Oxtail stew, curry goat, rice and peas, nonalcoholic ginger beer.

If I could give Chubby's more than 5 stars, I would. My husband and I drive from Rochester, NY to Toronto regularly, and Chubby's is one of the main reasons. We make a point to stop here at least every few months and are already talking about coming even more often because the food is that good. On this visit, we ordered the oxtail stew with rice and peas, curry goat, fried plantains, and a housemade nonalcoholic ginger beer. Everything was absolutely delicious. The oxtail was tender and flavorful, the curry goat was packed with rich spices, and the fried plantains were the perfect sweet addition to the meal. The standout for me was the housemade nonalcoholic ginger beer. It was hands down the best ginger beer I have ever had and is something I look forward to every visit. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the service is always excellent, and the overall vibe makes the experience even better. Chubby's is the definition of comfort food done right. If you're in Toronto and looking for authentic, flavorful Jamaican cuisine, this place is a must-visit.

This was a highly recommend spot and it was just okay to me honestly. My oxtails were so fatty which really kind of turned me off from the dish but overall everything was good but I feel like this is a spot that isn't a necessity on your itinerary

Went for weekend lunch as a group of 6, space was fun and lively and food came quickly. Portions sizes fair. Very good flavours on everything, particularly the wings and the Mac and cheese and oxtail.

Chubby's was by far the best meal we ate our entire time in Toronto. The food was so fresh and aromatic. The flavors were robust. Super, super delicious. The drinks were well crafted we had to double back for a second round. The place is small and quaint but really cute and cozy. The service was outstanding and they played some really good music.

The pan seared snapper was so good! It had a really good spice mix and was very flavorful. I loved the vibes and layout of the restaurant. The jerk wings appetizers had a nice flavor to them and I also liked the ackee and salt fish bites as well. My friends weren't a huge fan of the oxtail stew, but it wasn't bad. The service was okay.

Seriously, some of the best Jamaican food that I have ever had. It is definitely worth it. Michelin recommendation I would come back to Toronto just for this.

We got the classic of jerk chicken, oxtail stew, plantain, and macaroni. The only thing that was different was the watercress salad. Food was delicious and filling and staffs were friendly and helpful! We went during the Christmas and it was decked out.

Loved my experience here! Chill, cozy vibes the whole time I was here. The decor transports you to a whole different place. We ordered handmade beef patties to start, jerk chicken, ackee & salt fish bites and jerk chicken (not pictured, but suuuuuper yummy). Everything was made fresh to order, some may feel like they're waiting a while, but for us it was perfect. The food came out hot and was insanely flavourful. Staff was friendly, attentive and gave recommendations to help us decide. I've already begun looking at what I'll order the next time I go back!

Interior Decor was nice but the establishment needs a deep cleaning. As the waiter sat us at a bar table on the 2nd floor, it was hair on the table & so much dirt. Food was not that good, definitely not authentic & over priced. The curry chicken & plantains was the only thing that was good.. the jerk chicken didn't taste like jerk, more like smoke/grilled. The patties didn't have meat inside, hot sauce wasn't necessary, it was hot with no flavor. The oxtail was the worst I ever had. I guess Detroit is different, we like authentic & seasoned food. After seeing the Caucasian woman as the manager, "I said dang it's not real Jamacian cooks nor is it black owned I'm extremely surprised many ppl said it was good.

Came here per recommendation of Tik Tok while in Toronto for the weekend. BEST DECISION EVER. This ambiance in this place was very inviting, has a local feel with an elevated flavor. i made reservation for 2 on a Friday night. I was immediately greeted and led to our table by the hostess, Our server, Amber, was the best. Her smile was warm and attitude was courteous. We had the oxtail stew with rice and beans, jerk chicken with rice and beans, a side of plaintains and the saltfish appetizers. THE FOOD WAS AMAZING!!! the best part of our meal was the delicious rum raisin bread pudding. One of the best thing on the menu. Even our drinks were amazing. This place did not disappoint. 10/10.

This was my first time in Canada, and during my trip to Toronto, I knew I had to check out Chubby's Jamaican Kitchen after hearing so many great things -- and it definitely lived up to the hype! The food was flavorful and authentic, the hospitality was warm and welcoming, and the ambience truly made me feel like I was in Jamaica. From the décor to the music, everything captured the island spirit perfectly. If I ever make it back to Canada, I'd absolutely visit Chubby's again -- and I highly recommend it to anyone in the Toronto area looking for a taste of Jamaica done right!

Ordered in tonight and the food was delicious. Portions were adequate. Had the oxtail and peas and rice, curried goat and rice and some greens. The greens tasted like some variety of spinach my mom cooked in Trinidad. All dishes were very flavourful and just the right amount of heat.

For our first night in Toronto for a girls' trip, we had dinner at Chubby's given the good reviews and me mentioning wanting to try the various Caribbean spots during our stay. The decor gives island vibes with the wooden furniture and tranquil color choice for decor. Staff were all pretty helpful, with you waiter being pretty attentive. For my drink, I ordered the rum punch which was pretty good in the balance of flavorand alcohol content. In terms of food, the portions for my entree (Oxtail Stew) was a little smaller than I thought but or actually worked out well and was enough. The oxtail was cooked down, well seasoned and tender, but I felt like I got a lot of pieces that were just bone or pretty fatty. The other food/Likkle bites I ordered to share with one of my friends were also very good. The Pepper Shrimp definitely had a heavy kick of spice to it and tasty. I really enjoyed the Saltfish (Cod) Fritters - they were tasty, had a good chutney to go with it. The plantains were cooked perfectly so that they stayed soft. All in all, we had a good dining experience.

