Tried to get us to eat on the patio but, sorry it's way too hot for that. The next 5 diners we saw thought the same, they had no takers. Ordered the Bavarian pretzel, but you gotta pay extra for cheese dip. Whatever. Menu was not quite as extensive as I thought it would be. It was disappointing. I got sushi. Dragon roll and California roll. They were good. But took 45 mins to make. Crazy. My associate got the salmon salad. She likes it. Drinks had no prices. That's annoying. This place was a highlight of our trip! We were in town for a graduation and this random, non-chain, non-corporate establishment was within walking distance to the hotel. We didn't feel like driving anywhere so we walk on over and see what we can find. Wow! We sure found a lot. I had the grouper sandwich with fries. Not sure if you can tell from the picture but the sandwich was huge! Definitely was enough for me for a large dinner. Could not eat anything else. Someone else had the bacon ranch wrap which was in itself also excellent. Just big and full of flavor. Sometimes people can stuff things in wraps but the flavor just isn't there. However here at the chubby trout, they know how to put it in flavor. We went back the next day and tried some of their sushi. It was also a very excellent! Stopped here for an early dinner on our way home to Chicago. Service was great. Seated right away but we arrived around 4:30 on a Tuesday. When we left it was packed so be prepared to wait if dining at prime times. My kids ordered off the childrens menu - chicken nuggets for my 6 year old daughter and grilled cheese for my 8 year old son. I sampled their food and it was delicious! I ordered their halibut on their special menu called "Hollywood Halibut". Very large portion with a cilantro rice and chorizo sauce. Sooo good!!! My husband had sushi (Red Dragon & Spicy Crab) and it was delicious. We did get the chocolate cake for dessert and it's huge so we shared and still had leftover cake for home. I highly recommend trying this place out if you haven't. Also I had a draft cider beer from Michigan and I nursed it because it was so tasty!! They have a great selection of beers on tap. Yelp stats tell me I've written over 350 reivews, and only given "2 stars" once before. So it pains me to even write this. I always try to be very fair and constructive and complimentary, so here is the good and the bad: Super cute place, looked really fun. 5 adults for dinner. Crowded Saturday evening, but we got seated really quicky. Menu looks super enticing. And, we're hungry! Server is very friendly. We didn't order any sushi because our server told us that would be at least an hour wait. So for appetizers, we got the sue sue shrimp, edaname, a couple seared ahi dishes done two different ways, and the pretzle bites. All the appetizers were really yummy. One of our group didn't like the sue sue shrimp -- said there was too much sauce. I love a lot of sauce, so I ate her share too, ha! Drinks were the panama punch for 3 of us, a sweet tropical style cocktail. One had an extra dirty martini that she said was very good. I got the tequila old fashioned which, based on the ingrediants list, I did not think had burbourn (like a regular old fashioned), but I got it and it was so strong / not tasty at all (tasted like a TON of bourbon); I sent that one back and just got a glass of cab. Our server was gracious about this. Our entrees were the trout (with fries and green beans), the pasta new orleans, I had the prime time (prime rib sandwich, and two ordered the special rib eye (at market price) and both requested medium rare. My friend loved her trout; the other liked her pasta, also said that had too much sauce -- her bowl was swimming in it (she is not the one who previously commented on the appetizer). She did share some shrimp and they were very tasty. My prime rib sandwhich was ok but all the little bits of meat were kind of fried crispy; not what I was expecting. It was a little over done. The big fail of the night was the two rib eyes. Both were ordered medium rare. Both came to the table very brown and well done. Both got sent back. My one friend said, ok, please make this one rare instead. It came to her on the slightly medium side of medium rare (it was definitely not rare). The other one came back on the well side of medium well. Someone definitely has a heavy hand in the kitchen. By this time, the rest of us are half done our mealst. The first friend ate her steak; the second friend had no desire to try a third steak, and boxed hers up for her dog. They charged my first friend full price (except she had a 10% coupon to use), and they gave my second friend 30% off her steak. At "market price," which on this day was $42 per steak, this is really unacceptable that it could not be cooked properly. They should have comped her that dish. It was clearly not presented as ordered - twice! Super shame, because if those steaks had been good or handled with