The haircut was cheap, but it was a bit hard communicating with the lady. She cut my hair too short.

My mom and I have been coming here to get our hair cut (mine colored) for going on five years, and Kim has always been excellent. It's not as expensive or fancy as other salons, but all the Yelpers who say these ladies give you what you want are totally right! I would have rated it four stars because of the poor French manicure I got today (but I can't not rate it 5 stars after how happy I've always been with Kim!). The French tips were uneven and I cringed as I had to ask the lady to fix them (I don't want to be a difficult customer). It wasn't perfect after she tried to fix them, but I didn't want to complain any further. Not the best French I've ever gotten, but now I'm more willing to pay more than $15 for it! read more

I had a bad experience cutting hair here. The lady who cut my hair said she will cut layer. But it didn't look like layer at all. Horrible service and a filthy place. I went in for a walk in wash and set for my hair. The lady who helped me was Rita and seemed like she had never blowdried anyone's hair before. I told her what I wanted and she just could not get it. It looked like crap. The place was also dirty with cut hair everywhere. On the floor, on the workspace etc. I would steer clear. I have been coming here for years based on a recommendation from one of my clients. When I moved to the bay almost 7 years ago, I had tried stylist after stylist & received one bad haircut after another. Then I met Kim! She can obviously cut hair since I keep going back. She is also very personable & remembers me every time I go back. Amazingly, I am in & out in a flash even though we are chatting it up. As a heads up, if you go in for a cut & want a blow dry or style you need to mention in advance. Kim also did highlights for me & they turned out really nice. I have recommended several of my clients to her & everyone has been happy. This salon is no frills, but you will not be paying out the nose for a haircut. Went here for manicure, pedicure and waxing. You get what you pay for. My overall impression: unclean and untrained. Melissa did the arm wax well, but I had to ask for a towel to cover my clothes in cased the wax dripped. The towels I saw were stained. The paper on the waxing table did not sufficiently cover it, so my legs and shoulders were exposed to the cushion where other people had been. The cuticle cutters were kept on a dirty towel on the manicure station. The women went from one to the next to the next presumably checking for sharpness. This gave me the impression they were not ever replaced or cleaned. They told me they used an autoclave, but I did not see it powered on while I was there. I asked for my nails to be shaped square, and she filed them with scratchy corners like an actual square with 90 degree angles! My toenails are different shapes and lengths. The polish on my nails chipped and peeled within 2 days - I'm not sure if the OPI bottle had been filled with some cheaper kind of polish or was just really old. The women who work here were friendly but made me think they had never worked in another salon. They wore oversized Mickey Mouse T-shirts with holes and shoes with "sale" stickers on the sides. read more

Janet is amazing. I have long, straight black hair that unfortunately got into a tangled mess due to using someone's volumizing/thickening shampoo and sleeping on it. She patiently spent 2 hours detangling, conditioning, and fixing my hair so I could run a brush through it again. She even trimmed my bangs at my request. Prices are incredibly reasonable, and they were able to accommodate me as a walk-in with an uncommon (but not rare) request. I was afraid I'd have to cut all my hair off and wait for it to grow back right before the winter, but Janet rescued my hair! I now know to be careful with what shampoo I use, and not to sleep on wet hair. Thank you! read more

This review is solely for haircuts only. Everyone who works here is friendly and always provides great service. I can speak for the guys that if you want a sharp haircut around SJ/Mtn View area, Christina's Salon should be your solid go-to place. Particularly, I go to my favorite, Christine! She's the owner and hands down the most skilled. I'm usually impatient when receiving haircuts because I'd prefer to avoid the small talk, but Christine actually cares about all of her customers and makes meaningful conversation, because she remembers you! If you haven't noticed, Christine specializes in cutting hair extremely fast and the quality of my haircut doesn't go down because of it. This is a huge plus for me as I have high expectations but also expect the haircut to be under 10 minutes. Christine nails it every single time!!! I sometimes want to just chat more but her cutting skills are so superb and fast, I just look forward to finishing up the conversation next time. She has a genuine personality and knows how to communicate without sounding like she has to for the sake of the business. 5 stars from a loyal customer that's never had disappointments thus far. read more

On a referral, I came here for highlights with Christine and have also seen Janette. They both do a REALLY great job. The price is much more reasonable than anywhere else I've been in the area (About $50-$65 for highlights plus $15 or so tip). Both ladies are fantastic with highlights and although this salon isn't as fancy looking on the outside as some others in the area, their work speaks for them, and I am always very happy with my experience. read more

Melissa did a fine job with my hair last time, I requested for her again for my second visit. I brought a picture of the exact hair style that I wanted but what came out was 4 inches shorter (the picture was a below-the-shoulder style what came out barely touched my ears). She really rushed through my haircut (about 5 minutes for a medium length woman's haircut). Unfortunately my hair's so short now I'm afraid to ask anyone else to fix it to cut it even shorter. No choice but to have to wait for it to grow out. read more

Went here for a pedicure. I usually go for simple colors like a light pink but decided to go red. The lady who did my nails was so messy, the red was on my skin and she didn't even clean it up. It pretty much stained my toes. It was so ugly. So in hopes of making it better looking, I asked for a design. Something simple and cute, and what does she do? She puts the most ginormous flower that basically covered my entire toenail. Of course I didn't notice while she was doing it because I was on my phone the whole time, and when I looked up it was too late. Fantastic. It was so sloppy and embarrassing I had to go to another place to get it fixed. $40 spent in one day getting crappy pedicures. read more

Several years ago I asked one of friends who grew up in the area where to get a decent hair cut and he referred me to Kim at Christine's Salon. She's super-friendly, efficient, and always finds time to squeeze me in with very short notice. For all you guys out there who don't understand why a haircut should possibly cost more than $15, you won't find better value with friendlier service. I have at least six other friends who also go to Kim so she definitely knows how to cut guy's hair -- no wax involved, I promise. read more

Christine did my eyebrows and they came out perfectly! She was very nice and we had a very good conversation the whole time (no awkward silence). She also really took her time and made sure to get every little stray hair. Most other salons I've been to do it so quickly they miss a lot and I end up having to pluck the rest at home. This is not a fancy place, but Kim does a wonderful job waxing. She is very quick and professional. I've been to very expensive spas and Kim is a lot better than all of them. It's very cheap, I only pay $30 for a brazilian bikini wax. She totally deserves a good tip though. read more

This place is literally the worst salon I have ever been to! I asked for a natural brown to cover my grey hair but ended up with more of a red- which made my roots look awful! I also went home covered in hair dye stains all over my ears, neck, face and right arm! I had to cancel my afternoon plans to go home and scrub off the stains. When I was paying the lady changed the price (twice what I had paid last time)! Also this place is filthy! I will never go back! read more

I have been here twice to wax my back. Both times I received consistent courtesy and quality service. The room appears unattractive and poorly furnished but the reason for visiting the salon isn't lounging. Waxing was extremely accurate and rapid, leaving me very pleased with experience. This place is pretty nice. Very well kept. I tried the stand up bed for 7 minutes under the girl at the fronts advice. I probably could have gone a little longer, but being as pale as I am I think she just didn't want me to get burned. I don't tan often but I will be coming back here next time I need to.
