My wife and I use to frequent this place YEARS ago, the service was good and the food was good, years later we decided to go back & mannn the food quality & service has went down terribly! Pulled up on a Friday late night with my family ordered the standard 5 tacos. They are a bit pricey as well. I ordered the carne Asada and my mother in law ordered the chicken. While it did seem like it tasted good it was super greasy. (TMI coming up) When I woke up the next morning my I noticed my bowels were literally moving the next day, (I counted about 9 times). I felt bloated and everything. My wife even told me that as we were pulling off she witnessed the cook I believe his name is Julio eating some of the product while he was preparing peoples food (the side door of the food truck was open so you could see right in). Funny enough we decided to go back Saturday evening to give them another try, thinking it would be better, BOY was we wrong. I ordered the same order plus charro Beans, elote (corn in a cup) and 3 cans of sprite. This time we took literally one bite and the meat was DRYER than the Saharan desert both the carne asada and the chicken. (Tasted like some reheated old meat or meat that had been made days prior). We were already at the hotel at this point and was infuriated!!! We ended up calling and I believe I spoke to Julio (or whoever the cook is) over the phone. After lying saying that he cooked the meat fresh that day he stuttered I told him aint no way the meat was fresh. He then said and I quote " I cooked the meat "a couple days ago" then said "sorry I burnt it or overcooked it". (Knowing that why would you serve that to me?) I then stated "yes it tasted old period". I requested a refund in which he agreed to. Driving all the way back I brought the food back as well. Julio (or whoever the cooks name is) tried to plead his case to me saying that the meat is fresh and took a fork and tasted the food himself and then tried to offer me the food. I told him "no I don't want to taste it, just refund me please" in which he did. Dishonesty, Not handling food with care, lying. Is something that crosses the line and I won't be back. *Also if the owner is reading this I have the phone conversation recorded and the video evidence to show proof this whole interaction, so do not just glaze over this review* I don't like writing bad reviews, but this one is for sure warranted. Seems like they will dress up the taco and selling you some "old meat" people just be careful and mindful when coming to this taco truck. So...disappointing! I came to this spot with family who raved about the tacos being lowkey almost like we back in LA. Welp, I ordered 1 chicken and 1 Carne Asada and also Charro Beans. The chicken was fresh and so flavorful, but the Carne Asada was bland and even a little dry. However, the Charro beans were on point and so flavorful. I heard they have been at this location for a long time and my fam used to frequent here back in the day. What disappoints was my fam got sick from the Carne Asada. The next day we ordered chicken again and they were stale and old from two days prior. This was confirmed by the staff. They were offered my fam a refund. Ugggh... so disappointing. The late night eats scene in San Antonio is already limited, so it's places like Tacos El Regio that carry the torch for folks looking for a bite in the middle of the night. There are two locations in the city, with this one smack dab in the heart of St. Mary's where they serve a nightly crowd of club goers and folks looking to avoid a hangover. Some things that separate them from the average taco truck: illuminated signage, dessert options, English friendly food descriptions, credit card machines, and higher than average prices. The latter is an obvious nod to a gringo target audience, so Mexican food purists will need to taper their expectations before partaking. Their self proclamation of "best tacos on earth" is likely in jest, but I do think they have items that are worth a look. Namely their "mini tacos" aka taquitos ($8 for 4), giant torta ($9), and charro beans . The esquite (ahem, "corn in a cup") was a bit watery for my tastes and the quesadilla ($3.50) is a solid pick. Meats are really limited to asada, pollo, and pastor but they also feature a bean and cheese taco, which at $2 is their least expensive option. On their busiest evenings, the lines can get long and customer service can be a bit curt. The parking is extremely limited to side streets, so consider this El Regio only if one is bar / club hopping, or just randomly walking through St. Mary's looking for a late night bite. read more

The best tacos I've ever had. Fast forward to this week... the consistency the past two times have been sketchy. The corn appetizer was filled 1/2 with cheese and so much hot sauce. I couldn't eat it. The beef was hard and flavorless. There was no chat or grill to the meat. The corn was cold too. I'll give this place one more shot in the future. We had this delivered to the hotel nearby and it came in styrofoam plates wrapped up in foil. Quesadillas were pretty good especially for the price. It beats a lot of places around the area. Though I marked it down a star because the torta said it was going to be giant and it was basically your typical size. And it was really stale and wet bread. It wasn't worth to get it to be honest. Let me preface this by saying I am from California with the best taco reside, a very specific type of taco with a very specific taste. All the good Mexican food that I have had in Texas has been in San Antonio and it's because they have the specific taste, the taste that is home! Let me also say that this is right outside of a club that has amazing music and that when I was eating these tacos, I was not drunk yet. Therefore, the food was absolutely amazing and probably would've tasted even better had we went in the club before eating. This food truck is located in a corner that is currently a construction zone so no actual parking unless you cross the street. The ladies attending the window are very nice and our order was provided fairly quickly. Ordered the mini tacos with asada $8, a beef fajita Torta $9, beans $1.50, corn in a cup $3, Medio Litro Coke $3. Mini tacos are "OK" definitely not worth $2 each (even with the queso fresco and avocado) they are just ok on flavor but nothing special if that makes sense. Torta was good and filling. The bread was honestly the best part, fresh and authentic. It had fajita, lettuce, tomato, avocado, Crema, queso fresco. Beans, we're just your normal charro beans that you normally get for free at other places, we just wanted to try them but we wouldn't purchase them again simply because they weren't anything beyond normal. Corn in a cup... not worth it at all. It's boiled canned corn.. with the toppings. Nothing special there. Red salsa is spicier of the 2 but everything just lacks salt. I would stop for a Torta if I was in the area again but that's about it. When ordering your food ask for salt packets because they were not provided to us so we weren't actually able to put it on our food to taste the difference and since avocado is almost on everything, it definitely needed it. read more

I ordered from El Regio door dash and the tacos were tasty and good, but not great. However it's the overall experience paired with the good level tacos that made it a 3 stars. I paid extra for all 3 of their salsas and only received 2. As well as I ordered 2 chicken and one pork taco with the 3 regular combo and only received chicken. I am ashamed that I have not written a review about this amazing food truck. I have been ordering from El Regio for at least a year, at least three times per month. The food is authentic and tasty and they're open super late for those munchies attacks that hit late at night!
