Worth the wait and drive from San Diego. Premium Wagyu cuts and sushi. Such a neat concept Josh Hong and Thong (in training) were great! They grill the meats for you and make small talk to make it a good dining experience. The self service area was kinda tight but the automated rice and miso soup dispenser and set up was cool. We went here on a Thursday night. When we checked in, the wait would've been almost one hour. Luckily the host was there and asked us if we were okay with patio seating. We immediately said yes and were seated right away. This is our third Chubby Cattle location, and so far it's the best location. Maybe I'm being biased because we love outdoor seating. Been a member since this place opened and the food and service is still EXCELLENT. I brought a group with me this time in which 4 out of 6 people were new to the experience and they had a great time. The quality of the meats is still the star of the show as I let the. Try all the meats the silver tier had to offer along with some sushi and carpaccio options. Jason was very attentive and prompt. Fun and unique KBBQ experience! Been wanting to try out Chubby Cattle for a while now and finally got to last night with some friends. The place looks so cool inside! There's some arcade games outside to play while waiting and also free water/hot green tea. The host was very nice and helpful explaining how the menu works and their dry aging process. Seriously there's so many things to look at inside the restaurant! Once we got seated our server Emily walked us through the menu and gave tips/tricks for how to order food on the touchscreen. She was awesome, always there to help with the cooking if we needed and even got us some soft serve ice cream for dessert. Thanks Emily!! They're known for their specialty Wagyu cuts of beef, so we definitely tried quite a few. We got the Wagyu brisket, top blade, steak, tongue, and a few other cuts. Their self serve bar with fruits, veggies, soups, and sauces was awesome! Try their Wagyu brisket curry, so good. You can add some mix-ins to your sauces like garlic, green onion, cilantro, etc. We were nice and full by the time we finished. You get 70 minutes to order food and 90 to finish eating. They need the time limit as the place is pretty busy during dinner hours especially. There's some self serve soft serve ice cream and a fridge of cakes for dessert, or fresh fruit if you'd like something a bit more healthy. I'll be back to experience more of their menus, and I definitely want to try their other concepts. I had a wonderful time at Chubby Cattle in Irvine. I have been to the rowland location before and am glad they opened one closer to me. I visited on a tues evening and ended up waiting a little over an hour The interior is beautifully decorated, and the ordering process is super easy on the screen. The service was a highlight of our night. Our server Peter P was fantastic. Super friendly and knowledgeable and spent time chatting with us and expertly cooked our meat! The meat comes out pretty fast. The quality is delicious and very fresh. The sushi service is a bit slower. The handrolls are good, though the seaweed isnt super crispy by the time it gets to you There's a milk tea selection. The Samurai milk tea is the winner. I would skip the Jasmine, as it tastes a bit artificial and kind of like melon If u plan to go again, i would recommend getting the $58 membership tier. It's a great value because it effectively pays for itself once you factor in the birthday meal and the extra free meal included! And u get a discount for you and your guest each visit. First time at Chubby Cattle and wow! The place is beautiful, very high-tech, and modern. That said, it can feel a bit overwhelming and cramped with everything going on. My only wish is that the walkways were a little wider. There were a few moments where I felt like I was about to smother someone just trying to squeeze by--especially when everyone was lining up for rice while others were trying to get to the self-service bar. Since it was my first visit, I definitely fell into the classic AYCE beginner's trap: filling up at the self-serve bar before the main event. Everything just looked too good to pass up--the wagyu burgers, sweet potatoes, cheese corn, and the rice bowl station with all the different toppings...the list goes on. Thankfully, the day we went, the rice station was down, so they were making rice in the back. That probably saved me from getting full too early! We had family visiting from out of town, so we decided to splurge on the Diamond tier ($88 per person), which comes with an additional selection of five specialty dishes, and you can order two per person. The meal has a 90-minute time limit, so we tried to order as much as we could early on...especially after our first round, which took quite a while to arrive. A good gauge is that it took so long that we honestly forgot what we had ordered. Our server, Armin, was incredibly kind and accommodating and even offered to cook the meat for us. Unfortunately, he was juggling quite a few tables, and we didn't want to take up more time, so we ended up cooking everything ourselves. Did we burn some meat? Maybe. But honestly, that was the cost for protecting my hand from being burned by the large flames when all the fat started dripping! Out of everything we tried, our family favorites were the sukiyaki, the lean cuts, the beef tongue, and the short ribs. The meat quality is definitely excellent and worth experiencing. That said, after a while, the flavors start to taste the same. Overall, it was a great experience with an impressive variety of options. I'm glad we tried it, but next time I'd probably skip the Diamond tier and go the savvy route with the Silver tier if I'm craving wagyu again. read more

