I was there with my family, to celebrate my mother's birthday. The food was good as usual, however the server was awful. His name was Jack. How appropriate. He didn't do jack for us. We came in around 4:45, didn't leave until about 6:15. Why, because jack didn't do jack. My sister in law never had her drink refilled. We ordered appetizers, and about almost 30 minutes, he came back. Ordered our food, again almost 30 more minutes passed. Personally, if it wasn't for my mama, I would have left. This review is only about the dessert. I will have to return on another occasion to have a sit down experience in this restaurant. After going to dinner in Oak Cliff, my dinner party and I wanted to grab dessert somewhere that wasn't crowded. My mom suggested Chubby's and I was highly skeptical. I had never heard of this place and the location is not my usual scene. But I was willing to entertain my mom's suggestion and we headed to Chubby's. I grabbed a slice of cheesecake and it was delicious. The other people in my party tried the different pies (buttermilk chess and cherry) and they raved about them as well. I had breakfast here this morning yes no Sunday morning. I had two soft scrambled eggs with 3 pieces of bacon with crispy hash brown potatoes. I ordered the seafood platter and it came with three fried shrimp,1 haddock fish fillet and a stuff crab and French fries. The shrimp and haddock was in a tempura batter like substance that was greasy and hard. The cocktail sauce was congealed. The coleslaw and the tartar sauce tasted like it was loaded with vinegar. Went here for brunch because my boyfriend would always talked about this place and how awesome it is. When we arrived there was a 30 minute wait. We decided to wait since I wanted to see how great this place is. We got seated about 30 minutes later and we ordered the appetizer sampler, chicken florentine and the chicken fried steak. The appetizer sampler came with steak fingers, chicken strips, mozzarella sticks and onion rings. The only thing I liked was the steak fingers and mozzarella sticks. The chicken strip had no flavor. I didn't get to try the onion rings but my boyfriend said it wasn't all that great. The chicken fried steak came soon after the appetizer and it was okay, I've had better and I don't even know where to start with the chicken florentine....it was watery and plain. It seem like they had used frozen veggies so when it was cooked it made it really watery and there were no flavor to the chicken. They could've seasoned it more. read more

Initially when we arrived to Chubby's we thought we were going to try something different since we are from the Houston area and now here we are in Dallas. The service was excellent staff was wonderful and friendly and the selection of food from the menu was superior. However it stopped when we received our food. The eggs were carton eggs and the pancakes had a grainy or powdery type texture to them. The fried pork chops that came with the fried pork chops and eggs were unflavored and a big disappointment. The ham had an aftertaste that wasn't very pleasant. All of the food was unsalted which I get because not a lot of customers like a lot of salt on their food. When I express that the food was insalted I mean it had no salt at all. I would say it's the excellent service and the friendliness of the staff that gets people to continuously come to this restaurant. As much as I love the Denny's and IHOP in any major city, I would say this restaurant is far superior in customer service. read more

Eating here I learned that Chubby's means crappy version of Denny's. When you walk in this establishment looks a lot like any other diner you go to. So my expectations were on or with Denny's, Sharri's or any other run of the mill dinner. I soon learned that Chubby's is not. Our waitress seemed to care less about actual service and more just getting the food to us and rushing us out the door. I ordered the "classic club". Much to my surprise as I took a taste of my first French fry they had managed to completely dehydrate the fries leaving just a salty dry body of a fry. The sandwich was mediocre. I asked my friend how his meatball sandwich was (the house special of the day). His "garlic bread" the sandwich was made on was simply Italian bread with no garlic or seasoning. He even commented that they managed to dry out the meatballs. We thought the saving grace would be to try the pies they had in their dessert case. But as we finished our meal the waitress just dropped the check on our table as if to get us to leave. They weren't even busy! So we simply paid our tab and left. Between the bad food, worse service, and colorful conversations you can hear the staff having in the kitchen I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more
