I've been a customer with CHS for many years and have no complaints. They are always friendly to me on the phone. I expect that during snowy or icy conditions they will not risk their drivers' lives for my comfort. My heat is always set at 63, so the people complaining they had to turn their heat down are clearly more concerned for their own comfort than that of others. And for some unstated reason, Yelp doesn't show the other 5-star rating. Yelp is a terrible place to go for reviews anyway, you know that, right? read more

Ever since they switched to a new billing process about a year ago things have been terrible. Invoices are sent super late and even when paid within a day they will still hit you with late fees. Not sure if that's a way to generate extra revenue but we have cancelled our account. Plenty of other propane delivery companies out there! Good bye! read more

"Customer service" is supposed to be about offering service to the customer, correct? For the very first time, after being faithful customers for 23 years with this company, we ran out of propane this morning. Upon calling to find out why our service was stopped, my husband was actually yelled at by the first woman he spoke with. She treated him as though he were a delinquent, trying to scam her! Their mode of business/payment is...they fill the tank, then leave the invoice on a doorknob. Ours had been left outside on a rainy November day on the ground next to a door we rarely use. So the payment was very late. Upon discovery, my husband called immediately and made the payment. He was told that this would not interrupt our service at all. Then they thanked him for making the payment. Today he had the phone on speaker, so I heard the entirety of the conversations. He was so very patient with this woman's' unprofessional attitude. She was rude, disorganized, disrespectful, repeated herself multiple times, and when she didn't like a question he asked, she just raised her voice to get him to stop speaking. The second woman he spoke with was SO condescending it was ridiculous. She kept repeating things very slowly as if he wasn't understanding what she was saying. I might add...my husband is a very successful businessman who has dealt with the public and bookkeepers for 40+ years. He's extremely sharp. He was asking an entirely different question. But she just kept repeating her answer to the previous question. Both these women have absolutely no business being in customer service. We are business owners ourselves. My husband said if our employees treated our customers this way, they would be fired. They told us because our payment was so late that we no longer qualify for their automatic refill program. Now we have to request a refill, then be home when they come to refill, and pay them on the spot. We asked why they don't let people set up automatic refills and payments with a credit card. We received no satisfactory answer. But they did take my husband's credit card out of their file and charged him more than they needed to, before they would send a driver out to fill our tank. I know, I know. It doesn't make any sense at all. This company sort of has a monopoly on propane services around here. I guess that's why they don't really seem to care much about customer service, even to people who have been faithful customers for over 23 years. I will add this: my husband called again and spoke with a gentleman I'm sorry I don't know his name. He took care of things immediately. I won't go into all the details, except to say this, HE should be running their customer service department! Believe it or not, I have actually left out details about the extra fees the women tried to charge us, along with all the rather insulting comments they gave my husband about missing a payment. We have been getting propane from CHS for the last 8 years without any problems. We recently ran out of propane and found out we had been taken off of auto refill because we listed our house for sale. We did not sell our home and somehow missed the message that we were no longer on auto refill. Elaine made it right for us, within an hour a very nice man showed up and refilled our tank and he even lit the pilot light on our water heater. I was very impressed with their service. read more

This would be the day before it snowed but they didnt come. I called Monday And the lady was very rude!!! She said you know when you call its and least a week out (never has been before) and also said YOU DO KNOW WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF A SNOW STORM RIGHT! Yes that's why I called ahead of time... Meanwhile my tank was down to 1% had to turn the heat down to 60 in the house and use a couple space heaters. They charged me the day I called on the 5th for an estimated amount of propane I needed and did not deliver until the 16th. And didnt even fill my tank only filled the estimated amount i needed 11 days prior while temps were in the teens. so they filled it up to 65%.. Wow, no apologies or anything. Update 1: As I said in my initial review, I called them on 01/29/2022 around 9 AM. They delivered the propane by 12:30 PM.

This company is not reliable. They Don't care if you run out! They will offer you a monitor for your tank! They do not refill as promised. If you call in the fall to prevent an empty tank, they will refuse to fill! I'm a senior and a caregiver to my disabled husband. I explained all of that to the lady. DOES NOT MATTER! So no power, no heat, no water. This is putting people in danger! read more

If you are looking for a propane service, stay away from this company! I get that we are on the heels of a huge snow storm, but this company lied to me about when they would come out. We are now down to 12% on our tank - I first called them 10 days ago when we were at 32%. We spent money and hard work making sure our driveway was cleared so the truck can access the house. I called them again to let them know that our driveway had been cleared, and we were at 25%. I called them again this past Monday to let them know that we were at 18% and that we have to fill up once a month. I was told that a driver would be in the area by the end of the week. Here it is the end of the week and still no delivery. I just got off the phone with them (again) and was told that the schedules were made days ago and we would have to wait until Monday. The heat has been turned down to 63 degrees, the stove and oven haven't been used in a week. And to make matters worse, we've seen their trucks fly by our house. So yeah, I am pissed and I yelled at the lady on the phone. Her response? "Don't yell at me. I didn't do anything." My response? "Don't lie to me and I won't yell." Oh, and I did I mention it's snowing again as I write this? You better believe I am looking elsewhere for propane. read more

CHS Auburn has been our propane company for over 20 years. We've been on auto-delivery for a very long time and until the last couple of years it has worked great and been low-stress for us as the company was supposed to estimate when we were due for fill-ups and it just happened. We didn't have to worry, check our tank gauge, etc. The last couple of years that has completely changed. Auto-fill seems to mean nothing, we've almost run out of propane twice (i.e. below 5% and the garage starts to smell like gas which we're told is natural as the added scent is more concentrated at the bottom of the tank). Customer service on the phone has not been the best experience, no delivery date is provided just a "we'll notify your driver," and I've called 2-3 times AFTER getting below 25% with absoluetey no sense of urgency from CHS. I no longer feel like a valued long-term customer, and if their service continues at it's current level I will begin the process of looking for another propane provider which is unfortunate... and a hassle for us. If I were a new customer looking for propane I would NOT recommend CHS at this time. Our driver is great, but the office staff and management are no longer what they used to be and our experience is frustrating. Our home relies on propane for heat, hot water and our clothes dryer. As a long-term auto-fill customer I expect to be taken seriously when my tank gets into the teens or below the 10% mark. Keeping it full is the responsibiity of CHS, not me, as they are the ones 'competing' for my business. They seem to have forgotten that I can get propane from many sources and that to keep my business they should be working hard to keep their customers happy. Right now it seems like the person answering the phone could care less, their auto-fill estimation program is a complete joke, and based on the other recent reviews I am seeing it appears that our recent experiences are not isolated and that the company is struggling to provide a basic level of service for their customer base. read more