Finally had a chance to visit a Chubby Cattle and the food didn't disappoint. Came by during the lunch hour and the wait wasn't too bad, but I heard that weekends are another story. The interior is clean and high tech with all ordering by the tablet / tv screen attached to the table. We got the silver package, and although they recommend one of the higher tier for the wagyu experience, I have to say that the silver package is not one to overlook either, if you're looking to save some money. The meat is tender fresh, add juicy. There are a lot of other side dishes you can order, and we ordered a Tom Yum and the kimchi soup. Steam egg is one that you should not forget. Price is on the higher end, with membership for Silver at still $50 per person. Our server hunt her was very helpful and assisting us with navigating the menu and other items to grab at the buffet. Drinks are included and include several versions of milk tea, icee, and a fountain drink dispenser. If you can't wait for the food to cook, you can help yourself to a Wagyu burger and another fresh items. Is a membership worth it? It's up to you depending on how often you'll visit one of their restaurants. If you go more than a few times, it should pay for itself. Will return! read more

Like many Irvinians, we all wondered what would happen to the Tokyo Table that used to inhabit this building. When Chubby Cattle announced that they were coming, we now wondered HOW they were going to fit that concept inside that tiny building? Especially if you've been to their Rowland Heights STADIUM of a location. But they did it; albeit it a little cramped, but it all works. Let's start with the food. Irvine has some exclusives that I haven't seen at other locations, so you should definitely hit those up if you haven't. (That Mentaiko was amazing) All the A5 was good (was recommended the strip and short rib), the brisket, beef belly, and tongue all amazing. Their self-serve has all the veggies and a few other options including an amazingly flaky Portuguese egg tart, and waygu burger should that sound good to you. Then same sauce bar you see in all their concepts, as well as the rice bowls, a soda machine (broken when I was there), and milk teas/teas. A bit cramped in there when crowded, but its navigable. The absolute shocker for me was the Chawamushi (steamed eggs). Surprisingly smooth and delicious. However, I wouldn't order the Shumai again. (Not your typical Shumai, or what I expected.) Secondly the service. Shout out to Josh and the amazing rapport he builds while serving; had some great conversations with him. He was attentive and absolutely working his a** off with his entire section. WOW, he was jumping back and forth taking care of EVERYONE! So thanks again Josh for a great experience. On top of that the entire team was pretty amazing, and everything was prompt and efficient. All the runners were great and super nice. Front of house was very welcoming. My only gripe is I purchased the Chubby Plus membership prior to arriving at the restaurant because I thought you needed it to get the discount for that dinner. I didn't realize that to get the free A5 dish, you have to purchase in-house. A little disappointed in that... though that isn't an Irvine exclusive issue, just so happened to be while dining here. Very one dimensional. Lots of meat. It wouldn't have hurt them to add some vegetables as alternatives? Some of the beef pieces were good, though. But I like variety in restaurants, not being just one dimensional. It's why I ordered a couple of the sushi dishes (the salmon hand roll wasn't great). The truffle fries were excellent though. I wished they had a little more on the plate. The rice dispenser was, I think, the most impressive part of the whole operation in the back. I'm not crazy about the way they set up the buffet in the back of the restaurant though. You're having to wade through both other restaurant patrons AND restaurant employees and the hallways are rather narrow. There's no flow to any of it. It's definitely a high potential safety hazard as some people are carrying hot food items that can spill if you bump into them. It's also not all that efficient to have a bunch of bowls and sauce flights available but not actual plates. I didn't get to use a plate until the END of my meal, which isn't ideal. The fruit platter and the ice cream get top marks though. All in all, I came away rather unimpressed. All flash, no real substance. read more

