Amaizingly cute place settled downtown in the historic area of Charlestown. The display case was well stocked and the ambiance was right on. We selected an array of macaroons chocolates and of course bread pudding. I really enjoyed the bread pudding. The texture was dense and it was graced with chocolates rather than raisins. The macaroons appeared consistent in size and were well displayed in the case. The texture was perfect and the flavor gave one a desire to remember. There chocolate was light but perfect. Once bitten into the caramel just oozed from within. I'm not sure about the other bakeries in the area but this place is a force to new reckoned with. As for the staff we were greeted by a friendly young lady who pleasantly served us. I'm so excited that they care about military and gave us a discount for serving. This was the our second visit here and this time was disappointing. They ran out of flourless cake and pumpkin macaroons so we ordered several hot drinks and a variety of macaroons. After waiting ten minutes for two of our three drinks the lady that took our order said she didn't charge us for the two drinks we were waiting for. Since she hadn't given me a receipt she had to look it up on ipad. That took another few minutes. Turns out she forgot to charge us and was impatient with us. A very beautiful place from one of the side streets off of King St. Once stepping inside, it almost feels like a boutique which I didn't expect. So many variations of chocolates and pastries to stare at for eternity. I went one of the truffles that's flavored marshmallow and raspberry...so good. Be aware they're $1.95 a piece since a sign wasn't displayed (or I may have just missed it), but well worth it. I also got two different cookies, a Strawberry Linzer and Sable Breton. The Strawberry Linzer had strawberry jam in the middle of a sugar coated cookie. Very delicious but only had some of it because a good chunk of the jam got stuck to the parchment paper to-go bag. It's best to eat it there when you relax rather than walking around downtown. For some reason of all I tried, I enjoyed the Sable Breton the most. A simple sugar cookie with the bottom covered in chocolate instead of on top! I don't know why it's made that way but it still ended up with the perfect sweetness. They also sell many other sweets that are bagged together with various cookies, chocolates, sweets, etc. I believe I saw some of their own branded whole bean coffee. This is the cutest French coffee shop, almost like out of a movie. The pastries are outstanding - we had the quiche, almond croissant and almond chocolate - and everyone shared because they were all so good that you can't choose just one. Then I saw someone buy a baguette and had to try, and it was soft and crunchy on the outside and buttery soft on the inside. The women working hère shared great local info on how to enjoy Charleston like a local, and the Champs Élysée jazz playing in the background added to the warm and friendly vibe. I've been to many chocolate shops and this place is always better. The flavor is just remarkable. The price is just right. To make it even better they have great coffee too and you can add their delectable chocolate to your drink. It is hard to resist only getting a few pieces of chocolate because they are so good. Everything I ate was very delicious. It was pricey but, everything was made well and with allot of care. Hot chocolate (a.k.a drinking chocolate) $3.50 with a chocolate covered marshmallow inside $2- Very chocolaty and not too sweet. Linzer cookie $2.50- Filled with rasberry jam, every bite crumbled in your mouth and was so good. White chocolate macadamima cookie $3.50- soft, chewy, and well made. I really enjoyed the treats in this place. However, I did not care for the pushy, impatient, demeanor of the staff. I came in with my husband and brother-in-law, and it seemed as if with each minute we spent browsing in the store the more impatient the staff became. Like we weren't going to purchase anything. I admired the chocolates and asked about the flavors and the price, and was abruptly answered with "they are all listed on the board." another minute goes by of us looking at all the options and "can we get anything started for you" is asked by someone else. Every time I ordered something there was a cold follow up question of: "What else?" I just didn't feel very welcomed or comfortable. We were greeted with a fake, forced hello and goodbye. As if this cold greeting would be sufficient enough for us to leave. If they had more patience and took the time to talk to me about their desserts, or what they had to offer I probably would have left with allot more things. All four staff seemed very preoccupied with other work to even bother with any of my questions, even though no one else was in the store. This rudeness continued all the