This place blew up on social media with all the food influencers raving about it so of course we were so excited to check it out. The concept is definitely innovative. You "grocery shop" as you go in carts assigned to your table. There are fresh seafood areas, meat areas, veggie areas....all the things. However, when executed it just felt more of a chore than anything. The carts aren't easy to push around when busy, especially if you're seated really far from the main area. At times, looking at all the options felt overwhelming that we ended up just ordering from the table. The soup base is very Szechuan forward so keep that in mind. There are bites we loved and some we could live without. Overall, this place definitely has a cool concept but not our favorite in the chubby chain. read more

As a Chubby Club Plus member ($58/year discounts at all locations), the experience at Chubby Mart AYCE was so overwhelming and unsatisfactory; I had to leave this review. Visited today, Friday, June 12. Group of 4 arrived at 5:45PM, got seated at 5:53PM, hardly a wait. The hostesses at the front were great. We opted for the upgrade, an extra $20/person to get lobster/crab/razor clams (1/person and they were out of razor clams) and unlimited wagyu cuts. Place is warm, no A/C, no airflow. We were seated at a half booth/ bench situation; like another reviewer, the bench is so weird, uncomfortable and topples easily. Napkins and plates were at the buffet line, not at the table. Utensils were just 2 ladles, chopsticks, and 1 tongs. Table C8. Our server had a thick Chinese accent, and she was talking so fast we couldn't understand whatever she was rapping. She seemed annoyed with the questions and us asking for ice. (They don't naturally put ice in the water or provide ice...) She placed the orders for lobster and crab, and didn't give recommendations for broths, so we ended up with Beef Bone Broth (had goji berries and jujubes) and Mala Shacha Brisket Broth. For the broths, you HAD to get 2 broths and it's $5/person (unless you're a member it's free for you +1). You don't have the option to say no. Our server checked up on us often enough, but not very personable. She legitimately rolled her eyes at my party when they tipped 18%. Anyway, broth came and then the $20/person upgrade for lobster and crab came. It was only HALF a lobster or HALF a crab per person, not a whole. but HALF. Nowhere on the "menu" did it say HALF, if we knew it was HALF we wouldn't have upgraded. How misleading for it to only be HALF a crustacean per person for $20 more. They were both topped with a garlic oil and green onions. We had to ask for crab crackers for the crabs. There was only 2 additional "wagyu" cuts for the $20 upcharge, A5 Marble and A5 Lean cut. Not worth it, just grab their individually plated sliced meats near the entrance is good already; meats were categorized as Chinese BBQ meats and hot pot meats, but you could cook them either or. These were refilled decently, but a long walk from our table. Sauce bar was pretty nice, very extensive, LOTS of choices (even Lao Gan Ma). Cooked Buffet line had braised pork sauce, rice portioning machine, chicken nuggets, chicken tenders, chicken wings, sesame balls, dry wagyu sliders, dry dim sum, all sorts of skewers, wagyu fried rice, sauteed asparagus, chewy squid skewers, spicy mayo mussels, garlic butter vermicelli mussels, sashimi, and a great sushi bar. Everything was SLOW to refill except the sashimi and sushi bar. Peking duck pretty much nonexistent, my table only snagged 1 peking duck wrap. Fortunately, their hot pot ingredients had good selections. Vermicelli, udon, ramen, assorted mushrooms and veggies, tofu, beef balls, other balls. Their seafood selection was pretty good too, no upgrade needed! Fresh squid, fresh baby cuttlefish, deveined shrimp, fish, live mussels, manila clams, and crabs. Fresh squid was very good and tender. Dessert bar was pretty mediocre. Cut oranges and cherries were swimming in water, grapes were soft and little, cantaloupe and honeydew were cut super tiny, canned pineapple and peach slices. They also had slices of mille cake, other mousses, roll cake, and egg tarts. What food we had was pretty ok. Meats were tender and filling. Sushi and sashimi were good. Fresh seafood was good too. Not a fan of their broths. We mostly bbq'd. Drinks were canned and bottled, they give you a pitcher of room temperature water (but it was warm in the facility). Coke, Diet Coke, and Sprite, assorted Calpicos, teas, Vitasoy, super Chinese drinks, and fresh pressed Tangerine juice. Fresh teas and juices were hardly refilled. All you can drink warm... Pretty sure they'll opt for a fountain machine soon, just like Chubby Cattle. Cheaper Monday - Thursday Friday - Sunday AYCE All Day $49.99 member +1 ($59.99 non-member) Soup base - Free for member +1 ($5/non-member) even though it clearly said, "SOUP BASE INCLUDED" $20 upcharge/person for HALF a seasonal seafood and unlimited 2 cuts of wagyu Gratuity based on subtotal before any discounts. Lowest gratuity starts at 18%. Table of 5 or more, gratuity is automatic. 