The best chronic taco location out there! Their food never misses and they have fun extras on the menu that you don't find at the other franchise locations. Their portions are a great size and the food is very flavorful. I tried the churro ice cream this time around and it was great! The churro was actually fresh, warm and crispy - not stale or dry like they can be when they've been sitting out. You get to add a topping but the dust of Reese's pieces didn't really add much. I LOVE me a churro and that's why my husband found parking as we were leaving town and ran in to just grab me some, since the sign outside said something about having "amazing churros"..... I ate 2 bites and didn't eat anymore. As I type this I still have 1.5 left and it's been 24 hours. When I say churros never last, I mean it. I usually buy enough from a well known bakery up north so that I can bring them home and freeze them. Defrosted and not warmed up from their is better than these "fresh" ones! Funnily enough, at first I was a little skeptical because I always eat tacos back home and I didn't want to eat any more But I'm glad I agreed in the end!! I got the 2 Tacos Plate, which was a good deal for only $10. It came with two tacos that were LOADED, along with a side of rice and beans (I swapped out the beans for an extra portion of rice). Even though two tacos may not seem like *that* much for some people, I have a pretty big appetite and by the last few bites of my second taco, I was soo full lol so it definitely fills you up. I want to start by saying that this review is specific to the churros, that's all we ordered - I didn't try their tacos and they looked great. We got an order of the mini churros, and an order of the churro loop with soft serve ice cream. The mini churros were yummy and they came out fast and in hindsight we wished we had some left to enjoy with the soft serve when that finally came out. The churro loops they sell seem to be from a small vendor, we waited 15 minutes for 1 sad little small churro loop to come out of the kitchen, and they forgot to add the cinnamon sugar so it was just sad kinda hard fried dough. And it was really small in terms of size and thickness. The soft serve was delicious, the place was clean and the staff was nice. But we specifically had searched for a churro spot in Newport and came across this, and were disappointed. Skip the churro loop and get the mini churros with soft serve, in my opinion. read more

Staff is always so rude, even on pick up orders. Not sure if it's the owner or manager, but first time in he made us the smallest bean and cheese burrito I've ever seen and I chalked it up to being an hour from closing so I didn't say anything, and yes we tipped since we paid onsite. Finally went back for a breakfast pick up a few months later and when he handed me the bag he made a point to tap the tip jar. When I got home, it was missing ingredients. I ordered a 12oz swirl ice cream with a churro loop in a bowl, I had to wait like 20 mins for it ( which I understand) but then the dude hand me an ice cream on a cone and I was like dude this isn't what I ordered so he checked and dumped the ice cream into a bowl and put it in the mini freezer thing on the bottom cause the churro wasn't ready yet, when the churro came out he sticked it in and handed it to me and I was like this still isn't right I ordered a swirl this is just plain vanilla, he was like oh I'll just add some chocolate on top, ( by the time he handed it to me the ice cream already melted on the puddle and leaked out and made a mess everywhere) it already took a long and I don't know if I had time to wait for another bowl so I just took it but damn how do you get the same ice cream order wrong twice. read more

I have been visiting Chronic Tacos on Balboa Peninsula since its opening and it never disappoints! The food is insanely good: fresh, flavorful, and super satisfying. I had the burrito with pollo and it was next-level-massive, perfectly wrapped, and packed with juicy, well-seasoned meat, rice, beans, and all the extras including the Baja sauce. I usually really like this place. The owner Dan is really nice, really nice location ... just need a more solid staff maybe that loves the place like us customers do. Main reasons why I did not give a 1 star for this experience. Haven't been here in 2 years due to my last experience of them serving small portions and cleanliness. I came in yesterday for a burrito. Once again, small portions and lack of cleanliness. I had to ask him to add more beans and rice to my burrito. Even when I asked for guac and chips, he filled the guac half way. I had to ask him if he can fill it to the top and he still didn't. The food set up did not look clean and organized. The food products are really exposed which probably led to me having a stomach ache yesterday. This morning, my stomach still does not feel well. It feels heavy. Once again, I believe it's all about the staff. I never had complaints about the Irvine location. There staff keeps the food station clean and organized. They are always nice and talkative. Tacos street style were delicious! I ordered 3 carne asada tacos and each were filled with a lot of meat, they were $4.50 each. I washed them down with a bottle of coke, trust me the perfect combo. It's quick and easy, order at the counter, and you can watch them make your food. Take your food to the beach or if you're lucky you can eat inside but there is limited seating.