way down to the receipt, (which was not offered). I had to ask if it could be sent to my email, then she spins the pad around and says "here you can just type it in yourself" and walks away. Perhaps if I came another day, and another time the service might have been better. I really don't understand why they were so rude to us, we came at 645pm on a Saturday when the hours are open until 9pm. Sadly, I wish I could give this more stars. I can easily find desserts elsewhere for a better experience. Unfortunately, the service left a bad taste in my mouth and i'm not sure if i'll come back. Three stars because the food was very very good, but if the staff was a bit more genuine and attentive I would have ranked them much higher, and would have been a frequent customer. read more

I stopped in here after dinner last night to get a couple macaroons. Their store front is very small with not a lot of room to move around. Their selection is tiny. The "single bite" macaroons are very bland and cost 1.99 a piece -- definitely not worth the price or the visit! We will never return or recommend. Wonderful setting to enjoy a pastry for breakfast. The selection is almost overwhelming in a good way. It's difficult to not want to take one of everything! I went here one afternoon to sample their pastries and was blown away by the variety of beautiful pastries that looked fresh and elegant. It's probably not surprising that the fare here goes far beyond your typical bakery fare and really is worth the stop in- other bakeries will seem boring by comparison. My favorite part was the selection- from tarts to cookies to cakes to croissants, there is something for every mood. I got a slice of an apple almond tart (I believe it would be called a tart? A tart-like pie?) and my companion got a slice of decadent chocolate opera cake. Both were fantastic, and FRESH, and perfect in every way. Prices for pastries were mostly in the 3.50-4.00 range which seemed reasonable for the size and quality. BUT there's more! Another pleasant surprise was a little courtyard in the back with a few tables and umbrellas which is perfect for enjoying treats and coffee on a sunny day. We didn't check out the seating upstairs but it's a huge plus to have seating options to leisurely enjoy a coffee and pastry! This place was not even on our radar... but what a find! Our hotel was down the street. One morning while walking to king street we decided to stop in for coffee. Let's just be honest, we left with at least 1,000 more calories than coffee. The authenticity of the bread, chocolates and croissants was undeniable. There are a number of treats here, but on both my visits I went with the macaroons. Like someone said, they are a little bit of Paris in South Carolina. I brought the macaroons back to a meeting at our hotel and they were a huge hit. The colors might be a bit brighter than those in Paris, but the taste and flavors were spot on. Ordered a cake from this bakery based on reviews. Corresponded with the owners wife online, and she was very helpful. The cost of the cake, for 6 people, was around $30. They even delivered to the hotel where we were hosting the event. Overall, my experience was great. However, the cake was just average. I got an opera cake, and it was beautifully decorated, but inside the cake portion was very dry and the cream didn't taste like coffee. It was a bit of a let-down. I had this place book marked for my trip because I've always wanted to try a chocolatier. Honestly this place was a let down on walking in we weren't greeted. There was no one in there and the lady just kinda kept her back turned and continued to work. I was walking around and see said let me know if you need anything. This shop was not really what I expected the cakes had very small options, the single chocolate bites didn't really seem to catch my interest besides the peanut butter one, the sweets like the "donuts and cookies" where slim to none, it was just so small and everything seemed very over priced. I settled on a peanut butter candy bar and that it's self was decent I felt like the peanut butter could have been more creamy. On the peanut butter bite I got the coating of decorations on the outside of the bar was cool. My girlfriend got a white chocolate ball she seemed to like it. Overall I doubt I would ever return there's other places more reasonably priced with just as good products and the customer service is very disappointing. read more

