Terrible tasting, waste of money, bad service. First, it tastes bad. It's like mediocre homemade, non-fresh food. Second, it costs just as much as chipotle, so why even go here? Ask for extra portions at chipotle free of charge (except for meats). Third, there are items that are extra charge and not extra charge. They don't tell you which ones are, or warn you. I paid an extra dollar for some damn bell peppers. Who charges extra for veggies? I let the cashier/server know they should let people know if an item adds extra charge, and they didn't take the feedback well. Just stumbled to Chronic Tacos here after going to Donut Star ( yes I ate dessert before actual food ) and ordered the potato taco which was by $2.99 because we wanted to eat a little more. Brought my gf here so I purchased her one too and we were impressed. I honestly should have ordered more than 1 for myself but I was not looking for a hearty meal at the time but anyway try this taco joint and more specifically the potato taco if you're planning on spending little for something delicious and sort of filling ( like if you're going for some drinks later in the night and want to have something in your system). I love Chronic Tacos. Their fish tacos are some of the best fish tacos I've had. The fish is always deep fried to just the right amount. Their carnitas tacos are a strong second. The food is great and I enjoy everyone at the store...they are more than friendly and go out of their way to satisfy the customer except the older Hispanic woman at the register and sometimes makes the order. She talks (in Spanish) behind customers ears and ridicules them. I understand enough Spanish that she was talking about me and my order. I asked that she doesn't take my order any longer and I don't care for smart talk. I make my order and everything is fine until I get to the register...she charges me $2 extra for extra meet which I didn't order. I usually order a California burrito which comes out to $12 and some change, I am not willing to pay for something I didn't order, I am unwilling to pay close to $15 for a burrito, and I'm certainly unwilling to come here again as long as she's there. I think this place is pretty good. So far I've been there a few times, and I plan on going back. It's not quite authentic mexican food, but it's good. The flavors are classic, but they have their own flare. They have unique ingredients, like machaca. You just don't find that very often. I think it's a pretty good alternative to other taco & burrito places. Customer service is good as well and they make you feel welcome. They're currently my favorite breakfast burrito in Irvine so give them a try. The stuff I've tried was all good, including carne asada tacos, and breakfast burritos. I've been here a few times, and it's the very definition of a 3 star place: A-OK. I find the vegetarian breakfast burritos to be kind of bland and in need of some salt, and no amount of salsa can rescue them. I'm also adamantly opposed to places that advertise a vegetarian option that just means no meat. I mean, obviously I know that is the definition of vegetarian, but I dislike paying the same price as the meat option. At the very least, they could throw in some sauteed veggies (if not something more substantial like soyrizo or tofu). But I digress. Just tried this place for the first time. Got a carne asada burrito. It was tasty, good selection of toppings, massive, but nothing to write home about. I actually searched for a California Burrito in yelp (I used to live in San Diego, where they're everywhere) and it turned out they don't actually have California burritos. Chronic's "must tries" are their carnitas tacos, chips and guacamole, and churros. I've never been a big carnitas fan, but Chronic's carnitas tacos are so flavorful! Their guacamole is fresh and also flavorful. Chips are thin and cripsy and churros are fantastic. Light, not oily, and easy on the sugar, so they're not too sweet. This place just recently opened in the storefront that once housed my favorite tailor (see my review on Fellini's Tailoring). Anyway...I've heard so much hype about this place over the years that I had to give it a try. I don't really get the subtle drug reference in the name but maybe it's meant to appeal to a certain crowd/demographic? I digress... It was morning so I ordered a breakfast burrito (the standard to which I gauge any eatery specializing in Mexican fare). You get a choice of meats and I went with bacon...cause you can't really screw up a breakfast burrito with bacon, can you? For a fast food place, they sure take the 'fast' out of it...it took a whopping 10 minutes to get my burrito...that is simply unreasonable in my book and not only that my burrito contained potatoes which I had asked not to be included when giving my order but whatever I was hungry. You get pick your toppings so I went with safe ones like cheese, chopped onions, cilantro and spicy salsa. The shock was when it came time to pay...$6 for a breakfast burrito? Really? I mean...really? Whatever, I paid and hurried out to my table. I unwrapped my burrito, yes, it was pleasing to the eye. I took my first bite and it was meh...it's definitely better than a Carl's Jr. breakfast burrito (but that ain't saying much) but it still leaves much to be desired. The bacon lacked crisp that bacon should have, the potatoes (although I didn't really want them) were underwhelming and the eggs were too dry...even the salsa couldn't save it. Regardless, I wolfed down the burrito and vowed to write a review to warn my fellow yelpers. Perhaps their other menu selections are better but whether or not I will return has yet to be determined. I will leave this positive comment though, it's much better than El Cholo which is the Mexican restaurant in the corner of the parking lot so they might give them a run for their money. read more