90 minutes to "dine," timer starts as soon as you walk to your table. We were kicked out at 7:25PM, check-in time was 5:46PM but was seated at 5:53PM, and didn't even get the broth order in till 6PM. The servers that kicked us out even said they let us stay an extra 20 mins? And were gracious enough to let us take our drinks out as a courtesy because they needed the table for a party of 14. Overall, would absolutely NOT RECOMMEND this Chubby brand. We enjoyed Chubby Cattle, and Chubby Mart was another interesting and overall pleasant experience. Reservations weren't available this weekend, so we lined up around 11:40am before opening. They were efficient and got everyone seated quickly. Our server, Jun Z, explained everything clearly and was super sweet and attentive. The vibe is nice and casual, with medium noise and chill remix/house music playing. Restrooms have multiple stalls and are so far kept very clean. You order some things from an iPad at the table like appetizers, baos, cooked meat skewers, and drinks (beer, soju, fruit teas, green juice). For appetizers, we liked the A5 wagyu skewers and the wagyu pancake. The uni wagyu bao and wagyu finger skewers were a bit underwhelming. Both the lobster and beef bone broths were rich and smooth, but I preferred the bone broth. You get a small cart to push around, and seafood and wagyu are priced by the pound. Other things are priced by the shape of their plates. It can get a little chaotic if going in a group. The wagyu cuts were incredibly fresh and well-marbled. Seafood has a 20% prep fee (steamed or grilled); our steamed lobster was tender and well seasoned. Hotpot veggie options were pretty limited. I enjoyed the refreshing smashed grape duck sh*t tea. Dessert options were minimal and didn't really stand out to me. Our total came out to around $350 for five people (before membership and discounts), and I ended up getting the premium membership. As a fan of the Chubby group, I was excited to try Chubby Mart and my sweet boyfriend supported my curiosity. On the Saturday night we came, the wait for 2 people was estimated between 90-110 minutes but it was actually ready in 80 minutes. That worked out for us because it gave us time to digest our previous meal and wander around the area. Upon entering the restaurant, it was like a futurist + arcade vibes. The hostess gave us a tour of the restaurant when we entered but it was still sensory overload. It carries their well known wagyu products with the combination of their hot pot, bbq, and skewer concepts. However unlike a few of their other locations, this is not AYCE. Paying by the item can get a bit pricey for those with heavier appetites. We were really lucky to sit in Philix' section. Knowing it was our first time here to Chubby Mart, Philix gave us a good overview of how to order with the tablet, the popular items, and was attentive to get us crab crackers and napkins, and checked on us sufficiently throughout the night. His service was above and beyond and he had a really positive energy where I can tell he was more than happy to help us and wanted us to have a good experience. Also, based on the membership perks Philix explained to me, it convinced me to renew my Chubby Club membership and get the Chubby Club PLUS so I can enjoy the membership perks. It saved us $50+ on this meal alone. For our 2 broths, my boyfriend picked the Lobster Broth and I picked the Tomato Soup Base. We had 2 Wagyu plates, Short Ribs, Wagyu Skewers, Grilled Oysters, Uni, Blue Crab, Clams, Tofu Skin, and their Big Veggie Box. We also got a Wagyu Gift Box to take home with the membership. This would have been ~$140 without the membership, and only $93.72 after tax with the discount. The meal was enjoyable and I definitely feel like you're paying more for the experience. If you like hot pot, I think Mikiya is their better concept, and if you like bbq then go to Chubby Cattle and enjoy the all you can eat. This concept is definitely better for those with lighter appetites. I had a lot of fun. This is the type of place where I would want to take