Went on a weeknight with my husband & the place was packed - a good sign. We were seated immediately & our friendly server took our drink order promptly. I ordered the smoked prime rib salad while my husband got the "camburger" with Swiss cheese which came with a side of fries. Our food came out within 10 minutes & our server checked on us several times during our meal. My husband's cheeseburger was very good as were the fries (I sampled both). My salad was delicious with fresh ingredients, delicious smoked meat & house made blue cheese dressing. The atmosphere in this restaurant is loud & you definitely know you're in a bar. read more

Great place to eat. We love the atmosphere and the staff. On first visit we had Megan and the second night we had Hannah. We never had to wait for anything, they were always right on the money with the service. They were AWESOME. The food was really good and they had great portions. Recently in Elkhart for a client dinner, we tried Chubby Trout and had a fantastic experience. The hostesses were welcoming and friendly and seated us promptly. Our server, Tanner orchestrated a wonderful experience for us. He was attentive, knowledgeable and efficient in meeting all of our needs. I most appreciated that he managed timing well so that the meal flowed seamlessly between appetizer, entree and dessert courses- this allowed us to have a great dining experience, but also to have the time and balance to talk through the business discussions necessary. I had gotten their fish tacos... they were delicious! The fish was cooked perfectly and the bean and corn salsa that was on it was super tasty. It came with wasabi mayo on the side that had a kick that was a bit strong for me but it was nice to have the option to add a sauce onto the tacos. I also got their pub fries which were also amazing. Another thing I want to mention is that I got take out but I would say that their service was remarkable because they called me the next day to make sure that my food was enjoyable... Going into an eatery for the first time always brings with it a certain amount of uncertainty. The atmosphere that is presented to you when you enter can do a lot to remove some of that doubt. Although the Chubby Trout had been recommended to us, entering this outstanding food joint was one of the most welcoming experiences I have ever had. First the doors were held open for us by one of the staff, then you walk by cases full of fresh cuts of meat and seafood to gaze upon the portions you can expect. Our delightful server, Syna was at out table promptly not just to get our drink order, but to pleasantly chat with us, and when she discovered it was our first visit, find out what we liked to eat, and help with our selection. We were both looking for a meaty sandwich and chose the Prime Time to our great delight. A wonderful steak sandwich with gooey cheese and sweet peppers cooked just perfectly. The steak was so tender it melts in your mouth. Just before our order arrived we got a visit from the manager, Amanda. Love this place. I go out of my way to stay at a nearby hotel just to come here. Hard to believe, but the Tuna here is amazing. The other dish I had had is also very good. They advertise the tuna is flown in everyday, and after having it multiple times, i believe it. Sushi is great as well, but get there early because it get busy and the sushi get backed up. read more

So I'm going to start by saying we love this place and we have been here many times. Food and service are always great and they have an awesome beer list. The sole reason for this negative review is that they dedicate one entire side of their menu to sushi yet can't produce it on a timely basis. This is the third time we have showed up early (today at 4:45) and ordered sushi. Only to be told that there will be a 45 minute to 1 hour wait because the chef that makes sushi is "on a break". The rest of the menu can be prepared by other cooks, but weirdly sushi can only be made by one person in the entire restaurant. That's unacceptable and a little crazy. You can't make people wait an hour for certain menu items because you haven't trained staff to make those items. If it's a chef control-thing then it might be time for the ownership to tell the primadonna that this situation isn't good for business. If not, then TRAIN some employees. Imagine if you were getting on a bus and were told it would be an hour wait for the bus to move because the driver was on a break. My guess is you would wonder why they don't have more than one driver??? Now here is the best part.....because of this nonsense the restaurant has created table placards that show the time your wait started (see the photo). That's CRAZY!!! My review is based on the fact that I'm not crazy about barbecue or they're sushi. I got the beer can chicken, it was weird. It tasted very dry.
