    Fish Taco a la Carte

We stopped into Chronic Tacos today for some fast casual Mexican food in the heart of Irvine. The service was friendly and efficient, in the midst of the bustling lunch rush. If you like a casual quick ambiance, there is outdoor seating only at this location. I ordered a fish taco and Chronic fries, with an horchata on the side. I got the green salsa which had a nice kick. This is a good place to stop by if you want something fresh and spicy. Enjoy!

This place is more of a quick service taco place. Similar to chipotle the food is sitting out and you choose your options. Lead was a little dry. For the kids meal and two taco. No inside seating so you are sitting outside next to the street and parking.

We live in Long Beach and go to the Lakewood chronic Taco almost every Friday. We ended up coming to this location and it blew away the Lakewood location. The guac was homemade (some of the best guac I have ever eaten), they weren't cheap on the beans and rice, and they were very nice. They greeted us as soon as we walked in. Gerardo is the one who helped us.

Got a carne asada burrito and side of chips to go, but I saw they had patio tables outdoors for people who want dine in, offering the perfect ambiance on a sunny day. In terms of food, the carne asada burrito was wrapped with flour tortilla and stuffed with white rice, refried beans, carne asada and some lettuce and tomatoes. The flour tortilla was really good, and tasted like it was freshly made (as opposed to the pre made ones with tons of preservatives). I was a bit disappointed with the stuffing inside, as the stuff inside was pretty flavorless (e.g. white rice was very plain, lettuce a bit soggy). The chips were decent, although the salsa Verde was a bit too spicy for my taste. Overall, still a decent option in Irvine during your lunch break, but nothing to write home about.

The worst customer service. This lady deserves to have a conversation with the manager owner.

The rest of the staff exception except for this one woman at the cash register. She was extremely rude, over Tramy, even though I pointed out, and refused to provide me with the jalapeños that I asked for. It's a small thing especially when you're paying over 10 bucks for a burrito.. I will say the rest of the staff was great and I could tell that they were looking at her for being so rude.

I use to come to chronic religiously in high school for lunch, especially on Tuesday. I decided to come back and give it a try today. The portions are huge. They definitely don't skimp on the toppings but they do on the protein... the carne asada was dry and tough, however the free guac made up for it. 3.5/5

Are your beans and rice vegetarian? Or are they cooked in lard or chicken stock?

Good morning. All our beans are vegan. No animal products are added. Our white lime rice is also vegan. However, our Spanish rice is made with chicken stock and/or chicken bouillon. Thank you!

Can I just order fries by themself without any toppings?

Of course you can! Come give them a try.

Do they have Taco Tuesday deal here?

Yes, they have pollo, carnitas, al pastor, or carne asada tacos for $2 each on Tuesdays.

The brunch menu was limiting, with only a few egg dishes, sandwiches, and breads. The French toast and waffle were nearly $20 each despite the small portions and standard toppings. *French Toast: the worst item of the meal. The bread had no flavor or egginess and left a strange sandy mouthfeel. The interior was so dry that it soaked up all the moisture in my mouth. A poor showing for a classic French toast. *Waffle: the batter was slightly sweetened but felt too dense. The fruit was fresh, although nothing about the toppings or overall quality stood out. *Steak Frites: hanger steak topped with chimichurri and fries. It was supposed to come with bernaise sauce, but I did not receive any. The steak leaned closer to rare rather than the medium rare I asked for. However, it was still tender, and the chimichurri was vibrant and herbaceous. I wished more sauce had been applied, as the dish was a bit dry. The fries were decent, though I would have preferred more crunch. Given the long wait, I expected much more from the dishes in terms of flavor and execution. I was disappointed by how flavorless and dry everything was.

Plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor with a fireplace outside for those chilly nights and where you can just relax and unwind. It's a very convenient restaurant for the surrounding businesses that would like to grab lunch without having to drive, have meetings or want a drink right after work. I was reviewing some of the dishes a couple of months before our arrival and thought this would be a nice early birthday dinner so I went ahead and reserved the 5pm dinner slot. But now let's get to the food! FOOD Short Ribs Croquettes (Appetizer) These were delightful. Not only cute and presentable but the flavors were delicious, a perfect combination of everything! Especially the aji amarillo aioli. Don't be shy when taking a scoop of the aioli, be sure to give the croquettes a nice drench of it! Highly recommend! Sea Bass Crudo (Appetizer) Presentation may seem a bit flat but I promise you it's packed with flavor! Prepared with citrus ponzu, serrano and garlic chili crunch, the Sea Bass Crudo is definitely refreshing with a bit of a kick! Looking for a shareable seafood type appetizer? Then you should absolutely try this out! Streak Frites This one felt like it would be a nice balanced healthy lunch. Marinated steak with bourbon peppercorn sauce sitting on a bed of fries featuring a nice portion of salad. Had the steak cooked medium and it was just perfect. I wouldn't mind ordering this dish again! Work nearby and want a balance of everything? Then this is the dish for you! Braised Short Rib Probably my favorite one. Meat easily melts in every bite. Paired with those whipped potatoes beneath? Forget it! It may seem like a small dish but it gets filling pretty quick. I think this is another dish I'll be ordering the next time we visit! Peach Butter Cake (Dessert) I seem to have found myself in trouble when taking that first initial bite because I couldn't stop myself indulging its rich flavor! I was already full at this point but this was too damn delicious. It's got the same concept of a pizookie and I'm a sucker for this type of dessert! Love pizookies? Peach jam? Then you should get this! Guarantee you'll have it all to yourself! OVERALL Actually glad we were able to try this place out as I just stumbled upon it a couple months before. Great establishment for dates, small hangouts, big parties or an after work dinner. Spacious interior with comfy seatings and a modern look to the place. Oh and don't forget to get your parking ticket validated! Special thanks to the team and for the GM Chris Teng for checking up on us from time to time to ensure we were enjoying our experience. Nothing really is made fresh in store though, everything is toasted with the order and microwaved or sliced/smeared by a couple of young'uns behind the counter. The eggs are not scrambled but flat and previously cooked. But in the jalapeño and cheese bagel it added a lot more flare and panache to an otherwise uneventful filling. The one major thing that is unignorable was utterly how warm it was in the shack. It's middle of August at high noon, measuring 100° outside and as soon as you as walk in the doors, you are greeted by an ever unchanging warmth. And if you're like me hungry and unwilling to wait for home to eat, it's going to be a sweaty meal even before the second bite. Both doors were open and no air was flowing through any of the 4 tables and counter. Slightly less so with the tables outside. Also.. why do they ask if it's for here or to go if the food comes out in to go containers regardless of what you say? I don't know but it is so. At least the bagel was properly toasted and warmed. Couple of vegetarian options as well as ham and lox.

I knew about their fried chicken, but I didn't know they had chicken sandwiches too. I got the Spicy Vietnamese Chicken Sandwich, 4 wings, and garlic noodles. Tip: If you order through the app, you can skip the wait and get a free garlic noodle. I think it's only for your first order on the app, though, and I'm not sure how long the deal lasts. Wings -- 3/5 The wings were okay, but pretty mediocre. I got one flat and three drumettes, which was a little disappointing. The flavor and crispiness were both kind of lacking, and I ate them fresh too. The seasoning reminded me of that lobster green onion sauce you'd get at a Vietnamese-Chinese restaurant. Spicy Vietnamese Chicken Sandwich -- 4/5 The sandwich was definitely better. The chicken had a good crisp to it, but sadly, it was overfried and wasn't cooked evenly. The edges were noticeably darker than the center, and the chicken itself was thinner than I expected. The sauce didn't taste like anything particularly special either--it was giving spicy mayo, if anything. The vegetables and pickles made the sandwich taste similar to another famous chicken sandwich place. I actually liked it overall, but because the chicken wasn't fried evenly, I'd give it a 4/5. Garlic Noodles The garlic noodles were okay. They definitely had a lot of garlic, but I didn't think the cheese on top was necessary. It kind of ruined it for me. I won't rate this one since it was free, but I probably wouldn't order it again. Service wasn't bad. It was super busy when I went, so I had to wait a little longer than the estimated pickup time. There's ample seating inside, although the AC was kind of lacking. Overall, I'd probably come back for the chicken sandwich and give it another try, especially if a friend wanted to go. I wouldn't really recommend the other items I tried, though.
