they had my purse! Chris Madrid's is a San Antonio staple, so you know I had to try it! Definitely a cool party place for the college and local set. You order at the front and they give you a buzzer for someone to bring the food to you. I ended up getting the Old Fashioned with a drink and a side of fries. Service was prompt, and the patty was fresh tasting if a tad on the dry side. Shout out for the fries, they're a home-style type and excellent! Definitely recommend you try the place if you're staying locally. This place scores a 4 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. As a "treat yo self" moment, I came down to Chris Madrid's for an overdue Tostada bean burger with fries. I came at the right time just before the dinner rush, and was able to grab my drink, grab my condiments and find a table and wait for my order to come out. My order came out in under 10 minutes and was and was still warm. To my burger I add some Pico de Gallo and ketchup cut it in half and dig in. The cheese is thick and melted, the beans are flavored well and the chips are still crunchy making for an excellent first bite. The fries are hot and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. This consistency of food and service keeps me coming back. I look forward to my next time here. read more

First time for me at Chris Madrid's. Went 11/11/2024 around 1:30pm. The place is huge with plenty of indoor and outdoor dining. It was busy, but no line and we ordered right away. It was a fairly short wait and food was brought to us rather than us having to go get it, which looks like is the norm. We sat at the community table and it was fine. I had a classic and my companion had a cheeseburger. We split a large fry. Food was tasty, warm and fresh. There was no salt on the fries (is that the norm?). There was no ice in one of the machines and couldn't find forks or knives, but it was during a lunch rush on a holiday, so kinda understandable though there were a few workers just standing around and talking. The food was delicious! Can't complain there the food was devoured. The beer was hot and the michelada was melting the ice. It was very gross. However a beer must not go in the trash so down the pipe it went. Walked in very confused on where to order, expressed to the bartender it was my first time here. He didn't explain anything he took my order and handed me a number. One bartender was very aggressive and rude to the newer bartender doing a million things. I walked up to an employee asking where do I pick up the food. I figured very quickly she did not speak English no biggy! Another employee later explained they bring the food out to the table. The fountain machine was broken - which isn't a big deal if you're drinking water. However it was still gross it had food in the ice tray. When getting prepared to leave I was picking up my plates and tray. An employee came up to my table snatching the plate out of my hand. She started screaming no at me and I just let the plate go. So I've heard this is the best burger in town. I'm here to tell you it's not. I make the best burgers in town. :). But seriously, I've been hearing this since I moved here and had forgotten all about it. I was off today so I decided I was in the mood for a burger. But after hanging at the Quarry most of the mid morning I decided to grab and go. I placed an order on the toast app and headed over. I arrived a bit early so I scoped out the place by driving around. I dii oh don't see a pick up area but thankfully I checked the app and realized it was in a lot on the side street. The ambiance from my car looked very laid back. Divey. I saw what looked like an outside area but I'll see about that when I return. But on to the review. There were some ordering notes missing -no condiments were on the burger at all even though I requested it. I added it at home but I would have preferred to have on there as requested. The burger was huge. I should have gotten the smaller size. The fries were good. Now taste, I thought it was a darn good burger. I wish the patty was seasoned. If is I could barely taste it. I haven't tasted every burger in SA but I will say I wasn't mad at this one. If you're looking for a good burger, this one is indeed the best I've eaten here, for sure. read more

Burger is a bit greasy for me and the fries weren't to my liking but i understand that that's my preference but for others this will be a great spot. There is not a lot of seating inside. I meant there are a number of tables but this place is popular so expect it to be busy. The patio on this beautiful day was the choice spot, people enjoying their friends and family was obvious. The food, The Macho burger was impressive on shear size and the plentiful cheese and vegetables truly a challenge. Where they lost me was the meat, The patty was cooked so are that it was very dry and hard. Would have had great flavor if it did not have every bit of juiciness stripped from it. I think it's a technique used by the grill cooks to get the meat to cook faster for quicker service. To me a great smash burger is smashed once when put on the grill then not touched again till it's time to flip and finish cooking. This burger was so dry and hard that 18.00 dollar price tag made regret choosing Chris Madrid's as my place for lunch. Maybe I just got the one burger that was way overcooked because people certainly looked like they were enjoying their selections. I'll still give it another try... someday. read more

Thought we'd get my son his burger fix by visiting this spot. Hadn't been here in ages, and NEVER noticed all the available seating (inside where we order, outside, then theres the other building with seating inside). We got there around 6pm with ample parking, but in a blink of an eye, it got packed. We parked at the same lot the buildings on, but there's additional parking across the street. Their doors specify where the main entrance is and you'll run into their rope barrier that guides you towards the cashier to order. Everything is sold separately - they offer military discounts too, but you will have to ask for it. Once ordered, they'll give you a pager that buzzes when you're food is on its way-- wherever you sit, they will find ya! We got the Flaming jalapeño cheddar, Old fashioned, Cheddar cheezy, and a large fry. I let them know it's been a bit and forgot to omit some of the fixings' but was also wasn't asked about it. I came here recently to celebrate my wife's cousin's recent high school graduation. It had been many moons since I had last visited so I was eager to come back again. I went with the Macho Flaming Jalapeño Cheddar Burger and fries. Burger was just as tasty as I remembered and the fries were plentiful. But today I came after months of not coming and the CHEDDAR CHEEZY was anything but. It was sad. There was no cheeziness over the edges, the buns were cold and one dude hard, the meat was thinner than before. It is now what I would consider a smash burger. I had no complaints when they were just a food truck! And I've been a loyal customer since they were on Bandera Rd. I'm so sad and disappointed. And we came during a very slow time.