As I grow older, I have less and less appreciation for AYCE. I just don't have the desire to stuff myself and would rather take any leftovers home for another meal later. With all that said, Chubby Cattle is doing AYCE right. By the way, if you don't know, there is a Silver tier tucked away at the very bottom or back of the menu. Kind of feels like they're shaming you for wanting to spend less, hahaha. So we got the shameful peasant silver tier ($58, as of Jan 2026). You may think that's quite high for the lowest tier, but trust me, they certainly make it worth it. Not only do you get a nice variety of meat options to choose from... there's also sushi/sashimi options (highly recommend the yellowtail carpaccio!). AND there's a huge self-serve bar with a bunch of vegetable sides, wagyu burgers, a rice bowl station, milk teas and other drinks, desserts, and more. Like seriously, so many different foods to choose from. Steamed eggs, dumplings, chicken karaage...the list goes on. The real kicker was that ALL this food was good quality. Typically, I would not expect sushi from an AYCE BBQ spot to even be edible, but this rivals some other sushi joints. The wagyu burgers are a must try. The milk teas were delicious. They really made sure that you're getting quality food at every step. The only thing I would avoid are the A3 cube meats - they were just overly fatty. I forgot to mention the decor! Chubby Cattle went for a Japanese arcade aesthetic, which was pretty cool and different. They even have some video game machines in front to play some classic arcade games while you wait. In my honest opinion, only the BEEF tongue platter was the best. The raw fish thankfully did not make me sick but it was strange...it had a slimy consistency and texture. Loved how they tried to be creative with the hand rolls but it was difficult to consume due to the insides constantly falling out. I appreciate the variety of veggies and side dishes included. Kind of disappointed in the sauce options but I understand the CHUBBY SRIRACHA is where it's at. Ice cream is soft served... very soft served. Either vanilla or chocolate or mixed. Loved the rolls and matcha crepe cakes :) Loved the offerings of grape and strawberry slushies. The milk teas were WEAK af. I hate how they only have PEPSI products :( SERVICE: I was explaining loudly and aggressively because folks in my party weren't exactly listening during the explanation (it was our first time) so much so I guess the server tried to keep his distance. AYCE-style Waygu restaurants have become much prevalent in Southern California, thanks in part to the Chubby Group, a technology-enabled food and beverage group that owns various restaurant types across the country. They all center around the ability to provide Waygu grade beef at scale, at a price that consumers are willing to pay. One would think this model would provide a slightly inferior product...have yet to find this to be the case. Other restaurants in this space will need to up their game. We came before opening at noon, and it was important to put our names on the waitlist immediately. There is complementary water and hot tea available while waiting, along with a couple of sit-down video games to play. One has to choose the AYCE experience upfront for the whole party, and our party of four went with the lowest: Silver Plan ($58). Quite expensive for lunch, but I felt it was absolutely worth it. The service here is excellent (we found this to be the case at the other Chubbys as well). Tae was our server, and he guided us throughout the whole process. He knew we had chosen the Silver plan, so went over the pricing and what was included. Everything is done/controlled by a touchscreen at the table, and the proper menu had been loaded so we could only order things that we were allowed to. For our party of 4, we could order up to 10 items at a time. After each, there is a 5 (maybe 6/7?) minute 'breathing' period before you can order again. The food came out quickly, and there are servers constantly looking for used dishes to clear to TRY to provide adequate tablespace (it was a constant challenge). The grills are changed out frequently as well. Tae was looking out for us: if it seemed like we were getting behind in cooking because we were too busy eating, he would try to turn the meat itself. The amount of food on a plate is not consistent: steaks are offered which are probably 4 times more food than the thin marinated beef plates. We did order (precooked) squid and shrimp...OK, but skippable. At the table, there are choices of two sauces, and Himalayan salt. There is a self service station (all inclusive at all tiers) area that contains: -- beverages including a Pepsi Spire machine, 4 different types of lemonade, and even a frozen slushee machine. -- sauce station -- cold bar with various banchans (things like kimchi, daikan, pickled ginger, useful to cut the richness of the meat), some fruits (lychee, pineapple), and grilling vegetables (mushrooms). The kimchi was OK. -- miso soup, yellow beef curry, and white rice station (the dispensing of the rice is cutting edge technology) -- desert station with really good soft serve ice cream. There were small tarts as well. All of this is in a small area, which is a problem since you will be waiting or bumping. Made me not want to go up there too often. For the large steak pieces. It's the cheaper cuts of beef, but because it was Waygu served at medium, it was very, very good, especially coated with a bit of salt. The marinated meat cooked really quickly so needed to distribute that fast. But the best part for me was the raw fish offered (nigiri, hand rolls, rolls, and crudo styles). The focus is on salmon and yellowtail. It's clear that they won't offer fish varieties that don't meet certain standards...so tuna was not existent. The salmon was good...the hamachi was outstanding...truly buttery. I had multiple (maybe 6 or 7?) plates of the hamachi carpaccio (really crudo) and I couldn't get enough before I ran out of time. I could control how much rice I ate with each bite, which is a big plus for me. The gas grill in the center of the table uses downward draft ventilation, and there was no smoke (or smell) anywhere (so actually go