    Vegetarian 2 Taco Plate
    Risha S.

Came here with a few friends to satisfy my taco craving, and this place delivered! I got a two taco plate, and you're able to choose your style of tacos. My tacos were stuffed, and were definitely a reasonable price. It was great that they had vegetarian options already listed, which made it easier to order. The place itself was pretty neat too and I would love to come back.

The best chronic taco location out there! Their food never misses and they have fun extras on the menu that you don't find at the other franchise locations. Their portions are a great size and the food is very flavorful. I tried the churro ice cream this time around and it was great! The churro was actually fresh, warm and crispy - not stale or dry like they can be when they've been sitting out. You get to add a topping but the dust of Reese's pieces didn't really add much. Greta spot!!

I loved the environment, the workers were so kind, and the food was delicious. As a hispanic i'm very picky with my tacos but they NAILED it. 1000/10 recommend. Everyone needs to come here!!

Great service! Took care of me and my friends after whale watching. Great owner! Thank you!

Came across this place while on a little trip to Balboa Island with my friends and it did not disappoint. Funnily enough, at first I was a little skeptical because I always eat tacos back home and I didn't want to eat any more But I'm glad I agreed in the end!! I got the 2 Tacos Plate, which was a good deal for only $10. It came with two tacos that were LOADED, along with a side of rice and beans (I swapped out the beans for an extra portion of rice). Even though two tacos may not seem like *that* much for some people, I have a pretty big appetite and by the last few bites of my second taco, I was soo full lol so it definitely fills you up. Interior was cute as well, kinda small but comfortable. We sat by the window and it let in a nice breeze.

Killer tacos! Came to this location while visiting Newport Beach with family and got a 2 taco plate with 1 asada and 1 shrimp taco Baja style and they were sooooo good! Definitely recommend if you're in the area.

Excellent tacos, loved the barria, asada and pollo asada. The beans were delicious also. Customer service was excellent. Highly recommended!

I came here to satisfy a craving and was a bit disappointed. I got the california burrito and I like how it is fresh made and you can choose the toppings you want on it. However, the flavor was lacking and I do not believe it was worth the price. The protion sizes are decent, but the taste was average. The workers were kind and helpful, but the food was subpar. The restaurant had tables to sit at and was clean.

I want to start by saying that this review is specific to the churros, that's all we ordered - I didn't try their tacos and they looked great. We got an order of the mini churros, and an order of the churro loop with soft serve ice cream. The mini churros were yummy and they came out fast and in hindsight we wished we had some left to enjoy with the soft serve when that finally came out. The churro loops they sell seem to be from a small vendor, we waited 15 minutes for 1 sad little small churro loop to come out of the kitchen, and they forgot to add the cinnamon sugar so it was just sad kinda hard fried dough. And it was really small in terms of size and thickness. The soft serve was delicious, the place was clean and the staff was nice. But we specifically had searched for a churro spot in Newport and came across this, and were disappointed. Skip the churro loop and get the mini churros with soft serve, in my opinion.

Mahi mahi taco and carne asada taco plate
    Kaitlin S.

These tacos were soooooooo good. The mahi was cooked to order, the salsa was incredible, and we cannot wait to come back! We are used to small street tacos that you need to eat 3 or 4 of to fill you up, but these were not small. They were stuffed full of meat and hit the spot for lunch or dinner. DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE!

What we love about this place is they have happy hour everyday from open to I believe 7, you can't beat that! The food and drinks: we got a tamarindo margarita and we liked it a lot. Good flavor although it could have used a bit more alcohol. For tapas we got: croquetas de queso y jamon (we loved them, they were probably our favorite), calamari (it was so good!), empanadas (my boyfriend said they were good), short rib tacos (they were okay but not the greatest), patatas bravas (only thing I wasn't a fan of). Overall, really great food, service and ambiance. We will definitely be back!

However, the loud music and dancing inside the restaurant negatively impacted the overall dining experience. The noise level was too much even in the outdoor seating area. I do recommend the restaurant for the food though.

We sat at the bar while waiting for our table, and were greeted by a friendly, knowledgeable bar tender, who recommended items from the tapas menu. We requested, and were seated at, a quiet table in the back patio. The wait staff and service was friendly, professional, and outstanding. We ordered tapas, and loved every bite, from the Papas Brava and Bikini Sandwich to the Panza de Cerdo. These three tapas were more than enough for the two of us. They were filling, delicious, and did not disappoint. We topped it all off with tastes of Vaca's homemade flan and almond paste cake. DELICIOUS! But Vaca is also an expensive high-end steak and Iberian ham restaurant, with every cut of expertly aged beef and Spanish Iberian cured ham imaginable. All in all, Vaca is a great moderately priced tapas and paella restaurant, and also it is an expensive premium steak/ham restaurant. We think you'll enjoy the ambiance, service and most of all, the food. We give it our high recommendation.