Outstanding! What a quaint pastry shop! This little gem has an unassuming store front but what a delight when I stepped inside! My husband had an apple almond torte, I had the bread pudding "cake" (for lack of a better word). Fresh, delicious and every bite better than the other! The ladies behind the counter were friendly and quick to smile and very helpful when asked for information were quite knowledgeable. Prices, I thought, we're very reasonable for the portion served and for the freshness of.the product. Coffee is superb! We ate desert on the back patio which was quiet, lit by twinkle lighting, but lacked pizazz. Service, however was excellent. We visited with two preschoolers, Mommy and Mema. The young women who run the shop are delightfully friendly, well-informed, and helpful. And tolerant of a bout of wild toddler behavior. Do you ever discover something, find out it's been there all along, and then get mad at yourself for taking so long to find it?! Like love, or Jesus, or the old Super Taco in Clemson. That's about how I feel about this place. I must've passed this place a million times over the years and somehow missed it. I'm just a little bit upset about that. I park in the George Street lot across from the CofC gym all the time yet still did not find this place until last week. It is small yet packed full of delicious treats both for the eye and the soul. And the stomach, too, obviously. But let's be honest, we eat chocolates, macarons, Linzers, and croissants more for our souls to be satisfied than our bellies. I'd skipped out of work mid-week to meet my little ones downtown with their manny (man-nanny i.e my Brother in Law) for lunch and we were on our way back to the parking lot when I spotted this place. Seriously, we walked RIGHT BY IT on the way to lunch and I didn't even notice it. Even though we were all full I still wanted to stop in. I just CAN'T pass by a sweet looking bakery without checking it out. Immediately I knew it was meant to be. Two shelves full of macarons, lots of delectable croissants here and there, chocolates, giant Linzer cookies (my fav), cookies bigger than my daughter's head, and much much more. We ended up settling on two Raspberry Linzer cookies, one for me and one for my eldest daugther, a sugar cookie for my youngest, and a french press for my BIL. $12 well spent. The shop was small but I spotted a stairway to an upstairs so I am guessing there might be seating up there. Good to know for the next time I go back in the very near future. I am thinking I'll go back on a mommy's day out, take a book, grab a coffee and a treat and head upstairs to enjoy my serenity. They have a Valentine's Day chocolate making class coming up. That sounds like a wonderful way to spend lovers day. Oh, and let's just clear this up- there are macarons and macaroons. They are not the same thing. While both are naturally gluten free, they are vastly different. Macaroons are made with egg whites, sugar, and coconut flakes and baked. Macarons, on the other hand, are sweet, filled, gooey cookies whose cookies are made of egg whites, sugar, and almond flour, and the filling is often flavored buttercream, chocolate, jams or jellies, or something else if the baker is feeling creative. Macaroons are extremely easy to make. Macarons are tedious to make but extrememly rewarding (and hold well in the freezer). Rant over. read more

Christophe is an amazing Chocolatier-Patissier! We were visiting as tourists and our hotel balcony overlooked this quaint little shop. The French flag caught my attention and it didn't take long before my husband and I were there to try a coffee and chocolate mousse. The following day, we joined a food tour whose last stop was at Christophe's. What a coincidence. This time I went for a hot chocolate whose chocolate powder is made in house from chocolate ground by hand, I was told. I was also impressed that Christophe does beer & chocolate pairings and hosts several cooking events and opportunities. We are already planning to visit when we are in Charleston next. The upstairs sitting area is a great place to kill some time with a good book! read more

Delicious Pastries, amazing Chocolate and delicious Macaroons - I love this place! We came in just before Christmas to try a few items as we love Macaroons and were excited to try there tasty looking Chocolate items. It is so cute inside and the staff were so nice. I was only going to get a few things but that went out the window when I saw all the Macaroons and the great selection of Chocolate treats. We got a dozen mixed Macaroons, a dozen of the chocolates and three pasties. The tried the pastries soon as we got home and wow they were good. My daughter got the Lemon Tart and loved it. I got the Blonde Brownie and the wife got the peach walnut cake. They were both delicious. We had some of the maroons and Chocolate the next day. We knew right away we had found where to go to get amazing Macaroons and some delicious Chocolate. We were all impressed at how beautiful both were and how very tasty they are. Edible Art was one way to describe them. Yes they are a little pricey but the quality is worth the price. I look forward to my next trip to Chistophe's but do wish they would come to Mt Pleasant!!! read more
