Stopped by the shop for info on A/C on a BMW. They explained that they didn't perform that service on BMW's, but recommended another shop. SO much to commend this repair business. It certainly can't hurt that the service manager is a woman. (I do love guys! But a women can bring certain qualities to this work that I highly value) Not enough time to enumerate all that's good about Chris Murphy'sAutomotive. But I'll just say one thing. They are OBJECTIVE and THOROUGH and SYSTEMATIC. I went to them to get an opinion about weird noises in the suspension, noises that my present mechanic claimed he couldn't hear. I'm half deaf but even without my hearing aids, I could hear and feel trouble. Could my mechanic's failure to hear those thunks have something to do with my having paid him a couple of thousand dollars for suspension repairs a few short months ago? Well, Chris Murphy Automotive gave much more than an OPINION. They gave the very most objective, complete and transparent assessment I ever received from a mechanic. It was computer generated and photos accompanied every defect they identified. I only wish doctors were so thorough! (Well, doctors often can be that thorough. We took our car here for some repairs and were very pleased from start to finish. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Wendy got us started but most of my communication was with Nick who was great. The communication during the process was excellent. The prices were very reasonable and if you are an AAA member you get a discount. This place is AAA certified and it is easy to see why. I had my car serviced here years ago with no issues and was happy with the results. I made an appointment to service my car recently and drop it off in the morning. Since the hours posted on Google and on their front door are that they open at 7:30 A.M., I assumed I could drop my car off at 7:30 A.M. I arrive at 7:30 A.M. and the front door is locked and no one is answering the phones. I waited until 7:50 A.M., when two employees arrived in the parking lot. They saw me waiting outside the door and made no effort to get inside quickly or acknowledge me. They went inside, did not unlock the door, and didn't answer the phone. Clearly the hours posted on Google and on their front door need to be corrected. I am extremely disappointed and will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Went in for an Oil change and inspection to be done. Called and made an appointment in, and I was in and out. Friendly staff, too!

My car got a flat so I put on the spare & dropped off the tire here. They informed me that the previous tire repair had been erroneous which is why my tire was unable to retain air but would appear to inflate after being filled. They gave me quotes for a replacement, and when it wasn't within my budget, they suggested I check TireRack.com for a good deal. I had a new tire shipped from TireRack.com to their shop, and they installed it for a great price. Very helpful--Wendy Chandler helped talk me through all the possible options and was great at keeping track of everything. Highly recommend this place for anyone in DFW. read more

This organization is wonderful. They take the time to figure out what is wrong and are honest with you if they just don't know. They can take it slow and step by step then only charge for the work done or they can do it all. I have really appreciated the effort they put in to trying to save our 176,000 mileage plus car. I took my truck to Murphy's b/c it had some misfire codes. Three days later, they said it needed new plugs and wires and it would cost $680. When I dropped it off i told them what the problem was but they tried to charge me $108 for a diagnostic when i picked it up. I didn't pay it. I went out and bought "OE" parts for $104, did the work myself and it took 2 hrs with hand tools in my drive way. When i called to say that i felt like they had tried to take advantage of me, they said that their computer told them what to charge and it was based on work time and what their part supplier charges. My recommendation is that you find another shop with a better computer system and better suppliers because Murphy's will over charge you. read more

C.M. Auto is *truly* a family business, complete w/ a shop-dog. :P And Chris is the real deal; a determined mechanical problem solver. I've had rather poor serivice with my first generation Honda Insight hybrid at Honda's service department, a major body shop, and another small shop (I will not mention who). Chris though, has a very honest and comprehensive approach to sharing the information he knows and discovers with customers. And his pricing is more than fair -- it's unmateched. I came in frustrated, uneducated, and desperate to get my car repaired after a rearending that ultimately disabled the hybrid function. Chris Murphy investigated, diagnosed, and repaired my car's IMA electric 144 volt and the coresponding wiring issues. He also taught me a TON about these complex cars. I now get my 50+ MPG's again! I have been using Chris Murphy's Automotive for several years, initially finding them through AAA when needing to be towed. Since that time I have had numerous issues with two different cars... from oil changes, to struts, to batteries, to radiators. The entire staff is great... they know me by name at this point and I know that I can trust them to give me an honest opinion and a fair price. Wendy, the service manager, is excellent to work with and is wonderful about explaining problems and presenting options/prices for repairs. As a female, I always felt like car shops were trying to scam me for more money - but not Chris Murphy Automotive. They are always able to look at and repair my car in a timely manner, while keeping me updated with progress calls. They offer a AAA discount as well. read more