Which worked out for us since we were able to use the restaurants valet service and leave our car there until after the show. As soon as we walked in, I was in awe of how cool the place looked! The bar located near the front door was very inviting and definitely made me want to go back just to sit there for a couple of cocktails. Speaking of cocktails, their signature, The Vaca Tonic was my favorite cocktail that I tried. It's refreshing, pretty and definitely had me ordering a second one. They have a variety of spirits to choose from, but the Gin cocktails were definitely my favorite. For dinner, my husband and I choose the Tapas route and order a few plates to share. The Carpaccio, Gambas Al Ajillo(sautéed shrimp) and the La Bola(upscale version of potato balls) were my favorite dishes. This isn't to say that our other plates weren't delicious, I'm just saying these plates left me wanting more. Last but not least, we ended the night with a slice of their Basque Cheesecake, and oh my goodness, this had to be hands down, one of the best cheesecakes I've ever had. I was so full, but there was no way we were leaving any piece of the cheesecake uneaten. Now, this restaurant is more on the pricey side. But, I would 100% recommend to try once or make it a priority to check out when you have a special occasion to celebrate!

The restaurant has a warm, inviting atmosphere with a beautiful design that strikes a nice balance between upscale and comfortable. It's the kind of place where you can settle in and enjoy a leisurely meal. We started with the roasted bone marrow, which was pure indulgence. I spread that rich, nutty, buttery goodness over the crispy toast points, and every bite was better than the last. Next came the prawns. The chefs did an outstanding job highlighting the natural umami from the shrimp head before the sweetness of the corn and shallots blended perfectly with the tender, succulent shrimp. It was a dish that kept evolving with every bite. The smoked short rib was the star of the meal. I asked for the sauce on the side, but it was clear the meat had already been cooked sous vide with the sauce, allowing those deep, savory flavors to fully penetrate every bite. The result was an incredibly tender short rib that practically melted in my mouth. Absolutely delicious. From the welcoming ambiance to the thoughtfully executed dishes, Fable and Spirit delivered a memorable dining experience. I'll definitely be making a return visit the next time I'm in the area.

Service: Everyone who passed was quick to greet us and check in with us, all of them friendly and welcoming. This continued throughout the meal, and it was awesome to chat with so many people. We even got a few moments with Chef Zach, which was a bonus! Ambiance: The atmosphere is dark (as expected) and lively, with the staff taking turns working the turntables to keep the music going. (I loved this little detail.) Food: Easily a 10/10 food experience, though due to the dark lighting, my pictures don't do the dishes justice! Head to their instagram to see better pics of the food. We had the tuna crudo, hamachi crudo, scotch olives, and wagyu tartare. All of these items were incredible, and those scotch olives were a definite standout. Our bartender Scotty was friendly and attentive, and the rest of the staff was awesome too. We can't wait to return for Chrysalis, and we're looking forward to visiting the new restaurant concept as soon as that's up and running! 10/10 experience all around. Well done!!

We went to Darkroom for my fiancés birthday and were slightly disappointed…read more The good: the steak was really tasty and had different flavor components like the crispy chilli and shishito peppers that complimented the meat very well. It was well balanced and the best dish of the night. The scrambled egg agnolotti was delicious as well and was paired with a savory slightly sour sauce what helped with the heaviness. The bad: We were recommended the house made focaccia to dip into the steak sauce but it was served 15 minutes before the steak came out so was cold by the time we needed it. The biggest disappointment of the night was the $29 tuna crudo. We should have taken the description by face value: tuna, tomato water, vanilla nori oil (we thought this might be the flavor but we were wrong. It was just oil), passion fruit. It quite literally tasted like oily tuna in plain water with passion fruit seeds floating around. The passion fruit overwhelmed the flavor profile. There was so little tuna for the steep price (like 3 sashimi pieces chopped up). It wasn't even a high quality cut. Even if it wasn't, the flavor of the tuna was somehow completed sapped - leaving just the texture. The overall pricing for the menu was very steep with small portion sizes but at least the other plates we had actually tasted good. We also appreciated the complimentary dessert that was given for my fiancés bday. The service was great as well. Looking at previous reviews, it seems that the experimental dishes are either a hit or miss

We started with the mussels, served in a light garlic broth with a thick slice of charred, garlic-rubbed bread perched on top and finished with fresh microgreens. The bread alone was worth it, crispy and blistered on the outside, soft in the middle, perfect for soaking up the broth. The French onion soup was rich and deeply savory, with a broiled cheese cap that held together beautifully when you broke through it with your spoon, finished with fresh herbs for a little brightness. For the main, the grilled lamb chop was cooked exactly to temperature, great char on the outside, tender and juicy in the center. It came with a hearty herbed grain salad and a vibrant chimichurri that cut through the richness perfectly. We also had a couple of their cocktails, one with a sugared rim and both really well balanced, not overly sweet like a lot of happy hour drinks tend to be. The atmosphere is warm and intimate, wood tones throughout, low lighting, lively but not overwhelming.