my friends to impress them if they're visiting SoCal. I already want to take my niece here so she can have the experience herself. But the food servers need to have more training! Meat section: no one was in line so I was looking to see what to get. Then there started to form a line. One food servers there. A couple walked in from the exit side then was serviced by the server. Another server came in and then tell the lady in line to go ahead and ask me to go wait in line! I told him I was first but he didn't even listen to me. Then my friend went to wait in line to get meat, forgetting to bring our table number. He said he'll get it right away because our table was right next to that area. But coming back and the guy asks to wait in line again! I think they need to more lenient and not so rude! I've been a member for the Chubby Group for a couple years now and I have tried most of their restaurants. Chubby Mart is the newest addition with such a cool concept! It felt like eating out of hotpot restaurant from Cyberpunk 2077. Besides the cool aesthetic, the food variety and quality are on par for all my experiences at the Chubby group restaurants. On top of the delicious food, the service is always good. Our server Philix was especially amazing! I was not eligible for the birthday offer but did everything he can to give me a good experience! Technically 3.75 stars, generously rounded up because it's soft opening, so that means they're still working out kinks. Was it entertaining to roll around a cart to "shop" around for ingredients to cook at your table? Yes. Was it expensive? Also, yes. Probably would come for a special occasion instead of a regular weekday dinner out. Was the meat quality great? Yes. The drinks were all very delicious and freshly squeezed, too! Overall, we enjoyed our dining experience more than at Chubby Cattle. The hostesses are all very nice and explained the process as first-time diners very well, but here's the thing - the server explained the order/checking out system and it seems flawed. There are some things you can order from the iPad that goes directly into your bill, but since we grab all the plates ourselves, the server manually tallies up the total of the plates we grabbed at the end so there's bound to be human error forcing the customer to have to double check each line item when you ask for the bill. The restaurant wasn't too busy, so I'm not sure why a lot of the dishes that were offered at the sauce bar are also dirty, there was rice and old sauce on it which also is scary because if that's what's presented to customers - how clean is the food prep behind doors we won't know. read more

We got beef tongue, lobster, and top blade for our three protein dishes. The top blade was super yummy!! The beef tongue tasted a bit gamier than other beef tongues I've had. Really disappointing dining experience here for Father's Day. There is NO AC or ventilation throughout the entire facility which is so brutal when you're eating hot pot and KBBQ. The whole establishment was smoky and greasy. The prepared food section was really empty and not well stocked since there was so much people. The Peking duck line (only 1 time during our 1.5 hour meal here) was in the middle of the prepared food section too and standing next to the hot lamps was so overwhelming. The seats are also really tight - we got a small booth for 5 people and the two booths next to us were also overcrowded and had to sit in the aisles with a chair which made it so hard to get in and out. Chubby Mart definitely was not prepared to switch to the AYCE option. They need a bigger establishment with the air circulating since there is so much smoke from cooking and the skewers. The beverages in the fridge weren't even cold since people were grabbing them so quickly. Lots of unstocked items. We had a 12:00 PM reservation and opted for the Basic AYCE with the seafood upgrade, unlimited A5 wagyu, and the premium soup upgrade. Unfortunately, the experience did not justify the price. Our first round of upgraded meat didn't arrive until about 45 minutes after we were seated. We immediately placed another order, but had to ask our server multiple times whether all of our food had come out because we had only received two plates of the upgraded meat. We were eventually told it would be better to just place another order. With only about 20 minutes remaining, our third plate finally arrived. We were never informed that it was last call for food--instead, we were simply given the check. After we finished paying, our server reminded us that our 90-minute dining time was up, and shortly after, the host came over to let us know another party was waiting for our table. We completely understand and respect the 90-minute dining policy. However, when more than half of that time is spent waiting for the premium items we paid extra for, it leaves very little time to actually enjoy the meal. We ended up paying around $110 per person for the upgrades but spent much of the experience waiting on food. The quality of the meat was good, but the service and timing made the experience disappointing. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend paying for the upgraded menu unless the kitchen can consistently serve it in a timely manner. read more

Came here since chubby group sent out vouchers and decided to give it a shot. At first glance it didn't seem like a bad spot but once we got seated down we noticed the table had a combination of a hotpot and grill all in one which was nice to see. They unfortunately didn't offer a sukiyaki broth so we opted for options recommended by our waiter and the broths turned out to be quite flavorless, all they did was just improve the meat texture a bit. The meats offered honestly are cheap cuts of meat, no premium meat offerings either just whatever is put out for people to grab. A lot of the buffet food was cold and left sitting out for a while and it wasn't that great. The meat skewers and the little cheesecake bites at the dessert section were great but everything else was underwhelming. Customer service was good but I don't think I would come back. If I enjoyed the skewers here I'd might as well go to chubby skewers and pay the same price. read more

The restaurant was designed quite cool with the supermarket, bbq, and hotpot concept. It also offered skewers, baos, seafoods, desserts, and drinks. It is fascinating to have-it-all and we have also tried to have as much as possible. The skewers were perfectly grilled, the uni wagyu bao was flavorful, and the lamb/beef bone soup bases were very good. Maybe too much was going on, we got too excited to pick the foods from different sections then we couldn't remember which meats were for bbq or hotpot. Overall, I think it is a fun place filled with excitement. Dining wise, I still prefer Chubby Cattle & Mikiya where I get to enjoy the pure Wagyu. I visited Chubby Mart yesterday, and I think it might be one of my favorite Chubby Group restaurant concepts! Although I can appreciate the value that many of their AYCE concepts offer, I tend to prefer a la carte dining more, as I can just pick and choose what looks appealing to me without feeling pressured to eat more than I would otherwise. Chubby Mart hits all of the marks for me personally by combining a la carte dining with elements of their other concepts -- hot pot, skewers, and tabletop grilling. My boyfriend and I definitely ordered way too much, but every bite was memorable. We ordered the wagyu tallow broth, the shacha brisket soup, two plates of various cuts of wagyu, a wagyu and uni steamed bun, razor clams, a steamed dungeness crab, a grilled Boston lobster, several skewers, a small plate of bafun uni, and various veggies. Everything was so good, but if we had to pick the standouts, it would probably be the razor clams (juicy, tender, slightly chewy, and very garlicky) pork and enoki mushroom skewers (perfectly grilled and even the mushrooms were succulent), and the grilled lobster (halved and served with some sort of garlicky, green oniony sauce). Also have to give extra kudos to the fact that there's a sauce bar (I love a sauce bar, and this one's LOADED). I would like to give recognition to the great customer service we received. Sophie (or Sophia?) was our host, and she gave a very enthusiastic tour of the restaurant and a great, easy to understand explanation of how various menu items can be ordered. We definitely appreciated the tour and explanation, since this restaurant's concept can be slightly overwhelming if you're not sure where to start. She also checked up on us whenever she happened to be passing by our table, which I felt went beyond what typical host staff's duties are -- much of the time, you don't really see or interact with the host after you've already been seated. Jayden was our main server, and he also provided awesome service. Although Chubby Mart was pretty busy, he always checked in periodically to refill water and our hot pot broths, and was never too difficult to locate. When we asked if we could pack up our food at the end of the meal (we ordered way too much, but hard not to when surrounded by all these amazing