Chronic Tacos serves mediocre food using mediocre ingredients. The fish and shrimp versions are particularly bland. If it weren't for the generous heaping of toppings (guacamole, lettuce, etc), the tacos would be near unpalatable. I do applaud the restaurant to for hiring cute girls in tank tops to work the line, which admittedly would probably succeed in getting me through the door at least a couple more times. Their Chronic Fries lasted me about 4 meals, and it was a lovely mix of everything I wanted. Fries are nice and large-cut, toppings are decent in both quality and quantity, and it all came out in less than 10 minutes. Tip** Tell the cashier you're going to order Chronic Fries right when you walk in, so they can start melting the cheese and stuff while you wait for your turn. Why did I go? This particular location is close to work, so when I need a fix this place does the job. What did I order? Typically I order a burrito or tacos. My favorites: Carne Asada - since this is one of the more popular ones I see them making it fresh pretty often. It's got good flavor without being overly seasoned, so you can still get some steak flavor. Carnitas - I could do with a little more salt, but it's always pretty tender and goes really well with the salsa. The spicy salsa I think has the right balance of spicy and mildly bitter chile with the sweetness of tomato. The rest of the ingredients: lettuce, rice, onions, cilantro, beans, tomatoes are always fresh and crisp. Insights? I think it's a little cheaper than chipotle and doesn't have that super sterile chain restaurant vibe which I like. Chronic does the basics really well, good salsa, well cooked meats, the right proportions and fresh vegetables. Gonna go back? I call chronic tacos and they say sorry but we can't do anything about it and want me to get a refund from Grubhub. I was craving some Mexican food one day this week and decided to hit Chronic Tacos. I was able to find parking easily but the problem was when I walked through the door. I ordered a carne taco salad and 3 carne tacos for a coworker. The meat was very grisly, my taco salad shell was completely stale and rubber like. Two stars because it's edible and passes the "Could this be called a burrito?" test. Service was good, if a bit rushed for lunch hour. Employees working like a pretty well oiled machine. Food is bland. The burrito is 90% rice and beans, with a meager sprinkling of meat, veggies, and cheese on top. At the points I can taste the meat over the overpowering beans, it tastes pretty good, but I did get a piece of gristle. Pricing is okay considering it's Irvine, about $5 for a small burrito or $7 for a large burrito. They also charge extra for things like veggie fajitas or extra veggies (something free at Chipotle). My wife and I really enjoyed the freshly made Vegetarian Tacos and Burrito at Chronic Tacos. The $2.99 Taco comes with double Corn or Wheat Tortillas, and with all the fillings you want including hot black or pinto beans, rice, pico de gallo, guacamole, fajita vegetables, and more. The Burrito is humongous, and will take a huge workout to digest it :) My wife thought it had too much rice (you can always let the server know the quantity). We also enjoyed a side of chips and their spicy salsa (mind you, it can set your mouth and sinuses on fire). I was glad to finally try this place out, it's nice to know that they're making more locations because the food is very good. I will mention something, I'm a wimp when it comes to all of those spicy foods, so unless the worker lied about it being hot I think the hot sauce is a joke. I just know that some friends enjoy the hot foods. This isn't even mild. I still thought the food was very tasty and filling, and the price wasn't bad at all. We all had plenty of food without it hurting our pockets. This is a wonderful little restaurant to try out. The food is always amazing here so I have no complaints about the food but this was by far the worst customer experience I had ever experienced. I come for dinner often but today I came for lunch and the ladies working here were extremely disrespectful, rude, and unprofessional. The lady who took my order didn't understand what I wanted which is fine but she had an attitude about it. If you don't understand, ask again and ask nicely. Even that wasn't too upsetting. What really got to me was The cashier who was even more rude to me. I didn't know what the 3 taco deal was because I had never ordered it before so she charged me for it then changed the total when I said I didn't want it but the price went up instead. So then I asked to order the 3 taco deal instead. It could have been avoided if she had just explained to me what it was instead of hastily changing the price. Then she started speaking to her coworker in Spanish which obviously shows she was saying nasty things about me in a language I don't understand. Bottom line is- if a customer doesn't know something or isn't familiar with the menu, explain and give information. Don't be disrespectful. So naturally, I went to Yelp to see the suggestions and found Chronic tacos. It was only 3 stars so I was hesitant but saw that I could order online and add any topping I wanted for no extra charge. After exploring a bit more I've realized that this place hits my cravings of a basic Californian burrito. Good, but not amazing!