for lunch and go back to work if taking a 2 hour lunch is allowed). There is a strict 90 minute dining period, with last call at the 70 minute mark. Both are count down timers on the touchscreen. This time, I purchased the lower tier loyalty plan (Chubby Club One) for $28/year, which provides two things: reducing the price for the two of us by $8 each, and providing a birthday free meal (up to $55) for the primary holder. It is only usable at Chubby BBQ restaurants. The higher tier plan (Chubby Club Plus for $58/year) offers more value, including being able to use at ANY Chubby Group restaurant. By the time we left two hours later, there was a big waiting list with hungry diners milling around. It's clear that upper management is paying close attention to feedback and constantly making changes/adjustments. Will definitely be back to more of their restaurants in the future. read more

This place has been name dropped plenty of times so I'm glad I got to try it! My friends and I decided to do the Diamond Experience ($88/pp). There is a selection of 5 special meats/dishes where you're able to do 2 of them per person. There was definitely so many to choose from that I honestly started to forget which one was which. We had 75 minutes for ordering -- waiting 5 mins between each order -- and 90 minutes to complete our meal. The meats were delicious, tender, flavorful, and honestly melts in your mouth. I was glad to try so many different meats I wouldn't usually get elsewhere! The problem areas were.... Our salmon nigiri was slightly fishy, but no issues afterwards so many just not a great piece? The miso soup tasted like hot water with some greens, no miso paste seen. The wait time was also unpredictable where we knew we'd wait 2-3 hours from calling ahead of time so we decided to send a friend close by to check in. We received 2 calls during that time that a table was ready and if we were able to get there on time. Since it was too last minute both times, we decided to drive up and wait but it ended up being another hour before we actually got seated. And lastly our grill.. Once we got our grill changed, it caused the temperature to take forever to get to high where multiple servers checked and told us it would take a minute. We left a piece of meat on there for a couple minutes to show the next server how it hasn't heated up yet. Gratefully, he decided to cook for us and discovered it was due to the fats and oils mixing with the fire for it to start heating up. Thankfully that was towards the end of our meal, but I wish we knew the reason sooner so we could eat without waiting too long until we got too full. We recently dined at Chubby Cattle and overall had a great experience. The meat quality was excellent, and you can really tell they take pride in their selection. One thing that sets this location apart from others is that they offer Australian dry-aged beef, which they explained is different from their other locations. The dry-aged options were fantastic -- rich, tender, and full of flavor. Definitely worth trying if you're into high-quality cuts. I also loved that they offer sashimi and sushi in addition to BBQ. It's a nice bonus and gives you more variety compared to typical spots. We did have to wait about three hours, which was definitely long. However, our server Johnny truly made it worthwhile. He was incredibly patient with us, gave great recommendations on which meats to order, and was very attentive throughout the entire meal. Compared to Rowland Heights, the Irvine location feels like a much lower-tier experience. When you walk in, they have Wagyu meat on display, but the meat did not look fresh and honestly looked old. At the Rowland Heights location, the display looks much more decorative, clean, and appealing. The meat quality in Irvine also felt lower and did not taste as fresh. The atmosphere was another letdown. Rowland Heights feels more upscale and classy, while the Irvine location feels more like a club than a nice dining experience. The layout also feels cramped, especially when you have to walk around to get the sides. It does not feel comfortable or spacious, which makes the whole experience less enjoyable. Overall, the Irvine location does not compare to Rowland Heights. The food quality, atmosphere, and layout all felt below expectations. I would not choose the Irvine location again if Rowland Heights is an option. read more

We came here for the first time and this place beat all our expectations out of the water. We had Jhony and he was the best. We got the platinum and got the membership. The membership is worth it if you plan on coming to this location or the sister locations a few times so it seem to pay for itself and it's on sale right now. We order a bit of everything and it was fantastic. In the back, there are condiments, sides, fruits, rice, soups, curry, drinks, and ice cream. The service was great, and Jhony was amazing. The meats were definitely melt in your mouth, sushi was ok but not the best, the sides were water but had kimchi so that was good. The drink choices were impressive since it wasn't just basic soda options. The back buffet was eye opening and I attacked everything. The only downside I think is the time limit. I get that it's busy and they give you only I believe 70 minutes but it's bbq so it takes time. He gave great recommendations and I was glad he had tried the entire menu to give us his honest opinion of each item. I appreciated that the menu had a large variety of