options), he even helpfully suggested that we take our hot pot broths with us. And he even helped us ladle the broth into the containers and pack away our other food. Aside from Sophie and Jayden, the rest of the staff who were positioned at the various counters had such friendly and welcoming service, too. We appreciated that they took time to re-explain the ordering process to us and give us their recommendations! Definitely recommend Chubby Mart to those who are looking to try something new! I'll be honest I'm still pretty new to hot pot and this is my first Chubby restaurant in their empire so lots of new experiences in one! First lots of love to all the staff especially our server, Serene. Everyone was super helpful and happily answered every question. Serene let us know they soft opened earlier in the month, but fully opened on the 8th so they're still working on any bumps/looking for feedback. Advice to anyone looking to go: either get there early and be part of the round of tickets they give for seating at 4:30 or be prepared for a long wait. I think we put our name on the waiting list at 5:10 and we were 26th in line. Took us over two hours to get seated so we got boba nearby until we were closer to the top of the waiting list. They'll text when your table is ready. Next be prepared for sort of an overwhelming initial experience: there's multiple grocery stations for hotpot meat, grilled meat, steamed seafood, etc. You'll get a walkthrough before being seated, but it's still a lot to take in. Also be careful with your cart when going on and off the carpet by the seafood station. We didn't drop anything, but some people were close to! Sensory overload aside, it does make the experience more fun. I don't eat beef so can't firsthand comment on it, but my friends did enjoy the beef tongue and the leaner cuts for the soup. They have various seafood options and some lamb and pork options. The grilled meat section had a chicken option. The enoki and pork skewers were great and so were the lamb slices I got. For broths we selected a lamb one and I believe a passionfruit one (or maybe I'm blanking). The lamb one was pretty light in flavor meanwhile our other broth was POWERFUL. We also got a lobster that they steamed and added butter and garlic to. Also recommend doing this! Pricing wise, it's a restaurant first and foremost so expect some mark-up compared to an actual grocery store. If you have that special membership, it'll help you out. It's sort of all over the place on what seems like "deal", what's standard, and what's obviously overpriced (the Napa cabbage and enoki mushrooms were surprisingly more money than I thought they'd be lol). All in all, I'd come back once the initial hype wears down a bit. It's a fun experience and there's a dizzying amount of options to try that I think the novelty would last for awhile. My biggest tip is to go with people you like (you'll be waiting for awhile and the process of "shopping" and eating add up!) and in a group of at least 3 (5 ideally) so everyone can try a bunch of things. read more

Finally tried this place. It's part of the Chubby restaurant chains. Service was good. The food was not bad. Maybe next time I'll try it with the bbq only. And not both the hot pot and bbq together. Maybe it was a little bit overwhelming. Just speaking on our party's behalf. It might not be overwhelming for others. As we got full pretty quick. Also thought it was bigger on the inside from videos. But it's a decent size on the inside. The skewers were a little warm. So we had to heat them up at the grill on our table. Overall it was good, I'd give this place another try, but just the Bbq portion only. read more

Everything was good/okay. My family enjoyed the crab and sliders specifically. I got full and flavor fatigued quick so I didn't get to enjoy or eat too much. The salmon sashimi was not very fresh which was unfortunate because I was most excited about that. I am a member so I did get a discount (we went on a weekend) but I think it would be much more worth it to go on a weekday to save even more money. read more

Wait time was decent for this restaurant. Staff were friendly and met our needs. The decor and theme was great. The food was good. Wish they had flavored meat like bulgogi or galbi. The main issue in my opinion was the price. For our group it came out to more than $100 per person if upgrading to the hotpot meal. There are a lot of other restaurants where the food is much better for a lower price. Definitely try this place out. But for me, I don't think I'll be coming back. read more
