We both got a ham, egg, and cheese on a hard roll and were so surprised that the ham wasn't deli ham, but a ham steak! There was so much meat on the sandwich and all for a rather inexpensive price. Came here on a Saturday morning before hitting up the farmers market. We sat down right away. The tables were tight but there were plenty of seats. This place knows their locals, because they knew them on sight and started their orders I had the eggs with a biscuit and gravy. Husband had Irish omelet. Excellent service but the food is just okay. As in I don't think they use any seasonings or cook things together to get flavoring. It's as if everything is prepped in advance and thrown together later but not cooked together. So home fries with onions, peppers and mushrooms have some precooked onions that aren't fried and just tossed on top of the home fries with some canned mushrooms and precooked peppers. Then they just bring it out without cooking it together or seasoning the potatoes. Zero seasonings so the food is bland. Same scenario with other food I had, no seasoning on anything. I come here sometimes for breakfast and I go out with my friends. Before you consider dining in, just remember that it is cash only. Other than that, their food portions are really big! Especially breakfast. Got the 3 eggs with onions cheese mushrooms toast sausage and potatoes. I ate so much and still couldn't make a dent on my plate. This is a real country breakfast experience the last few times I've eaten here the moment I stepped out of my car it was apparent this isn't the typical breakfast stop. The air is filled with the smell of country living from fresh baled hay to cow manure spread across the local fields that smell is replaced immediately as you enter the door with true country cooking. I love the friendly atmosphere and the local chat always going on, but when the food arrives wow you won't be settling for the fast food joints any longer. They offered to make another one but clearly rushed it as they egg was still raw when they served it back out to me. Everyone else there seemed to be enjoying their time there, but not me. By no means is this a 5 Star restaurant. I gave it 5 stars for what it is. What it is without a doubt is a great family style diner. Homemade hash, great homefried potatoes, biscuits and sausage gravy are fabulous. I would like to see the country fried steak made in house instead of a previously frozen one. How much does it take to pound out and bread and fry one up. Would be worth it. All in all this is a great restaurant and well priced. Come hungry and leave fully satisfied. Cash only! ATM on site. Food is good restaurant is quint and clean. Super long lines on weekends to get a table but the food is very good homemade diner food. You won't find anything avant garde just home cooked well done classics. Most of the staff are super friendly and kitchen will accommodate requests within reason. This place is great, I had a reuben with fries. The sandwich was good, a little bit soggy but the French fries were straight from heaven, thin cut and super crispy, if they have sweet potato fries like that I'll be coming in way too often. The waitress I had was super and the other two that were working were great too, I heard them with their customers and the place was clean and quite with plenty of parking. Read the reviews and we were going to be in Ellington for an oil change and figured we'd give this place a shot. Upon arriving and exiting our car we were greeted by the smell of farmland (i.e. fresh manure). While this isn't the restaurants fault, it certainly wasn't a great start. Fortunately inside smelled fine and was unaffected by outside. The restaurant was clean and welcoming, staff were friendly and responsive. However the breakfast left much to be desired (we ate midweek fwiw, so not crowded) I ordered my eggs over-medium/medium-well (very little runny) and received over-easy (very runny). The bacon was chewy rather than nice and crisp. The apple cinnamon waffle was soggy and not all that great either. The white toast was fine. My wife didn't care for the scrambled eggs, had an odd coloration (really pale yellow) and didn't taste right. She was also unimpressed with the tiny and dry $2.00 biscuit she received. Overall disappointed because based on the reviews we were expecting something pretty good. read more

Really surprised there aren't more reviews for this place! I visited Chuck Wagon for the first time this past Sunday morning, and it was downright packed. It's the kind of old-fashioned, unpretentious diner that has a bunch of regulars: you can just tell by the camaraderie between patrons and waiters. My friend Pri recommended the hot chocolate, and I'm really glad I tried it! It's really thick and topped with a towering dollop of whipped cream. Was really impressed with my cheeseburger omelet. As Swiss M noted in another review, the cheese was especially gooey and flavorful! This gave my favorite omelet a run for its money (the McOmelet at Cosmic Omelet, if you must know)! The home fries weren't the best I've had. Overall, a great little place to meet up with friends or family for breakfast or brunch! I will surely be back. read more