I think this place is my definition of three stars: mediocre, boring, forgettable, not worth returning. It's not great, it's not terrible. In other words, it's just okay. You get a lot of food for your money, but the food's not very good. I had a the burrito with white rice (veg folks, note that the Spanish rice is not vegetarian) and black beans, and I added the grilled veggies. We also tried the refried beans, and the chips and salsa. I just don't have anything interesting to say about the food, because it was boring. It was filling, and it tasted okay. I appreciated the fact that I could add grilled veggies to my meal. The chips were pretty good as far as restaurant chips go; they tasted fresh and were probably the best part of the meal. Overall, Chronic Tacos is okay, but for Mexican fast food, I'd recommend Chipotle, or even Taco Bell or Del Taco instead. read more

I've been holding out on trying Chronic Tacos for a long time now. It might sound silly but it's the truth. I live literally a few blocks from the Long Beach location, but with so many great established Mexican eateries in the LB, I always moved CT aside...down the list...back of the bus...pick your saying. Ok, I get it...weed tacos...and the nautical star (Yes, I have some tattooed on me from like 10 years ago)...I don't know, the whole gimmick was a little too "So-Cal Bro" for me to embrace. So when my Canadian buddy suggests hitting up this Irvine location, I let down the guard and gave it a chance. CT reminded me a lot of Freebirds (review will come once I go there again, it's been a while) in the way it's a "build your own" taco/burrito shop. Went with a carnitas burrito with white rice, pinto beans, cheese, cilantro, hot salsa, and lime. Made it a combo (large drink / chips and pico de gallo) for about 9 bucks. The burrito (one size, 13 inch flour tortilla) was a monster. The carnitas was moist and flavorful. Didn't find the "hot salsa" to be hot enough, so I added some of Dexter Holland's (Offspring) "Gringo Bandito" hot sauce as I needed. For a "chain" restaurant, I was pleasantly surprised. Would go here any day over Chipotle (over-rated) and depending on my next Freebirds experience, may decide CT over them too. Now if I'm back in LB, sorry guys...I have my go-to spots. But if I'm out and about with no authentic taquerias in sight...I would consider hitting up another CT. read more

Chronic Tacos is a pretty decent place for quick Mexican food. I find the ingredients to be a level below Chipotle, but all in all I still enjoy it. For those who have never been here you order as such: Selct your desired item- Taco, burrito, tostada bowl, quesadilla, nachos- Then select your rice (white or spanish)- Then select your beans (Refried, pinto or black)- Then select your meat (Chicken, carne asada, carnitas or al pastor)- Then select if you want veggies- Then select if you want cheese, raw white onions, cilantro, guacamole (Extra)- Then select if you want pico and your salsa choice. What i've tried: Chicken Burrito- Spanish rice, pinto beans, chicken, onion, cilantro, cheese and green salsa. It is pretty yummy. Sometimes the rice is too dry, but worst of all is the pinto beans are not drained enough and cause the tortilla to break with ease. Chicken Quesadilla- Cheese and chicken. Awesomeness! Seasoned chicken pressed with cheese. Breakfast Burrito- Eggs, potato, bacon, cheese, onion, cilantro and green salsa. My favorite thing from here!