I've been going to Chris's since 2011 when I bought a hunk of metal with everything wrong with it. Not only did they keep me on the road, but when the transmission needed replacing they were able to refer me to another trusted source. They also influenced my decision to buy a new prius, as Chris and his crew have extensive training and knowledge on the subject. In fact Chris and Wendy and the team not only service my vehicle, but educate me on the inner workings. It seems counter intuitive to say that this is an honest mechanic, but the fact is they are. TL;DR - They failed to adequately address a crucial mechanical failure in my car resulting in extensive damage to the engine and kept the $2,000 they had initially charged for the repair that didn't actually solve the problem. ********** I will preface this negative review with a positive point: Wendy and Nick were very pleasant and professional. That's the only nice thing I have to say. I'll try to keep this short. This location was recommended to me through my insurance provider, and for the first time in my life I had my Subaru taken to a location other than the dealership. My car had spun a bearing due to a persistent oil leak, which caused a rough idle and a check engine light to come on at the end of a road trip. I had the car towed to CM the next morning. I was contacted with a quote for two new gaskets, and a complete overhaul of the timing belt, since it had become coated with oil. I was advised that the work wouldn't be warrantied unless I replaced all the functional components of the timing belt assembly. I agreed to the full repair. When I went to pick the car up, I noticed it was still idling rough, but the check engine light was off. I was used to a rough idle any time the battery had been disconnected so I chalked it up to the ECU needing to re-calibrate the fuel-air mixture, and drove it off the lot assuming any repair shop worth its salt would have already ensured a rough idle wasn't the symptom of an inadequate repair. I trusted them. 50 miles later, the car began smoking again and the check engine light came on. At the very moment I got the car off the highway and into a parking lot, I heard a sudden loud knocking sound and the engine completely died. I had the car towed back to CM and was later told that the cam shaft had broken, causing extensive damage to the cylinder head. I was quoted $4k just for a new cylinder head, without even examining the other side of the engine, or $6.9k for a rebuilt Subaru engine. They refused to give me any break on the price or refund, despite the fact that their repair hadn't addressed the underlying issue that led to ultimate failure of the engine. So I had the car towed to Subaru for their diagnostic. They confirmed my hypothesis that if the bearing had been identified as the issue, the bearing and the cam shaft could have been replaced before failure and saved significant damage to the cylinder head and thus the engine. Suffice to say I would not recommended this shop to anyone looking for a business that will actually warranty or stand behind their service. read more

I mean where do I start? The first time I took my car there I had to get an Uber to take me to work since my car started acting weird on the way to work. Wendy helped me with the Uber app because I'm that person that needs help with stuff like that. Fast forward to today when I took my car in. They ran a diagnostic test and I was not surprised that it was the catalytic converter because I had already been told by a place I won't mention that's what it was. Luckily for me after going to unnamed place I remembered I still had the CarMax care plan which meant I had to use a repair shop they approved of. I knew CMA was one since I had used them before. Unfortunately my care plan doesn't cover the catalytic converter, BUT there is a Federal Emissions Warranty that covers it if mileage isn't over 80k. Hmmm wonder why the other place didn't tell me that? Did they just not know? I didn't know, so that's why I am very grateful for Wendy for delivering the news and for the honest staff at CMA. Horrendous experience. Will NEVER go back as long as I live! Was called a liar by "Wendy". Made an appointment to bring a vehicle in for service that is kept in Plano 30-40 minutes away depending on traffic. I told them the various problems that need to be serviced. I needed to pick it up Friday afternoon. To drop off on Tuesday afternoon. Was told when I got there that the vehicle would take up 2-3 work bays and with their work load, they could not get it out and no place to store. Why not tell me this before I brought it in. How could I know their work load and the size of their bays. Would NEVER recommend this place to ANYONE. Had previously spent thousands of dollars in repairs for other vehicles. The price also is HIGH. $60+ for an oil change??? read more