Previous reviews of this joint are spot on. Service is great, the place is packed, packed, packed on weekends during breakfast. I'm very fond of this place. I usually get pancakes...which are always huge and done to perfection. The coffee is all fresh ground and brewed. As busy as this place is, it never stays in the pot long. I am also not a fan of the hash...it's okay. It's really the only thing on the menu I've been less than enthusiastic about. One of my favorite breakfast places when I'm home in Vernon. Give it a try. Went to Chuck Wagon for the first time this morning and was very pleased. For a busy Sunday morning we were pleasantly surprised that our wait time was only five minutes. The service was good with a short wait between ordering and our food being brought out. They were sufficiently staffed for the morning rush, which was clear by the consistent coffee refills. The food was great with good portion sizes. They were a bit pricey, but fair for the serving sizes and quality. My only real critique is that they're Cash only. In today's day and age you'd except to be able to use a credit card. We'll definitely be going back again. read more

1st time visiting. Line at door and two people walk by everyone and sit down, guy in front of us ask cashier if it is seat yourself and she says yes. We sit a a table that needed to be cleaned and waitress has an attitude. I break the ice by saying good morning and take your time. Specials on board are in menu and at same price. That is not a special! 3 meals are ordered. Guest one is a single pancake with two eggs scrambled with bacon. Guest two is crab cake (not home made) benny and guest three is a waffle that comes deep fried with a side of bacon. Guest one meal comes and is half done with meal before guest two gets meal. Guest three bacon comes and guest three waits until almost one and two are done for waffle to arrive. Waffle was gross and sent back and eggs were ordered. Waitress never asked if we needed anything. One other waitress helped us a couple times. I will not be returning anytime soon, if at all. read more

Honestly not one of the better breakfasts around, in my opinion. Small, quaint place. Could definitely use some updating. Cool "breakfast bar" area with old school stools which was fun to see. Servers are nice. It was a group approach for service - didn't have the same person from start to finish which is okay, but I prefer having one person. What lacked was that we were barley checked on. Waters never refilled, asked husband when we were ready to cash out if he wanted more coffee. Cash only. Small sign on door that says that but saw many people be turned down with cards - luckily there is an ATM on site. Clearly lots of regulars. Eggs tasted like they had been cooked and then reheated - I'm always looking for fresh fluffy eggs, and these weren't it. They also just looked sort of funny. They were stiff and dry. The shredded cheese I asked for (actually asked for American cheese) on top tasted odd. I had the country fried steak and eggs with sausage gravy and biscuit. Gravy was okay - biscuit was so tiny like one of the mini pillsbury biscuits you buy the dough at the store and cook .... definitely wasn't fresh and was so dry and hard. I was expecting a nice buttermilk biscuit or something. Steak was sort of stringy - whole meal lacked seasoning. Husband's home fries with his Rueben omelette weren't cooked enough and he didn't care for the omelette as a big Ruben fan. Thought the corned beef tasted off. I didn't drink the coffee but he said it was decent though which he often finds to be an issue at breakfast joints. There French fries looked delicious would've gotten those had I realized I could in the morning. We might be back just because it's convenient and to give it another shot. Way above average spot for a nice homemade breakfast. The four of us all licked our platters clean. I had the sausage and cheese omelet....decent sized and very tasty. others enjoyed the blueberry pancakes(they are HUGE)...an egg white omelet loaded with veggies....and two eggs over easy with a slab of ham. star of the meal was betty our waitress. she is extremely professional..very friendly....and kept the delicious coffee coming. menu had many choices....pricing was in line.....just a fine place to hang out and eat home cooked food. read more

We stumbled on this place heading out through Ellington - a Saturday morning and the parking lot was packed. Lots of options for breakfast, and a board of specials too. I had a traditional bacon and eggs, with home fries. I asked for onions in my home fries, and they were as good as you get - yum. Nice hearty bacon, and a great value for the cost. My husband got a special - chicken fried steak with biscuits and gravy and eggs, he really enjoyed it. Cash only, but we will be making this a regular stop - service was great, food was great, and the prices are great! read more