different items depending on the tier you choose. Desserts and drinks were included. I love that they have hot pot and sushi here beside meats. All the meats we tried were pretty good. Besides the meats, I enjoyed their eel and yellowtail sushi. I also enjoyed the sukiyaki hot pot and lobster dumplings as well. But honestly there wasn't much we didn't like. For dessert they even had cakes, soft serve, eggtarts, and fruit. Like I mentioned, service by Jonathon was great. I came to Chubby Cattle expecting the BBQ to be the highlight but the sushi ended up standing out the most for me. The service was very attentive and good came out fast. The otoro was fresh and buttery and the uni toro hand roll was easily my favorite. The sukiyaki was rich and flavorful and also very tasty. Chubby Cattle!!!!! Is the most amazing Japanese BBQ we have ever experienced and eaten! We got there, I checked us in at 1:15pm and got a table at 1:55pm! (PURE LUCK) the normal wait time is anywhere from 1-3 hours! So plan accordingly. Don't expect this gem to be a walk on in and sit down right away kind of place because it isn't. Everything is delicious! We got their membership $58 (there's a promo won't last long FYI) We got their gold package. Paid $85. Everything is ordered on the screen: meats, soups, food related. Drinks, sides, and other snacks including desserts are all in the back (come serve yourself) We got Alex Nguyen as our server! He was so amazing cooked our food for us. Super attentive. Always around and checking in on us. The ambiance is loud and fun. I would say like a Japanese food market. Not like a quiet dine in place. So don't expect that. So excited when Chubby Cattle BBQ opened last December here in Irvine. Located in a prime location in Diamond Jamboree among many Asian restaurants and cuisines including Haidilao, Chubby Cattle has instantly taken one of the top places to eat in the plaza. The wait time can be really long so be ready for that, fingers crossed it will die down over time. They have 4 different menus as well as a membership you could buy annually to get discounted pricing at all of the Chubby restaurants. Once we started dining, I was honestly left impressed across the board. From the moment we sat down, the quality was obvious. The meat was extremely fresh -- you could see it in the color and marbling, and taste it once it hit the grill. Nothing felt frozen, dry, or pre-cut too far in advance like some spots. This location is known for their special cut dry aged Wagyu so ensure to try that cut out. Every cut we ordered cooked beautifully. The beef was tender and juicy, and even the thinner slices didn't fall apart or overcook instantly. You really don't need to drown anything in sauce because the meat itself had great flavor. That's usually my biggest test for BBQ and Chubby Cattle passed easily. Service was solid the whole time. Our server Stephen checked in regularly, swapped grills when needed, and kept things moving without rushing us. The pacing felt right -- we never waited too long for food, but also didn't feel like they were trying to flip tables. The sides were fresh and there were many different food choices to order from besides meat such as sushi, udon, veggies, curry, etc., Being newly opened, overall restaurant was clean and comfortable. It felt more elevated than your average AYCE spot, but still fun and relaxed. If you care about meat quality and freshness, this place is worth it. Definitely one of the better BBQ experiences I've had, and I'd come back without hesitation. Lived up to the hype! read more

Had an amazing experience at Chubby Cattle BBQ Irvine! Our waiter Josh was outstanding from start to finish. He took the time to explain which menu items were exclusive to the Irvine location, kept our drinks constantly topped off, and proactively swapped our grill without us ever needing to ask. Even though the restaurant was full, they accommodated our party in the VIP room, which made the night feel extra special. We ordered the Platinum menu, and Josh cooked the A5 wagyu dishes to perfection. He even took over grilling throughout dinner so everyone could enjoy the meat fresh off the grill without having to worry about cooking it ourselves. Top-tier service and an awesome dining experience--Josh truly went above and beyond. Highly recommend asking for him if you visit! read more

Loved getting to try this place out! The way the meat is cooked is a little different than usual places I've been to, which you might notice when seeing how everything seems to light on fire (or I was just having a hard time cooking that day)- but basically it was explained to us that the cooking part isn't the usual cast iron that most kbbq places have, and you can taste the difference in how the meat chars. Personally, I don't enjoy charred meat a whole lot, but my friend LOVED the way it tasted, so it's all just personal preference. The meat quality is fantastic, you had the option to make a sauce bowl/other sauce at the table, but you could honestly use none of it and everything would taste amazing. The meats come premarinated, but you also have the option to have it come without. The milk tea here is actually pretty good, though a little sweet. Fun vibe and decor, great to go at lunch with less people, fun to go with a group. Joseph was our server and helped us out a LOT!!! Big shout out to him for running the tables like crazy, I saw how much he was interacting with and helping other people too, and it was awesome.
