I was a little skeptical when my nephew chose this place. It's a little dark and divey when you walk in. But then we were greeted by the friendliest people. They seemed to be family. My group placed their orders and the ladies that helped us were just the nicest. We waited hardly no time for our burgers to come out. I ordered the Zydeco burger. I am not lying when I tell you this was the best hamburger I've had all year. It beats Five Guys and it beats Mug Shots. Something about the way the bun was toasted and the crispy onions were in just the right amount. IT TASTED DELICIOUS! The sauce on that burger was great. It was the perfect burger. And the Cajun fries were the perfect complement. So if you want the best burger you'll have all year... AND great service, then roll on down to Chubbfathers. You'll be glad you did! read more

I wanted to give a 5 star review so bad, unfortunately the service bumped it down. We stopped by for dinner on a Tuesday night. It wasn't crowded, maybe half the tables occupied. We placed our order and I had high expectations after paying $30 for 2 burgers, fries, and cokes. The soda machine is behind the counter but it's still self serve. We were sitting next to the food window and the kitchen staff kept filling it up with orders, but no one came to deliver them. I saw food sit 15 minutes in the window. We grew tired of waiting and I asked for our order to be made to go, or cancelled if it was going to be much longer. The woman at the register was quite flustered as the restaurant was now very busy. Turns out our food was one of the orders sitting in the window. She asked the kitchen to box it up to go, and an argument ensued. Finally about 10 minutes later, we had our food and left. Now the food itself, even after sitting all that time, was absolutely incredible! I had the zydeco burger which has bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion straws, and Cajun horseradish The beef patty was perfectly cooked, the bacon was thick and crisp, and the flavors just went together beautifully. I forget the name of my husbands burger but it was a double with cheese, lettuce, tomato, bacon, grilled onions, and bbq sauce. We both opted for the fries, and I dipped mine in more of the Cajun horseradish. I would love to go back again soon. I hope the service we got was a fluke. The food is too good to be brought down by poor service. Edit to add: it was 45 minutes from when I placed the order to when we asked for it to go. read more

After reading the great reviews and ratings, my wife and I decided to try out this place last night while we were nearby...and we weren't disappointed! Both of us had the Zydeco burger, one with tater tots, the other with fried okra. The burgers were grilled just right and piled high with fresh ingredients, including the crispy & tasty onion straws. The tater tots and fried okra were both nice & crispy and kept their texture throughout the meal (rather than getting soggy as sometimes happens at other places). The seasoning on the tater tots was very unique (spices like a hint of nutmeg & cloves - not overpowering, just different & interesting) and unlike the typical fried/salty flavor of most tots. The owner was present on a Friday night (at a burger joint!), working in various roles and interacting with patrons. I've found you rarely go wrong at a restaurant where the owner is present and visible, and that certainly explains a lot about our experience here and the obvious attention to detail. We met and visited with him briefly at our table and learned that he has a passion for what he does that goes far beyond just making money or even just running a good restaurant. His passion and hands-on touch are the secret ingredients to the success of Chubbfathers, without a doubt! The only drawback I noticed was that the environment wasn't very pleasant - worn, somewhat sterile decor with "harsh" bright lighting. However, during our conversation with the owner, we learned (without bringing it up) there are plans for an upgrade of the interior beginning next week, so we're eager to see what the new look will be. I finally got to go back to Chubfather's and tried the shrimp po boy. This is a very good sandwich. It is full of shrimp and the Cajun horseradish sauce sets it apart from any I have had. My only complaint was that it wasn't a foot long. But considering we are 2 years into Biden's America, $13.99 for a sandwich this good is almost a devine miracle. Awesome food. Local owned burger place that's about 30 min from downtown Birmingham. So worth the drive! Business was busy when we arrived. There seemed to be families coming in and out constantly, good for them! First of all the customer service was great. The staff was very friendly. Masks were enforced and tables were distanced. We ordered the Philly cheesesteak with fried okra, the zydeco burger with seasoned fries, and an order of the hot lemon pepper wings extra crispy. The Philly cheesesteak was incredible. The soft bun was lightly toasted with plenty of cheese. The fried okra was delicious especially with the sauce. Anything with that Cajun horseradish is great honestly. It's only so many days in a row that you can eat grilled pork chops and hot dogs (4th of July 2018) before you need something different. Today I had to break from that menu and decided to check out Chubbfathers. I decided to go with the Deluxe burger and Tots. The burger was well put together with all the veggies and the meat was well seasoned and cooked the way I like it. The tots on the other hand were a little salty. Next time I will request no salt. The cashier was very welcoming and inquired about my day and the holiday. She talked with me while I waited for my food. A+ customer service. This place was so good that my work crew wanted to come back on back to back nights and get the exact same thing. I obliged because I thought it was pretty good myself, but this time I went with the shrimp poboy. Really good and so big I couldn't finish the last bite or two. Me and my husband went here for lunch today and really liked the family owed restaurant vibe. It shows that iwners take great pride in their food. We asked for suggestions since it was our first time and both suggestions that they gave were great. We had the zydeco burger and beef Philly sandwich with fries and tater tots and we also tried the wings. All items were very good meat was well seasoned, burger was juicy, wings were saucy and not over fried which is a plus for me. Philly sandwich was delicious also. Fries and tots were crispy and well seasoned. Over all good experience. Great place to have a quick lunch or dinner without skipping out on the quality of food.