better customer service (seriously, her steak should have been comped!) , we would have been pleased. And then we even would have bought the cute chubby trout T shirts, desserts, and another round. Such a little gesture would have made such a difference. The overall appearance and feeling of the place gives you a very comfortable and relaxed experience and leads you to think hey will this be a bar food experience? Answer no not at all. So there's something fishy going on here. I'm in the area for business and, me being the Asian that I am, had to find some sushi. They got TONS of beers on tap--I got a "Zombie Dust". I then decided I just wanted to order the Sashimi Sampler. The server mentioned that it would be a 45 minute wait for sushi...and I'm just like "girl, this is what I came for". So i stuck with my sushi order and added an appetizer. I got the seared ahi and got it blackened. THE FOOD - you guys! This was Izakaya quality fish. It reminded me of the fish I get back in Hawaii. I'm legit actually ordering more right now because I finished all my fish. Their hamachi and tuna were great--the unagi wasn't the best, but still really good. THE AMBIANCE- honestly, you would never think that this place served sushi. From the outside looking in, this place looks like a Bubba Gumps and that decor follows through inside which is sorta weird. It's a confusing vibe for me. THE SERVICE - my server saved this place from a three star rating. She was extremely attentive and very polite. She stayed composed even though they were busy AF and she smiled through the whole dinner rush. She was a definite stand-out compared to the other servers I saw. THE VERDICT -- there may have been a few things that I was knit picky with, but overall if we're looking simply at service and food quality--I recommend this place 100%. You won't find another sushi joint like this in this area. The fish is amazing and you got a ton of beers on tap (not just your typical Asian beers like Kirin and asahi). We are strong followers of Chubby Trout. Started watching before they moved to the new location. The restaurant is always tidy, clean bathrooms and floors. The servers are friendly and on point for refills and anything you need to have a bit more of. Tartar sauce for instance. There is generally a wait on weekends so plan for that. Pricing is reasonable where my should be. I prefer the Lake perch basket. They have options other than deep fried. I like my pan sautéed. The last time we went we were disappointed in the fries. We were there at an odd time of day, 3:30 pm. They were limp and our server replaced them with a different basket. Sadly not an improvement. I think the grease was not hot enough. That was the first time we have had an iffy experience. Sticking with my 5 star review. One time cannot negate the many many terrific meals. Check it out. Overall great vibe, great for a family or dining solo. I had no idea what the menu would be and I was surprised at the options. Something for everyone but not an overwhelming menu. Food quality is incredible. The sushi rice flavor wasn't my favorite but definitely good, just more of a personal preference. Fish quality and flavor was wonderful. We were seated right away and greeted by our server, Kylee. Kylee was AWESOME! She was so friendly and welcoming. We have never had sushi and decided it was time to try some. Seafood & sushi & prime rib? Ok! This place was located right next to the hotel we were staying in, so hard to pass up! We read over the reviews and just had to check it out! We thought it was gonna be a bust since when we walked in there was one waitress and she was steady answering, not one, but two ringing phones simultaneously. As soon as someone noticed, they had someone come from the kitchen to seat us and from then on, smooth sailing. The better half ordered the Chicken Caesar ($12) and I ordered the Seared Ahi Tuna appetizer ($17) and a Dynamite roll ($13). The tuna appetizer looked and tasted a little different than what I'm used to but it was very good, wasn't the sharp teriyaki/soy flavor I was looking for but more of a basic tuna & sesame flavor (you can order it with sesame seeds or blackened like a Cajun flavor, I opted for the sesame). I don't think I would order it again as there just wasn't $17 worth of oomph there. The Dynamite roll was 8 pieces of deliciousness! I would definitely order that again!! Full or flavor and fell off the bone, just as the menu said. Stopped by the Chubby Trout at the recommendation of a business partner. Place was packed, the staff were all masked and keeping the tables clean. Took about 30 minutes to get a table, as they don't take reservations unless you have a party of 6 or more. Lots of choices on the menu - I had the Mahi dish with asparagus and hollandaise sauce. Portion was nice - good value for the money. My coworker had the Blue Gill, said it tasted great. I sampled the craft beer - very nice pilsner.