I had brown stew chicken, ackee, saltfish, rundown, callalou, plantains, and a little bit of a lot else. My water glass stayed full and used plates were removed as soon as I went for more food. This was one of the first times that a cultural restaurant in the heart of downtown had authenticity in the dishes. It became apparent when I passed the kitchen and heard patois. Not that patois was an indication of genuine flavor, given some cultural restaurants will compromise flavor for certain palates, but an elder speaking it is an elder who will serve you food as it should taste.

We tried a variety of dishes to varying degrees of enjoyment. Let's start with the good - we enjoyed the saltfish fritters, the Jamaican patties, the beef roti, and the fried bananas the most. They were balanced and very flavorful. The beef roti specifically looked like a giant burrito, but the beef within was so tender and well seasoned. We also really enjoyed the banana fritters which tasted like deep fried banana bread. As for the plates missing the mark - The jerk chicken was pretty tender but our two pieces were also pretty charred so we had to remove most of the skin where most of the rub would have been. Additionally, the goat curry and the oxtail were borderline inedible especially after we ran out of coleslaw which was its saving grace to making each bite palatable. It was so salty otherwise! There were also a lot of small bone fragments to work through on each dish. It wasn't necessarily that these dishes tasted bad but it was just impossible to enjoy due to the salt content. The staff at Simone's was very kind though. I could also tell that they made everything fresh and at order so I can appreciate the effort even though it didn't quite meet my expectations.

I found that this beef patty here at Allwyn's was flaky enough but lacked the crispness of the outside dough. As well the filling was too moist or soggy and it was translucent which was off putting. Not the best Jamaican food I've had, but it still hits when you want that comfort fix. Legacy spot…read morehas better portions and more consistent flavour than the other location. Fried dumplings with oxtail gravy were warm and soft, and the gravy gave it a nice boost. The mix plate had fried chicken with good crunch and oxtail that was tender, but heads up--the oxtail portion is small, so don't expect anything crazy. The gravy ties it all together though. It's not a top-tier spot for me, but definitely worth a visit when the craving hits. Rating: 3 out of 5

The soft opening was on 2023-04-25, and the grand opening will be on 2023-05-19. There many tables for seating, a second seating area half a floor up at the back of the restaurant, an extensive bar, and an event space in the basement. We ordered the following: 1. Jamaican Mule ($10.99). Ginger Beer, Gosling Black Rum. 2. Lily's Passion ($10.99). 2oz Captain Morgan, 2oz passion fruit, 1oz cranberry juice. 3. Peanut Punch ($5.00). 4. Plantain ($3.95). 5. Chicken Roti (13.95). 6. Jerk Chicken & Oxtail Combo ($23.95). 7. Escovitch Fish ($22.00). The service from the waitress and bartender was excellent. The alcoholic drinks were colourful and tasty. The Peanut Punch was in a drinking box from a Caribbean company called Grace. I've had it before. But the waitress suggested it be poured into a tall glass with ice; it was amazing - I highly recommend it! The Plantain appetizer was perfectly cooked and delicious. The Chicken Roti side dish was huge! It is twice as high as any Roti I've ever had before! The chicken inside was succulent. The Jerk Chicken & Oxtail Combo was amazing. You get two sides: we chose rice & peas and coleslaw, two quintessential sides for a Jamaican meal. I feared the Jerk Chicken would be too spicy, but the restaurant wanted to cater to many tastes, so it made it medium spicy (which I could handle). I was told you can add their Real Jerk Hot Sauce yourself or ask the cook to make it extra spicy during the cooking process. The Oxtail was tasty. We also ordered the Escovitch Fish, another popular Caribbean dish. The whole fish is fried, then marinated in a sauce of vinegar, spices, onions, carrots, and peppers. The taste was excellent, and the meat flakes off the bone easily. This dish also come with two sides: we chose coleslaw and steamed vegetables, which came in their own separate bowls. During this restaurant's grand opening, there will be entertainment starting at 15:00, with steel pan, limbo, prizes, and DJ. Starting at 22:00, there is a party. This location has an event space in the basement, which can hold up to 101 people. It can be used for old school parties, karaoke,  spoken word, etc. The parties are to appeal to the older clientele who frequented the Queen and Broadview and Gerrard locations. The Real Jerk started 38 years ago and has moved several times. The most famous location was at Queen and Broadview while they were there for 25 years. This location is owned by a husband and wife team: Cleigh and Natasha. Cleigh's father owns the location on Gerrard St, which became internationally famous due to a music video by Drake and Rihanna. There is a third location in London, England, owned by Cleigh's uncle. There is free WiFi. The restaurant is not currently wheelchair accessible but there will be a ramp to overcome the one step at the entrance. There are separate male/female washrooms in the basement, so they are not wheelchair accessible. There is paid neighbourhood street parking. Review 2023-142
